LaraandLittleBean · 17/08/2011 21:04

Delighted to see more ladies joining this thread! It makes me so happy to see our pregnancies progressing!

Had the day from hell today - my GTT test... It was like being in the Jeremy Kyle green room. I arrived at 8am for the first blood test (witch couldn't find my vein) after which I joined a load of vicky pollard-like chavs all downing copious amounts of lucozade. After drinking my lot, I was then told to "sit and relax" (WTF) in the waiting room for TWO painful hours before my final blood test. Due to not being able to find aforementioned vein, she massacred the same vein twice. It hurt. Next one will be the anti-D jab - Pink - didn't you have it today? How was it? Mine is in two weeks time.

Awww Daisy.... My DH has said all along he won't be fully intimate as he is petrified of something happening to the pg (after previous MCs). However, on a number of occasions I have suggested "all sorts of other things" we could do to be intimate but without going, erm "all the way". I can confirm we've done absolutely nothing even remotely intimate which leads me to believe there's more to it and he's put off me in some way. He's forever telling me / everyone we know how good I look pregnant and how attractive he finds me but the fact remains, we've not been "close" in any way. It actually pisses the hell out of me as I have been feeling extremely "physical" (sorry - can't bring myself to use any of the other words, especially as I am going to be meeting FOUR of you on Sunday!) I do think it's really important for the well being of our relationship, particularly as after little one is born, God knows how long it'll take before we revive that part of our relationship.

Enough of my rant....

Re. the antenatal threads, I read the relevant one regularly but have never posted. I just haven't bonded with the other ladies and feel it's too late. It's great to see what they're up to and get a less neurotic / fearful view of pregnancy (!). I confess I am a stalker rather than a poster.

Lots of my stuff arrived for the nursery - a big Amazon box containing the following items from the Kids Line Zanzibar range: a cot mobile, cotbed quilt (decorative), animal appliques for the wall, two cushions for the rocking chair and three wall pictures. The furniture will be white (Orchard range from M&Ps) and the colour scheme for the room is generally cream, a pale green and beige. DH thinks I've gone a bit jungle-mad as I even found some fab curtain ties for the cream and beige curtains that totally match the other stuff - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Baby-Nursery-naugthy-play-monkey-curtain-tie-backs-2-/250852463360. I am also waiting for this rug to arrive - www.abbey-carpets.co.uk/product.php/2917/childrens-nursery-cheeky-monkey-rug. I may have gone extremely slightly OTT but I just couldn't resist it.... Yes, it is more for me than our little one who won't have a clue or care for many, many months.

Further to our list of unattractive pregnancy symptoms, I have some weird positive ones to post! 1) I used to have to wash my hair every day - I now don't (every 2 or even 3 days is fine) and 2) I now go to the toilet every day (after having horrendous constipation for years) -

Speaking of the Sunday London meet, I can't wait... BigMac suggested we have five minutes of decorum before we launch into uncensored conversation about fanjos and bumhold hair but I bet we'll all be quite conservative in the flesh. Collie - a tip for your northern meet - you might want to consider name badges (not necessarily to wear, can be placed on table!) I just figured that five of us at ours means ten names (online plus RL).

Yikes - have written a thesis... sorry All

LaraandLittleBean · 17/08/2011 21:06

Bollox, bollox, bollox - x-post with Lia66. I feel awful... Terrible news. I am so sorry that my post sounds so terribly trivial next to your heartbreaking news, Lia. I didn't know Magic but please pass on my condolences. Am so sorry. Words escape me....

Lara as pink says, you weren't to know, don't be silly!

Lia good idea and Pink Hope you don't mind I went ahead and did the list.

Hope everyone else is well. I'm sitting on edge of seat cause its the only comfortable position to be in hoping for news any day now from Owl c'mon baby Booty Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 17/08/2011 22:58

mamap thanks v much for doing the list, the wording is lovely.

Lara the anti-d was absolutely fine, nothing at all to worry about. It's really important to keep your muscle relaxed when the needle goes in and they are injecting though, definitely hurts less that way.

lia66 · 17/08/2011 23:14

lurking for owl news also

ladies don't worry,

thanks mama lovely words. :) :(

Freezingmyarseoff · 17/08/2011 23:29

Mama and Lia very thoughtful of you both to amend the list to remember Magic8s, I never met her but feeling very Sad today as she was such kind, thoughtful and happy MNer. I will also post on the thread in chat.

Freezingmyarseoff · 17/08/2011 23:37

Umm, also I just wanted to say I had my 20 week scan today and all was amazingly normal and unremarkable (in a good sort of way) so I am officially delurking for good Smile Looking forward to some very unglamorous pregnancy chat (although typically I'm now away for the next 5 days so will put myself on the list and catch up properly next week).

Grin for Hairy, it's brilliant feeling the kicks isn't it

Waves to all

UrbanLolly · 17/08/2011 23:44

Been lurking for owl news hope you are doing ok.....

But so shocked and saddened to hear that magic has passed leaving her girls....I didn't really know her except for lurking just after my bfp. Loved her posts detailing her ever growing bump with the spiderbabies.... May she rest in peace xxx

Purpletoes · 18/08/2011 07:11

Just a quick de lurk. 15 weeks now but no bump yet! Although jeans no longer need belt to stay up! Blush

Nice to hear all the positive scan experiences mine seems ages away as hospital does it at 22 weeks although they also have a standard scan at 32 as well!

Hope owlet makes an appearance soon.

So sad to hear about magic I didn't know her but seems to have touched alot of lives.

Hope to see you all soon.

bigmacandhappymeal · 18/08/2011 08:44

Very sad news to read this morning about magic. My heart goes out to her family.

OP posts:
bigmacandhappymeal · 18/08/2011 08:50

Freezing - hurrah on your 20wk scan! Fabulous news - have a great break and look forward to seeing you here soon.

Lara all is not well in camp Bigmac on the DTD front either. I'd be fine not actually going all the way but even that seems off the cards too. MrBigMac says all the same things as MrLara but doesn't seem to initiate even though he good humourledly jokes about our lack of action - which in turn upsets me but it's his way of trying to communicate I think. Hmmmmm.

My best positive preggers experience is not having to worry about holding my belly in at all, ever. Relief after about 20 years of being conscious of my tummy, keeping Spanx afloat and generally bemoaning my lot.

Hi purple - hopefully the next few weeks will fly by for you. 22 weeks... that's torture!

OP posts:
Daisybell1 · 18/08/2011 08:58

I didn't know Magic but can't stop thinking about her family this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with them all

dooscooby · 18/08/2011 10:43

really sorry to hear about magic - i didn't know her either but am very sad to hear of her passing and my heart goes out to her family.

purple - welcome over here, good to see you. 22 wks is a long time to wait isn't it - congrats on getting to 15 though, hope you're feeling blooming? My bump didn't really pop until 18 wks, now it's feeling very high and making me short of breath.

freezing - great news on the scan -have a great break.

For anyone that's interested, I often listen to the Womans Hour podcast when I wake up in the middle of the night. Last night was a bad night as the neighbours had a screaming row at 1am so I got through a few episodes (!), but the 12 Aug one had a researcher on talking about a study into threatened mc. I found it quite interesting, they've basically developed a 'prg viability index' to give a better indication to women who are bleeding in early pg whether they are likely to mc or continue with the pg. Apparently 20% of those with threatened mc actually go on to mc and although the index isn't foolproof it gives a better idea which camp you're in. They are also looking at the possibility that those 20% of pgs that do mc after bleeding can be 'rescued' with hormone intake (didn't give anymore details on this). Anyway, it's prob more of interest to ladies in the earlier stages, but just thought I'd let you know as it's good to hear of promising research and the man talking about it did so very sensitively, which was nice.

PinkFondantFancy · 18/08/2011 11:11

scooby this was also the view of the fertility doctor that investigated my MC-he was frustrated that the NHS don't even make an attempt to 'rescue' pregnancies when in his view some might have been saved. Hopefully if more research gets done it won't just be the private clinics that monitor levels and try to preempt potential problems. I like womens hour-downloading the podcast is a fab idea!

bigmacandhappymeal · 18/08/2011 11:34

pink and scoob that's really interesting. If I'm right I think they give hormones to PG ladies with threatened MC (and those who have low HGC levels in v early PG) in the US. I'm sure I read that when i was going through it in December/Jan. I'll have a listen.

OP posts:
PinkFondantFancy · 18/08/2011 11:58

When I first got my BFP, the clinic felt that my progesterone was borderline high enough to sustain the pregnancy so supplemented my levels. They then monitored it weekly until 16 weeks and when it dipped, increased the progesterone supplements further. Who knows whether all of this was just preventative or whether it made a difference but I am very grateful to be this pregnant.

IreneHeron · 18/08/2011 12:33

Lara if it makes you feel any better, we have done it a grand total of once since I got pg! I think he's scared of me, I look like a massive egg with legs and tits. He's also always saying I look beautiful, but he never says sexy. Doesn't bother me that much.

cep · 18/08/2011 15:28

such sad news today, so sorry to magics family and poor children.

irene i'm the same we've dtd once.

i'm feeling so uncomfortable lately, between spd aches and pains and full tummy aches. Have my scan tomorrow, looking forward to it am hoping baby's not too big already, otherwise i can wave goodbye to my mlu hopes.

Wombat33 · 18/08/2011 16:37

Hello all. Came on for a quick catch up. So sorry to hear the news about Magic Sad

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 18/08/2011 16:54

Sad news about magic I didn't know her but sympathies to her family.

Not enough time for a catch up i'm afraid as have spent the day in hospital. Movements have been reduced the last couple of days and got nothing at all last night/this morning so called up and went in for monitoring. Had to be on the monitor for two bloody hours cuz the trace kept knocking off. Suffice to say baby started kicking as soon as the ecg went ok so all ok.

But am now under consultant care not MW as they decided I needed a scan due to being large. Baby is measuring at 37weeks all over on the head, leg and tummy measurements which is actually off the scale on the centile chart. Baby is also breech, legs extended, bum down, head to side. I have too much fluid too. Normal level is allowed up to 20. I have 23.9. Apparently I'm high risk for premature water breakage and because he is breech that means high risk for cord prolapse. I don't even know what that is? They want me back for rescan in 2 weeks time. Bloods also taken to check for infections in fluid.

So was in hopsital from 11 til 4. Am knackered and starving and now going to google when I shouldn't. Worried and stressed is the diagnosis for the day!

Hope everyone is ok.

Velvetcu · 18/08/2011 19:12

Oh coconuts sorry you have been in hospital. Is it a problem that baby is so big at this stage?

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 18/08/2011 19:21

I don't know if it's a problem. One MW says they'll need to monitor it, another will say it doesn't matter so I'm at aloss with that one. I think it's the fluid that is the main worry, but after some googling and speaking to a MW friend, I am a little reassured that I definitely don't need to worry yet and they are keeping a close eye on things. Been a stressful day though all in all.
