Gingeme - I am pleased to say that I think in todays society you are NEVER too old to change careers and a doula is not something you can start on without some years of experience behind you. I dont know of any courses and I wonder if it is one of those professions that you need practical trainign for rather than home study - although I can see the appeal of homestudy. Good luck.

Well E is the day after G and we have no plans on the actual day apart from a cake atoddler group. The Sat before we are having my family round for cake and on the Sun we will pop to ILs for more cake. I might get in some Toy Story paper plates and napkins as he is obsessed.

madmouse · 02/01/2011 14:08

Go for it Gingeme! Smile you will be brill

There is good info here on the official Doula website. Seems you can do most of the study from home with some weekends to learn the practical stuff.

Thankyou madmouse Xmas Smile

Simps - sympathies about the new/ongoing issues with H. Are you thinking about organising a divorce one day? Maybe a set/written/agreed plan of contact would help. And then you could keep a record of when he fails to keep his part of the deal. Horrid stuff though.

Gingeme - agree, never too late, and anyway who'd want a doula that was 17 with no kids? Imagine you'd be a real help, esp with G's experience, lol!!

I actually have a friend here who's similar to you, wants to retrain as something, put off by midwifery, has 4 DC, youngest just started sch in Sept. She's my official birth partner this time round for when DH can't make it/has to mind the boys, though weirdly my EDD is her birthday! Told her no drinking this year Grin

All ok here, H up at 6.10 which is ok, he has done better (like yesterday when it was DH's turn, 7.40!!!) but we seem to have seen the back of 5-somethings.
Bump uncomfortable, sure it's still breech and must be bigger/more awkward than H as i can tell! Have already had words with it.

H's new game - turning the living room light on and off (ad nauseam) and this morning he's figured out how to push a stool over there to reach it - good problem solving! even if it makes it hard to read the paper....

gingeme · 03/01/2011 11:55

Clever H Smile
I had a look at that site madmouse. DH said it looks promising Smile I'll have a proper read tonight when the boys are in bed and see what I can do thats feasable. I said to DH when I pass and start work I could earn as much if not more than him and we would both be round for the boys too. It would mean him moving his shifts around a bit but thats not too bad.
Simpson is M 3 or 13! Shock at a guest list.
DH is an undergorund driver and is going to book a simulater day for George and the other boys where they can go on the sim machine that the drivers do their training on. Apparantly its quite popular with schools and playgroups but cause its his birthday he'll get it all to himself Smile

Fillybuster · 03/01/2011 17:52

Sorry, fell off the list....Blush

Happy new year, all - wishing all of you a happy, fluffy, exciting, successful and very lovely 2011

Off to catch up....

AngeChica · 03/01/2011 21:16

Well ladies I just wanted to post about A saying goodbye to his dummy once and for all and how easy it has been - I'm so shocked. I know it was quite old to still have one Blushbut he just seemed to have this really deep unshakeable attachment to it, which was a dual one with a little blankie thing he twiddles. On the first night we had 20 minutes of shouting that he "didn't want to be a big boy" and some fuss in the morning - but since then nothing!!! :). Now he has been potty trained for a few months, no more dummy and he is starting pre school tomorrow Shock. As my mum pointed out he is definitely not my baby any more now and this made me shed a tear or 2.

Gingeme, that sounds fab and I think you are in the ideal location as you will have a huge client market for your work across London.

I work for the NHS in education & training management & I thought my job was safe but after a new consultation white paper on education in the NHS this year I think there may be a lot of changes ahead. I'll keep my views to myself but am quite cross about it.

I just hope and pray 2011 will be the year I get to take some more maternity leave :(.

Whatever happens I will count my blessings that our little family is safe and well: as we were driving home from Suffolk after Christmas the bonnet flew up on our car at 70mph which was quite a terrifying experience. Luckily my DH was driving and got us to the hard shoulder safely but I was very shaken.

simpson · 03/01/2011 21:35

Bloody Hell ange that must have been terrifying Shock

Glad you are all ok though Smile

latrucha · 04/01/2011 21:57

Shock Ange. I'm glad you're alright.

Happy New Year everyone. I don't know if it's purely a mirage, but Sabela really seems to be a 'big girl' these days. She's talking a lot more very suddenly and I realise she has memeorised a lot of the songs we sing Smile. But most of all .....

big drum roll ...

I think we are finally over the eating problems - by which I mean she will try things and sometimes eat lots of them (roast chicken / steak recently) and sometimes not (stew - yuk apparently). And Jose and I ahve stopped hovering, stressing and generally being horrid about food too.

Yesterday, Sabela polished of three big slices of steak, a jacket potato and some peas while DH fed Danny mashed jacket potato from his plate and we talked about something that wasn't food and I truly believed I had hit family food nirvana. Happy mummy. It even meant I didn't blink when she said the stew today was yuk and hardly ate a thing. Smile

(oh, and DH has taken over the kiddies at night, just bringing D to me for two feeds and so far I feel like a new woman. Long may it continue! DH feels like something from the bottom of a shoe, but is happy I am happier) Smile

gingeme · 05/01/2011 10:51

OMG Ange glad your all ok.
Grin LaT what a breakthrough. Lets hope it lasts .
Well Davids back at school today and weve already been and bought all the food for Georges tea. Off to Ikea soon to buy a ne blind for our kitchen. We did have one but it got pulled down and the fixings broke. Still well have some lunch there so it will be a good trip.
DH got his hours for next week and it turns out he will be working Sunday which means he will miss Georges tea on Sunday Sad but on the plus side he can book Georges sim day for the Monday which is his actual birthday Smile
Right better go Ikea beckons.

latrucha · 05/01/2011 12:02

That train sim sounds amazing Ginge. What a lucky boy. I'd love to live near an IKEA. I'm sure DH and I would be there every 5 mins.

Fillybuster · 05/01/2011 14:16

OK, I've sort of caught up. Ish. Tamara is home ill and Mia is being the nightmare-limpet-not-sitting-or-moving-bab-from-hell most of the time, unless I am holding her (in which case she is utterly lovely) or asleep (which thankfully she still does well).

Anyway....

Happy New Year everyone! I can't believe our babies are turning 3....how on earth did this happen???! Shock

Tamara is having a small joint party, just for her nursery class (about 10 kids in her class) on 28th at our house straight after nursery (around 12.30), so I'm just going to do pasta and veg, then cake and we've got someone coming to do some singing for an hour. Hopefully the mess won't be too bad....

Ideas for birthday presents would be much appreciated....she has asked for 'games' but there's not much A doesn't already have (and share) although she'd like her own. And I bought her the pink rock star guitar from elc in the sales.

Gingeme, I had a post-natal doula when A was born....she didn't come to the birth but helped with everything after for 6 weeks. She was my mums cousin and I was one of her case studies for her qualification, so it was free, but it honestly was the best thing ever and I think she saved our sanity!! She qualified through the doula.org.uk main organisation and I think there are details on the website MM gave you. You would be brilliant - go for it!!

Ange - you brought a lump to my throat with your description of A being a big boy! T likes being in the middle of 3 as she enjoys telling me that she is "big and little" :)

LaT - amazing news on the food breakthrough with S :) :) :) Way to go!!!

All a bit manic here - we've got an au pair arriving from Hungary on 16th jan so are frantically trying to clear our spare room and get used to the idea of having someone else living in our house Hmm I've got quite mixed feelings about it, but with 3 under 5 and still bfing, and no DH about during the week, I really do need a hand in the mornings and evenings and this is the only affordable option.....

On the plus side, my breadmaker just arrived! GrinGrin I'm soooo excited! Although I now have to find a way to lose the remaining 9lbs of baby weight without getting distracted by fresh bread....

latrucha · 07/01/2011 20:02

Filly - have you got this or this?

All thing medical a hit here, including the mini baby born ambulance which is in the sale at argos.

simpson · 07/01/2011 23:11

I have booked M's birthday party today for the 29th (Mcdonalds for 17 kids Shock)

Totally cocked up M's much needed appt with pead dietician yesterday. I knew appt was on 6th Jan (was cancelled from 12th Dec due to chckenpox) so the day before I look at letter pinned on my notice board to check time.

Only when I get to hosp do i foind out that she had 2 appts for the same day Hmm Shock A normal pead appt (which she has every 3mths) and her allergy testing (which me missed Angry)

sooo we now have to wait till March Angry I am so pissed off with myself, oh well....

simpson · 07/01/2011 23:11

Ooops appt was with pead allergist not dietician Blush

gingeme · 08/01/2011 09:46

Morning all.
Oh what a nuisance Simpson Angry
Hi filly. Great catch up Smile
We are going to get Georges cake today. He is having a dinosaur party tomorrow. Just 9 children which is handy as DH will be at work Sad so I should be able to cope with that many on my own. The cake is one of those from Asda which you get a picture printed on. A dinosaur pic ofcourse.
Is anybodys lo's dry completely?
Does anyone fancy a post birthday meet up in February? DH has 2 weeks off 5th-19th to be exact. Anyone?
