Just found out I'm pregnant with an EDD on May 7th, so though I'ld kick off this thread. I have a DS who was two last week. I am suprised to find myself having very mixed emotions - excitement at the thought of a sibling for DS, but horror at the thought of the pregancy, birth and first few months. Anyone else just found out they're pregnant?

Hi everyone,
Well the Chinese Gender chart got me wrong! It predicts a boy and we know it's a girl! We've got our 20 week scan tomorrow followed by the big cardiac scan - so fingers crossed everything turns out okay.

Glad you are all doing well but I have to say I'm jealous of anyone who is still in their jeans - I've been in maternity trousers for 5 weeks now!!!

Linnet · 22/12/2003 22:26

Good Luck for tomorrow Rhea, let us know how you get on.

libb · 27/12/2003 09:49

Hi everyone,

How was Christmas for everyone? Linnet, was it you who was waiting until Christmas Day to break the news? How did it go?

Rhea, how did your scan go? I hope it all went well and everything is okay dokey! I have to say that I am trying hard not to think about the 2nd Jan but it still gives me the heeby jeebies. I hope it goes okay. The little monkey won't stop wriggling around and DP is griping because it stops as soon he tries to have a feel!

Hope you are all well and not too stuffed!

Much love, Libb xx

Egypt · 27/12/2003 10:56

hi all
hope christmas went well. had an interesting one! had inlaws over for 3 days and fil spent the WHOLE of xmas day in bed with sickness - not my cooking honest! then in the middle of last night, his father died. oh dear.

libb, baby going mad here too, dh cant feel yet either. anyone know when it can be felt by others through the skin??? dying for him to feel it.

waiting impatiently on the 2 jan too.
are you going to find sex? anyone?

libb · 27/12/2003 19:11

Egypt, sory to hear your bad news - please send my regards to your family.

I keep forgetting to take it easy, came home today with a new saucepan set (you really don't want to see the old set!) and am now feeling whacked - were meant to be going to see friends but I'm not so sure now. Besides DP won't get off the PS2!

Now for a personal moment and this may be a bizarre question but does anyone get a twinging feeling in their ovaries (at least I assume they are, feels like the right place)? I only ask because I have also been asked to go for a smear test and am not sure if it is okay, but the pains are telling me that perhaps I should go . . . . I can understand the stretching ligaments etc. but is this the same? Sorry to be a nuisance but this is my first one and it all feels a bit strange!

Take care of yourself, Lots of love,

Libb xxxxxxxxx

Bozza · 30/12/2003 12:20

Egypt sorry to hear that news.

Libb not sure about your connection between ovaries and smear test. Is it normal to have a smear test during pregnancy?

Linnet please post and tell us how it all went? Had anyone guessed?

I too am a 2 Jan scan so I guess we will all be reporting back after that? I am a little concerned that I 've hardly felt the baby move yet. Although it was kicking around fine at the dating scan only six weeks ago. Am trying to dismiss my worries until Friday.

Besides an awful cold/cough which is thankfully getting better (was wondering about how I was going to cope with laying down for scan when I hadn't been to bed for a week) I have got a bizarre rash all down one side of my face.Anyone any ideas what it could be. It completely covers one side of face but other fine. Its raised and red. I haven't used any new products except perfume on neck and wrists (both of which are fine).

prufrock · 30/12/2003 12:56

Egypt - I am sorry about you GFIL - hope your dh is coping OK.

C'mon Linnet - we all want to know what the reaction was. I can't believe you managed to wait - my bump is so obviously noticeable now.

DH felt his first kick last night! This blob doesn't seem to have been as actve as last time, but I do get a few kicks every night when I try to sleep, and DH had his hand there when it happened.

Bozza - at teh back of my mind I can remember hearing about somebody else who developed a wierd facial rash during pregnancy, but can't for the life of me remember details - pretty sure it was nothing to worry about or I would remeber more. But call your midwife just in case.

Bozza · 30/12/2003 14:07

Thanks Prufrock. Its not really troubling me so am a bit unsure about bothering midwife. DH wanted me to cover it up with make-up yesterday. I refused because I thought it could potentially make it worse and we were only going to Ikea and to visit my family.

libb · 30/12/2003 15:31

Bozza,

Hope your rash clears soon, it can be such a pain. I htink I have had more spots whilst bieng preggars that throughout my adolescent years! Fingers crossed, spots and rashes will be the worst thing we have! I am trying hard not to think about the 2nd, I feel quite worried.

The twinges seem to have calmed down a bit - still trying to figure out whether it is a monthly thing - if that makes sense . . . perhaps the smear test "invite" was mail merge type thingy - I haven't had one for a while and have also changed surgeries, my first visit was to confirm being pregnant!

Bozza · 30/12/2003 21:14

Yeah Libb I've had spots in all sorts of odd places. And now we're going down that line I've had a dreadful sweat rash under my boobs - caused by a combination of huge (by my standards) boobs and maternity bra. I have been treating it with sudocrem and its much better. But this is a different sort of rash on my face - sort of like you might get if you fell asleep against something with a raised pattern IYSWIM.

I think I would query the smear test because I would think it was unusual to have one in pregnancy. But I might be wrong. As you say though mistakes do happen - I was once recalled following an abnormal smear by a surgery where I never even had a smear test in the first place.

Linnet · 30/12/2003 23:40

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. Hope you all had/have a good one.

Well we did our big announcement on Christmas day. Gave dd a present and told her it was from a baby brother or sister, haven't told her that it's a girl decided to keep that to ourselves. DD seems to be a bit excited but I'm not sure she really understands it all at the moment. We told my brother and my grandparents, well dd did, told them that she was going to be a big sister. Granny and grandad seemed pleased grandad wants a boy as does my brother but dd wants a girl, lol
Also told Dh's mother, brother and his dad when he was here they are all pleased as well.
My cousin now knows and I saw her on Sunday and she was asking how far along I was when I told her 20 weeks she commented on how I'm not even showing yet, so it looks like I got away with it. My granny was a bit shocked when we said I was due in May but we explained that there had been tests and we wanted to wait until we knew all the results before telling anyone.
When I'm lying in bed I do have a bump but not a very big one. When I'm standing up I think I look a bit fuller round the middle but not obviously pregnant yet. Been trying to get maternity trousers and tops for going back to work next Monday. Tried to order some stuff from the next sale but it had all sold out by the time I go through But have managed to order a couple of other items that will hopefully be here soon. Dare I say it I'm still wearing my jeans but I'll be out of them in a matter of days. During the day they're ok but by evening once I've had dinner I have to sit with them undone as they get a bit tight.
Dd says the funniest things and it makes me wonder what's going through her head. Last night she asked me if she'd have to give the new baby her blankie. I told her that we would go and buy the baby it's own blankie and she seemed to sigh with relief at that answer, poor little soul must have thought she'd have to give all her things to the new baby, lol.
This baby is a real wriggler but every time dh tries to feel it wriggling it stops, lol

Wishing you all a Happy New year and enjoy your scans on January 2nd.

Egypt · 02/01/2004 13:15

Thanks for your condolences all.
Well how have scans gone??!!
All fine this end. All normal for everythings they checked. Baby was head down really low in my pelvis so she had to literally tip me backwards on the bed! What a difference from the 12 week scan though! Amazing. Couldnt get the whole of his/her on the screen. Resisted asking what the sex was and the sonographer didnt ask if we wanted to know - thank goodness! We had decided not to know, but are curious and i think had she asked i may have blurted out yes!
Strange that they did the checks BEFORE dh was allowed in the room. Didnt like this at all. Anyone else experience this?
Hope all is fine with everyone.
Oh and dh has felt baby move a few times now, too.
HAPPY NEW YEAR

libb · 02/01/2004 15:34

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a good new year - I was very good and drove the 40 min journey home so DP could drink. It was my first time behind the wheel in 7 years so felt very proud of myself the next morning! Figners crossed the rest of the year will go on as it has started.

We've just come back from the scan and all is well! Hurrah! I don't think I have felt so nervous since my driving test, like you you Egypt I had to be tipped up as the baby's bottom was too low for a moment. The sonographer didn't say much and I lay there thinking she was trying to find a nice way of telling us bad news, I have too much imagination sometimes. She wasn't going to ask us about the sex so we did instead, its a boy! just as the chinese chart predicted . . .

I am surprised about your DH not being allowed in - I would've had a fit if DP wasn't allowed, even though he doesn't say much I'd have to have him there!

Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to the weekend

Much love, Libb xxx

Bozza · 02/01/2004 21:58

Ours went well too. Although I was busting for the loo but daren't go and they kept us waiting a while. Baby was bottom down. DH allowed in from beginning and didn't ask sex. Head was 17.5 cm. DH asked if that was the circumferance. I replied that I hoped it wasn't the diameter at 20 weeks! Showed DS scan picture and I don't think he believed it was a baby! He saw a picture of himself as a 1 day old in my purse the other day and decided that it was "my baby sister". I don't think he can grasp the concept that he was once a baby.

Unlike Linnet I have suddenly exploded and look properly pregnant now even to strangers.

Egypt · 03/01/2004 11:28

Oh great news you two!
Wow - a boy Linnet that's lovely. Can I ask if they told you now they know? I know it sounds stupid, but my aunt said that they dont actually look at the genitals but the size of the pelvis!!! Seems a bit strange to me as the genitals are surely visible at 20 wks. Did you see them?!

Egypt · 03/01/2004 11:29

Not 'now they know', 'how they know' dur

libb · 03/01/2004 12:02

Umm, I'm having the boy - I think Linnet is having a girl, is that right?

She showed us the genitals. I was really daft and had to stop myself from giggling like a school girl when she named each part, don't ask me why! (feel particularly silly as I'm thirty years old and should know better!)

DP is happy as you can imagine! I really hope that everyone is keeping well and having nice start to the new year. Wasn't it Vivat's birthday yesterday?

GeorginaA · 03/01/2004 12:26

I still haven't got my 20 week scan appointment through (and I'm 20 weeks tomorrow)

Got a midwife's appointment on Monday will talk to her then. They said it was going to be short notice (see previous whinge about them almost deciding not to do the 20 week scans). I'm wondering whether they're just quietly avoiding having to do them...

Doesn't help that I'm feeling in an incredibly grumpy mood for the last couple of days for no discernable reason.

libb · 03/01/2004 16:16

GeorginaA, I remember your hassles from earlier - sounds like they need a good kick up the wotsit! I wouldn't worry too much just yet though, I am 22 weeks today and had the "20" week scan yesterday.

Twiglett, I had a gut feeling that this one would be a boy too and any advice on what to do with them would be gratefully received! It seems strange that I have been so certain of most things regarding this pregnancy, despite the lack of planning - I guess it really was meant to be (touch wood!)

Take care everybody xxx

Egypt · 03/01/2004 18:59

sorry linnet, getting you and libb muddled - l l l l l , think i am going insane.
must go and do some planning for school - how i am going to get through term in one piece i do not know. cant think straight and just set fire to my planning book 10 mins ago. ouch, sore finger

libb · 03/01/2004 20:43

Bless your cotton socks Egypt, I'm Libb - Linnet hasn't posted on here today!

Take care of yourself, I won't ask how you are setting fire to your planning book - I am jealous because I am not organised enough to have one! I had such good intentions this year too, but I can't even find the diary I bought. what a muppet.

I really hope your finger is okay,

Much love, Libb xx

Linnet · 03/01/2004 22:07

Happy New Year to you all. Glad to hear that the 20 week scans went well. Libb congratulations on your boy. I wish they'd shown me on the screen that I was having a girl but Dr G was to busy looking at the baby's heart, which of course was why he was there and we were there for an anomoly scan. And when we asked him he said he'd send us a letter then agreed to phone us. We're not telling any of our friends or family that it's a girl as I've got myself into such a state about whether or not Dr G did actually say girl or not. You're all going to think I'm nuts, but when he phoned he said it's Female (not it's a girl) at least I'm pretty sure he said it's female, lol but now I'm questioning myself on whether or not he did actually say that or if I just imagined it, aagghh, lol I go for a check up with my dr at the surgery in a couple of weeks time and I'm going to ask her if she knows as she got a letter about the amnio results so it might be in that letter. If not I'll see if she can find out for me or if the midwife can double check, I feel so foolish, lol Although I'm pretty sure he did say female, lol

Well, I'm sure you'll be glad to know that I'm starting to explode a little more now. I ordered some maternity trousers from Next and they arrived yesterday and when I put them on I do look pregnant but with a longish top over them I just look fat, lol

Oooh went into town today and bought a cot from a baby shop in town that's having a sale. Unfortunately they don't store sale items so we have to pick it up next week and we're going to store it at my granny's house, can't have it in the house too soon. It's so nice to be able to go into baby shops and look at everything, dd wants to buy everything we see, lol

Back to work on Monday and dd is back at school it's going to be awful trying to get up early as I've been off right through the holidays, not looking forward to the early mornings again.
