Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

Well had 3 cups of raspberry leaf tea today, one in the afternoon and 2 after getting back from the gym. Nothing yet...
just lots and lots of braxton hicks.

MrsDoolittle · 24/03/2004 10:38

Good morning. Anyone online yet?
I am pleased I am not the only one fed up and waiting. My tummy is really tight too and moving around is becoming more and more of a challenge.

dolbear · 24/03/2004 15:33

dot , hope your news is good re baby turning , if it does not, will the docs try to do it manualy ?
went to dr today , still no engagement , what is it doing in there ?
dr made the comment that it was a " good size " mmm which made me a little nervous
soooo big and tight also , did not know that the female body could stretch so much ! surely this is not possible ?

MrsDoolittle · 24/03/2004 16:38

dolbear - what did your midwife say? I think they are more used to feeling babies.

dolbear · 24/03/2004 18:00

mrs D
the midwife has so far made no comment on the size , other than I am " average " if there is such a thing when it comes to babies !
I am 5,2 so that may have something to do with looking a little on the big side
so to speak

udar · 24/03/2004 20:45

Have my antenatal at the dr tomorrow morning and just know they are going to tell me it hasn't engaged yet either.
Went out and got some raspberry leaf tablets at a small pharmacy near the gym. If they are stronger than the tea I'll try anything.
I don't feel too awkward or anything yet and anytime I do I just keep telling myself I know people who weigh what I do without a bump so should still be able to get around.
Lathering myself in non stretchmark tonic.

bluecow · 24/03/2004 20:53

I hate fruit teas so took the tablets from about 38 weeks when pregnant with my son.

Ref having a show - my experience of it with my son in Oct 2002 was weird and funny. I was lying in bed at 8.30am on 24/10/2002 - my due date - and said to my bump, 'Come on Luke (obviously we knew it was a boy!), it's your birthday'. I kid you not but a second or two later there was a pop as my waters broke and I had the show as well!

I didn't know till watching a baby prog the other day that only 10% of labours start with the waters breaking first - I thought from all those TV dramas that's the way they all start!!

Dot1 - my son went posterior either on the day of or during his birth so there is every chance if your babe is still posterior they can switch round the other way too. I hope so.

My tummy is huge and tight too. I'm carrying very low too which is doing my back in.

Fennel · 25/03/2004 09:28

Dot, my baby is posterior this week too, but the midwife insists they often move around by the time you go into labour.

Baby's head is 3/5 engaged so that's hopeful.

surely it's time we had a graduate from this thread onto the birth announcements! come on april babies...

udar · 25/03/2004 10:03

I'm 4/5 to 3/5 engaged but the dr said that they can pop in and out at this point.
Thought it might have been about to happen last night as some pretty intense cramps which actually woke me up but it doesn't seem to have led anywhere.

M2T · 25/03/2004 10:09

I'm SOOOOOOO excited for you all!!! I keep checking this thread so see if we have any 'online' labours!!

Udar - It's a very good sign that you are having these pains..... keep up and active. I think you're going to be the 1st graduate from this thread.

handlemecarefully · 25/03/2004 10:30

Blimey M2T - you're more excited than we are! At least give us until April to sprog

Fennel · 25/03/2004 10:46

ooh, just had 3 little contractions! my first, suspect they are just Braxton Hicks though as still got 2.5 weeks to go.

don't really want a baby this week, early april would be soon enough.

M2T · 25/03/2004 11:02

LOL Handlemecarefully.... I know. It stops me thinking about long I've got to go!

Fennel.

udar · 25/03/2004 11:11

Oooh hope that it all happens soon. I had words with bump this morning saying that today is it's birthday. Off for an hours walk now. Hopefully the rain will hold out for a bit.
Other good news is that my weight hasn't changed since last week so hopefully the baby is fully baked now.
If I'm going to be late the birth date I want is 04-04-04, but hopefully it'll happen before then.
dot1 forgot to ask how the new house is, have you got everything organised and sorted now. Bet it is hard to believe you haven't been in there for ages now.

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 12:26

Good morning everyone!
I am waiting for my midwife to get back to me. I got this trickling down my legs this morning after i dried myself when I got out of the bath. I assumed at the time it was just from the bath. Now I have damp knickers and jeans, what do you think? I am 39 weeks on Sunday, bit early for first baby don't you think?

M2T · 25/03/2004 12:28

MrsDoolittle!!

My waters broke at 39wks with my ds (1st baby too). My contractions started 6 hrs later!!! Maybe you'll be the 1st graduate? Any twinges? Back ache???

Keep us all informed.

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 12:36

I have to admit that I have got a little jumpy lately and maybe overexcited - now I am terrified. I can't concentrate, maybe I should take the dog for a walk (and the phone with me).
No back ache, just a dull cervical ache when I walk. If I start thinking about it i'll imagine I have everything. I should go and take my lunchtime raspberry leaf tablets!!

Yup - Go for a walk... that should get things going.

M2T · 25/03/2004 12:41

MrsDoolittle - It might also be a good idea to wear a sanitory towel too. That way you can see the colour of the fluid..... I think the amniotic fluid is slightly pinkish.

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 12:45

Uhmm - a walk it is. Have changed knickers and put a pad on. I'll catch you later. The dog will be pleased!

handlemecarefully · 25/03/2004 12:45

An exciting development Mrs Doolittle - keep us posted (especially M2T who is gagging to know more - sorry M2T, will stop teasing you now)

handlemecarefully · 25/03/2004 12:48

Well my news can't compete with Mrs Doolittle's - but just to say, I've got 1 hour and 15 mins left at work before my mat leave starts (am 36 weeks and 4 days currently). Hurrah!

Have a big to do list (currently 36 items) of things I want to achieve on mat leave before baby arrives, so I am a rarity here - someone who doesn't want to give birth before my due date (got too much to do first!)

M2T · 25/03/2004 13:31

HMC... You're right of course.

MrsDoolittle · 25/03/2004 14:06

Well I am back now. My midwife is coming to check me out later. Unfortunately, if my waters have broken and I don't go into labour tonight, it's going to scupper my plans for a simple birth. As for the walk - you know the hypnotists trick "Your eyes are feeling really heavy now.."? Well I felt like someone was saying that to my bump. I fely like it was going to hit the floor when I got back. I am pleased to be sitting down again.
