Hi everyone, I'm just popping over from the freak out room to ask a question and would be grateful if anyone at about 31 weeks or over can advise me on this:

My DH has suggested we go to a restaurant for new years eve that is an hours drive away (and obviously I'd be driving!!), if all goes to plan I will be 31 weeks on NYE and we will be staying past midnight to see in the new year....is this doable? It is an expensive restaurant so would not want to pay the money for us to have to leave at half nine!

I'm 13 weeks at the mo and very tired (just started on iron tabs) and went to a wedding on Sat that was a 50 minute drive away and although I was knackered the next day, I was ok driving home? I suppose I'm just concerned I'll be too tired for the drive??

Any advice gratefully received!

Velvetcu · 01/09/2011 10:28

Yes shell definitely doable - as you can see on here, you won't be able to sleep anyway so you may as well go out! Grin seriously though, I went out on Friday afternoon and ended up staying out til 1am. Was knackered on sat but it didn't matter.

Fab scan news hairy
dachs you are entitled to feel the way you are.

Will catch up with everyone else when I'm not on my phone!

cep I don't much like dh at the moment either!

cep · 01/09/2011 12:07

afternoon ladies.

i am knackered had a pants night sleep, and ds woke up coughing and crying, so spent ages listening out for him rather than getting to sleep.

oh i made the mistake of watching the children of 9/11 on demand 5 yesterday silly silly me, spent most of it crying.

shell yes i think so, don't forget you're only just getting out of the first trimester knackeredness. i would rest the day before and make sure you'll be able to rest the day after but yes definately go, may be the last time in a while you get to go to an expensive restaurant. I'm 30 weeks, almost 31 and although i'd be tired i'd be ok to stay up that late.

velvet and lara shall we set up a "dh is a dick" thread.

How did the fight go? sorry i can't remember who's dh it is. lara's i think but wouldn't bet on it.

harassedandherbug · 01/09/2011 12:22

Hello ladies,

Sorry I've been awol, have had some time off and tbh just haven't stopped! 5 year olds are very demanding...... Yesterday she was telling me that she wanted to go out and do something "good and fun"! Such a madam, we've spent a fortune doing stuff with her.

blackkat sending you all lots of good luck wishes. Both my Dad and sister have had cancer.

hairy great news!!! Very Grin for you lovely.

dachs I think you're more than entittled to feel like that! I sobbed when I got this bfp. Through fear rather than happiness, was down for a long time.

bigmac we're def going for a 2nd hand Cam. If people stop messing me about!! Found a lovely one not too far away, practically brand new ( I did wonder if it was Daisy actually as the lady had 7 prams!). But she messed around, messaged me, ignored offers..... Looking for another one now!

lara glad NCT was good. A couple of my yoga ladies go and the husbands all go to the pub together afterwards.....

For those of you suffering with pgp/spd, I bought a Serola support belt and it's just wonderful! Instant relief. Can't recommend it enough.

Has anyone looked at changing bags?? I was looking at Miracle Bags, but just can't make my mind up......

shellshock7 · 01/09/2011 12:35

Thanks velvet and cep you've put my mind at ease...DH just needs to persuade me to part with the cash now Wink

Hopefully I'll be joining you guys full time soon Smile

bigmacandhappymeal · 01/09/2011 13:27

oo harassed you might have planted the cam seed for me again...

Velvetcu · 01/09/2011 15:37

ok so I need some advice to stop me freaking out!

just been for 32 week midwife appointment and she is sending me for a growth scan because I'm 3cm too small. I have been a couple of cm small since they started measuring me and I grow at around 2 cm every 3 weeks which I know is a little slow. mw said its unlikely to be anything to worry about because I'm tall and miniV has head and shoulders very low in my pelvis which would both make me smaller than average (but not the baby IYSWIM) but I'm stressing big time!! She said foetal movement and hb are much better indicators of health than fundal height but that isn't helping.

mw said my scan appointment could take up to 2 weeks to come through (so obviously not urgent) but DH said we can go private tomorrow afternoon if I want. I just dont know if I can justify spending £130 just to stop me mentalling for 2 weeks. :( :(

OrangeGloss · 01/09/2011 15:58

Sorry for not catching up, baby Huw was born this morning after a very quick labour meaning he wasn't ready and distressed so needed an emergency CS. We're both doing well and I couldn't be happier

He even managed to wait an hour into 1st September to start contractions so he gets to be the oldest in the year, and I get a sapphire :)

Not exactly how I would have planned but am just very glad he's healthy.

Thank you all lovely ladies who helped to see me through what started as a rocky journey, I cannot express how much I value the support your all given me xxx

Oh, and we opened the envelope after his birth, the sonographer was right in saying boy Grin

bigmacandhappymeal · 01/09/2011 15:59

Hi velvet - no experiential advice to offer as I'm only 27 weeks and some change at the moment so haven't even been measured yet but wanted to get back to you. Here's my 2 cents.

From your message I am reading that she is telling you 1) you've got a good HB 2) plenty of movement and that this is her key marker for health. Sounds as though the scan is precautionary rather than an urgent need to check things out otherwise you'd be in there quicker than a quick thing.

My rational head says that all is fine and that I would relax and wait for the scan. Your appt could be a lot earlier than 2 weeks in which case you could blow £130.

BUT you are clearly stressed. We've all been through differing degrees of loss, worry, mentalism and that's why we're on this board. In the scheme of things £130 could be seen as bugger all when your mental wellbeing (not implying you are going mental!) is at stake. so, my PG head says get the scan done privately. That would hopefully give you the outcome you want quickly so that you can relax and get on with being PG.

I don't know if this helps at all - I really hope it does.

Also here is a ((hug))

BTW, i'm also tall - 5'11" ish with (as I have been reliably informed at smear tests in the past as someone rummages around in my nethers) a big pelvis Blush . I had been wondering if I would experience something similar as I think I could hide quite a lot of bean.

PinkFondantFancy · 01/09/2011 16:00

velvet which way around is your baby? At my MW appointment a couple of weeks ago I was suddenly measuring 3cm too small, when I had been measuring spot on up until then. Luckily I'd had a growth scan a couple of days before anyway (because I've been on Clexane) so the MW already knew that the baby was fine for size. She said that the difference in size was because it had previously had its spine against my stomach but had shifted round to have its spine against mine. The baby had shifted around again today so that its spine is against my stomach and the measurements are back up to where they should be again. If you are stressing I think it's worth the £130 - you don't need the extra stress.

harrassed I am planning on using the free Boots changing bag Blush

shell do you have to pay in advance for the meal? It's just that while I think it's definitely doable, I find that it varies a lot from day to day whether I'd be up for it. Also, my nausea started to come back a bit around 30 weeks - nothing like 1st trimester but enough to be off food again for a while.

blackkat and harrassed so sorry to hear about your dads, really hoping for good news soon.

lara your NCT sounds fab. I was hoping it would cover impact on relationships etc. but sadly mine didn't. Yours also sounds very long with so many sessions which is great - I felt that mine was a bit rushed.

daisy I love the idea of the sheepdog also being enlisted to look after you!

I am in a world of homebirth indecision. This morning I decided I was definitely going to have one. Then I read some grim threads on MN and it has put me off again. Arghghghghghg.

I am also feeling indecisive about whether to have another nap. I have just eaten an entire bag of Giant Buttons which were fab but I now feel sick as well as knackered.

bigmacandhappymeal · 01/09/2011 16:01

O O O orange Congratulations!!!! On the sapphire and the arrival of Huw Wink Although not to plan, hurrah that all is well. Absolutely brilliant news. Grin

Am I right in thinking that when you have a CS you also get a mummy tuck on the NHS?

OP posts:
PinkFondantFancy · 01/09/2011 16:03

Grin Grin Grin for Orange and baby Huw, very very happy for you lovely lady!!! Out of interest/ morbid curiosity, did they/could they tell you why he was distressed? Hope you are enjoying your snuggles

Velvetcu · 01/09/2011 16:50

Yay orange congrats Grin Grin and a sapphire too how lucky is that!

sunchild77 · 01/09/2011 16:53

Wow Orange ! Welcome Baby Huw :) Huge congratulations. Enjoy all the lovely newborn snuggling!!

Freezingmyarseoff · 01/09/2011 17:16

Just a quick post as I have to dash out to pick up DD.
Big congratulations to Orange, sorry it didn't go quite as planned but glad you are both okay and healthy. Very good timing for school, and that means you get a whole extra year of having him at home Grin

Sunchild I meant to say good news on your scan a couple of days ago.

Hairy also great news on your 20 week scan Grin

Daisy hope you are not going mad resting up. Love the sheepdog MW!

Will try and catch up properly in next few days but waves to all.
x

cep · 01/09/2011 18:43

congratulations orange yay for making it till Sept. Glad he arrived ok.

milkyways · 01/09/2011 18:56

Hi all - this is lovely - Everytime I come in here someone has had a baby! A big big congratulations orange!!

blackkat Thinking of you and your family x Hope your Dad is okay.

Congratulations to hairy on the 20 week scan!

I've started getting niggly pregnancy symptoms such as mild SPD, sciatica nerve pain and the mother of all things bad: Indigestion with acid reflux :(. I've found that eating plums makes it worse, so no more plums for me!

Also woke up a few nights ago at 4am in a panic that I couldn't feel him kick, so ran downstairs with the doppler and listened in and thankfully there he was happily, heart beating away and swinging about - I just couldn't feel it!

I've bought 3 pairs of clothes for my little man now. A pair of cute dungarees and little dinosaur shirts from Pumpkin Patch and some rompers from M&S. I've started hanging them in the wardrobe to make it real. Also took out DD's old snowsuit, and washed it.
Question: Do you think it matters if I make him wear a camel coloured snowsuit that has pink flowery embroidery? DD only wore it for 4 months, and it's brand new. I don't think there is a problem with boys wearing girl clothes is there?....what do you all think? Wow, never for one minute imagined I would be asking that question back in April!!

Okay, I've hogged quite alot of space there. Will make a better job of catching up with everyone from now on!

Waves at everyone!!

UrbanLolly · 01/09/2011 21:42

GrinGrin welcome baby Huw GrinGrin
Congratulations to orange and dh.... Enjoy all those new born snuggles Wink
xoxoxo

Wombat33 · 01/09/2011 23:04

Huge congratulations to Orange on the arrival of Huw!!! Grin Grin

Daisy so sorry you had such a scare but glad everything seems okay with Daisybean and glad you are resting up.

Dachs I cannot begin to imagine how you must be feeling at the moment, but however it is, you are more than entitled to and shouldn't beat yourself up about it. good luck for your 6 weeks scan!

Smile at the diamond earrings & other gifts being purchased!

Re names - I can't remember who queried using a friend's/bro's name - I think it's all fair game. No one 'owns' a name, but it may help smooth family/friend relations to let people know first (but no need to ask 'permission' in my mind).

Blush @ another hopeless catch up but I'm exhausted and off to bed. Get blood results for possible obstetric cholestasis tomorrow. FX all's well.

Purpletoes · 01/09/2011 23:12

Quick de lurk to say congratulations orange enjoy all those cuddles with baby Huw

OrangeGloss · 02/09/2011 07:08

Thanks everyone :) just a quick one to reply to Pink that he was distressed because the placenta was detaching and causing the bleeding, and I was fully dialated but he wasn't anywhere near ready for me to push - I think I dialated too quickly and he couldn't catch up

Velvet I'd have the private scan, you can't put a price on peace of mind x

Blackkat · 02/09/2011 09:24

Quick post to say Congratulations to Orange on the safe arrival of Huw - what an adorable name. Hope you are all well and enjoying getting to know each other Smile Grin Smile xx

Proper catch up later....

harassedandherbug · 02/09/2011 09:47

Congratulations Orange on the birth of Huw!! Lovely name. Enjoy your special time together x

milky sorry about your scare, horrid isn't it?! My placenta is anterior and that masks the movements occasionally. Re: the snow suit, it wouldn't bother me but would dh. Men!! Could you maybe sew a little patch on it if it bothers you?? I've got tonnes of pink clothes to get rid of..... was convinced it was a girl. First time I've been wrong!

velvet sorry you're worrying! I'd take the private scan tbh, I don't think all the mentalling is worth it. Btw, I know someone who was 4cm under "normal" size through most of her 3rd trimester and she just had a petite little girl. I think she 6.5lbs at birth.

No news here.... pelvis and hips are killing me, but off to the physio today and took delivery of my Serola belt this week so hoping all this is going to help ward off the dreaded spd long enough for my home birth.

Was talking to a friend about nursing bras and she recommends Hot Milk. I had a google and they're lovely and quite reasonable too.

CollieandPup · 02/09/2011 10:29

Morning everyone.

Firstly WHOOP WHOOP for Orange and the arrival of little baby Huw (lovely name btw). Glad to hear you are both doing well. Grin @ him hanging on for September. Being the oldest in the class is going to rock! And YAY for Sapphire! Hope you are enjoying lots of lovely snuggles!

Velvet have you decided what to do yet? How do you feel now you have slept on it? To be controversial, in all honesty I don?t think I?d go for a private scan. The method of measuring fundal height is so unreliable, and I recall people on here have dropped a cm or so in the space of a week, and it can all be about the position of the baby. I have known a couple of friends to measure small, and my colleague is also currently measuring 2cm small now at 28 wks. But no one seems concerned. She?s given you reasonable reasons for the gap in size and she has reassured you that movement and hb are more reliable indicators that all is ok, and both of which are fine. I think if she was concerned she would have gotten you a more urgent appointment. If I were you I would monitor movement closely just in case and wait for the referral. It might not even be as long as 2 weeks. If it is, I?d ask for another check up next week with the mw just for extra reassurance. MiniV is probably just a little baby ? surely a 6lb baby is not going to measure the same as a 9lb one, but both are considered healthy and normal. BUT, if you really are worried and stressing then get the scan, bcs a stressed mummy is no good for the little thing.

bigmac pup could very well have been all curled up in my pelvis last night as every time I moved I felt desperate for a wee, but when I went and I?d be lucky to even have a trickle!!! Smile

cep eek did that link have the price on?? Blush sorry!! The expensive ring is actually the same price as that one, but we think we have found somewhere selling this one with 1/3 off. They are in Leeds so will be checking on Saturday! Its my Birthday in Nov to so its also my birthday gift.

Smile at Irenes nesting. I love that the nursery mums are being so nice and have offered lots of things. That?s lovely!

Pink there are some nights I am definitely nocturnal!! Since I?ve been away my sleeping habits have slipped again and I?m just really restless. I am also REALLY HOT!!!! We have the window open every night and I wake up with the duvet flung off me and I am still roasting, while DH is lying next to me quivering!!!!

Lara your report back on your NCT class was very reassuring. Glad it went ok and DH found it fine too. Mine start on Weds night. I wish mine were as spead out as yours. Mine are actually over within the week. But we have a FULL DAY session a week on Saturday!! I can really think of better ways to --waste?spend a Saturday!

Daisy totally understand that you would not want to travel all the way over to Leeds. Although you will be missed. Grin at thought of dog watching over you, keeping you barricaded in and stuck to your sofa!

harassed I bought a cute bag from a tiny boutique shop in cornwall for £65. Its not a changing bag, but having looked at most changing bag they are just big room bags with a rolled up changing mat and a couple of bottle warmers. I got bottle warmers free with my steriliser and I?ll just bag a travel changing mat. That way, I can use it after I?m done needed a changing bag --if its not too full of poo and sick by then?

How was DH?s fight btw?

Pink I can?t help on your HB decision dilemma I?m afraid. I too and still totally undecided and I?m hoping the NCT and NHS Ante Natal classes will help us come to a decision. Part of me really wants to opt for home, but part of me is very scared about taking that choice on my first birth. Also DH is really not sold and is utterly petrified at the thought.

3d scan was just lovely. Little pup was wriggling, but also very sleepy and camera shy ? kept covering his face with his hand!! We got a good look though and the DVDs are great. I?m going to try and put a pic on my profile over the weekend. I think I actually appreciate it more now than when I was in there (we have a DVD of everything we saw) as it was very surreal in there! Pup is definitely a boy?.she took a picture to prove it!! Grin. Its just amazing what you can see and how clear it is in comparison to the 20wk 2d scans. He?s all good for size too, although a little on the big size
