Enfyshed I bow in awe of your energy! How are you doing it??! Total admiration!!

Russky I'm totally with you - sooooo tired right now, every position seems to be uncomfortable and bending over to get something from the floor is nearly impossible! Urgh... Still have 4 weeks left at work as well, which is going to be... interesting....
Saying that I think the baby maybe has dropped today, not sure that I'm not imagining it, but bump seems to be bigger lower down and smaller up near melts ribs. Have heard that this means the baby is likely to come within 2-4 weeks... Any idea if this is true anyone?
This could change things work wise I guess... Smile

Hope everyone's enjoyed the long weekend!
Xxx

BlueCrane · 10/04/2012 12:07

Realised I seem to have fallen off the thread (again) Blush but spotted you all and thought I'd pop in and see how you all are!

wommer how many weeks are you now? I'm 33 today and my bump feels a different shape this morning and my back has started to hurt again so was also wondering if LO has 'dropped' a bit overnight/over the weekend...I have 3 weeks left at work, 5 til my DM arrives from overseas... Hmm apparently both me and my brother were 'a few weeks early' to quote DM, so now I'm wondering about the 'dropping' / change of bump shape that you mention amd whether I could have an early arrival??!!!

Wommer · 10/04/2012 12:51

Hi again blue Smile
I'm 34 + 2 and am definitely a different shape than yesterday. Also don't seem to have heartburn like I did before, which would suggest the baby is lower and putting less pressure on my stomach.
Can't WAIT to finish work, think I may have overreached myself there.... Ah well, if the baby comes early then that won't be happening!

It's good that you can get some idea from your DM of what maybe ahead. Have you got sisters who have been early as well? Interesting to know how much that runs in families.
I've not got that as I was adopted as a baby, my DM has been totally brilliant tho - researching everything she possibly can for me! Grin and SHOPPING!!

Looking online it seems that you drop earlier with first pg than later ones, and it is all over the place as to how long after that the baby comes. Also haven't found anything official who agrees with the old wives tale that first babies are always late - that seems to vary hugely as well!

Off for a tour of the local maternity hospital tonight and then NCT at the weekend.

Hope everyone's Tuesday is going well Smile
Xxx

iowmum88 · 10/04/2012 14:05

I'm one of four and my DM went overdue with all of us, so was quite a shock when I had DS at 34 weeks as was expecting to go overdue. I have read that bump dropping is totally normal, my bump was still quite high when went into labour (family member actually commented that day saying It was still high before she knew I was having contractions).
everyone is different and I have realised every pregnancy is different as feel very different from 1st pregnancy, all we can do is just go with the flow and what ever happens happens, am 33 weeks tomorrow and have realised if I go into premature labour again I have just Got to deal with it the best we can especially as DP is working away for 2 and half weeks but can cum back if I do and hopefully in time!!

katykuns · 10/04/2012 16:27

wow Enfyshedd... where are you keeping that motivation? Can I have some!? hehe

Just tonight, Saturday and Monday night to go and I am finished with work!

I can feel her head moving down... I sometimes have the most horrid pains 'down there' when I am walking. Yesterday was pretty bad.. spent most of it making noises lol... walking around Tesco going 'ooof!' 'urrrgh!'... Got an appointment with midwife tomorrow, going to do a urine sample because I have just wondered whether the discomfort on my bladder is a possible urine infection... I hope not.

SirCharles... that was a really good deal :) I have a quinny Zapp xtra at the mo, which got in Jan sales. I want to get the Buzz as well, but have been convinced to leave it until after she is born :P
I have been hovering about on ebay constantly this last week. Got some sheets and bedding for the cot, sun visors for the car, decorative items I shouldn't be wasting money on :P... also a cheapy baby sling :)
At the moment... am washing a mass of 0-3 clothes... here's to hoping we have a cool summer so I can make use of the 9 jackets/fleecy tops lol. My Mum has bought a winter snowsuit for 0-3... by the time shes grown out of it, it will be August lol... seems like the baby brain is contagious!

Russki, I am also having irrational mood swings, I think its normal... I have been between bawling over stupid things, or ready to kill somebody over absolutely nothing. My partner left some empty packets on the counter and I practically turned into Satan at him... think he hid upstairs for a good half hour :P

Wommer · 10/04/2012 19:21

katykuns we've got the quinny buzz 3, have heard good things about it and it looks like it could do a serious spot of off roading to me! There's a shop in my town which does reconditioned second hand ones, so got the whole lot for £350 which I think's pretty good.

What's everyone's opinion/ experience on sling types? Really want to get one but not a clue which brand/style to go for.

Enfyshedd · 10/04/2012 21:14

Wommer & Katykuns - I mainly made the tea supervised while DP did the painting & furniture shifting (although I was "allowed" to move the mattresses and help guide the divan down the stairs). I was also in charge of ordering DSSs to move their clothes and getting them to put them away properly rather than chucking them in a heap on the floor Grin.

Bump is starting to feel really heavy now though. I don't seem to have got bigger over the last couple of weeks - just heavy & solid. Wriggles has happily returned to digging his/her feet into my ribs during work today which is really distracting when you're trying to concentrate on an awkward piece of work. I think I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't in the same bloody place every single day!!! It's the only thing which is driving me completely up the wall (apart from the fact that this morning that my MS still hasn't gone away after retching as soon as I got downstairs this morning - I'm 33+2 for crying out loud!)

katykuns · 11/04/2012 11:49

Wommer that's really good :)
Slings, I have just got a wrap type one that stretches. It's really cheap, so if I don't get on with it it's no real loss.

Enfyshedd - I know what you mean about feeling heavy. There is lots I want to get on with, but I am really finding it hard to bend down or even stand for long periods of time :( Have bad back/pelvis pain... it sucks!

I appear to have got bigger overnight, have had a few comments! 35 weeks today!

Wommer · 11/04/2012 12:06

katy had a tour of the local maternity wing of the hospital last night and they really recommended something called a kangawrap - which looks really good. So good that dh (who has been a bit sneery about baby wearing as something that hippies and vegetarians do lol) was quizzing the lady about them and has now decided that we should definitely get one Smile. Quietly chuffed at winning that one without even trying Grin

Weighed myself this morning (after promising myself that I'd stop that) and have put on 1/2 a stone in 10 days.... I'm pretty certain that most of it's fluid as my hands and feet have really swollen in the past week. Have had to take off most of my rings (have hung on to wedding and engagement but they get checked daily) and every night I have the biggest dents in my legs from wearing socks, which take ages to go away.
Have this weird image that there must be that much water in me now that if I ever fell over I'd be like a water bomb and splash everywhere!

enfyshed I helped my friend move house like that a couple of weeks ago, my contribution was mainly (only) bringing dh to do lots of lifting and driving of his van and drinking tea. Despite this I still got knackered before anyone else!

Don't know how I'm going to do another 3.5 weeks of commuting and working.... Urgh.

Hope you're all goodxxx

alwaysanauntie · 11/04/2012 15:43

Afternoon all, Wommer good work with the sling :o I'm going to try some out at my local sling meet after the lo has arrived as we've already been given a baby Bjorn & I dont really want to spend more money unless I know it'll suit the baby.

katy totally agree with the feeling massive at 35 weeks, I think this one had a growth spurt as I can see every movement through my skin now :s am also avoiding weighing myself as I checked last week & have put on 1st 8lbs & i'd rather not know about any extra! I've also got stoopid swollen ankles at the end of each day, & have only been able to wear wedding ring for months (engagement ring waaaay too tight).

enfyshedd congrats with the room reorganising, such an achievement :) we still have to tile, paint & plumb in our ensuite as well as recarpet & redecorate our bedroom, move back in & put furniture in nursery! At least our lodger is moving out this weekend so we can move junk into spare room, but DH did his back in trying to do too much over bank holiday so we have to wait for him to get better before we can do anything else :( am just hoping I don't go into labour early as the house is such a state!

littleray is everything ok? You've been unusually quiet the last couple of days, hope all's well.

alwaysanauntie · 11/04/2012 15:50

Ps: I finish work on Friday - woohoo! Am sooo happy I won't have to drag my arse down the road & get on the train every day, not to mention sitting in an uncomfortable chair in a too hot office for 8 hours a day :o (apologies to those still slaving away :) )

VeronicaSpeedwell · 11/04/2012 15:59

I somehow managed to accidentally hide this thread! Shock I thought something was wrong...

Slowly catching up. I'm in awe of everyone's activity levels! I'm feeling quite big now, and have developed spd which is not amusing. Still have SO much to do, and not finishing work until the second week of May, which feels like an age away.

Sorry not to check in with you all individually, but sending good vibes to everyone. I'll pay more attention in future Blush.

AlexTasha · 11/04/2012 20:56

Hey everyone, I got my pram delivered today! The Uppababy Vista in the wheat colour. It is BRILLIANT! My DH is so impressed too. So easy to manouvere and such a sturdy pram. I love it, and the fact that it comes with the carry cot, rain cover and mosquito net too is such a plus.

I also put up a wall decal in the nursery today, which completely makes the room. It is massive, a big tree with lots of swirly leaves and birds and cool little critters. Its really colourful and bright.

I am already on maternity leave, even though I'm only 34 weeks, I took it nice and early (last week) and have been LOVING being at home and not commuting every day. It is brilliant. I start pilates tomorrow too, so that should stop me being a complete couch potato!

We have been doing loads of painting, put in a new light in the lounge, a new extractor fan in the bathroom, going to do the hallway this weekend. I mainly just edge the borders and DH does all the hard labour!

Hope you are all well :)

Littlerayofsunshine · 11/04/2012 21:07

Always - I'm okay thanks... Trying to keep my spirits high even though I am desperately missing dp.

Bump has dropped more today... and been getting some shooting niggly pains like vertically up through me if that makes sense? :s

Got mw tomorrow, bloods too. ergh. going to ask her a few Q's. i'm anaemic too so taking two tablets a day, and getting annoyed as I dont really feel much different other than more constipated. :(

baby is VERY +++ active. to the point where I think "Are they sure there's not two in there?"

I had the same problem, for some reason this thread doesnt show up in my "Threads i'm on" page?

hippieshake · 11/04/2012 21:51

Evening everyone!! You all sound like you're getting into the nesting vibe :)
DH and I have nearly finished the nursery, got some little odd jobs to do around the house, and a new front door/flagging in the front garden... but that's it.

Had a MW appointment yesterday, Baba is lying head down down, starting to feel quite heavy lower down. DOing quite well with my weight though, 33 weeks on Friday and I've gained exactly 1 stone.

We had an NCT class on Saturday and did lots of breathing to prepare us for a natural birth. My birthing ball arrived in the post today, DH got very excited and then fell off it :/

I can't believe how close it's getting for us all!! x

katykuns · 11/04/2012 22:30

Ooo Wommer, I'll check that sling out.

Had an appt with midwife today, and everything is alright, although she hinted I need to eat and drink more as something low in my urine (kito's keetos?) so I must be more careful... I knew I hadn't been drinking enough, because I have always been pretty awful at drinking enough lol.
I asked about looking around the hospital, apparently we aren't allowed at our one due to infection control issues and disrupting what happens on the ward! How silly :S Would have felt better knowing what to expect, but guess I will just have to hope it isn't too horrid lol.

I haven't weighed myself, mainly because I was overweight to begin with and I know if its bad I will just starve myself! So best to avoid those scales hehe

Can't wait until Tuesday morning when I have no work and I can just potter about the house and collapse under the mass of weight lol

CrackersandCheese · 12/04/2012 08:35

Hi everyone,

It's been an age since I posted, but I've been trying to keep on top of the thread.

I find it quite mad that we're all heading towards the finishing line. It feels like it's come around so quickly.

katy- ketones will be in your urine when your body starts burning fat for fuel. I think that they're normally excreted this way but the must be at a higher level for them to pick it up with testing. I guess it's not ideal right now if your body is trying to pack on the reserves for your little baby. You're body will be prioritising baby before you and so all your calories will be going that way and then your body is scrimping to keep you going. I think that's right, anyway!

Slings-wise, I ordered the Closer baby carrier sling and it seems quite good. I've tested it out on a teddybear and it wasn't too complicated!

We still have the pushchair, changing bag, baby monitor and some more bamboo nappies to buy yet but other than that, I think we're sorted.

I had some brilliant news about my SMP. Turns out that the company I was made redundant from had to calculate my weekly amount based on the time period I got my redundancy pay through. This means that the weekly wage is ridiculously high. I thought that they had made a mistake when they said how much money I would get. I'm still in shock! So, I'm pretty chuffed about that and pleased the whole business worked out in my favour in the end.

On the downside, I had a horrible weekend. My poor cat died. He was only just over a year old and it was so sudden. As far as we knew he was completely healthy. I just found him on the floor, still warm. It was awful. I had a complete meltdown and my body just went into one long braxton hicks contraction the whole day. I feel really sorry for our other cat as they were best friends. She keeps looking for him... :-(

33 weeks today. The MW led unit have invited us along to a birthing workshop thing at the weekend, which I'm looking forward to. We've also done two hypnobirthing classes and have NCT coming up. I feel like I'm studying for some sort of qualification!!

xx

Wommer · 12/04/2012 10:38

So sorry about your cat crackers Sad

Any idea which change bag you're getting, there're so many to chose from and I've no idea which are good and which are a total waste of money!

Thought maybe as we're getting closer I might start the list again, as some due dates must now only be about 1 month away!

Xx

Rugbylovingmum - edd 20/5/12 (c-section booked 15/5/12) - girl??

Hi all,

sorry I never find time to post but I have been lurking. I had my 34 week appt this morning and all looking good. I'm measuring 32cm and baby is head down which is nice although the midwife still agrees I'm not likely to go into labour naturally. I think we have everything ready now - I bought 2 changing mats and a Britax changing bag at the weekend. The bag is a boring black but lovely and soft with lots of pockets/sections so I can fit baby and DDs stuff in and hopefully still be able to find things.

My DB, DSIL and nieces have been visiting this week so we've had 3 very excited little girls tearing around the house (3yr, 2yr ad 1yr old). It was exhausting but they all had a fantastic time and were amazingly well behaved - very few tantrums or arguments. It was so cute watching DD run around hand in hand with her cousins Grin. It reminded me why we are so keen for DD to have a brother or sister, I just hope she gets on with her new sister as well as she does with her cousins (or brother - the sonographer thought beanie was a girl but wasn't certain so we could still be in for a surprise).

Sorry for the lack of personals, I'll try to get back on later.

alwaysanauntie · 12/04/2012 12:19

crackers rubbish about the cat :( (i'd be distraught if anything happened to our dog) but yay for more maternity pay :)

Wommer I got the skip hop dash deluxe changing bag on eBay for $50 brand new. It's fairly compact which I like as I dont want to carry round a back-breaking amount of stuff so it will force me to rationalize what I take out & about. It's also got plenty of separate pockets & a zip up section for phone/keys, so I would recommend! As this is dc1 though, I haven't tried it out, but I did accost a lady in John lewis who had one before I bought it & she thought it was great :o

katy we're not allowed to visit our mat unit either, but I was given a DVD with birth advice & a video of one of the delivery rooms on it instead. I guess it will always look better when they have it spruced up for filming though :) plus still hoping I can have lo at home, mw will hopefully come on Monday to check access etc ok.

i think my bump has changed shape and slightly concerned that the baby, which was sitting nicely head down, has gone breech... hiccoughs seem to be coming from a higher spot, too.

Had my 34 week check today (I'm 34+3) and baby is now 3/5ths engaged (2/5ths palpable. As soon as MW felt, she said "Oh yes, this baby is low down!" and i explained about the very frequent BH's etc and she said all is fine, but she thinks i may have baby just before EDD? Baby is measuring 30cms, she wasnt too concerned as this was said with DD and she came out 8lb9 at 40+5. She said it might be that my pelvis hides a lot of the baby. I have a consultant appointment next week to double check and due to previous PPH. head down and not back to back so thats good.

Sorry about your cat crackers

Wommer · 12/04/2012 16:04

Russki I'm sure even if it has flipped round that they can keeping turning right up until they're born so hopefully it'll spin round again.
Mine did the other day whilst I was swimming - went from head down to transverse and then back to head down. You could tell due to the two huge lumps poking out of each side of my tummy!

LittleRay that's very exciting that yours is engaged so much - mines 3/5 above brim which I think means it's 2/5 engaged?
Do your bh's hurt now? Mine have started feeling almost premenstrual or sometimes stitchy.
Got the mw next week so might be more engaged then.
Ive got a gut feeling (not a clue why as have never done this before!) that I'm going to be early - like 37w, though this could just be wishful thinking... Don't want to give my already rather large baby too much extra growing time!
Hope you're all having a good day and thanks for the recommendations on change bags - need to sort that soon!
Bought a button up nightshirt today from m and a for hospital to make feeding easier - just the change bag left for hospital bag now. :)

Xx

Crackers - that sounds right... I am being far more careful... although I know partly why I've been bad and that's due to the damn heartburn! Knocked my appetite. Have bought a big box of Rennie (hate gaviscon) and am gonna try and eat small amounts often :)
So sorry about your cat :( that's terrible hugs

alwaysanauntie - Oh good luck on the homebirth :) I would love one...
I will see if there is a dvd or virtual tour or something for the hospital... it would really be nice to know what to expect - I HATE hospitals so any little comfort!

The changing bag I got was a standard one that I got customised by this lady - also got a matching changing mat and blanket with fleecy backing :) Not fancy or anything, but I like it hehe

How is everyone today? xx
