Anyone due May 04?

Just found out I'm pregnant with an EDD on May 7th, so though I'ld kick off this thread. I have a DS who was two last week. I am suprised to find myself having very mixed emotions - excitement at the thought of a sibling for DS, but horror at the thought of the pregancy, birth and first few months. Anyone else just found out they're pregnant?

I get my scans done at my local hospital and the 12 week scan was done at a big teaching hospital 20 miles away where they had state of the art equipment. At my local hospital they have a big new scanning machine that they got recently but I was still told to have a full bladder as it pushes the baby up and give a clearer picture. If I compare the picutres form this pregnancy with the pictures from my first pregnancy you can see a big difference in quality. this pregnancy's photo's are so much clearer.

The Rosie in Cambridge has told me to have a full bladder for the 20 week scan. They didn't mention it for the last one I had, luckily I had to wait and by time I got in I was ready to pop! so to speak . . .

I'm due on the 9th May - seems ages away.

Hello all, well I finally managed to get to the dr's today for my check up. All was well and I finally got to hear the baby's heartbeat Dr managed to find it first time so that was good. I've to go back to her when I'm 24 weeks.

My Dr also said that the hospital want to do a cardiac scan at 24 weeks and that my platelets are low so she had to take a blood sample from me, oh joy. She said to phone for the results at the end of the week and if the platelets are still low then I'll have to have a blood test done every 4 weeks, eek I hate getting blood taken. I'm off to do a look up on low platelets and what it means etc.

Hope you are all doing well and looking forward to christmas.

GeorginaA · 09/12/2003 08:23

It's exciting, isn't it Linnet?! I got to hear my baby's heartbeat for the first time too yesterday. Ds was really excited as well, started asking me in a loud voice on the way home "when's the baby coming out, Mummy?" and keeps telling me he wants a sister (bless, he's only 2.5) Got lots of indulgent smiles as a result from people waiting in the waiting room it was lovely

I also think I've felt a little bit of baby wriggling over the last couple of days, and there's definitely been a hard bit around the front now and then which I assume has been baby's head, back or bottom as it's shuffled around for a comfy position. I'm 16wks+2.

Linnet · 10/12/2003 22:26

Hello, just a quick post to let you know that My Dr phoned from the hospital today to say that they got the results back last night from the full cultures and they all came back clear.

So I get my 19 week scan next week when we'll find out what it is, my gut instinct says that it's a boy but we'll have to see what they say at the hospital, and I get another scan at 24 weeks just to check everything is ok with the heart but other than that it's all systems go.

Had a meeting at work this afternoon and the baby wriggled and wriggled and wriggled some more, so that was a nice feeling took my mind off the boring bits of the meeting anyway, lol.

And the plan is still to do the big announcement on Christmas Day, my dh says we should wait until New Years day but I'm not sure I think christmas day is better for announcements of this sort, what do you all think? Christmas day or new years day?

GeorginaA · 11/12/2003 08:26

Good news Linnet!

The important question re: Christmas Day or New Years Day is after you've been bursting to tell for so long, do you really think you can wait the extra few days?

Rhea · 11/12/2003 09:18

Hi Linnet,

I am really amazed that you still haven't told anyone! I have really blobbed out, so there's no hiding the baby bump (even though it is being enhanced by some mince pie blubber!!!) and I one of those annoying preganant women who keeps on rubbing their tummy!

Go for Christmas Day!

Oh, and date check, I'm due on 7th May.

prufrock · 11/12/2003 09:39

Linnet that's wonderful news. I would definately do Xmas day - it will be a lovely present for everyone. Last time round I was going to do the same, I'd planned to do extra Xmas cards from the blob with scan pictures in for all the granparents to be, but just couldn't keep my mouth shut for that long.

And date check - May 14th, but already know I can't carry past April 23th so looks like I'll be first!

Bozza · 11/12/2003 10:40

Got results of my triple test which were all low risk. Obviously very pleased as at 17+4 weeks am quite far on to be having more testing. Just got 20 week anomaly scan.

Pleased things are going OK for you Linnet. I would go for Christmas Day. Everyone except you will be hungover on New Years Day so might be a bit damp. Still in awe of you keeping it secret for so long!

Prufrock what is it about 23 April? Do you need a C? Even so they normally go beyond 36 weeks don't they?

Linnet · 11/12/2003 11:17

Thank You all. I agree that it should be christmas day and have told Dh that is when we are going to tell everyone.

I've noticed now that when I lie down I have a little bump but not to big. I can still get into my work trousers and I have one pair of jeans that i'm wearing all the time, they were a bit big to start with so have lasted me well so far. I don't think I'll still be in them by new years day though which is why I think we should tell everyone at christmas as I'll be 20 weeks by then.

I noticed last night that I can't lie on my tummy anymore the first time round I was 19 weeks when I couldn't lie on my tummy so I'm a week ahead in showing/bump emerging if you know what I mean. I think having lasted this long without telling anyone I'll last a few more days until christmas day, not sure I'd last until New Years though.

Rhea I'm glad to hear that things are going ok for you and you know what you're having. I'm going to find out next week, I can't stand the suspense of not knowing this time. And Happy birthday to your dd for tomorrow.

and Bozza glad to hear that your results came back low risk.

Is anyone else going to find out what they are having?

prufrock · 11/12/2003 11:21

23rd April is 37 weeks. I have obstetric cholestasis again, so it's dangerous to go past 37 weeks. It might even be earlier depending on how well my liver bears up.

Bozza · 11/12/2003 12:21

So prufrock will you be induced or have a section? Sorry don't know much about the condition.

Can't get into many of my work clothes now and my jeans/cords went last week. Not wearing proper maternity clothes yet though. Bought a selection of stuff two sizes too big from Asda sale.

prufrock · 11/12/2003 13:54

Section. Thye tried inducing me at 36+5 with my dd. 44 hours later I was only 1cm dilated (hadn't felt any pain - execpt the bloody TENS machine) so they gave up and did a section. This time round it's got to be a section as you can't be induced after a previous section - and I'm likely to have the same result as my cervix still won't know what to do.

I have to say I'm sort of happy about it. I was always determined to "do" birth, but when they said I had to deliver I was quite relieved that I had a decent medical excuse to get out of it. What a wuss

hi all, not been on for ages - busy at work with school play etc...
glad you are all well,
anyway, am nearly 18 weeks (sunday) and have felt baby bubbling about for last 6 days. very strange but nice. have definite bump now and cant fit into anything anymore without having belt undone - hooray for bellybelts, and wearing maternity trousers from next big time. they are nice and stretchy so keep to your size, big or small.
have had dreadful tummy bug, or something i ate last week. dont know if i mentioned. was out for staff xmas meal and spent whole night in toilet. was v worried had got salmonella or something, but ok 12 hours later. anyone else been like this? am feeling a bit funny in the tummy tonight too and its dh's works meal. oh god, another night in the loo?

p.s. what does 'anomaly' mean.?

hope u r ok?

Cavy · 14/12/2003 11:09

NCT runs maternity hire wear scheme -- I went and hired 5 pairs of trousers & a swimsuit for £6, yesterday. I promised the lady I would publicise it; It's such good value because I was going to spend £6 on buying a 2nd hand swimsuit on Ebay that I couldn't even try on before buying! So if any of you ladies need any more maternity wear, maybe try to contact your local branch of NCT first!
