Congratulations Bluecrane :)

Our 20week scan is this Saturday, obviously DP will not be attending but i will tell him how it goes when he calls...I will be 20+5 by that point.

Are any of you 2nd timers feeling like you've got a bump sooner???

I now have an obvious bump, everyone says its noticable but tiny, but i feel huge! I guess i notice it more running about after DD... and my silly belly button has popped out sooner than it did with DD.. ergh lol

Visiting DP on Thursday, we can't wait (L)

CrackersandCheese · 03/01/2012 19:40

Hi all

Remember me?! It's been ages since I posted. I've read through most of what I've missed so hopefully up to speed.

My redundancy didn't turn out too badly in the end. I'm going to try and get some temp work in the next few weeks. The payout I got basically covers what I would have earnt this year, so it's really nice to think that I don't have to work if I can't find anything.

I'm currently spending my time buying stuff for the nursery and house in general (you might remember we moved house the same week I was told I was being made redundant). I'm loving ebay for bargins. I got a Leander hanging cradle for a third of the price than if I'd bought it new. It should be coming on Thursday. I'm very excited about that. Have any of you been buying anything?

I've got my 20 week scan on Thursday, when I will in fact be 19 weeks. I've been feeling the baby kick for a week and a bit now. I've felt it most days and my stomach moves nearly everytime. Family and friends have been having a good feel too, which is really nice. I have to say that it hasn't felt anything like flutters or butterflies though. Just like I'm being poked from the inside out. I must have missed the fluttery bit, I guess.

I should also say happy Christmas and New Year to you all.xx

Hi all,

back from our 20 week scan. Everything looked fine and healthy which is a relief Grin. Our beanie wasn't playing ball with position either and it was quite a struggle for the sonographer to see the bottom of the spine, kidneys etc but she managed in the end. She was great and really talked us through everything we were looking at, it was amazing to see the heart beating and beanie was waving her arms around and sucking her thumb Grin. It looks as though we are having another girl which is lovely but the position wasn't great so we can't be sure. It's quite nice - I can refer to beanie as 'she' and picture my little girl but know we could still have a surprise. I had to see the consultant afterwards and we went through my notes from DD's birth - I was very overdue, then my induction failed (rubbish contractions and didn't dilate) and I eventually had a c-section. His opinion was that as everything was right the first time (baby a good size and in position, gave it plenty of time, I'm an average size etc) and I failed to go into labour then I'm unlikely to have a straightforward labour this time and he recommended a repeat c-section. I agreed and so I'm booked in for the 15th May Shock. It's so weird having an actual date for the birth!

Blue - congrats on a great scan (and our sonographer said that she is very careful only to call the beans 'it' but people often mishear and think she said 'he' so I wouldn't believe it either)

Good luck to boobs and everyone else with scans tomorrow!

Rugbylovingmum · 03/01/2012 19:47

PS Sorry for me me me post but DD refusing to sleep so keep running up to resettle her, I'll be back to reply to everyone properly later when I get some peace.

AlexTasha · 03/01/2012 20:36

hey crackers i missed the flutters too and went straight to thumps and kicks, also been buying lots of baby clothes, but mainly 0-3 and 3-6 months so he will hopefully get the use out of them, not planning on buying too many newborn ones until i find out how big he is and then DP can also go on a quick shopping trip to pick up some if needed. Glad your redundancy turned out to be OK, you are really lucky to have got a whole years pay! Thats fantastic! My work are making people redundant and giving them a months pay.
rubgy and blue congrats on your scans and the good news! so glad to hear that everything is good and healthy. How cool to have an actual date rugby, that would be nice to be able to look forward to :)

hippieshake · 03/01/2012 22:07

Lovely news from all the scans everyone! It's made me even more excited for mine next week :)

The baby been kicking me too, I only felt flutters for about a week, and now it's proper kicks. I thought it was too early for proper kicks yet, but who knows! DH even felt it 2 nighs ago. It must be a little mover :)

Crackers glad you're back, I thought you'd vanished! x

Wommer · 03/01/2012 22:45

Hi all,
Back from our 20 week scan. All seems good - skull, spine, brain (had no IDEA they could see that!) fingers, toes etc etc etc. She said there was slight more
fluid in one kidney than normal which means I'm having another scan

Wommer · 03/01/2012 22:50

On 27th march, which will be 32 weeks. Apparently this can be an early indicator of the baby being prone to UTIs so they like to keep a check on it. Quite excited to get another scan tho!
We didn't want to know the sex, and I told her that at the start. At one point I thought she said "he" too, but I don't think they make those kind of mistakes - not if you've said you don't want to know (hope not anyway!)
Anyway, good luck everyone else with your scans :)
crackers nice to see you back!

Xxxx

Cewafwb · 04/01/2012 08:07

Sorry its been a while, been away etc. Have read and now caught up! Had 20 week scan on 28th Dec, booked by Midwife but was then told that because I was 18+6 it was too early and I had to come again between 19 and 21 as they have to legally scan me then! Yay for me - I get two scans! First one was brilliant, got a full hand shot, its so lovely to see. No sex, don't want to know, but after four of these things I should be able to work it out - I have a pretty good idea, but trying not think about it. All good otherwise and off to have the next one on Friday. Good luck to others this week.

BlueCrane · 04/01/2012 08:55

Monring all...so good to read good scan news!!

crackers welcome back! So glad the redundancy has worked out ok and house move gone well too...happy shopping!

I have also been shopping, though mainly nursery stuff so far though I have ordered a couple of Christmas babygrows in the Next sale in 6-9m size so will see what they are like So far we have been given a practically new moses basket and stand, put a deposit down on a pram/travel system, bought the car seat (v v good offer), chosen which cotbed and changing table we want though not ordered it yet, bought curtains, cot bumper, cot toy arch (in sale) and a few other decorative bits...once I get the room sorted (love interior design!!) then I'll move onto things like, err, clothes and other such essentials, yes, that would be a good idea!! Smile When my DSM came to visit the other week asking about which knitting patterns I like etc I realised I have NO clue about how many of everything I need, but plenty of time to figure that out!!

VeronicaSpeedwell · 04/01/2012 09:50

Oh wow BlueCrane you sound very sorted! We have nothing! We are both waiting to get the scan over, but I'm looking forward to starting then. There seems to be nowhere decent to look at prams round here, so that will be a mission. We'll also need a different car, ideally Confused.

A quick boob question - are you ladies sleeping in bras? I'm not, but I'm a but uncomfy at night. Maybe a support vest would do the job?

BlueCrane · 04/01/2012 12:35

veronica TBH I've picked bits up as I've seen them, so had been vaguely looking for curtains and then came across some in the sale that would be perfect etc etc We found our pram online and then went to look at it, neither of us can be bothered trailign around umpteen different shops so we've decided to stick with our first choice - the choice is rather bewildering though! Re. sleeping I seem to be getting less comfortable in the boob department at night, think you can get sleep bras which are supposed to be good...and especially good for when nursing, though I suspect we'll all have grown again by then so unfortunately if we were to buy now then we'd probably have to buy more by then!

AlexTasha · 04/01/2012 12:44

I have all the stuff I want sorted in a list and will start buying about a month before my due date I think. I have already bought loads of clothes though, I have a slight baby clothes addiction. Got heaps of 0-3 month and 3-6 month.
I am going to buy the Uppababy Vista as my pram/pushchair, heard lots of great reviews and apparently it is really good for tall people, was initially going to get the ICandy peach, but the wheat colour of the Uppababy won me over. So nice!

veronica I got a maternity/nursing sleep bra from Mothercare. Comes in a 2 pack set for £24 and they are just like a sports bra and are sooo comfy to sleep in, I highly recommend!

Dozeyland · 04/01/2012 13:40

I second those maternity bras AlexTasha

Rugbylovingmum · 04/01/2012 13:56

Wow blue, you are very organised! I don't really need much this time around, just a new mattress for the moses basket. We have bags of barely worn baby clothes from DD and my nieces as they grow out of everything so fast. I'm going to use the Britax pushchair I had for DD for the first few months with the carrycot bit on then when the baby outgrows it I'm going to invest in a new maclaren as the Britax is a bit bulky.

We have been buying lots of new bits for DD instead. We'd like to move her from her cot to a bed soon so we can use the cot for the new baby without DD feeling pushed out and we are also going to move DD into our spare room as it is bigger so the DCs can share once DC2 is sleeping well (we have a big playroom downstairs so I think they'll be fine to share a bedroom and that means we can still have a spare room for visitors). We've bought a new bed, Peppa Pig bedding, posters and a Peppa Pig bookcase for her new room to hopefully make it exciting for her so we just need to slap on some paint and put on a stairgate.

Re sleeping - I haven't needed anything this time but with DD I had a couple of very fitted support vests for bed. I found that more comfortable than wearing a bra all day and night.

Alex - the uppababy vista looks really good

Dozeyland · 04/01/2012 14:17

Do you think I need a new mattress for the moses basket seeing as DD wasnt born long ago,and also didnt sleep in there a lot as she co-slept a lot then went to cot.....

I am thinking about getting a Britax dual, but its like 600.00... I already have a silvercross travel system that mum brought us (nearly new) a I had a M&P sola which i am still using for DD1......she's still not 100% with her walking right now so easier for me to push than carry when out & about....

Just not sure if its worth getting ANOTHER pushchair... I could always carry baby in the carrier and push DD1 if needed(nap or something) otherwise I could just push baby in pushchair?

HELP!

Other things i'm fine with... mostly got white/cream/lemon with DD anywa as we didnt know gender. If this one is a girl - she will have lots from DD hardly worn! and if its a boy then he will get spoiled by the huge family members!x

BlueCrane · 04/01/2012 14:38

We've gone for the M&P Zoom pushchair as I really wanted the carrycot attachment. I've also been wondering whether we should get a new mattress for the moses basket we've been given...my friend's two DD's were big babies and were each only in it for a couple of weeks before they had to move into their cot so it really hasn't had much use...then again if I plan to use it for this DC and DC2 (when we get to that point!) then maybe a new mattress which will do for both of them would be a good idea! In my super organisation (and because I've been stuck at home waiting for a washing machine engineer to come out) I must confess to ordering our cotbed, mattress and changing table this morning Blush we'd already decided which one we wanted and it was in the sale and then I was emailed a 10% off voucher for the store which had to be used this week so thought I'd just do it! Argh! Now the spare room is going to be full of boxes!! Thankfully we don't need to pick the pram up until April!!

Just felt LO give me a good kick...very strange to feel that whilst sat at my desk Smile

Rugbylovingmum · 04/01/2012 14:50

Dozey - I know the recommendation is a new mattress for each baby but I don't think I'd worry about it if it wasn't used much and it hasn't been sitting anywhere damp or dusty. I don't think DB got a new mattress when he borrowed the moses basket for my niece but it has been sitting in a dusty loft since then so I thought I might as well buy a new one.

I'm still not sure what to do about a pushchair either - I was hoping to get away with the Britax at first but we'll be limited to places DD can walk or I'll have to drive. She is a good walker but she'll only be 2.7 when the baby arrives so she still gets tired after a while. I'd imagined that she could walk and then when she gets tired I could put baby in sling/carrier and DD in the pushchair but I've just realised that won't work if I have the carrycot bit on - doh! Maybe I'll get the maclaren in May then we can use that for longer trips (with DC2 in the carrier) and the Britax (with DD walking) for shorter trips Confused. We have a back carrier for DD too so trips at the weekend with DP aren't a problem, it's just during the week. I don't fancy a double buggy as DD prefers to walk as much as she can but handling her + a big buggy would be a nightmare.

Rugbylovingmum · 04/01/2012 14:53

x-posted blue but hurray for baby shopping Grin. My LO is also very squirmy today and I've had quite a few nudges and kicks. Shame she wasn't this active during the scan - she would have made the sonographers life much easier.

Angelyaz · 04/01/2012 19:24

Hi all,
Now that I am actually pregnant, I can admit to the fact that I have been collecting stuff for this littl'un for well over a year! I have everything, and probably more, that I need! Oh, except for nappies - I am going to give cloth nappies a go, despite the hoards of parents who keep trying to deter me!! It has been so exciting collecting it all (some new, some 2ndhand, lots donated from very generous friends), and has really helped to keep the costs down, although I tend to be research girl and had got my list down to the essentials and make-life-easier items, rather than the proven to be useless things like bottle warmers for the car! So I wholeheartedly encourage all of you lovely ladies to throw yourselves into the shopping process - after all, it's not like we're buying for ourselves is it?!?

Ooh quick question to ask - anybody else going through or gone through a 19week growth spurt? For the last 3 days I have been up at 2am absolutely starving, and have had to venture from my lovely warm (although occasionally sopping wet from the nightsweats) bed to the kitchen to raid the cupboards! Thank god for hot milk and cereal!

Dozeyland · 04/01/2012 20:23

Rugby I know its difficult isn't it? I mean DD will only be 19months when DC is born, so still pretty dinky, and she has started getting confident with the walking lately but still crawls, but i imagine that by May she will be wanting to walk a lot. and me too dont like the idea of handling a toddler walking and big pushchair.

I also have my carrier which is suitable for baby and for back carry for DD, so when we go on our country walks, she could always go on that with Daddy unless they're exploring together, or I could carry baby, and DP could carry DD?

I just can't see much point spending a fortune on a double when I already have 2 perfect pushchairs.... i'll think about it.

and the mattress, has only been in the loft since sept time, and if i remember rightly its a thin plastic one from john lewis. but I might just get another, depends really....

I think the only other thing i really need to top up on is white vests, as DD's weaning has destroyed some!

ALSO DP update: still no definite on open prison move, BUT he is definitely coming home on the 20th May, one day before we're due! lets hope baby waits for a few days!

AlexTasha · 04/01/2012 21:09

dozey yay about your DP that is such fantastic news!!!

alwaysanauntie · 05/01/2012 08:47

Dozey what a relief that must be for you, hope your visit goes well today & u get good news for your DP's move to an open prison x

Had my 20 week scan yesterday, was a bit rushed as they were running over an hour late at the hospital! Still my little girl :o was cooperating & it seems all is good although she's on the smaller side of average (maybe not a bad thing for giving birth!). Sadly DH missed it all again but did get quite a good pick of her face to show him.

Anyway, now that the irrational worry of thinking something might be wrong is out of the way, i'm going to start hunting more seriously for nursery stuff (and cute girl's clothes!) as I didn't want to tempt fate before, plus am hoping to spread the cost over the next few months.

Hope everyone else is doing well, lovely to hear all the positive scan stories :)

Na7asha · 05/01/2012 14:13

Angelya - I think it's so cute you've been collecting baby stuff. I've tried not to yet because I have no idea what I need and I dont want to jinx anything.

But, your list of must haves and make life easier... would you share? It would really help me as motherscare terrifies me.

Really good to hear the scans are going well. Mine is tomorrow and am sooooo excited. We want to know the sex so I hope they can tell.

Glad to hear of some growth spurt - I feel enormous. have a most definate bump and everyone can tell I'm pg. Am worried I'm too big, can that be?

Felt my first movements on new years day - just bubbles really. But, 3 days ago a couple of prods. Then last night it felt like it was wriggling all over the place. Had a few pokes and rumbles and weird tenderness that I think are baby moving. Is all very exciting :)

Good luck everyone x

Angelyaz · 05/01/2012 19:24

Hi all,

dozey brilliant news on your dp's release date. Not sure if you know but if a release date falls on a Sat or Sun, you get released the Friday before, so your DP should be released on 18th May, not 20th - however, if it's release on parole, it'll be the Monday after. Not sure which applies but thought you might want a bit of advance warning.

Na7asha I'll gladly post what I've researched to be the must have/don't bother with items. It'll be interesting to see what the 2nd+ time around mums think too. When I get home I shall post my list.

Great news on all the scans, congrats alwaysanauntie on your little girl! I totally get your username - I have 14 nieces and nephews and 20 great nieces and great nephews, with another 2 due this year!

I continue to exist in 2 states, either starving or stuffed, but am trying not to snack too much, or at least snack healthily. To those in the know I look pregnant, but to everyone else I look like I ate the whole Xmas turkey! And you can bet they'll be too polite to ask if I am pregnant, just in case it is all fat!! I've just found out today that a friend who lives in the next town is also pregnant and due mid July, so I'll have a mat leave buddy - yay! :o
Sending happy and healthy vibes to all xxx
