veronica and lobba you guys have better maternity packages than I do, I'm just hoping I can get them to pay me a little more than statutory! It will be a massive salary drop so just really lucky that my OH has a good salary.

So nice to hear about the new scans and measuements.

I pay £2 per pic at my hospital and they always give you a few extra too....

GingerLemonTea · 10/01/2012 21:46

Hi all,
Nice to hear about all the scans. Had mine today. Everything is looking good with baby, but placenta is anterior & a bit low. I've to go back at 32 weeks for another scan. Sonographer lovely, very thorough & said it's likely placenta will move up as uterus grows.
MS has went away just this past week & feeling good. Hope you are all well.

BlueCrane · 11/01/2012 10:12

Morning all...had a quick gander at my scan notes last night and I think beany is on the short but tubby side Smile with head circ and abdominal circs high on the scale and femur length bang on 50th so hope I've interpreted that correctly! I also feel huge and am only 20+1 with DC1. Can't wear any non-mat trousers (except one pair of work trousers but they're done up with multiple hairbands!!), even non-mat leggings are uncomfortable as they keep falling down as won't stay up over my bump!! In terms of tops some are still ok but I managed to get some nice mat blouses from eBay so am starting to wear those for work now!

Re. mat leave I have to use up this year's worth of AL before my mat leave starts so will techinically finish and go off on annual leave to start with before my mat leave kicks in. I then get 90% pay for 6 weeks, then SMP for a further 33 weeks and then nothing for the last 13 weeks, but I do still get my car allowance all the way through and I think will also get paid for the bank holidays that occur while I'm off. We're having to save up at the moment to cover the deficit as it will make a big dent in our monthly income!! My plan is to take a full year off and then go back (hopefully!) 3 days a week. It is crazy how different the policies are from place to place, though I think what I get (aside from the car allowance) is the minimum that employers can offer.

Scan photos for us are £5 for 2 or £3 for 1 (I think) We only got one at our 20wk scan as beany wasn't feeling very helpful for photos so there was only really one good one!

Right...best get back to work!

Wommer · 11/01/2012 13:27

blue I also feel MASSIVE and am 21+3 with dc1. It's not helped by there being a girl at work (admittedly ridiculously fit girl who still gyms 5 times a week) who is 32w and honestly is barely showing.... Grrr!

I almost look like I've got HER in my stomach!
Have comforted myself that running/rowing/weights 5x per week can't be that sensible if you're due to pop in 7 weeks.... But really am just jealous!

Xxx

BlueCrane · 11/01/2012 15:29

wommer I know exactly how you feel, there's a girl at my work who's 30 weeks now and I swear our bumps are the same size Blush admitedly she's quite a bit taller than me which might affect the impact of the bump (I'm only 5'2'') but I'm still a bit Envy as I do feel huge already!

And as if to rub it in I have realised this afternoon that my one remaining pair of non-mat trousers for work may have reached the end of their usefulness as I have 4 hairbands strung around the various buttons and am still feeling constricted in them...love these trousers Sad My comfort today is probably impaired by my painful trapped wind which beany keeps bouncing on though Smile

mrsallcock · 11/01/2012 16:48

You all sound like your doing very well with your 2o week scans. I had one on Monday, my baby has not got enough amnio fluid round her. My consultant is hoping my body will produce some more fluid over the next two weeks. I had a leakage caused by an amnio test and laser ablation so it is possible I make some more. Any advice.
I've been in maternity trousers since I was about 7 to 8 weeks, now cannot get in the first pair I brought. (originally had twins, one died at 17 weeks) Be proud to be in maternity clothes, and if any friends have anyleft from their maternity time, ask if they will lend them, very handy.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 11/01/2012 16:55

Really sorry to hear you've got extra worries after the scan, mrsallcock, and also very sorry to hear about the loss of your second twin. It must be very hard having that sadness mixed in with the excitement, my thoughts are with you. I have no knowledge about the fluid, but have you tried starting a thread on that specific question? I've read lots of ladies discussing fluid over the last few months, I'm sure there is some good expertise around MN.

On the subject of maternity clothes, I've just been out and bought my first jeans. Sooo comfy. I spent more than I wanted, but I reckon that a few good things will serve me better than a pile of stuff that makes me feel like a sack of potatoes. That's the theory, anyway! A good haircut might be in order too. I'm going to do a big sort out this weekend and hide all the stuff that won't do up any more.

CrackersandCheese · 11/01/2012 19:30

Hi all

Mrsallcock I'm sorry to hear you're having a difficult time of it. I also think it would be good to post separately on the fluid thing. I'm sure there's plenty of good advice out there.

Look at all of you with your weights and measurements. I had to go through my notes to see what mine were. They all seem average at the moment. I don't seem to have a weight on there, but I suppose that must be average too, unless I have a really dense and muscly baby (highly unlikely).

I can also report no leaky boobs here. I can't quite believe they will actually be producing milk. It is going to be a shocker when my milk comes in I think.

Are you all watching One Born Every Minute later? I love that programme.

Also, a little bit of advice if I may. Following my redundancy, I did apply for a temp job but found out yesterday that I didn't get it. They only had positive stuff to say about the interview etc. They were aware of my pregnancy...

I've been approached by a company today to do some freelance work. It's quite a meaty project, will probably be 1 or 2 days a week, throughout the year- although I do need to confirm the length of contract (let's presume it's a year for argument's sake). They've invited me in for an interview next week. The question is, should I tell them I'm preggo? I always thought that I wouldn't deceive a company, but I'm a bit reluctant to say anything before getting an answer as I really don't want it to affect my chances of getting the work. I reckon I can probably hide my little bump with a nice scarf and loose top. Is that really bad?

hippieshake · 11/01/2012 20:29

Hello lovely ladies!!

Had my scan today... it's a girl!!!! I'm over the moon :) She is apparantly nice and strong and big, I have zero bump yet so I don't know where she's hiding!

Mrsallcock Sorry to hear about your news, will you keep us updated as you go?

Crackers I would probably tell them, only because they are going to find out anyway. It depends on how you feel though, maybe get a feel for them in the interview, if they seem quite down to earth, tell them. If they seem quite stuffy then maybe keep it to yourself xx

alwaysanauntie · 11/01/2012 20:55

crackers I agree with hippieshake , see what kind of vibes they give out. Only other thing you may need to look into is if the freelance work affects any maternity allowance you'd be entitled to (if you were planning on claiming it).

hippieshake congrats on the girl, so exciting finding out what flavour everyone's got! Have been hunting on eBay for cots today & had a look in john Lewis (nice dropside one for $100) so hope to get something this weekend. The prams are still too scary for me to look at, so much choice...

I've had 2 late nights on the trot (11pm, we get up at 6 so that's only 7 hrs sleep compared to usual 8-9 hrs :o ) so am tucked up in bed already... Sleep well everyone!

Dozeyland · 11/01/2012 21:00

Hello All, Hope you're all okay. I've had a bit of a down day today :( Visited DP and he seems fed up today, missing DD, Bump & I SOOO much. He can't believe how much DD is growing up, walking up to him and shouting "Dada" made me cry, and it's just so hard saying goodbye for another week.. Also kissed bump too which set me off. God I love him SO much its unreal. and i just hope to god he makes it on the day before EDD.

His letters to me are so lovely too, they always make me have butterflies and make me feel so loved. he's so amazing, he said that he hopes that he's at the birth of our 2nd bundle of joy so he can see my "super strength" again :)

Bump is moving lots now, mostly evenings when i sit down & relax. Really feel like i'm getting big. Is is true when people say that with your second you show quicker, but you slow down with growth towards the end? I hope so or i will be MAHOOSIVE....... eek

Really want to book into pregnancy pilates or yoga as my back is getting sore (changing nappies, bathing DD, bending etc) and i just feel so stiff.

Mrsallcock Keep us updated and i'm sorry you're experiencing this worry and even more sorry about your other twin xx

karatekimmi · 11/01/2012 21:30

Hi all

Dozey it must be so hard, I know it probably doesn't feel like it, but it'll be no time at all when you and your DP are holding your new baby! Sending positive vibes!

Had my 20 week scan, everything fine, but I can't find any measurements on my sheets! :( My scan photos were £5 for one or £10 for three! Feeling a little ripped off! Double :(
No idea of the gender - was looking for hints (well a willy really) but nothing obvious! It'll have to be a surprise!

Feeling quietly organised in a minimalistic way! Deciding I have no idea what I am doing or will need so will wait until baby's here and figure it out then! Obviously I have a cot and push chair, and car seat but other than that we'll brave it out!

What do you refere to you bump/baby as? I keep calling "it" a she, but then have to say we don't know, or baby, but feel it deserves a nick name! We have our names sorted too, but don't want to give them away and using one before it arrives!

Have kept up my gym going and running (albeit a very slow jog/walk) but the midwife seemed fairly horrified when I asked if it was still okay to keep going! Have been 'allowed' to walk and swim! Feeling very disgruntled and was under the impression the fitter you were the easier labour is. Am tempted to keep going, but should I ask for advice then not take it?

Finally allowed our pregnancy to go public on Facebook after the 20 week scan, what about others? I know some people feel it's not appropriate, but we have lots of friends/aquaintences over seas who we only keep in touch with through fb.

Anyway off to bed now, far too tired

hippieshake · 12/01/2012 07:24

Good morning!

How is everyone today?

When did you/are you going to buy your pram? I know which one I want and have seen it in the shop. I just don't know if it's too soon. Also, when shouldIi think about buying the cot?

Karate We've been calling her 'Baba J' (my last name is Johnson) is seems to have caught on, now everyone calls her that. It's nice to be able to say 'she' not 'it'.

xx

lobba · 12/01/2012 09:48

Morning, unfortunately I've got a really bad sore throat - I've had this a couple of times previously and its always resulted in me losing my voice which isn't much good in my job (teacher!). I've decided to be sensible this time and take time off before it gets that bad. I always feel really guilty about taking time off even though I know its more important to look after myself- especially now!
karatekimmi I've been going to the gym as well (cycling and walking) and I ran a couple of times in the Christmas hols. I haven't told my mw but none of my friends have commented and they're a pretty opinionated bunch! I figure that as long as I don't push myself too hard and I don't get any pain everything should be ok. I enjoy exercising and if I stop now I'm sure it will be even harder to start back up after I've given birth.
We've only bought a car seat so far - we are hoping to get a new car soon so everything else will have to wait until we've saved up again - people have said they have things we can have , I just need to find out what they have so I know what we need to get ourselves.

BloominB · 12/01/2012 10:38

Hi, I've just joined MumsNet - need some pregnant friends to chat too - can I join this group?
I'm pregnant with first baby, very excited but nervous aswell!
Have a nice baby bump now and beginning to feel a bit better at last. However, now the sickness has passed I'm eating all in sight..ooops.

BloominB · 12/01/2012 13:48

Thanks VeronicaSpeedwell. Nice to have somewhere to post /read about issues.
Very excited to have my 20 week scan after reading all the stories on here.
I'm concerned as I weighed myself this morning and have gained 16 pounds so far ..... I am 19+5. I got quite a shock on the scales. I know I've been eating a lot of junk so shouldn't be too shocked! I'm worried the baby will be very big. Trying to be good from today cutting out/down on sweets etc
What have other people gained at this stage?

iowmum88 · 12/01/2012 15:34

It's a boy!!!! So happy guna b great for DS.
My measurements seem to be on the lower end of the scale but she said it was fine as is within a week of due date! Estimated weight is 11oz. So not 2 bad over all.
He was hiding behind the placenta so all pics are basically of that. She gave me 7 for free as it took so long cause he was hiding and they had 2 get me to bump up n down then get up and jump up and down, go for a wee nothing worked so they sent me on a walk! So that was really sweet of her! Moving on Sunday from the Isle of Wight to near Sheffield so stressful times only had 3 half hours kip last nite so feeling shattered now.
Ordered my pram and car seat today!! So excited it's brilliant was so easy to push around and will be able to hold DS hand at the same time!!
lobba I have ordered my pram and got it delivered a couple of weeks before I'm due. Get looking in the sales some really good deals on.
Hope all are well we are all pretty much half way there now! Scary thought! X

AlexTasha · 12/01/2012 16:53

mrsallcock so sorry to hear your news, I really hope everything is OK :(

dozey it sounds like you and your DP are such a lovely couple, I really hope that he gets out for the birth. Must be so hard, especailly with your DD. I'm starting pilates and yoga when I go on maternity leave in April, can't wait!

Bloomin I have no idea how much I have put on cos I dont own a set of scales. Probably a good things as I feel huuuge. I had already put on 3 kilos when I got weighed at my 2nd midwife appointment at like 14 weeks so that wasnt a great sign....

crackers I know it's probably wrong, but I wouldnt say anything until they tell you if they want you in for a second interview or have got/havent for the job. I think their impression of you might focus on your pregnancy rather than your abilities if you tell them. Are you sure you want to be working whilst having a baby and everything though???

I saw the pram that I love it back in stock! So happy. I'm getting the Uppababy Vista in wheat. I'm just going to order without testing it, but it has such great reviews I'm sure it will be fine! Can't wait to get it. Is there a supersticion about having a pram in your house before a baby??? A lady at work told me it was bad luck. Oh well......

Enfyshedd · 12/01/2012 17:33

Just found a letter from the hosptial about my blood test results from my dating scan appointment in November - turns out my iron's low and I was supposed to contact my GP surgery for further info & possibly iron tablets. I've had a low iron count for a few years (was steadily declining between ages of 23 & 27 - when I wasn't menstruating due to being on contraceptive injection). It was higher than it was when I was 26, but still on the low end of the scale (never stopped me from giving blood though). Strange thing is, I haven't felt overly tired like I did when it dipped before? Anyway, after speaking to the really unhelpful receptionist at the doctors who wouldn't put me through on the phone to one of the practise nurses or doctors and said I would have to be put on iron supplements (excuse me, but what is her qualification in?), have decided that as I have my scan tomorrow afternoon, I'll speak to the midwife about it then. In the mean time, steak for tea tonight and homemade fruit cake (which even more extra dried fruit) being made tomorrow!

Can't believe I'm over halfway already...

Dozeyland · 12/01/2012 21:16

Hi everyone

Had a very tough day, feeling emotional about DP's visit on Wednesday. and also DD has been a bit sad/unhappy on & off the past few days which concerns me
:(
She's still her happy self but at times she gets upset for nothing (VERY out of her character.) I am maybe putting it down to teething/tiredness as she is completely wearing herself out now she is fully walking. and nappy changes since the past 2 days have been a nightmare on & off. she has never been a winging or crying baby. and i know she's too young to understand the full extent of our current situation, I have a feeling she just senses stuff, and also senses my emotions (which i try my best to control) She's also been a bit sensitive to men, (other than DP, Grampy and one of her uncles.) others she is very weary. again out of character, and little things like not wanting to come back to me sometimes from someone else holding her, and i think :( what have i done :( maybe its because I am the only one around at the mo, the only one doing everything and she knows i am up & down, the only one who says "no, you cant do that" (i try not to go on & on & on at her but its only when i feel she's going to hurt herself or cause harm etc)

She had her jabs after DP went (6 weeks ago, and she got like it then for like 3 days) then back to her normal happy self. then the past 2 days she has been up & down... its not constant all the time. just today has been testing.)

Sorry for my moan (again :( ) i think i may get evicted from this thread!

Had my consultant appointment today (in regards to my PPH with DD) and she said that I have a 10% chance of recurrence, I am to take iron daily to get my levels up in the event that it does happen and I have enough stores. She said that baby may be earlier than DD (just chances with 2nd pregnancy and also as DD was quick even though she was 5 days late) And she's made a note on my labour notes that i am to have the injection to help deliver to placenta this time, as this may help reduce a bleed.

What are everybody's birth plans?

Dozeyland · 12/01/2012 21:20

Oh and weight-wise.

I was 8 stone 4 ish before pregnancy (i am a slim 5ft8) and lost a bit due to BF DD.

9 weeks i was 9 stone 5.
16 weeks i was 9 stone 5. no weight gain.
now at 21+3 I am now 10 stone.

Bump is feeling bloated :(

hippieshake · 13/01/2012 08:01

Dozey Not really thought much birth plan wise yet. It's all so new to me! I'm thinking natural birth, and I've been doing pregnancy yoga and doing meditation. I'm hoping to get in the birthing pool to start, then just breath through it with gas and air.

I hope your DD is feeling a bit better today :)

Weight-wise, I've put 9lbs on in 20 weeks. No bump yet, baby is according to the sonographer 'a very good baby'. x
