veronica hang in there...I have also had similar thoughts since a friend only discovered her MC at her 20wk scan (baby had passed around 17 weeks but her body had held onto it) SadSad I think after my early MC in May I will also be v v pleased to get past our scan - which is on Tuesday when I will be 19wks. I'm not sure when one does fully 'relax' during pregnancy TBH...or even after LO is born...maybe this is just a taste of our minds forever being pre-occupied with their welfare?!?! Hope you're doing ok?

dozey so glad you got to see DP and will be able to see him again soon.

alextasha what a difficult situation with your twin...really hope things turn out better than it looks at the moment!

All well here except for this stupid cough which has been bothering me all week but have been having a productive time sorting out various bits at home, quite liking being off at the moment and not really looking forward to going back to work, though that won't be until Wednesday so a few days to go yet!

karatekimmi · 31/12/2011 02:26

veronica glad to see I'm not the only one freaking out and worrying about recieving bad news on my 20 week scan. I was taking anti malaria medication whilst (unknowingly) pregnant and have been worrying about side effects. Consultant didn't even know what drugs I was on when I went to a (totally pointless and massive waste of time) appointment. DH has banned me from reading stuff on the Internet!

Been very tearful over Christmas and spent lots of time panicking over what is to happen next year, not sure how I'll cope but the thought of non sleep, screaming babies, "helpful" comments from people is just freaking me out right now! People keep saying "you should do this",or "don't do that" and I haven't got a clue! I know logically that things will be fine, but these hormones are really killing me right now! Just need to stop crying!

Happy new year, here's to new additions!

Enfyshedd · 31/12/2011 06:21

BlueCrane - re. relaxing during pregnancy, I'm assured you never will for the rest of your life! (nervous lol) My grandfather is happy to hear of news of my appointments (lives a 4-5hr drive away, so lots of phonecalls and emails), but has said that he doesn't want to see any scan photos until he knows I'm ok - not quite "bugger the baby", but it's nice to think that he's got attached to me over the past nearly 30 years and is concerned about my welfare :)

Met my mum for lunch yesterday and we bumped into one of my one school friends. I don't keep in touch with a lot of people from school for personal reasons which my mum knows, and I never discuss my family on FB so I was a bit annoyed at mum for telling them with a huge grin that I was making her a grandmother next year. This from the woman who 3 1/2 months ago was wailing "I'm too young to be a grandmother!" down the phone at me. (need a rolling eyes smiley)

Wommer · 01/01/2012 00:29

Happy new year!! It's now officially the of the babies!! Xxxx

Angelyaz · 01/01/2012 04:57

Hello ladies, may I join you? (I hope so as I have just read through all 10 pages of the thread!)

I am 19 weeks today, have my 20wk scan on 9th and am SO excited! I always thought I would want a surprise gender baby, but now I'm actually pregnant I cannot wait to find out! I am convinced I am having a boy, plus the local pagan witch in my village reckons I am too, and she swears she's never very rarely wrong! Hmm

Aside from a little m/s in the 1st tri, I am loving pregnancy! I keep getting little spots on my cheeks, and could sleep for England (if it were an Olympics category I'd be a gold medal winner for sure!) but am otherwise getting off very lightly.

Right, will add myself to the list...

Happy New year everyone!! Here's to many good scans over the next few weeks x

AlexTasha · 01/01/2012 15:15

dozey I would be mad at my doc too if he had just missed telling me I had an iron deficiency! Although I wouldnt be suprised, my doctor is completely incompetant. Having a doppler is a relief isnt it, I love listening to it as well. My little one is usually around 120-145 I think, but depends whether I have just eaten (which is quite a often!).....

Welcome angel we have our 20 week scans on the same day! Exciting! I already know that I am having a boy though, but can't wait to see him again. I love scans.

It is the year of the dragon this year so we will all have fire breathing little geminis and tauruses I think! Happy new year to everyone! :)

Dozeyland · 01/01/2012 15:39

I'm a Taurus too, wonder if baby will be taurus or Gemini!

AlexTasha · 01/01/2012 16:14

I'm a Taurus too. Its funny my DP's birthday is March 25th, mine is April 22nd and LO is due May 28, so we will all have birthdays a month apart!

iowmum88 · 01/01/2012 18:51

I'm a Taurus as well. My birthday is may 1st and DP 6th June and baby 30th may! But with my track record of my DS being 6 weeks prem could go either way!! But hopefully not!
Xmas was nice my DP been working away this weekend so been just me and DS and am surprised he has been very well behaved and have really enjoyed myself.

Enfyshedd · 02/01/2012 18:44

Have been so tired over Christmas & New Year as I didn't have any holidays left to book off work, but I think I might have throttled DSS1 & 2 if I'd been off and dealing with the bouts of spoilt brat attacks (please god, don't let my LO be like DSS2 - I couldn't cope with 2 of them!!).

Have booked a (well deserved) long weekend for when I have my scan on the 13th, and will have to sit down with my manager in a few weeks to start planning ML dates (although I've already said I think May Day is an ideal time to start being just over 3wks before my EDD). Am hoping that as March & April is the normal time for earning loads of extra dosh with overtime that I won't be too tired to put in a few extra hours then.

Can't believe that it's nearly halfway already...

Just realised that I wasn't on the list.

BlueCrane · 02/01/2012 21:14

Evening all...quick question if I may...I have my next scan tomorrow - will be 19 weeks (can't believe that far already!?!?)...anyway...do I need to have a full bladder for the scan? Also, we don't want to find out the gender so hopefully we'll just say this to the sonographer before they get going and they will 'warn' us when not to look IYSWIM...is that the normal way it's done??

wommer and rugby hope your scans go well tomorrow too!

hippieshake · 02/01/2012 22:10

Bluecrane not sure on the bladder thing... but I have been wondering that too.

Looking forward to hearing about everyone's scan results x

LimeFlower · 02/01/2012 22:28

What does it say in the letter BlueCrane ?
In my letter it said, yes, have a full bladder.I'm not going to do the same as the last time and overfill myself. This scan will be longer than the first one as it's "anomaly scan" so I can imagine if bladder is too full the discomfort will last longer. The baby is definitely bigger than at 12 weeks.
As for the gender-what kind of scanning machine they have-2D is standard at the hospitals,I don't know whether they use 3D anywhere at the hospitals(correct me if I'm wrong). It's not easy to spot "the bits" at 2D so you don't have to look away.I'm going for a surprise either so will have to say at the start than I don't want to be told what flavour is it-if I manage to spot the danglies then hey ho.

BTW,I'm on May antenatal but might join in here as well-EDD 25th of May-baby #1,scan 10/01

Angelyaz · 02/01/2012 22:37

Hi bluecrane I asked my midwife this at the 16wk appt and she said, no, you don't need a full bladder as the baby and uterus will be larger and should be higher up, so not need to be pushed past the pelvis by a full bladder. But then if limeflower's letter says yes to a full bladder, maybe it differs from area to area. Also, I always assumed the sonographer would check with you before they started scanning if you want to know the sex, but no harm in preempting that. Hth, let us know how you get on, I have my 20 wk scan next mon and cannot wait!

bigboobsatlast · 03/01/2012 08:36

HI everyone, happy new year. Got my 20wk scan tomorrow and for whatever reason I am more nervous than I have been for any previous scan - its such a milestone I guess. Half way!
After much discussion, have decided to find out sex as thought we need all the help we can get to prepare as we have two on the way - if girls then we have loads of stuff if, if boys then I can sell/give away girls stuff and start looking in the sales!!

Anyone already had their 20wk scan?(sorry if I have missed this on the thread).

Oh what to do today with DD, the weather is AWFUL!

Rugbylovingmum · 03/01/2012 10:15

Hi all,

really looking forward to my 20 week scan today Smile. It's not until 3.30pm so still a bit of a wait. I'm hoping they aren't running too late as we have to pick DD up from nursery afterwards and it's on the other side of town.

At mt last 20 week scan I was told to have a full bladder but when I went in the sonographer asked me to pop to the loo as my bladder was too full Hmm. Prob best to drink something before the scan but not to much, this scan is a bit longer and as they need a really good look at all the bits they sometimes push quite hard in all sorts of places so a very full bladder would be very uncomfortable. I was asked at the start of the scan whether I wanted to know the sex. I wouldn't have known DD was a girl if she hadn't told me so I wouldn't have had to look away but it might be more obvious if it's a boy?? We are hoping to find out the sex today so I'm very excited Grin. I have to see the consultant afterwards - she did my c-section last time so it will be interesting to see what she recommends this time. I think hospital policy is to recommend a VBAC but after DD she said that I should just have the c-section booked in next time.

Good luck to everyone else having scans today!

Wommer · 03/01/2012 15:26

Hey all, just heading off for scan - 20w +2 today - wish me luck! Not finding out sex, so hopefully it's not too obvious on the screen!
Good luck with yours blue and rugby
Xx

AlexTasha · 03/01/2012 15:55

Oooo can everyone please tell us about their scans??? Goodluck to everyone having them today and tomorrow. My bladder seems constantly full so dont think I will worry about trying to drink any extra water!

blue we could easilly see my baby's little pee pee on the scan in 2D and that was at 15 weeks so I would definately make sure they knew you didnt want to know so they could tell you to look away! My fiance knew it was a boy before the sonographer said anything when we went to our gender scan at 15 weeks! It was really obvious.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 03/01/2012 17:20

Sending good wishes to Wommer and Rugby for today's scans, and to bigboobs for tomorrow, and welcome to Angel!

Thanks BlueCrane and karatekimmi especially for responding about my scan anxiety, and sorry not to have got back to the thread before now -- I unexpectedly had no internet and then went away. I am still very freaked out about it, but not long to wait now. I know that the chances are that all will be fine, but I think those 20-30 minutes are going to be very nerve-wracking. It makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only one who is worried about it. Your poor friend, BlueCrane Sad. I am lucky in that I'm feeling quite a bit of movement action now, but I am still really keen to get the scan over with.

The bladder question seems to be fully covered already, but my letter said no need for a full bladder. I am glad about that, because last time they were running 45 mins late and I ended up attempting to have half a wee, just to relieve the pressure. It was not fun!

Commutinghell · 03/01/2012 17:29

Hi, I'm due with a little girl on 27th May. I haven't posted on here before but had a look and noticed you'd mentioned a full bladder on the scan so I thought I'd drop in. My 20 week scan letter said to have a full bladder. I drank a pint of water but when they did the scan they said my bladder wasn't full enough so they couldn't see the location of the placenta. I've got to have another scan at 34 weeks to check it. I'm quite pleased to have another scan though Wink

BlueCrane · 03/01/2012 17:35

Hello, just back from 19wk scan and beany was there all curled up upside down in a little ball holding onto it's feet with it's hands and took lots of encouragement poking and jabbing and wiggling by the sonographer and me to get it to move so we could have a good look but all seems well Grin We got a good view of a foot coming towards the screen at one point which was fairly and the view of the all the heart chambers beating away was pretty amazing too...well, it all was, but they were my highlights We decided not to find out the gender and didn't see anything! DH reckons the sonographer referred to it as a 'he' at one point but I'm not treating that as anything confirmed as would only believe it if I actually saw it I think!

After the discussion re. full bladder or not I decided to go as I was (fairly empty) and see what they said - also had a bottle of water with me in case. But they said empty was fine and TBH the view was fine even though beany still quite low in my pelvis and I would probably have wet myself if I had a full bladder as the sonographer had to press quite hard to get some of the views needed as beany wasn't really playing ball in terms of being in the right position!

veronica if you can feel quite a bit of movement then I would suggest things are probably fine, my friend hadn't felt any movement and I think deep down she knew something was right (it was DC2 for her) but didn't really want to admit that might be the case IYSWIM.

Right, now off to try and finish my holiday to-do list before back to work tomorrow!

VeronicaSpeedwell · 03/01/2012 17:48

Hello Commutinghell! Nice to 'meet' you.

Ah, your scan story is so lovely to read BlueCrane! Congratulations Grin.

Thanks for the reassurance too -- I feel that I have been very lucky so far, I just can't believe I deserve it somehow. I'm going to just distract myself for a couple of days!

bigboobsatlast · 03/01/2012 19:09

congrats bluecrane so pleased to hear it went well today - the home straight now!! I am sooooooooo nervous about tomorrow its ridiculous. I hope everything is ok. Because ID twins there can be so many more complications (apparently). Lets hope this time tomorrow I am celebrating good news. I think I need to have a word with myself and calm down!

Good luck to those having scans this week - looking forward to hearing all the news.
