Anyone else suffer in the sun abit this weekend?

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 26/03/2012 11:37

Congrats technoduck, that's fab news. Good luck hamncheese :o how exciting.. hope you're feeling a bit better today Angel and glitter. So many posts, haven't caught up on them all yet (sorry), so hello to new people and hope everyone's doing ok, and enjoying sunshine. Good luck to anyone else having MW appts and scans this week.

(21+2)

Lovemarmite · 26/03/2012 12:35

Hello everyone and popping in too after a little time being hectic.
We have our scan tomorrow which will be exciting. LO was kicking madly on Saturday evening after I spent the whole day gardening and over doing it. Was really happy that DH felt a big kick that night and so the 20 week mark felt real to him now too.
I've been assigned a senior mw that I will see all the way through from now on - really grateful. I think my previous mw must have taken my neurosis seriously :) Hypnobirthing or rather, 'Hypobirthing' in my case might be a great way to go

Hope all scan go well this week and the sun keeps shining for everyone. Oh and yes, some rain for my water butts!

Vinolover · 26/03/2012 14:08

Good luck for today Ham and massive congratulations Technoduck :) Boys are fab!

Also good luck to those having their scans tomorrow. Hope all is well and baby cooperates if you're finding out the flavour :)

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 26/03/2012 14:32

I just spotted this on Twitter and thought I'd share..

This is where my rubbish poppyseed name came from :o

I'm currently at the carrot stage!

panpipe · 26/03/2012 14:39

Woohoo for technoduck and everybody else finding out the flavour! Still very exciting even if we've gone for team yellow!

Lovemarmite I haven't quite caught up but have you tried hypnobirthing before or will this be the first time? I've signed up for a local class called 'daisy birthing' which is a combination of hypnobirthing, pilates, music, active labour etc. DH thinks it's a load of hippy nonsense by homebirth MW was full of praise for it so I can't wait for classes to start.

We went looking at prams for the first time this weekend, not really intending to buy anything yet as I'm going to see if we can find any bargains at the NCT nearly new sale next weekend. I think we've decided on the iCandy Cherry which looks fab and has the option of a carrycot from birth, travel system and stroller for when the little one is older.

I think I'm coming to the conclusion that bean doesn't like its dad! Being very wriggly and I can even start to see my belly moving now and again, but every time I call DH over to look/feel then bean seems to fall asleep again hehe! A mummy's girl/boy in the making?! Grin

capecath · 26/03/2012 14:54

glitter sorry to hear you're feeling down. Moving house is meant to be one of the most stressful things you can do, in terms of change! That and having kids and changing jobs.... So I think your feelings are normal! I would really recommend seeing if you can do a CAP money management course. They're free and only run for about 3 sessions so not a major time commitment, but they help you do a budget, and you can put aside money for those luxuries so that you're not having to get rid of everything nice :) It might help you to feel a little more in control of all the changes...
capmoney.org/en_GB/home

Also, we found a lot of second hand things on gumtree, charity shops and at NCT type of sales for great baby and home things. Also Primark is brilliant :)

Scottishlass grobags have been super for us. DS is a wriggler and is all over the place in his cot now (19 months) so they mean he always has a blanket on him. We only started using it about 4 months in when he was breaking out of swaddle. Initially he really liked being tightly swaddled.

NeedlesCuties · 26/03/2012 20:35

Hello all!

I had a wonderful weekend away with some friends from church, the weather was lovely! Was lovely weather again today, played in the garden all day with DS, which he loved.

Still suffering from hyperemesis, still wanting to vomit every hour I'm awake :( But apart from that, all is well, I am 19+3 today.

hamncheese · 26/03/2012 21:00

Hey all

Scan went well, no abnormalities and same due date! Baby was feeling camera shy when it came to seeing the face so only got a glimpse and took home a lovely picture of baby's back facing us haha! Also noticed that, even though I've been feeling a lot of movement especially the last few days, it is by no means all of them as wee one kept kicking but I couldn't even feel it while on screen. Kicking away happily now though so hopefully soon DH will feel. Celebrated with sushi (not raw... bah!) and sunshine... feel so nice to be all tired from sun. Also went on the Glasgow wheel (tiny version of london eye in george square) which was fun though DH freaked out when it stopped at the top hahaha! Also we didn't find out the sex... asked not to, but when the first image came up it was kind of looking down on the baby's stomach and I saw something, but nothing obvious enough to say either way... and maybe was the cord? Found lots of the scan confusing as to which bit we were looking at tbh! But loved seeing the spine, heart beating and thigh bone! Great day all round.

Good luck to all with scans soon!

(20+1 = BANANA!)

PictureThis · 26/03/2012 21:51

Hello all, good news about your scan Ham, there's nothing like seeing your LO on scan.
Glad to hear everyone has been enjoying this lovely weather. We were all outside in the sun yesterday, DH and I were sprucing up the outside of the house and DD was playing on her trampoline (yes, yes I know NOW) when she landed awkwardly and let out a scream that left me cold. A quick trip to A&E showed no broken bones and we were advised to let her mobilise gently. Last night was awful, she woke crying everytime she moved in bed, screamed when we moved her so back to A&E this morning where she was seen by two orthopoedic doctors and although there are no obvious fractures on scan they said they couldn't exclude one and they thought it would be prudent to put a back slab on to support the leg. Upshot is she is far more comfortable and getting used to moving about with crutches. My poor DD, it was so awful seeing her in so much pain. Hopefully she'll have a complete and speedy recovery. She was so upset at not being able to go to school today, mostly because they were doing a skipping workshop which she really wanted to do.

Here's to a far less eventful week in the PictureThis household. Have a good week everyone.
18 weeks now.

PictureThis · 26/03/2012 21:53

18 weeks = bell pepper

NeedlesCuties · 26/03/2012 22:02

Sorry to hear your DD hurt herself, but glad she's doing okay picture

Angel we went away for the weekend to the North Coast of NI, was about a 1.5 hour drive from where I live in NI. Lovely weather and beautiful scenery, was good for the soul :)

Reading about all these scans is making me excited for my next scan - think I'll be around 22 weeks by the time I get it. Really hope we can find out its sex, but I really think I'll struggle to keep it a secret....

alisonmcg · 27/03/2012 10:52

Hi everyone!

It's been ages since I last posted so just wanted to say hello!! I have been keeping up with everyone's posts and I love taking wee breaks at work (shhh!) to sit and catch up with the thread!

It's exciting that everyone is having their next scans! Ours isn't for another 2 weeks yet so counting down the days. We won't be finding out the flavour though, as it's DC1 we want to keep it a surprise!

I'm 18+3 now and still haven't felt anything that I can be sure is the baby. I thought I felt something on Friday but haven't felt anything since so starting to doubt myself. Desperate for it to happen! Has everyone else on here started to feel it now? Any other first timers still waiting at 18 weeks? Also when you do start feeling definite movements how quickly does it become a frequent occurrence?

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine!! Grin

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 27/03/2012 11:07

Ham good news on the scan, it's such a relief isn't it?

alison I first felt bump at about 18wks, the only way I can describe it is like a tiny little prod from the inside. I didn't feel many at that stage, and it took a week for me to work out what it was.

I'm 21+3 now and feel movements most days, but not so much at the weekends because I think I'm moving about more so don't notice it as much.

it's very cute! :)

picturethis your poor DD :( hope she is recovering ok now.

sc0ttishlass · 27/03/2012 12:37

alisonmg - im 19+1 (have my scan a week today! yippeee!) - but i havent really felt any movement as yet... I have been googling it as am concerned but have decided not to worry - some people feel nothing due to position of baby or where placenta is lying.. some feel nothing if they are bigger (I am not too big I dont think, but maybe had a 'bit' of weight to lose on my tummy), and just various other reasons - so i wouldnt worry! just my opinion... ill be asking the MW next week (i have even drank 2 cans of coke to see if the fizz helps!)

capecath - thanks for the info on the grobags.. i think 4-6 months seems to be about right from what i can read - in terms of the swaddling - did you just use sheets or did you buy one of the actual swaddle things! (i am such a novice at this stuff, i dont have a clue!!!)

anyway hope all scans are giong well adn everyone enjoying the sun - i am stuck on conf. calls most of the day, but sneaking on to this inbetween :)

xx

glittershoes · 27/03/2012 13:41

Thanks to all of you for being so lovely. I am feeling much more positive and trying to banish all money worries! We will be absolutely fine as long as we stick to budget - I suppose that is the hard part!

Loving the sunshine and hoping to sneak home from work early today to enjoy it!

So pleased you had a good scan ham - mine is Thursday and I cannot wait!

Hope your DD is feeling better picturethis - what a horrid shock.

Feeling the baby move is so strange isn't it? I was stressing last week as I was hardly feeling anything but in the last few days it has become a lot more frequent and feels exactly like being flicked but from inside.

I know what you mean scottish about being a novice! With things like grobags and swaddling I don't know where to start! I always assumed I would use the grobags straight away but are they not recommended from birth? There is so much stuff to learn isn't there?

We have been really lucky and have been given a big bundle of newborn clothes and a moses basket by one of DH's colleagues who had a baby in December. All the little vests are so cute!

capecath · 27/03/2012 15:12

scottishlass this link gives you a good idea of how to swaddle with a blanket. We didn't need to get a special blanket, just normal, cellular (breathable) ones. glitter you can use grobags from birth and lots of people do, but we found DS really liked being tightly swaddled, finding it comforting, and it helps with newborn reflexes - they can't control their arms initially and sometimes this can wake them up.

The3Bears · 27/03/2012 16:59

Well i just got back from my scan and everything was fine and ITS A BOY! Grin
Im over the moon, so is ds and he keeps running around saying "im having a brother" "its a boy"
The scan was so funny though we really couldnt miss that he was a boy Blush and I had to jump around and have the bed tipped upside down to try and make him turn so she could meassure his spine, was v amusing :)

Gingerelle · 27/03/2012 17:22

Thx vino and yeah isn't Brighton lovely when it's like this?!

I feel like I've not felt as much movement from baby last couple of days but been mega busy so hoping that's why. On the plus side my tummy has finally 'popped' and I have a bump! Was away all weekend and DP said I look preg now- bought some maternity stuff on lunch break today to celebrate! And only a few days now till scan (fri) I CAN'T WAIT!!! so nice reading about all of yours.

Happy sunny afternoon all! G xx 19+4

Lovemarmite · 27/03/2012 17:39

Had scan today and have to go back for a 3D scan tomorrow. They couldn't be sure as the LO had their hands over its face and was looking down all the time and then moved its face away out of shot. However there's a suspicion of a cleft lip/palate. A bit shocked but at least they take it very seriously and want to get a 3D scan and do it quickly to make sure of the suspicion. A little scary when the sonographer asked another one to step in, then a senior midwife and then scheduled the 3D scan in another town... pants, I hope tomorrow will be better than today.
I was told not to google, but of course I couldn't stop myself.. it seems that often it shows up very clearly on the ultrasound and so I guess if it's just a suspicion, then there's a chance all is fine. Fingers crossed it is, ah x

Westcountrylovescheese · 27/03/2012 18:28

Lovemarmite, of all the ailments in the world a cleft lip/palate is easy to deal with so don't worry too much. Sounds like it was pretty scary though getting people in. It's a condition that is hardly known in this country as they are so good at being able to fix it early. So don't worry too much if that is the outcome, and from what you say it might not be.... Fingers crossed for you though for tomorrow.

Vinolover · 27/03/2012 18:32

Good luck for tomorrow Marmite. You must have been beside yourself when the sonographer got the others to come in :( How awful. What time is your appointment tomorrow?

fairtradelu · 27/03/2012 19:38

Hi Marmite

Sorry for the massive delay in replying. Just wanted to let you know they picked up my strep B from a urine sample I submitted early on in the pregnancy due to a urine infection. I don't think they check standard pregnancy urine samples for it, but as they were looking for the urine infection they did different tests on it. Hope that helps!
