russki are you sure that wasn't 30% lager? WinkGrin

(so sorry.... Lol)

VeronicaSpeedwell · 20/12/2011 14:39

Xmas Grin Wommer

alwaysanauntie · 20/12/2011 16:28

bluecrane just had a thought, you could try using a chicken filet in your bra for the smaller side (by that I don't mean the meat product, but the breast enhancement that you can buy in many shops, la senza or Anne summers are probably a good bet). May help with your lopsidedness? :)

iowmum88 sainsbury do good non-wired support bras up to 38DD in store (may have more choice online as I can only ever find white but they do have other colours). Makes you feel like a granny :o but most comfortable I can find for a cheap price and good fit.

alwaysanauntie · 20/12/2011 16:32

russki I read smoked salmon is fine as it's been smoked. With health & safety laws sooo strict, I don't think there's much left out there that poses a genuine risk... Not going to miss out on Xmas day brekkie of scrambled eggs & smoked salmon on toast for anything! :o

alwaysanauntie · 20/12/2011 16:34

Ps: remember it's you that will have to give birth to a baby 30% larger than average :s

iowmum88 · 20/12/2011 16:52

Cheers always will have a look online, I dnt mind feeling like a granny along as I'm comfy at the min! Sure DP wouldn't totally agree (smile)
Got a wired bra from matalan just a normal t shirt bra and it's comfortable, tend to wear wired and non wired depending on what I'm doing.

Newtothisstuff · 20/12/2011 18:21

I just bought my 3rd set of bras today cheapo support bra from M&S my underwires were digging into the top of my belly where it's starting to come out from the top ouch !!

My skins been really dry too.. Managed no stretch marks with DD1 so fingers crossed my obsession with bio oil comes up trumps this time.. Although I'm probably bigger now than I was at full term with DD !! Damn it haha
Hope you ladies are all ok and are going to be chilling over Xmas Grin

VeronicaSpeedwell · 20/12/2011 18:28

Hello all, quickly checking in but am supposed to be working!

You've probably all seen it, but I find this article by Zoe Williams very interesting in relation to advice on food and drink in pregnancy.

I am not skipping runny eggs if they're cooked at home. Any egg from a supermarket will have a Lion mark stamped on it, meaning it's from a vaccinated chicken, so the chances of getting salmonella that way are miniscule. I am fastidious about listeria advice, because that can cause birth defects, but I really think the guidelines about eggs should have been updated, or at least made more nuanced, since vaccination was introduced.

My boobs seem to have slowed down, thankfully, since I had already got from a 32B to a 32D and wasn't keen to continue at the same rate! I am wearing these super attractive Marks bras, which at least are nice and cheap, comfy, and seem to reach nicely round to incorporate the 'side boob'.

Had some baby squirming action yesterday -- all quiet today! I'm looking forward to it becoming more of a regular thing.

Hope you're all ready for Christmas -- special thoughts to Dozeyland, it must be extra tough for you right now.

Dozeyland · 20/12/2011 20:57

Thank you VeronicaSpeedwell, very tough indeed. Just want it out of the way already. i'm usually Mrs Christmas Grotto, but this year i am Bah humbug, make the day special for DD as she deserves it, but other than that - roll on 2012...

Hope you're all well x

hippieshake · 21/12/2011 18:12

Feeling pretty worried about work. I had a day off two weeks ago due to feeling ill. I found cover for my shift, I didn't just phone in sick. The day after I got taken into the office and told that I couldn't be ill again before Christmas. My boss also suggested cutting my contracted hours from 20 to 16 a week if I'm finding it too hard. I told her that I'm not, I just wasn't well.

This morning I woke up to have the room spinning around me. I managed to make it to work, where my boss told me to go to the Doctors. The Doctor said I have the remains of a virus (from the other week) and a viral ear infection. She said I can't take antibiotics and just to rest until Christmas. It was my last shift tomorrow, so I phoned work and let them know what's wrong, and that I'd be back on Boxing Day.

I'm worried that when I go back they will tell me off for being sick, and try to cut my hours. Can they cut my hours?

Sorry to moan, I'm just a bit worked up about it xx

karatekimmi · 21/12/2011 19:35

Not sure if they can do anything hippie , but it doesn't sound like your having a good time of it. Are you in a union? Could citizens advice help? Could the doctor write a note to say it's not pregnancy related? I'm sure others will have more (and better) advice! Is it worth posting on a different thread more relevant to employment? Sorry I can't be more help, but always happy to listen to a moan!

BlueCrane · 22/12/2011 11:14

hippie I really don't think they're allowed to do that (ie cut your hours) as I think that legally you're even allowed to work at reduced hours and still receive full pay for a period of time anyway when pregnant and employers just have to deal with it. I'm sure Citizens Advice could give you a clearer answer and the legal jargon/references/paperwork to back it up... but see this link in the first instance which clearly says that it is unlawful for them to try and cut your hours down! www.direct.gov.uk/en/parents/moneyandworkentitlements/workandfamilies/dg_10026556

Really hope you feel better soon...am sure the stress of your work situation will not be helping your recovery!

PeahenTailFeathers · 22/12/2011 14:38

I had my 20 week scan yesterday, a little early because of Christmas.
It's a girl! I'm so excited!
Now I just need to think of some names. Hmm ...

Wommer · 22/12/2011 14:50

Ooooooooh peahen how exciting and what a wonderful early christmas present for you! Xxx

PeahenTailFeathers · 22/12/2011 17:59

Thanks, Wommer. Now I can hit the sales and buy loads of baby clothes - I can't wait! I do feel very lucky, though, that I was scanned early.

BlueCrane · 22/12/2011 18:15

always i took your advice re. the 'chicken fillet' thing as I remembered a swimsuit I'd bought had some removal pads in it so have been feeling much more even today Xmas Grin thank you!!

peahen congrats on the scan and flavour confirmation...happy sales shopping!

My StepM came to stay the other night and brought lots of knitting patterns for me to look at...realised I hadn't begun to think about clothes for LO, how many I'll need, what type etc etc...bit daunted by it all TBH. Might stick to being creative turning the office/spare room into a nursery for the moment Xmas Blush BUT...think I may have felt beany starting to move...a few bubble popping type sensations if that makes sense?! 17+2 today...only 2.5 weeks until my scan which will be when I am 19 weeks...and then thinking HELP! nearly half way already Xmas Shock Xmas Shock

How is everyone else doing?

Dozeyland · 22/12/2011 20:47

Bluecrane: I know what you mean with the bubble popping feeling, I remember this with DD1, and i'm feeling baby move too now, I'll be 20+5 for my scan on the 7th Jan, Hope it goes well.

congratulations Peahan :)

hippieshake · 22/12/2011 21:01

Is anyone else eating loads? I think it's mostly Christmas (I tend to indulge) but all I can think about is food lately. Going to end up a chunky monkey if I don't watch out :) 17 weeks.... 3kg weight gain so far.

Peahean congrats on the baby girl!! How wonderful. They have such lovely clothes for girls out there.

BlueCrane · 23/12/2011 10:54

hippie I tried on a couple of t-shirts yesterday and they are still more than fine around the bump area but must either be pulling too tight across my now larger boob area or my arms have got fatter as they were just too tight under the arms which I was quite annoyed about...so definitely had several moments of feeling very frumpy yesterday!! Think I'm going to try and start going swimming in the new year and going for more walks at lunchtime (if it's not too cold and wet) as really don't want to put loads of extra weight on that will be a total pain to lose again!! Christmas doesn't help either TBH though!!

dozey glad you can feel the bubble popping too Xmas Smile thinking of you over the next few days...have you got family around for support?

Nearly out of work for Christmas and indeed 2011 Xmas Grin won't be back until 4th Jan after lunchtime today...yeah!!! Unfortunately think I may be getting a cold though...can feel my throat getting sore and my head starting to feel fuzzy...why oh why does this happen every Christmas?!?! Hmm

hippieshake · 23/12/2011 13:48

Bluecrane I don't have a bump yet really, although my jeans are starting to feel a bit tighter. I'm at that inbetween 'I just feel a funny shape not pregnant' stage. I'm trying to make sure that I eat healthily over Christmas too. Despite all of the biscuits :)

What does the bubble popping feel like? I'm waiting to feel my first movements but I'm not sure what I'm waiting for.

x

Dozeyland · 23/12/2011 20:09

Bluecrane I have great family support, and we will be having dinner with my Dad and sister tomorrow, SIL on xmas day, then the ball is rolling until Wednesday until the long-awaited visit.

New on DP, he has a meeting on 4th Jan with probation about a transfer to open prison in the new year, so fingers crossed. and may be able to attend the birth, again big fingers crossed...

On the down side, I got some unexpected money through which i thought was bonus, then i got an even more unexpected 600.00 bill through :( great timing, money is short anyway as DP is away... oh well done & dusted, money is only an object i suppose (unless you have lots of it :) )

I think i'm started to have little braxton hicks too, i did with DD this early, only tiny, then they got so strong towards the end (all good help for an efficent labour i got told, and they were right!) the established labour was 2ish hours...
eek.

The popping feeling is like flicking, like something is flicking your tummy inside...
then it gradually turns into little kicks, then as you get bigger you get elbows and feet in your ribs!

Whats everyones plans for Christmas? any new years resolutions?

Enfyshedd · 23/12/2011 22:09

It's moving!!! About half an hour ago, I was looking down at my stomach and it lurched to one side - DP then put his hand on my stomach and I felt something hit his hand. It's not wind!!! Xmas Grin

Of course, it stops the second I put my hand there...

hippieshake · 23/12/2011 22:10

Dozey I hope everything goes well for your DP. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have quite a bit of gas at the moment so I'm not sure I'd notice flicking. I wish I could feel it, I don't feel very pregnant at the moment. I keep wishing I'll feel it everyday.

My Christmas plans are to walk my dogs, and then go to my eldest sisters along with her DH and two children, my other sister and her DP and my Mum and Dad. It usually gets quite chaotic, so I'm only going to stay for an hour or two after dinner.

New Years resolutions are to try and stop worrying that something will happen to the baby, and to learn more Spanish :)

Do you have any resolutions? xx

iowmum88 · 24/12/2011 07:25

I have been feeling the flicking and also some times it feels like it's turning, like my tummy does a little flip.
hippie don't worry if u can't feel much u never know 1 day soon u may just get a big wallop!
It's just mainly me, DP, DS and MIL for Christmas I'm cooking christmas dinner for the 1st so wish me luck! I have delia to guide me through it! Tonight I'm on my own so I'm playing Santa sorting presents and things!! Very excited for it all! Got a busy day getting everything sorted and making a pavlova and trifle!
Hope u all have a great Christmas and pigs out!!! Xxx

hippieshake · 24/12/2011 17:52

Is anyone else feeling quite sore/uncomfortable in the womb area at around 17 weeks? I feel bruised almost. At first I thought I might have a UTI but the Dr checked my urine the other day.

Also..
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL YOU LOVELY MUMMIES-TO-BE!!
