Placenta Praevia Support

Just been diagnosed with posterior pp after small bleeds at 24 and 26 weeks. The placenta reaches but doesn't completely cover os.
I have been advised to stop work, pelvic rest, no lifting, pushing supermarket trolley, exercise and to take life very easy.
I have put myself on modified bed rest- spend a lot of time in bed/ sofa but get up to potter about the house and for a short slow gentle walk daily to prevent dvt.
I am really struggling emotionally. This is an ivf baby after 3 years ttc and 2 losses. I am so so scared baby will come very early and be poorly. We were so happy and now it just seems a nightmare.
I'm 27+1 today. Baby seems fine at the moment and oblivious of all the worry it is causing.

Hi
Still on labour ward waiting for ward round. Second ctg was better - very happy baby and no tightenings.
Bleeding seems to be settling to brown- about to have blood test and cannula (ow hate them!)
Expecting to be admitted at least overnight.
How are things with you today?

Pleased to hear it. :) about happy baby that is, I also HATE cannula, am needle phobic and can't stand blood, so I am in a rather unfortunate position really :(

keep us posted blackcat

had a successful night (in relative terms!),

blacktreaclecat · 27/05/2012 10:21

Yay for a good night and another yay for me-escaped cannula unless bleeding starts again.
So nice things to keep us entertained- done any Internet shopping/ browsing? Thought of any names?
We are Isabella Mary for a girl or Nicholas James for a boy.
The Uppababy has come- need to pick it up. Having fun and games with changing unit- they sent 2 left sides so need Mamas and Papas to sort that out.

Hope you girls both get good nights, remember those cannulas, ouch, agree they are very painful. Some people better at putting in than others too! Lovely that theres a couple of you at similar stages that can support each other. A year on, our pp girls are still in touch! Now sharing stories on our little ones! Xx

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 27/05/2012 23:48

Thanks cmm :)

blackcat how are you doing? I have developed an irrational fear of sleeping :( don't want to sleep in case something happens.

Drs have put me on senna as well as lactulose to try and help in that department Blush as I have also developed a fear of going to the loo.

Spotting had turned darker red now, which I hope is a positive sign, but also really stringy (sorry if waaaay Tmi!). Ick.

Just go brown then stop PLEASE! :o

night everyone xx

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 28/05/2012 00:45

Oh FFS! Angry
another frigging bleed, what is wrong with me?!?! :(

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!

Back on monitor waiting to find out if I am going back to solitary confinement.

blacktreaclecat · 28/05/2012 03:42

Oh Poppy I'm sorry. Why always at night? Mine have all been out of hours too- 10pm, 8pm, 7am, 3am.
Hope you are holding up ok. Is your hospital v hot? I have a fan :)
Keep us posted xxxx

OP posts:
PoppyS34wantstogohome · 28/05/2012 05:15

It's unbelievably hot here. :( I think they're bored of my bleeding episodes here. Was stuck on the monitor for an hour and that's been it.

Passed another clot earlier, and haven't been able to sleep at all.

But drs and MWs unconcerned this time.

Really so fed with this. :( hate it so much. Angry

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 28/05/2012 06:49

Change of cannula, funny moment. I asked MW to take the old one out first she said no, in case you bleed.

In case I bleed??? I can't remember the last time I didn't bleed some amount!!!

blacktreaclecat · 28/05/2012 07:06

Oh love it is rubbish. I hate pp it is so unfair.
Ask for a fan. It really helped.
What do they say- basically you must stay in until at least a day or two after all bleeding stops? And as long as you and baby are ok they will keep you going as long as possible? That is what they've said here.
My cs isn't for another 4.5 weeks- seems forever! I don't want it to come yet though. Want to get to 36-7 if at all possible.
We'll see. When I was diagnosed I would have been happy with 35a want a June baby, not a May baby. Is supposed to be a July baby.
Do you get many visitors to keep you sane? I have just had to insist H go to work today. He wanted to work from home - he can't do that every time I have a bleed! My parents will be here.
Hope things settle this morning

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 28/05/2012 08:18

They're basically not letting me out now, I will get reviewed every Wednesday, but because I have had so many bleeds they're not keen on letting me out at all. :(

I don't thinks I will ever get home.

I have organised a few visitors, try to space Dp's visits out, so he's not up everyday. Don't think I have any update visitors today though. (error in my booking system :o)

Hope you're doing ok..? Xxx

30+ 2 today.

Coppernoddle · 28/05/2012 14:39

Hi girls, hope you got to read through our thread poppy, it's captainbarnacles thread she was talking about too!! Your thread is very similar, if you get the chance blacktreaclecatyoushould have a read!! Hope all I'd we'll today! I keep reading in hope your all still pregnant which I know at the stage your at, you just want baby out and be done with it all! Get home and back to normality, but the longer the better for baby is vital! Your all doing so well!! Chins up, just think of those little ones!!

blacktreaclecat · 28/05/2012 17:01

Home thank goodness.
No more red but a lot of clotty stringy brown stuff- they don't care if it is brown though- leftovers from yesterday.
Had 2 ctgs today- first one for 1.5 hrs because they forgot about me!
All ok. So just home, rest, and cross fingers.
Poppy I'm sorry you are stuck for the duration. I would definitely be asking for a side room. My dads friend lent me a portable DVD player last night and that really helped pass the time. They are less than £100 I think. An option?
I'm with you on the constipation- moving my bowels is what scares me the most.
Fingers crossed for a bleed free week this week.

Oh my poppy! What a shock!! I sencerely hope it wasn't of traumatic for you and baby and wishing you my thoughts, hugs and wishes for you and your little boys recovery! What a whirlwind for you! Hopefully very soon you can put it behind you and enjoy your time together with your little boy! Deo will offer you some amazing advise on prem baby due to placenta previa! And I have to say, I met her little boy for the first time last week and he's soooo cute and fighting fit! You'd never know! Really hope your both ok x x x x x

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 28/05/2012 20:29

bump is 3.2lbs, born 30+2, he's in neonatal but doing well so far, as far as I know. Not seen him properly yet, but a very shell shocked DP has been to see him. Bump is on oxygen & pressure, and glucose as he's so small. No name yet!!

Fingers crossed he continues to do well.

I am shattered after 3 nights no sleep and large blood losses. Xx

blacktreaclecat · 28/05/2012 20:41

3lb2 sounds a good weight. I'll bet you are both in shock. So glad he is doing well. Take care of yourself xxxx

OP posts:
captainbarnacle · 28/05/2012 21:13

Congratulations Poppy! Bless him. I had ds3 by emergency section at 5pm in the Monday and didn't get to see him in the nicu until 7pm on the Tuesday. I had photos, and due to the blood loss etc (spent 24 hrs on labour ward in recovery and 5min obs) I couldn't walk in to see him. They had to wheel me in still in my bed with catheter etc! It gets easier, it does. Concentrate on getting yourself better. That's the one golden lining with the whole special care thing.

deo357 · 28/05/2012 21:18

Congrats poppy . Glad the saga part 1 is over . Little man will be fine , great weight , my next delivery lady had her babe at 30 weeks a year ago , she came home & 3lb 10 0z !!! Hope all well with u xxxxx

cmm · 28/05/2012 21:34

Oh congratulations poppy, think the others have said everything I would say too. Was thinking it sounded like bleeds were coming more often, it's strange as I know it will be such relief to get rid of the pp but anxious for bump. I know quite a few born around that time that are also fine though, keep concentrating on getting yourself stronger too so you can be strong for him. Lots of love to you both, will keep checking the thread like the others xxx

Coppernoddle · 28/05/2012 21:54

I forgot to say congratulations!!!!

PoppyS34wantstogohome · 29/05/2012 11:57

Thanks everyone, will update as soon as I can see straight xxx

blacktreaclecat · 29/05/2012 14:13

I'm thinking of you and your little boy today and hoping you are both doing well.

Hope things are more settled poppy, very best wishes!
Black treacle - we haven't forgotten you! You're doing great... Keep thinking of your little one. Like all of us have said, it really is such an unfair thing to have and messes with your emotions but when you see your little one for the first time the relief is amazing! Don't expect too much of yourselves though, long hospital stays are hard as when you come out it takes a white to adjust but you'll get there! Xx
