Anyone due in April 2004?!

Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

Contractions/twinges are back. Too painful for comfort but not very strong to actually get hopeful. I am feeling fed up, this feels as though it could go on for weeks. Am certainly getting close to the edge mentally if not labour-wise....

dot1 · 26/03/2004 19:44

Sympathy all round to those having these flipping pains - I'm getting strong pains on and off during the day and night, but nothing regular enough or for long enough to get excited about - it's getting hard to tell whether they're just strong Braxton Hicks, or mild contractions - they're definitely more 'painful' now - but keep stopping... Could still be another week or so I suppose - due date on Wednesday...

Poor old dp is being driven insane with me mentioning them - although I don't mention all of them - especially the ones at night!

Come on - one of us must go into 'proper' labour soon....!

Hello all, just caught up with your news. Home PC has been out of action for a week and I have been madly busy at work (only 2 more days to go before I start my mat leave though!)
Good luck to all those experiencing signs of labour - hoping I'll get a chance to put my feet up and read or just relax for a while before my little one puts in an appearance (36 weeks at the mo).
MrsDoolittle - do you live in Oxford?

udar · 26/03/2004 20:38

Well I'm back. I'm worried that it'll never happen, I just don't want to be medically induced in 2 weeks or so.
It's funny, walking to the gym was harder than actually doing the class.
Will be checking in again in the morning to see if there is any news from the three of you that are having pains.

udar · 27/03/2004 07:53

ooh plugs gone so I should be on my way soonish too.
how is everyone this morning?

Fennel · 27/03/2004 08:41

Hi Udar, that sounds hopeful for you.

Nothing new happening with me, will just have to think of some nice things to do this weekend. Besides constant arguing with DP.

Is Mrs D around this morning? I am having trouble getting much use out of my birthing ball, every time I get on it I am joined by dd1 on the back and dd2 on the front, both bouncing hard. Fun for them but not very relaxing for me.

udar · 27/03/2004 09:40

Don't see any sign of MrsD this morning. Her dh mightn't get to watch the rugby after all.
Not sure how you are managing with 2 + bump, can't imagine the energy levels needed for that, I'd say so much more than my gym going.
I'm off to repack the hospital bag so I know exactly where everything is in it.

MrsDoolittle · 27/03/2004 14:47

Hello Ladies, Still here I am afraid! I can identify with you Fennel. Midwife told me last week I was probably in early labour, you know the show, being 2cm dilated and contractions and all that hence all the excitement. Now all has gone quiet and dh has gone to watch rugby. So I am well and truly fed up, probably for the best. Watching him calmly read the paper this morning was driving me bonkers. Get this, this morning in Tescos I asked him what snacks he might like to get for the labour (in hospital), he just looked at me incredulously and said "Well I don't intend on missing any main meals!" "Darling!" I said "You have no idea"
Hewlettsdaughter - yes I do live in Oxford!!

LucyJones · 27/03/2004 14:49

Wow Udar - can't believe you've had a show already! Was you r due date 31st March? Mine's 30th and nothing as yet....

MrsDoolittle · 27/03/2004 15:02

Lucyjones- I am not due til next Saturday, I had a show on Thursday! Wish baby would hurry up - must be having far too much fun in there. Which reminds me - raspberry leaf tablets....

udar · 27/03/2004 15:12

Oh MrsD I can't believe your dh. Did he got to antenatal classes with you to learn what to expect?
Yes am due Wed 31, contractions were coming for about 20-30secs every hour but the last one seemed a bit shorter. I've started the arnica one tablet every 4 hours. Am hoping this won't go on for days.
Even though my due date is on Wed, I think my date was last wed due to temp charting in June/July, but babies run late on both sides of family so who knows when it will join us. Don't know if we can handle the anticipation for too long.

MrsDoolittle · 27/03/2004 15:59

Udar, there's every possibility you could be the first of us then. Poor dh did come to the antenatal classes but it doesn't seem like he was listening does it? It was when he asked me if he could have some chap from work over for dinner next week that I nearly fell off my chair, and he's never met the guy!! (He won't mention it again!!) I was wondering about the arnica thing, I have heard it's good for bruising. Have you used it before? Oh and btw, sorry to be graphic but does anyone have diahrroea?

LucyJones · 27/03/2004 16:19

Perhaps I should start the raspberry leaf tablets! How often do you take them for? Is arnica for internal bruising?

hewlettsdaughter · 27/03/2004 16:33

Fennel, I have a mental image of you and your dds all bouncing on your birthing ball - I'm not surprised you're not finding it very relaxing! I bought a bean bag as an alternative seat some time ago but my ds seems to have appropriated it. Udar, good luck! And MrsD! We live in the same city! Did we go to the same physio group session? I'll send you an email via "Contact another talker" in case you want to get in touch (although by the sounds of it you may soon have other things to think about.....!)

MrsDoolittle · 27/03/2004 17:02

Hewlettsdaughter I have returned you a message via contact talker. Udar has gone quiet, maybe her contractions have picked up! I am becoming uncomfortable again, I don't know if it's contractions starting again or it's sitting here at the computer preceeded by a battle around Tescos this morning. Worrying, as the dog is going to need a walk soon, dh is out on the town! Gee, don't I whinge?

Lesley76 · 27/03/2004 17:53

How are you all doing? I'm not due for another 3 weeks and have not the slightest sign of anything happening for MONTHS yet. So don't know whether or not to envy you all....I still have a long list of things "to do" ( like pack for hospital, write birth plan etc)

Mrs D - I think the runs is a common thing in early labour. Your body sort of clearing the way IYKWIM!! Glad you have survived the day without your DH.

Some of our work on the house is now finished so I took our 4yo to a children's show this morning while Dh and our nephew moved furniture around, rehung curtains & blinds etc. So now we are back in our own bedroom. Baby's room is ready - well it has electricity, a carpet and a cot, which is an improvement on yesterday. Our two DDs have their own rooms back, so only DSS still not in own room.

This all makes me feel less panicy in case the baby arrives early in the middle of all this chaos.

This weekend is our wedding anniversary and my lovely Dh sent me an arrangement of the same flowers i had in my bouquet!!!! Isn't he wonderful! He did offer to take me away for a romantic weekend but to be honest I just wanted to get the house sorted out. Shame really as i guess there wont be much romance for a while.........sigh

MrsDoolittle · 27/03/2004 18:47

Oh well, if I drop now I'll be week early and if I drop in two weeks time I'll be a week later. Both are to be expected so I guess I have to wait and see. Thanks Lesley, I have survived the day without dh. It's been nice and relaxing actually after all the panic last week. I have walked the dog so now I am going to relax some more. Everyone keeps telling us to make the most of it before our lives change forever.
Hope you are all well and coping with the pains, it's the not knowing when that bugs me.

udar · 27/03/2004 19:29

Still here, a bit hap hazard with the contractions, they eased off a bit during the day but seem to have picked up again tonight, just had a 15sec one 20ish minutes after the last.
I read a thread back in Feb about taking arnica tablets for internal bruising, ordered some 200 tablets from helios as all the stores only sell 30 and apparently that isn't stong enough.
Wow isn't it all go for us. Glad things are coming together Lesley, the less stress you have now the better.
MrsD - no diarrohea but I have been expecting it as it is known to happen.
Went for a walk this afternoon and am amazed that I'm still not waddling - pretty stoked actually but is anybody else the same?

Fennel · 27/03/2004 19:44

I'm still here too, virtually no contractions today, feel a bit relieved, 2 days of vague contractions was a bit nerve wracking and now we are a bit more back to "normal", just getting on with things.

Mrs D, yes it's the not knowing when which is hard. I didn't have this starting and stopping the other times.

dot1 · 27/03/2004 20:59

I'm still here aswell - pains on and off but no real pattern - just some strong Braxtons and then some 'contractions' - more painful - but then nothing at all for hours... Also, v. annoying - I haven't got diahorrea - have all of a sudden started to get constipated! Don't know why - I know it should be exactly the opposite - honestly this baby's having a laugh...

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 27/03/2004 22:16

Dh has just phoned to say he is coming home after the rugby - didn't sound too coherent. But then as my day hasn't been too eventful I can afford to be charitable. Udar - I am not waddling either, although I developed SPD when baby's head engaged, it seems better now. I am surprised too. I am sure you are an awful lot fitter than me though. And Fennel - it sounds like you and I are in the same boat. Everytime I feel a "tightening" I don't know whether to hope it goes away or that it might be 'it'! I keep checking this site to see how everyone is coming along but it seems like we have all reached stalemate for the moment. Hope there is some activity soon. Goodluck to everyone!!

udar · 28/03/2004 00:33

Well I think I'm getting somewhere. Just got back from the hospital as I thought I was dripping and maybe my waters had broken so they wanted to check me out.
Yes my waters are dripping - they wanted to keep me in the hospital overnight but as we live so close to the hospital I asked if I could come home. I have to go back in between 9-10 tomorrow, take my temperature 4 hourly and if I don't go into established contractions by 7pm tomorrow night they will help me along which I don't want as then I can't try for a water birth.
So may well see you here in a couple of days...Good luck everybody

Lesley76 · 28/03/2004 04:22

Good luck Udar..let us know how you get on. Keeping my fingers crossed that you will get the
waterbirth you want .

handlemecarefully · 28/03/2004 05:25

This damn insomnia is killing me - still at least I get time to check out mumsnet.

ALL THE VERY BEST UDAR!!! - it looks like you are all set for tomorrow.

...And Mrs Doolittle, I have to have a little laugh about your dh - bless him. He sure is going to get rudely awakened when the baby arrives...fancy wanting to invite a colleague around for dinner next week! If it's any consolation my dh was exactly the same before dd arrived, but quickly caught on that life takes more planning, and involves more compromises after she was born..

LucyJones · 28/03/2004 10:41

The best of luck Udar - how exciting! I'm not waddling either but I think that might be because the baby's head isn't engaged at all so I still get heartburn and that pain under my ribs. Felt some cramping last night but nthing regular so am assuming i'll be a while yet! Couldn't sleep though for fretting about giving birth
