somewherebecomingrain · 01/10/2012 12:15

good luck firstbubba hope you are feeling the right balance of calm and thrilled!

Stomach update - I am not feeling sick and i am loving my food. just made myself a salami, pecorino, pesto and tomato sandwich, wow it blew my mind.

ValiumQueen · 01/10/2012 12:41

Not caught up, just flying in. Checking you all know about the whooping cough thing. Too late for some of us, but we will be given it post delivery. Bye!

knottyhair · 01/10/2012 17:13

Somewhere, so glad you're feeling better. VQ, I asked the consultant today about the whooping cough vaccine and she said they haven't been asked to offer anything at the hospital but that the GPs should already have some in as it's the same one as they give for the babies' first jabs. She told me to ring the surgery in the morning and sort it out.
Scan went really well, and Rosa is measuring exactly average for dates, and was wriggling away! Could definitely see that she's a girl so I feel more confident about buying girls' stuff now. Had to have bloods taken and the consultant also upped my thyroid meds as apparently my last results were a little high for pregnancy. There was also apparently a trace of protein in the wee sample but they said they won't worry about it unless it shows up next time - MW appt next week so I guess they'll test again then.

ValiumQueen · 01/10/2012 17:20

Apparently GPs have now been given the go-ahead to administer whooping cough opportunistically to those who would be too late to have it when it is rolled out nationwide, 15th in Scotland apparently. I.e. if we go to surgery asking for it, we can have it. I will test that theory tomorrow, and report back.

I wonder how the inductions are going?

ValiumQueen · 01/10/2012 17:20

Of course, if I were to have my pedants hat on, it would be inducements.

somewherebecomingrain · 01/10/2012 17:38

knotty great news about your scan you must be really pleased. it's so nice to meet your baby isn't it, though it's tantalisingly brief! they sound like they are taking good care of you.
VQ thanks for the whooping cough tip - you are definitely at the point to have the vaccination so good luck - let us know how it goes.
LRM how is your sweep?

xx

scarecrow22 · 01/10/2012 18:00

Any news from fjord? Thinking of you if you are lurking!

Hpbp · 01/10/2012 19:45

Scarecrow, welcome to the thread. I now have my baby but still here because I had brilliant support from all these ladies.
Knotty, I am very glad that Rosa looks perfect, this is very good news
VQ thanks for reminding about whooping cough, it is important to get it to protect our LO, hope everyone in contact with kids will do so.
Fjord, how are you doing ? LRM, Firstbubba, so tomorrow is the big day ! Can't wait to hear from you.

Accidentally found the Secret of a Baby Whisperer. Just can't put it down. Really like the philosophy behind it. Will try some of her tips on Anastasia. Can't believe she is 2 months old already.

Hugs to eveyone. And special hugs to imminent mums to be.

littleredmonkey · 01/10/2012 20:51

Evening ladies

Well what a bloody day I have had: Baby Dylan is ok

Woke up 4 this morning with no movement, , spent a good hour trying to engage him to move, no joy.Woke up partner sat with me for a bit trying the usual stuff that gets him moving and nothing. Got dressed went up to the hospital and strapped to a monitor. Soon as the midwife strapped the machine on he started to move. little monkey but thank feck for that.all the reads came back normal no issues. So just strange he was so quiet. Anyway they had a doctor look at me and bugger off to quiz his head consultant about me. A midwife came and spoke to me about a few bits and I said I had a sweep booked for Tuesday she said oh we can do that today save you coming back, so thought groovy crack on ! I waited til 4:30 and the midwife returned to do the sweep. I was treated very well but bugger me what a wait, at least I had a room on my own for me and my partner to relax in. me in bed him on a chair.

Anyway sweep went well no issues . The midwife had a chat with the consultant who wanted to induce me this evening. I had a long chat with the midwife who saw no reason for me to go home for the evening give the sweep 24 hours and then pop back Tuesday for a check up and book in my inductiion then. Hopeully the sweep will have taken effect. She saw no issues with having the inducment as the sweep showed I would be good for it. I am sat in bed and crap I have shocking period pains. I will see what Tuesday brings.

Midget- Hope you are feeling better

Firstbubba & Fjord - Thinking of you and joining you soon ladies.

riversidelibrary · 01/10/2012 21:00

Firstly fingers crossed for Fjord, firstbubba and Littleredmonkey, I hope everything goes smoothly and swiftly with your little ones arrivals.

scarecrow welcome to the thread, do keep us updated on how you're doing.

eagleray despite your traumatic mountain descent I'm still quite jealous of your holiday!

Midgetm it sounds quite scary what you went through, do take it easy for a while and look after yourself.

AFM the hen party was lovely, very chilled out. A historic walk around London, interspersed with a couple of historic pubs (I was the only one not drinking!) and ending up with an evening meal with lots of laughter. Home and in bed by eleven!

I'm trying to take advantage of the second trimester to expand my limited cooking repertoire with quick and easy meals. Ready for arrival of the LO. Yesterday was Jamie's macaroni and cauliflower cheese, with bacon breadcrumb topping. Would really recommend it.

ValiumQueen · 01/10/2012 21:02

Ooh LRM what a day! So glad you said boy was fine right at the beginning x we do worry you know x

Here's hoping the sweep will do the trick on its own. Glad you are in pain I think Grin my labour started with period pains.

Try and get some sleep if you can, and thinking of you x

Midgetm · 02/10/2012 06:58

Fjord managed a quick post on our antenatal thread. She is good but progress slow so hoping for delivery today. Just didn't want you all worrying about her. Proper catch up later. LRM how's the sweep coming on. I have mine Tuesday and expecting to work the next 3 days. Am I insane? Love to all, gotta fly on a course for 3 days seemed a good idea at the time

ValiumQueen · 02/10/2012 07:10

Thank you midget for the update.

Yes you are mad, but if anything should bring on labour, it is going on a course after a sweep. Please listen to your body, and if it is too much, just come home.

knottyhair · 02/10/2012 07:57

Thanks Midget! And just to echo VQ, come home if you think you need to. Thinking of all of you who are being induced or have a due date this week x

FjordMor · 02/10/2012 09:56

Have just got on MN again. Thanks all for thinking of me! Still zen but contractions ramping up now & may get my waters broken in an hour. Thanks midget for updating for me! Hope you're not overdoing it again. Thinking of firstbubba too - hope she's getting on ok.

somewherebecomingrain · 02/10/2012 10:02

morning all - October is a busy dramatic month i'm realising. good to hear all going well with fjord. then first bubba. then LRM then Midget then VQ.
LRM - so are you in hosp waiting to begin induction? what is your actual due date? Good luck.
yes midget that sounds mad heroic and superwomanly to be working after your sweep. but you are clearly made of tough stuff.

riverside that sounds yum - i'm getting into that middle part of PG where i can just be all about food. i make a similar macaroni cheese with bacon and mushroom which is from gordon ramsey in a student Blush cooking supplement. it's great for cooler weather!

i have also been making teriyaki sauce as it has loads of ginger in it. great with salmon and basmati rice.

glad your hen party went well - it sounds dreamy.

xx

scarecrow22 · 02/10/2012 10:12

firstbubba and fjord now thinking of you both.
Just discovered the upside of working away from home (first time left DD since born Sad ) is that I got a Lie In Grin. Wow. Feel new woman already. If I get another one tomorrow will send you new mums some of my spare energy Brew

somewherebecomingrain · 02/10/2012 15:45

its really quiet on this thread. this is what birth sounds like on mumsnet. in my thoughts.
xxx

knottyhair · 02/10/2012 16:42

Also waiting with bated breath somewhere Smile

MrsWooster · 02/10/2012 20:17

FIngers crossed for those in the throes...
Is there a Graduates thread? as HPBP says, I don't think I will want to leave once the prodigal daughter appears, even though I am mostly a lurker...

ValiumQueen · 02/10/2012 20:39

Crumbs. It is like waiting for a baby to be born!

littleredmonkey · 02/10/2012 22:35

Hey ladies
Just logged on in hospital, took me long enough bloody useless.
they admitted me this morning for my induction at 10:30. took some tests and monitored baby Dylans heart rate. Had some lunch then popped a thinging in my muff that releases slowly some stuff that hopefully makes all systems go. Ladies in a word or two I am shitting myself. I have never been so nervous in my whole life, I am worried about the coming pain and also if I will cope being a mum. Safe to say I am one nervous red monkey this evening. I have moments of you silly billy you will be fine then waves of panic. Midwife said it is normal but I dont feel normal at the moment.
On the plus side Dylan is fine, I have a room on my own with a toilet so la de da to me. The midwives are ace and very friendly. The room is warm and I liked the apple crumble they gave me for tea.

Hope firstbubba and Fjord are groovy , I need some of your zen fjord, may go look in the snack shop for some. !!

Midget - Hope you are feeling better honey AND HOLY SHIT U R WORKING AFTER A SWEEP, hat off to ya but last night mine hurt like hell and shocking period pains.

Somewhere - Due date this Thursday 4th. also please come around my house and make tea, your cooking is making me hungry.

Well ladies off to try and sleep, not likely and may be woken in the night to shocking pains and then little one. Night night xx

ValiumQueen · 02/10/2012 22:43

LRM you will manage the pain how you manage it. Have pain relief or epidural if you need it. Everyone is different and there is no shame in needing help. You will be a fab mother, of that I have no doubt! Wishing you sweet dreams x

Midgetm · 02/10/2012 22:46

lrm the induction wait is a bitch. It gives you jitters, the midwife is right, it is totally normal. At least you are in a good room though although not as good as fjords who sounds like she is in a hotel

Just want you all to know that I shall be thinking of you all this evening and sending you as much support as this old lady can muster, all be it, virtually.

I've not had my sweep yet so working may be foolish, although as you all know foolish is my middle name. Like VQ says should bring labour on...

Suddenly feeling huge. Managed to paint my toenails - a miracle. Bump so low it feels like it may cut the circulation off in my legs. People keep saying I look neat which is just hilarious as I am the size of a small village!

Must pass out now.

10000Fireflies · 02/10/2012 23:16

Hi everyone - wow lots of exciting things going on in here.

LRM - OMG, I can't believe you're in and being induced. Good luck!!! You are lucky to be in a room on your own - nice and relaxing way to start. (I was in a room with 3 others - wasn't great hearing them all wailing away....) Not long now. You'll be a lovely Mum - don't worry - you don't have to know that much at first. Little babies need food, sleep and cuddles - not much else. Is a no-brainer. I reassured myself with that thought. You learn as they grow. Hugs, kisses and wishing you a pain-free time. And well done for setting up this group. Lots of new peeps I don't recognise, so it's turned out to be quite a success.

Hi to everyone else who was on the thread at the same time as me. Sorry I don't have time to keep up with you all properly. Wishing you all lots of luck too.

BTW, anyone going to start up a grads thread???!!! LRM?

Baby Firefly doing v well. Now 14 weeks. Apart from colic, which I think we've cracked now, all good and lovely.
