Just found out I'm pregnant with an EDD on May 7th, so though I'ld kick off this thread. I have a DS who was two last week. I am suprised to find myself having very mixed emotions - excitement at the thought of a sibling for DS, but horror at the thought of the pregancy, birth and first few months. Anyone else just found out they're pregnant?

Good evening everybody,

Not much news and Christmas is not allowing me to think of the scan on the 2nd - thank goodness!

Has anyone else got a wriggler for a bump? I finally decided to get some maternity clothes although I still have some clothes from my larger days that can still help me out, unfortunately they are mainly casual and my office isn't that open minded!

Hope you are all doing well and coping with the Christmas preparations!

Love, Libb xxx

Sorry Egypt,

Hope you have managed to find the answers you were looking for . . . .

Take care,

Libb xxxx

Libb I have bought some cheap clothes (mainly in Asda sale) a couple of sizes bigger that I have been wearing. Have a few bits from after DS that fit. But not worn maternity stuff really yet. Thought I might buy some stuff in sales.

prufrock · 18/12/2003 14:45

I'm not big enough for maternity stuff yet, but getting too big for my normal waisted trousers and skirts. I did find some really nice jersey trousers at M&S which are smart enough for work/going out, but have elasticated waists so are comfotable on my protobump.

Hello everyone,

Well, I get my 19 week scan tomorrow morning and I'm going to find out what I'm having. I'm excited but scared all at the same time, yet again. Dh says he doesn't mind if he knows or not but I feel I have to know this time I don't think I could stand the suspense again.

Still planning to do the big announcement on Christmas day. And also planning to do some shopping for clothes over the holidays. I'm still managing to fit into my work trousers and 1 pair of jeans but I know that I'll definitely be out of the jeans by New Year if not before. I seem to sort of pop out in the evenings after I've had dinner, during the day you wouldn't even know I was pregnant.

Have you all finished your shopping for christmas yet?

GeorginaA · 18/12/2003 22:26

Linnet - how can you still fit in your jeans! I am so jealous I'm 17 weeks now and have been in proper maternity trousers for the last week (but straining to fit in my 2 sizes too big trousers for a week before that) - I've only got 2 pairs of maternity trousers... I really must buy more because I'm constantly doing washing

libb · 18/12/2003 23:06

Linnet, I am glad that I am not the only one popping out (espeically in the evening)! DP thinks it is highly amusing . . .

I was naughty and bought a pair of trews for our work dinner tomorrow knowing that their shelf life will be very short (until next Chrimbo maybe?) - they are very nice though!

I am learning to fall asleep on my side too - I usually favour my front but on the odd occasion I wake up and am on my front I feel like I am sleeping on a melon and I am sure that little one isn't too impressed either - I guess we'll worrk out a compromise somehow!

Don't even mention shopping to me . . .

libb · 18/12/2003 23:08

Linnet, I have forgotten to wish you all the best for your scan tomorrow, hope it goes really well!

GeorginaA, at least you can show off your bump, I am convinced that I just look chunky!

Linnet · 19/12/2003 21:33

Ok, my latest update.

First of all I'm going to say that the jeans I'm still wearing I bought in the summer holidays and although I bought my size they were always a bit big and baggy for some reason and because of that I've managed to get away with still wearing them. But it will only be a matter of time before I'm out of them.

Now onto the scan. Went along waited ages to be seen as there was a backlog. Finally got to go in and Dr M did the scan. She said that everything looked fine and she had a look at the babies heart and said that it seems the right size, shape, chambers are all there and the valves were going like the clappers, I could see all this on the screen and recognised it from biology lessons many moons ago.
Then Dr G arrived to have a look at the heart. He also said that he thought it all looked fine but there were little white dots on the screen that the dr's refer to as "Golf Balls", very professional, lol and to be on the safe side he is referring me to a hospital in Glasgow for the cardiologists to have a look. He did stress that if they see these white dots they usually recommend an amniocentesis but since I've already had that done and the results were all clear then he's sure that there is nothing to worry about but it's better to get this second opinion now rather than wait until delivery and then maybe have to get the baby moved somewhere else. But he did say that if it was anything it's not anything major so we're not to worried. I don't need to go to the hospital in Glasgow until I'm 28 weeks which will be in February sometime.

I then asked what sex the baby was and Dr G said that it was in my notes but he couldn't remember but he would check and then send us a letter out. I said that I'd rather know today if possible so he said he'd check then phone and let me know. Now my instinct was that I was going to have a boy this time, the chinese calendar prediction (which I did for fun) said it would be a girl. So what did dr G tell me I'm having?....It's a GIRL. Looks like my intuition is useless as I thought my dd was a boy all the way through as well. And the chinese calendar got it's prediction right for me and three of my friends.

GeorginaA · 19/12/2003 21:44

Oooooo a little girl How lovely (Mind you, I'd have said that if it was a boy too - it's just so exciting to actually know, isn't it?) What's that Chinese thing all about?

I'm sorry that it seems like you're in line for another battery of testing, but it does sound like it's just routine rather than anything serious which is good! Reassuring to know they're thorough at least. Do keep us updated on how it goes, won't you?

I haven't had a very good day today. Fainted in M&S Food Hall which was rather embarrassing (funnily enough, almost to the day of when I fainted in Allders kitchen department during my first pregnancy - if I have a third, I'm blocking out the 17th & 18th weeks and making sure I don't go ANYWHERE!). Tried to call dh to pick me up from town as I was scared of driving back but he had his phone switched off as he was at the office xmas party.

Got back home unscathed but a bit shaken, and got glared at by nursery staff because they think ds has got conjunctivitis (but he hasn't! the tears are clear and the whites of his eyes aren't inflamed or even slightly pink!). Then dh finally arrives home, pissed as a newt and tracks dog poo into the house. ARGH!

In the scheme of things, not particularly terrible, but I'll be glad when this day's over

Linnet · 19/12/2003 23:03

Georgina, sorry to hear you've had an awful day. tomorrow will be much better I'm sure.

I read about the chinese gender chart on another site. Basically you take your age at time of conception and the month in which you conceived and check the chart which then predicts what sex your baby will be.

It's just a bit of fun really as it's not 100% accurate but lets face it you have a 50/50 chance of a boy or a girl, lol

I only discovered it a few months ago and it predicted a dd for me the first time round which I got. And this time it also predicts a dd which we now know is also correct, just a huge coincidence most probably but still it's fun.

I checked it for 3 of my friends who have all delivered within the past 3 months and they all got what the chart predicted, spooky!

if you go to:
www.parentsplace.com/pregnancy

then type chinese gender chart into the search box at the top of the page it will give you the search results and you want to click on the top link of the search results.

I've tried to do a link but it didn't look like it would work. Good luck and have fun

Ooo... I'm supposed to be having a boy

Oh well, guess I won't get to use that nice girl's name this time around either

Then again, cool ... a boy ... boys I know about...

laugh - you're probably right

GeorginaA · 20/12/2003 14:44

Then again, I've just rechecked the chinese gender chart to see what ds should have been - he should have been a dd apparently

GeorginaA · 20/12/2003 14:47

Ooo ... no. ds was a week and a bit "late" (well, personally, I think he was perfectly on time, but you know what I mean) - which would mean conception would have been the month before. Nope, chart got it right!

libb · 20/12/2003 17:48

I checked mine, it says it'll a boy for me too. That'll please DP and will say it all about me, I have to be the odd one of the family - girls seem to be "in thing" in my particular bunch of misfits!

Sorry, think I've confused myself too

What I meant was, that I couldn't remember conception date so I worked backwards 9 months from his birthday (early May), so conception would be August. Then I remembered that his due date had actually been late April so the conception date was likely to have been July.

Um.... I think

Glad you've all had fun with the chinese gender chart. I did actually first read about it on mumsnet but I can't find the thread now which is why I posted it that way.

But do remember that what the chart says is not set in stone it's only fun, probably just a huge coincidence for myself and my friends but you never can tell, lol

I was convinced that I was going to have a boy this time as everybody in my family always has a boy and girl, never two children of the same sex. But on dh's side they are all same sex so he says that he knew it was going to be a girl. I wouldn't have minded having a boy but I know what to do with girls IYKWIM so that is good as well, lol

If you all find out what you're having be sure to post and tell us so we can see if the chart predicted correctly.
