Just found out I'm pregnant with an EDD on May 7th, so though I'ld kick off this thread. I have a DS who was two last week. I am suprised to find myself having very mixed emotions - excitement at the thought of a sibling for DS, but horror at the thought of the pregancy, birth and first few months. Anyone else just found out they're pregnant?

can i join this thread - found out on Saturday that i'm pregnant with an EDD like Azure on 7th May. Suddenly feel much sicker than i did last week !

I'm 33, live in West London (where are you Azure?) and work full time. We've got a ds who will be 3 in November. We're also off on holiday on Saturday with friends, so think the kidney infection idea is a good one, as i'm a notorious old soak normally

GeorginaA · 15/09/2003 14:42

Congratulations vivat!

Azure · 15/09/2003 15:39

vivat - congratulations. We have moved to Stamford Brook / Chiswick (only 2 streets away from a W4 postcode!). Where are you? I'm also starting to feel a little queasy - must get some snacks to keep in the office. I'm already completely fed up with fruit teas, but have found decaff capuccinos to be surprisingly drinkable. My major complaint so far is extreme tiredness, but with a toddler, what's new?

Congratulations Vivat and welcome to the thread.

I just can't get used to the reality that I'm pregnant. I don't feel ill at all, didn't last time either and of course it's to early for any major signs of showing. I find myself walking around work and suddenly it pops into my head oh I'm pregnant I must remember that, incase I'd forgotten maybe? LOL

If it wasn't for the fact that when I woke up this morning I was very very tender in the chest department I'd have thought that the test was wrong.

vivat · 16/09/2003 08:46

Azure - i'm just round the corner in Brackenbury village (great estate agent's term there). Have you discovered Ravenscourt Park yet, it's fab.

Had my first really queasy morning this morning, but good old dh brought me tea and toast in bed, which is something i could definitely get used to.

I'm off to Spain this weekend and wasn't planning to see the doctor first - have collected my form E111, but do you think I should tell someone in this country first?

What a nice thread to join - i've been a lurker for ages

Bozza · 16/09/2003 09:44

Egypt - last period was 10 Aug so my date matches up with yours but unsure really because only just came off the pill and didn't test for ov.

Vivat I'm going to Tenerife on Friday and wasn't planning to see the doctor until I come back. In fact I considered not going at all and contacting m/w direct but DH not impressed - thinks I should do things the traditional way.

Azure · 16/09/2003 11:59

vivat - how nice we're close. My parents took DS to Ravenscourt Park last weekend while DH and I were unpacking - I'm sure we'll be there this weekend. Lucky you and Bozza off on holiday. I went to my doctor last week, and all she did was take my blood pressure and make the referral to the m/ws, so I can't imagine a delay of a week or two would make much difference. If you have any travel insurance, I would check that it covers being pregnant (and whether you have to notify the insurance company). I hope you both have great trips.

Also Vivat have noticed that E111 includes "maternity and sickness insurance". I will double check my travel insurance tonight. And the lady in the post office recommended photocopying E111 and keeping it separate from original form. I suppose if you got your passport stolen and the E111 was with it there might be a problem. Going to copy and keep with traveller's cheque receipts.

twiglett, still twinges for me yes, and sore boobs. not as tired as last week thank god. it knocked me out, i couldnt function! cant believe how early it is either. just desperate to tell all. mums up at w/e so telling them. dont feel can tell anyone else until they know. got docs tomorrow. (went today but was told i was 24 hours early- DUR). Dont really know what to expect. how do they confirm preg? blood test? if so how long til it comes back?

bunny2 · 17/09/2003 20:11

Hi, gatecrashing as the April thread is so quite. Congratulations to all the new mums-to-be here, what a jammy thread!

Egypt, re confirmingthe pg, in all three of my pgs the doctor has taken my word for it, no test or examination of any sort (3 different gps, 2 different practices). I thought I might claim a pg each year to keep my maternity exemption certificate going. On the other hand Egypt, you might have a much more warey gp so best to shower beforehand just in case there's an examination.

Twigs, there are twins on both sides of the family, I'm 37, 5'10", had fertility drugs and live in an area where EVERYONE is a twin (seriously, out of my 5 good mum friends, 3 have twins and one has triplets, there are 2 swets of triplets in the next road). So, I'm on for twins I think. The thought fills me with fear.

Last time my GP gave me a bottle to wee in and hand in to get tested and she wrote to the hospital for my booking appointment. I assume she'll do the same this time, not seeing her until next week as I couldn't get an appointment before then, she's only part time as she has chidlren fo her own.

Azure · 18/09/2003 09:39

My GP just takes my word for it as well, which I found rather strange when I was pregnant for the first time. This time, she took my blood pressure and gave me the number to call the hospital to book in my scan. I should be getting a call from a midwife at some point - last time my first visit was around 11 weeks.

Bozza · 18/09/2003 10:21

My Doc just took my word too which as a bit unexpected. I'm hoping to make an appt to go next Friday when I get back from hols. At least then I have a valid reason for not telling in-laws - ie haven't had it confirmed by doctors.

Egypt · 18/09/2003 19:17

went to docs. he just took my word for it too! strange. got a load of bumf to fill in and read up on. booked appointment with midwife for week on weds. shall only be 7 weeks then, which is early for a midwife visit, but pleaded incase need an early scan as conceived with clomid and am VERY concerned about multiples!
Seeing cons tomorrow who put me on the stuff, so hopefully he'll send me for scan asap. seems real now!

Egypt · 18/09/2003 19:18

hope u have a better nights sleep tonight, twigg. what did the doc say the pains were? how did he reassure you?

Egypt · 18/09/2003 19:20

Oh and........is anyone having vivid dreams? had a horrid horrid dream last night that i passed 2 great big pear shaped plum tomatoes. looked at them and though, 'oh god, thats my uterus' but there were two, so decided i must have miscarried twins. it was horrid. pulled the tomatoes apart and yuk.............sorry everyone. i must be worried or something. sorry, thats disgusting.

prufrock · 19/09/2003 08:29

Haven't had the dream yet Egypt, but I do remeber them from last time. I think my best was one where dd was born, and could speak very clearly and told me not to be worried that the only thing she would eat was chocolate brownies - off my nipples! All of this whilst sitting on a lounger by a pool!

I am being so so sick - I just want to url up into a ball and wake up in 7 months. It's as bad as last time, but started earlier. I HATE HATE HATE being pregnant

Bugzi · 19/09/2003 13:04
