Just found out I'm pregnant with an EDD on May 7th, so though I'ld kick off this thread. I have a DS who was two last week. I am suprised to find myself having very mixed emotions - excitement at the thought of a sibling for DS, but horror at the thought of the pregancy, birth and first few months. Anyone else just found out they're pregnant?

good news linnet, so pleased for you. twiglett - funny that, i dreamt was being kicked last night and getting severe jabbing pains in stomach, like being stabbed. i do sometimes get sharp shoots like lightening when i'm just sitting still, but dont think they can be kicks. maybe you should ask midwife

prufrock · 27/11/2003 19:58

Wonderful news Linnet - good luck with the next lot of results.

Twiglett I've been getting those for about 8 weeks - midwife said it was just ligaments/muscles stretching

Hi everyone,

It is so nice to see us all settling in to similar patterns! It seems a lot of us are going to be busy with scans on the 2nd of January! If any of you are going to the Rosie in Cambridge then let me know . . .

I have also had the odd stabbing pain but my sister tells me that this is normal (ligaments etc.). My worst habit is forgetting to be a bit more careful when bending down or falling asleep on my tum - I am starting to feel an obvious lump now. Can't be bad! My poor friend is only 7 weeks, has told the world, decided names and has chronic morning sickness. I feel a bit guilty because so far (touch wood) I have found it very straight forward.

I also told my soon to be ex-husband this week and he took it really well (but then he is a lovely guy, even if he is not for me). I think I might even allow myself to relax and enjoy this a bit more . . . . maybe.

I am so pleased we are all doing well, take care everyone and hugs to all of you.

i'm having a scan too on the 2nd Jan - it's my birthday too !

GeorginaA · 28/11/2003 13:03

I'm 14wks +5 now, and the last couple of days I've been getting pains in my stomach as if I've pulled a huge muscle there, really quite uncomfortable. Different place each time and I don't think I've been overdoing it (well, apart from carrying a 2.5 year old around.... but never mind!). This is normal stretching right?

Worried of Worcester.

I'm not sure whether I should be relieved that I'm not the only one, or sad that someone else is afflicted! Had a really painful one this afternoon straight across my midriff!

sigh and just as I was starting to think this pregnancy lark was actually okay, lol.

To be honest, I can't say that it does. It just feels exactly like I'd pulled a muscle in my leg and need to massage it out, except it's not in my leg it's in my stomach, if you see what I mean!

You're a couple of weeks further on than me though aren't you? Maybe I have that joy to come!

libb · 28/11/2003 20:53

Me too with the twinges. Still having weird dreams too - last night I dreamt I went to a convention for women who regularly wear clothes from Monsoon. Very weird.

We also told some other close friends our news today so we are pretty much covered now - can't believe it will be 17 weeks tomorrow!

Linnet · 28/11/2003 21:43

I can't decide if I've been feeling the baby move yet or not. It's probably just wishful thinking now that I know everything is ok. I'm 16 weeks and 2 days and keep feeling funny movements and jerks but they all seem to be to high up to be the baby just yet. I can't remember when I first felt my dd move but I'm sure at this stage any movement would be down below my belly button but today at work I could feel all these funny movements up above my belly button. It was probably just my lunch being digested or something but all very strange. Maybe it was just ligaments moving around who knows.

Egypt · 28/11/2003 22:14

WOW- weird, have my scan on 2nd Jan too. My birthday is on the 5th vivat! Spooky. Having twinges too, but not lasting for more than a second. Midwife did say its the ligaments stretching. NOthing to worry about at all. in fact q reassuring i suppose.
oh someone asked me about those next trousers - forget who - they are on page 186 of autumn/winter catalogue - yes maternity section. Letter 'F', in both charcoal and black. Got one of each!

Linnet · 28/11/2003 23:16

I feel quite left out as my next scan in on December 19th. Mind you I'm in Scotland Jan 2nd is holiday here so I don't think there would be any scans that day. That's my dads birthday though and mine is the 10th. Lots of January birthdays between us expectant mums.

Egypt it was me who asked about the trousers I'll have to have a look in my catalouge and see about ordering some as I'll definitely be needing them for going back to work in January.

Egypt · 30/11/2003 18:04

Linnet, you're lucky, you dont have as long to wait! Lots of capricorn mums having taurean babies then! both earth signs, not that that means anything. think later in may is gemini? not sure....

libb · 30/11/2003 18:15

Later in May is Gemini, I'm in June so a later one. Kind of wish that sprog was too in a way, better than a Leo like his sometimes bolshy dad!

The midwife came by yesterday and listened to the the heartbeat swooshing about - although it took some time to locate . . . must be my child for sure!

Linnet · 30/11/2003 21:05

I had to share with you all the fact that last night I felt the first definite kick When I went to bed I could feel a hardish lump on the left hand side, funny how they seem to like certain sides, then I felt what I think was a kick, a definite movement anyway, and then the lump disappeared. I haven't felt anything definite since although there do seem to be rumblings but I can't decide if those are movements that aren't near enough to the surface to feel properly or just my insides on the move, IYKWIM.
Going to my Dr on Wednesday for my check up, I'll be 17 weeks then. Hoping that she'll let me hear the heartbeat.
Hope you're all doing well and had a good weekend.

GeorginaA · 30/11/2003 22:38

Ooo how exciting Linnet

I'm so looking forward to feeling the kicks, 3 weeks seems an eternity away...

Snips · 01/12/2003 19:53

I'm only 14+2 with EDD 29th May 2003. Is anyone else around that time or is everyone earlier?
Don't want everyone to forget me once you have your little ones (sob sob).

Bozza · 01/12/2003 22:20

I guess I must be feeling better to be posting at this time. Although I am all ready for bed. i've been having the twinges too. But think I have felt the baby but only when lying down whereas the twinges tend to be when moving about.

I guess so many of us are having Jan 2nd scans because its the post Christmas rush. So probably we'll all have to wait ages with full bladders...

Snips · 02/12/2003 13:57

Don't think you need a full bladder for the 20 week scan...maybe worth checking with hospital though.

Egypt · 02/12/2003 18:34

hi all
oh i hate that waiting with a full bladder. dont know if you need one. i guess so.
linnet thats great news. cant wait for it to happen to me. this is your 2nd though right? so i guess i wont feel it for a bit yet, as is my first.

shall we have a 'dates call?'

Me - 17 May

i'm sure you are right twiglett!

weeeell, didnt have to have a full bladder for 10 wk scan as was an internal. was told to have one for nuchal scan at 12 wks, after half an hour of trying to measure fold and failing, couldnt stand it any longer and had to go to the loo. after that the sonographer couldnt get as good a pic, so she had to do an internal. full bladder def gives them a better pic as the waves work better through water. but at 20 wks, surely the uterus is well up from the bladder anyway......i dont know. not been told either way for the 20 wks one.

Linnet · 02/12/2003 21:40

I'm due May 13th. And this is my second, I'll find out what I'm having in a couple of weeks as well when I go in for my 19 week scan.

Well that is what the hospital say. If I go by the date of my last period I'm due May 2nd, Hmm, they say baby is due on the 13th because of it's size, well we'll see when it arrives, if it's anything like it's sister it'll be late.

You have to have a full bladder for your first scan at 12 weeks as the baby is small and down inside your pelvis and if your bladder is full it pushes the baby up a bit so they can see it better on the screen. If your bladder is empty then the baby is to far down to see.
When you go for a 19/20 scan scan you don't need to have a full bladder as the baby is no longer down in your pelvis but up above the pubic bone and they are able to see it clearly on the scan.

I had a full bladder for my 11 and 12 week scans but I didn't really bother for my scan at 14 weeks. I did drink some water before that scan but I wasn't bursting to go. I was told that I didn't need a full bladder for my amnio at 16 weeks or my 19 week scan.
