Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

oooh how exciting - sounds like it is all go for you MrsD. You might beat us all to be first. Very jealous. I would have been quite happy at least you are past 38wks.

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 14:28

Maybe it's psychosomatic but I my back is seriously beginning to ache now. Maybe I should go and get something to eat. Can't think what to do. The One day I can't get hold of anyone!!!!

M2T · 25/03/2004 14:32

MrsDoolittle - If your contractions don't start tonight they might just need a little assistance to get you going. Then you'll still have the 'simple' birth you want. Don't be too disheartened. If you're getting a dull ache in your cervix it could already have started to dilate.

I'm sure they can leave you up to 48hrs after the waters break as long as baby is happy enough.

M2T · 25/03/2004 14:35

MrsDoolittle - Where is your birthing partner/DP/DH??? I'd get them there pronto to rub your back.

udar · 25/03/2004 14:39

Get the Tens machine out - it is supposed to be best if used from early on.

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 14:39

My midwife was hear last night. I have been contracting on and off the last couple of weeks, don't know if they were strong or not as i don't have anything to compare them to. Anyway, she had a wee feel and I am already dilating - she could feel babies head through the waters the. She went through the cervix. I guess it's made me a little jumpy now!! hence the concern that i am over-reacting.

M2T · 25/03/2004 15:12

MrsDL - That sounds almost exactly what happened to me. I was examined the week before and found to be between 1-2 cm dilated. Then when my waters broke 6 days later my labour was close behind it.

Keep us posted, it's very exciting. And keeping walking around. And DO eat something coz if you do go into labour now then you'll need your energy.

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 15:40

Owwwww - My back hurts!! I'm walking. Trying not to get excited - I don't know if they have boken yet.

LucyJones · 25/03/2004 15:46

Good luck Mrs Doolittle. I work up last night with really painful period type like cramps - Braxton Hicks i'm guessing. I tried to breathe through them but they were really painful - I was just think how much pain is the real contractions going to be HMC - what are the 36 things you've got on your list? I'm getting really bored now! Head still not engaged either

M2T · 25/03/2004 15:48

Try sitting the wrong way on a dining room chair. Lean over the back of the chair and relax.

OR Stand up leaning over the back of the sofa (or anything comfy) and rock your pelvis.

If the back pain gets really bad take some paracetamol and get down on all 4's!

Are you still 'trickling'? Have you checked the pad to see what colour the fluid is?

I'm leaving work in 45 mins.... when is the MW coming???!

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 15:56

She has just phoned to say she is on her way. I don't have a TENS machine because I have never had backache, but I have got a fitball!!! She will be here in a minute, the maternity suite have phoned to see how I am doing. I phoned them in a blind panic this morning. i am going to feel really stupid if this is a false alarm!!!
I am heading for the paracetamol right now!

M2T · 25/03/2004 16:02

Don't worry about feeling silly if it's a false alarm.... whether you give birth tonight or tomorrow the MW still needs to check if your waters have broken.
I'm so excited for you! Can you tell???

piglit · 25/03/2004 16:09

So am I! This is my first MN birth, so to speak!!

M2T · 25/03/2004 16:31

MrsDL - I'm assuming the MW is with you. I'm leaving work in 10 mins!! GOOD LUCK! I'll be logging on at 8am tomorrow for an update.

And remember....... brrrrreeeathe.

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 17:30

Thank you for all your messages. MW has just left. Waters have not broken, probably a mixture of bathwater and show. A pretty uncomfortable speculum produced the remaining show - a large brownish lump of jelly (sorry to be graphic) and the news that I am now 2cm dilated. Drugs have helped the backache and MW has helped the panic, so hopefully will sleep well tonight. Unless, of course......

Fennel · 25/03/2004 18:33

Looks as though I just might be joining you in labour mrs D. have been having very mild contractions all day, it's very like my early labour with dd2. Except I can't actually believe I'd go into labour this early so have to assume it might just be a false start.

Am not quite ready if it is coming now, my TENS is arriving tomorrow and I haven't cleaned the bedroom ready for the home birth! it's a dusty mess and dds have been playing marbles all over it this evening so bed and room are now covered in marbles!

don't know whether to hope it's a false alarm or just get it over with. scary.....

udar · 25/03/2004 18:40

oooh I'm so excited for you both. Nothing at this end yet.
I'll be on when I get up in the morning for updates, or if there is no sign of you both then will be assuming you are on your way to the hospital.

Fennel · 25/03/2004 18:44

Not hospital for me I hope! Unless the midwife takes one look at my slovenly bedroom and declares it a health hazard. Off to clean and dust it now. will report back in the morning, if labour doesn't start at least I will have a sparkling clean room

good luck Mrs D you sound more likely than me to be getting close.

dot1 · 25/03/2004 19:02

ooh - it's very exciting!! I've just had my ante natal and baby has dropped more - now 3/5 engaged, but still posterior - I'm trying not to fret about it. V. bad backache today and lots of v. strong Braxton Hicks - keeps kidding me it's the beginning of labour. Tummy is soooooo tight it must be soon..?! My hope/bet is the weekend, but I suppose it could be another week or so (aargghh!). Fennel and Mrs D - keep us posted!!

Re: sitting - I've been sitting right on the edge of the settee with my knees on the floor, if that makes sense? - leaning on the coffee table! Not helped though, so not sure if I'm going to carry on doing it as it's not the most comfy position in the world - can't do all 4's for very long though - my arms aren't strong enough to hold me up!

LucyJones · 25/03/2004 19:06

Hi Dot1 - I've been trying to be good and sit forward but then get back ache so might have to give up! Getting really bored on maternity leave now. Wish I'd stayed at work a few more weeks

Metrobaby · 25/03/2004 20:54

Good luck MrsD ... looks like you're going to be the first graduate from here.

M2T · 26/03/2004 08:12

Fennel and MrsDoolittle - ANY NEWS??? God I can't believe how excited I'm getting!! Can't wait until us August people are in the same boat.

Lesley76 · 26/03/2004 08:59

Well I guess no news from Fennel and mrs D is good news!

Sorry i haven't posted for a while - i got a horrible bug two weeks ago and was quite ill - couldn't keep anything down for nearly a week so got dehydrated, ran high temperatures, lost 4kg when I'd only put on 10kg during preg etc. Remarkably the baby was fine throughout this - as the MW kept saying, they are parasites - they will take all that's going - its only you who feels terrible !!!

So now after two weeks of feeling so weak I now feel GREAT!! Because im two weeks behind on all the things i wanted to get done, i DONT want to hurry things up at all. Like dot1, we've been doing work on the house, so have still 3 bedrooms out of action - ours, baby's and DSS1s. We are sleeping in DSD1s room, she is in DD2s room and and DD2 is on her floor...... you get the idea!!! So baby can't come now as the house is in chaos..........

I've also had NOT ONE single braxton hicks or cramp or anything like that at all. No sore boobs or colostrum. No backache but baby is still not properly head down most of the time so don't have that horrid feeling of a heavy weight pressing "down there". Apart from having a bigger bump, I don't feel any different from when i was 6 months preg! Should i be worried as I'm now 37 weeks? Does this mean I'll be late?

MrsDoolittle · 26/03/2004 09:18

Good morning! Still here! Terrible night last night, although got a few hours sleep with the help of co-dydramol. Have got out of bed aching and sore - my cervix is thinning (apparently). Just wondering if I dare drop myself into the bath again this morning. Poor dh! No word from Fennel yet?
