Just need to report!! DS1 has been offered a school place at the school we wanted! I really need a drink now

JuicyLips · 17/07/2010 13:55

yay! well done Fruit thats such good news. glad you managed to get a place there.

Pavlov · 17/07/2010 14:35

Oh fruit you must be so relieved and happy. That is brilliant news. Was that because he moved up the waiting list, or because you appealed?

helips · 18/07/2010 12:39

fruit yay! Well done to ds1, you must be so pleased

pav good luck with work, is it tomorrow you start? Millie fell out of bed the other night, I felt dreadful as I had fed her in bed and then I fell asleep and the next thing I knew there was a thud and a wail. The floor is wooden so I was really worried but she is fine although unlike your cub it has not incouraged her crawling!

Had a good day today. Went for brunch with a work collegue of dh's, his wife and 2 kids. In Singapore the hotels make a big thing of Sunday brunch and often have face painting and other activities for the kids. It was great and the food was yummy, also it was nice to meet some new people! We went shopping afterwards, the shopping is fab here, and then I went to the gym so I am now going to settle down with a glass of wine and watch Glee (only just got into it!)

Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend too...

JuicyLips · 18/07/2010 14:24

that sounds lovely helips, glad you are enjoying yourself there.

I was having a nice weekend until a few hrs ago when mil fed dd a doughnut. and

Fruitpastels · 18/07/2010 20:01

Juicy I'm sure that didn't go down too well. Why do grandparents feel the need to pump sugar into their grandchildren?!! We have the same issue with MIL and DS1.

Pav It was down to luck with the school waiting list. I'm still thinking that tomorrow it will go horribly wrong and it was an awful mistake.

Helips Sounds wonderful. How long is your DH posted in Singapore for?

ursigurke · 18/07/2010 21:11

Pavlov, great to see you back. It's quite a dangerous period in our babies life, isn't it. Paula had already a couple of accidents where she would hit her head, and sometimes even right next to me. I feel bad for not being able to protect her better.
Our routine is:
Paula wakes up between 5 and 6
6/6.30 bf
9 half an hour nap
9.30 bf
1200 lunch (vegetables, potato, meat)
3.00 snack (fruit puree with babyrice or any kind of porridge)
5.30 dinner (porridge mixed with water, a bit of fruit for the taste and full bf afterwards)
7.00 bf and sleeping
she wakes up several times at night and I will feed her once which is usually between 3 and 4.

I guess I could drop that night feed as she istn't too hungry in the morning but I think then she would wake up even more often during the early hours and definitely be up for the day early. So I'm keeping it this way until things seem to improve anyway.

fruit, glad to hear about the school!

helips, I'm sure you will feel at home very soon, especially if you can already meet other people. Please keep as updated.

My parents have been here over the weekend, it was really nice, Paula was sooo cute, enjoyed all the attention, was constantly smiling, waving, clapping, chatting.... and eating! I finally went back to rather smooth purees as she seems to like them more. Maybe I changed too quickly from puree to mash. But on the other side she is also finally biting into those vegetable sticks I usually offer her, so she seems to get the idea of fingerfood as well.

JuicyLips · 18/07/2010 21:11

it was annoying as dh had said no and she went ahead and did it anyway!!

ursigurke · 18/07/2010 21:14

juicy, that is really annoying
She has to respect your rules! How did you react?

Pavlov · 18/07/2010 21:36

MILs are a pain aren't they?! I just let mine do as she pleases tbh, but then, she lives in USA so if she wants to feed the children crap while here, fine by me as she gets to see them so little that the food I won't normally want them to have won't do that much harm in the grand scheme of life (unless it is dangerous, allergy etc). However, if she lived closer and did it regularly, I would definitely not be impressed and have to tackle that. Apart from coca cola. If she or anyone feeds that stuff to my children, even once, they get their heads on a plate. Even DH, who lets DD sip it from his glass/bottle from time to time. grrrr.

scarlotti · 18/07/2010 21:51

Hi all

Am back from our hols and have finally managed to catch up on all your news!!
Menorca was lovely, Ioan handled the heat and change in scenario well so a good time had by all.
Food wise it ended up being a good thing as I had to find stuff in the restaurant buffet to feed him. So after worrying what he would eat, I moved from pasta bows, to spag bol then right through to rice/pasta combos with fish/chicken etc. through it depending on what they had! Tonight for tea he had shepherd's pie so we're now pretty much on family meals.
Snacks were fruit as they had a lovely selection, and he now eats chunks of food and chews them up. Have to say, it's made my life so much easier as no pureeing, just a bit of mashing and making sure the food is quite soft.

We also now have a tooth!! One broke through whilst on hols and another is imminent. He claps his hands now too and seems so pleased with himself
Movement wise, we might just about to see some things start to happen. He's been sitting up for a good month or two now, but the last few days have seen him launch himself forward to reach something. He gets stuck and cries but I think soon he'll work out how to swing his legs around and start to move - whether it's forward or not though remains to be seen!!

Glad to hear everyone seems to be doing ok. helips great to hear the trip to Singapore went so well and you're starting to settle in there.
SirB hope the flat hunting goes ok, it's the right thing to be doing
Pav good to see you again

Hello to everyone else - sorry I can't remember all the news

Fruitpastels · 18/07/2010 22:01

Pav I thought DS1 had never drunk cola before. It came to my attention that MIL has been giving him sips from her glass of cola. MIL doesn't realise that DS1 will tell me most things, without me probing him for info! I haven't spoken to her about it yet. I'm waiting for my moment. I used to have it in the house, but now I'm bf I tend to only drink it when we're out. I do lay down ground rules about sweeties (and fizzy drinks!) as she visits each week. DS1 will bounce off the walls when he's eaten too many treats and a complete nightmare. Of course, she totally ignores me!

Fruitpastels · 18/07/2010 22:07

Welcome back Scarlotti Glad you all had a lovely time Are you back to work this week?

SirBoobAlot · 18/07/2010 22:57

< waves to everyone >

Scarlotti welcome back And yey for a tooth!

Fruit that is great news! Am so pleased for you all.

Juicy ugh! Grandparents! I hope you get her to understand that your rules are your rules and she needs to stick to that.

Pav hope work goes well.

Still no teeth here. Though he really has been a nightmare the past few nights so am hoping it will happen soon!

Fruitpastels · 19/07/2010 10:11

SB How did the flat hunting go?

Pav Good luck today!

C chomped on my nipple this morning. He started tugging yesterday and I knew he would take a bite at some point. He was so upset when I yelped in pain and I felt terrible. I'm hoping the first tooth is on it's way.

Hope you all have a good day

JuicyLips · 19/07/2010 12:05

Ursi We'd already had a talk with her just a bit before as dd and ds had stayed over her house on the friday and on the sat they brought them back saying that she'd only given her one weetabix for breakfast and not given her milk as she didnt want her to get fat, so had talked to her about this as was concerned as dd usually has two weetabix (which she could have been confused about.) but the milk not being given and the fat comment really got to me. so I was already miffed so when she got the doughnuts out we said no, we dont want her to have food issues, she's eating really well with us, plus sugary things like that really arent good for babies. and she just poo-pooed it, took dd off of dh and put her in her chair and gave her the doughnut. I stared in disbelief. am glad that dd didnt seem very enthusiastic about it but was fuming.

JuicyLips · 19/07/2010 12:07

thats supposed to be given her her Bottle of milk rather than milk on the weetabix, sorry read it back after and realised thats what it looked like!

helips · 19/07/2010 14:21

juicy I can't believe your mil thought it was a good idea to feed dd a donut! I would be livid if mine did that! Although saying that my in-laws love giving ds as much chocolate and sweets as he can eat, as if it will make him love them more. When they come over he looks in nanny's handbag to see if she has sweets! Very annoying.

fruit Dh has a 2 year contract with a chance to extend for a further year if we want. I feel your pain re the nipple chomping, Millie did the same the other day, ouchy!

scarlotti Glad you had a lovely time on holiday. Sounds like the food there has been an eye opener for Ioan and that he loves his food! Well done on the tooth, he'll be needing it by the sounds of things!

Had a bad day today, dh back at work and I went out with the kids, all was fine until I came home and got stuck outside the apartment. Luckily a neighbour found me in tears and helped, poor ds was comforting me by rubbing my back and kissing me and saying 'it's alright mummy' bless him! Millie had a terrible nights sleep the night before so I am really tired and she has been grumpy and clingy all day. Both kids have had tantrums several times today, ds drew on the walls and I have had enough. Just really want to be home with my family and friends, miss them all dreadfully

tigger32 · 19/07/2010 16:23

Just flying by to say Hi! Will call back later for a catch up.

Hen is now pulling himself up to standing I'm not used to this, ds1 just sat still until he was 9 months old!

Pavlov · 19/07/2010 20:03

tigger i know how you feel, DS is doing the same! Today, he has learnt to stand from sitting, all on his own, he did it completely for the first time about 3 hours ago, and now, he won't stop, he stood on a box in DDs room, laughing his head off, then in his cot, up he stood, so down that came, and then he kept standing, plonking himself down on his bottom and doing it all over again.

Right now, he is on the bed pulling himself up using a packet of nappies, crawling over the bed, chattering away and NOT SLEEPING not even a little incy bit tired. Had some milk, like it is a snack bar, puling my top down, the off again

longwayaway · 19/07/2010 20:35

Hi all! Taking a break from the moving madness to check in.

scarlotti sounds like a lovely holiday! Congrats on the new tooth!

Fruit excellent news about the school place for DS, sounds like you won the lottery!

Juicy can't believe your MIL. I'd be too.

Pav how did work go?

tigger How frightening/exciting! Maeve is just managing sitting these days, still acts like it's a national emergency when she accidentally ends up on her tummy! Standing and walking seem like they're still a ways off.

We spent our first night at the new place last night, everyone slept through the night Now - supposed to be cleaning the old place but M keeps spitting up on the carpet

Ninjacat · 19/07/2010 20:56

Oh Fruit good news on the school!!!!

Being run ragged now. Crawling, standing, climbing and tooth number two just cut through.

Arghhhhh.

Have just bought a giant play pen. Hope it gets here soon as dp is off to Secret Garden to work this week.

scarlotti · 19/07/2010 21:14

Fruit yes, back at work today and only have Thurs off this week Great news about the school

Juicy very at your mil too!

helips sorry to hear about your day. Take it one day at a time out there, it's bound to be strange and lonely a little at first. We're only on the end of the internet though so keep that in mind.

Pav yay for bear cub and his standing, although not so yay for you

Pavlov · 19/07/2010 22:16

longwayaway work was good thank you for asking! only did 9-12:30pm, and had to go to get a takeout coffee at 10am, as had no computer to use, had to get (or get the it bloke to get me) keyboard and mouse, and reset all my passwords. Spent the rest of the morning trying to find a key for my desk and gossiping networking with colleagues , start as I mean to go on eh

Pavlov · 19/07/2010 22:18

Oh but bear cub was distraught by the time DH came to get me at 12:30pm, he had woken from his nap and wanted me and was very upset indeed. He clung to me like a koala clings to a tree. That is what he reminded me of. I did not feel too awful leaving him, until i picked him up afterwards and I did not want to put him back in his car seat!
