Babba don't think anyone is actually crawling yet, just lots of movement but that didn't fit!!

Ioan is sitting properly unaided!! Having said that though, he makes no effort to roll or move in any way, shape or form!! Think he's going to take after me - I sat and made no effort to move, and didn't walk until I was 18 months

OP posts:
BabbatheHun · 27/05/2010 21:19

Oh i read and reread and got all worried! a baby will be crawling by the end of this thread though i am sure! Perhaps not bear cub. He too can sit unaided, only recently and is very proud of himself, he can pull himself into sitting from the car seat or rocker, but while he can roll, he is not that bothered. He can get into the crawling position, but is just as happy to sit there and play with his toes or put both arms out and look at them like 'wow, they are mine, and i am balancing with them'

SirBoobAlot · 27/05/2010 21:28

Bryn isn't a fan of this sitting unaided lark When I sit him up he can stay there - until something catches his attention elsewhere and he turns his head and falls. Tis quite funny though... He can roll, and does roll (or turn himself around like he's breakdancing, which is hilarious ) to get to something.

I'm being a bit PFB by being concerned he's not doing what they're "supposed" to do at six months, aren't I? He has no interest in crawling. Doesn't want to sit up. Loves standing though, and never shuts up is very chatty.

BabbatheHun · 27/05/2010 21:32

sirboob oh don't worry about the 'milestones' they are so broad, some babies do one thing, others do another. Some babies bypass crawling altogether, and just sit, sit, sit, then oh they can walk! especially if they like standing bear cub loves standing. He likes to 'dance' on my knees while I hold his hands. He is a quiet little boy though. Giggles and laughs, and chats, but mostly chats in the afternoon. He is more of an 'observer' he quietly sits there smiling or with mouth open in a grin, but just watching. Mainly watching his sister. He adores her. She gets more attention than we do

mainly marking my place before leaving.
well Paula is almost crawling. She is on all 4, then she lifts hand Nr1, places it somewhere in front of her, lifts hand Nr2, places it somewhere else, and then somehow pulls the rest of her body foreward, sometimes with lifting the legs and lots of fidgeting. So she moves on all 4 and goes quite far if I place her box of baby lego far enough from her. [proud emoticon]. She is unable to do anything similar to sitting though.

Ok, I really need to get some sleep as we will leave early. I'll try to follow from Austria.

SirBoobAlot · 27/05/2010 21:36

Oh bless him Babba! Bryn is a bit like that with my brother. He worships his Uncle Wigs already (for the record my parents were not actually cruel enough to name my brother Wigs. Its his nickname!). Re; straight to walking. My mum recently gave me a lecture about how I shouldn't let him do it as its bad for their co-ordination in later life So am now paranoid that by allowing him to stand up when he wants to (which is pretty often, and he's very strong), I am damaging him for further on down the line!

BabbatheHun · 27/05/2010 21:40

you mean let him stand while you hold him? i would be bloody impressed if you just let him stand, with no support at this age . I am not entirely sure that babies who start to walk without crawling do it because they are 'encouraged' to, rather that is they way they learn to walk. Not all babies crawl first, I am sure it is not a taught thing.

BabbatheHun · 27/05/2010 21:42

Bear cub won't sleep. He goes off. Then he wakes crying. or rather wimpering now do i medicate him? I am not entirely convinced he is in pain, i think it might be that he just wants to sleep on me as he is being a bit clingy today the last week. Not sure if I should just have him in with me, as he is in cot. I need to break it somehow, as I am exhausted, but not if he is in pain. Oh I just can't tell any more.

SirBoobAlot · 27/05/2010 21:46

He can actually hold himself up without me holding him for about 10 seconds. He's rather short but his legs are strong And yes, am sure I have heard people say that they / their babies walked then crawled.

I hope you get some sleep, Babba

Fruitpastels · 27/05/2010 21:48

sirboob I agree with babba. Don't worry . Bryn sounds like he's doing really well. C doesn't stand on my lap and hasn't mastered the sitting unaided yet. I'm in no rush for C to crawl (that's when the real work begins!) DS1 didn't crawl for long and started walking just before he turned 1.

scarlotti · 27/05/2010 21:54

All babies do things at different times and in different orders so no one way is right.
SirB your mum does talk some rot sometimes!! Bryn will do what he wants, when he wants. A HV told me once that if they aren't ready to stand, then they won't. And if they are, and their legs are strong enough, then they will!

Ioan can hold his weight on his legs but isn't interested in moving around. Fine by me as am in no rush for that at all - I like the fact he stays where I put him!

OP posts:
Fruitpastels · 27/05/2010 22:01

SirB he could be an early walker. I know a 7 month old who stands and is also a speedy crawler.

babba hope you get some sleep. Could be teething if he's not himself. A dose of calpol won't hurt if you sense he's under the weather.

Fruitpastels · 27/05/2010 22:06

I have learnt with my second child to ignore most of what my family try to advise me on child rearing.

scarlotti · 27/05/2010 22:17

Fruit same here, and it's allowing me to enjoy it all much more

Fingers crossed for a decent night here, so far the evening has been back to normal and he's slept ok. Of course, now I've jinxed it and I'll be up all night

I've still got our original list of arrivals(have a shocking memory so kept it so I could refresh my memory from time to time) but it'll be interesting to see who is still with us.

Ethan can roll but I think he only does it because he doesn't like being on his tum. When on his back he just waves his legs and arms around so I don't think he's worked out that he's capable of moving independently yet.

DP had Ethan on his lap tonight while I was putting out pizza for dinner. I placed DP's plate on the coffee table and said "good luck eating that with a baby on your lap". He said "It'll be fine, watch this" and picked up his plate. I watched in horror as a little hand promptly crept around the edge of the plate and gripped the pizza. He definitely burned his fingers as he froze for a minute then screamed so we then had to endure the torture of holding his hand in ice cold water... awful. DP feels very guilty. We usually put Ethan in his high chair at mealtimes with finger food but we'd tried spoon fed mashed banana for dinner (don't know what possessed us, it was his first spoon fed meal!) so he was fed before we had our dinner. I think we'll save spoonfed meals for breakfast and finger foods for lunch and dinner so that he will be in his high chair eating instead of near our plates of hot food. Sigh...

sirboob for about two months now, if you hold Ethan's hands to pull him up to sitting from lying down he immediately plants his feet and stands up. He's quite stable on his feet but I've heard these stories about them not being strong enough for standing yet. Makes you doubt yourself, doesn't it? I'm sure at this stage it's absolutely fine.

Still having problems with dairy here, the introduction of formula this week hasn't gone particularly well although I tried 3oz of formula twice today and he coped fairly well with it. Maybe he just needs to be gradually introduced to it. Those of you doing combined feeding now, how much do you give in a bottle and when during the day?

Oh and does anyone's babies have eczema? We went to the GP a while ago after I'd spoken to the health visitor about Ethan's dry skin and a rash round his mouth which never goes away. The GP gave us emollient for the bath and a moisturising cream and said the rash on his face is probably an eczema-like reaction to saliva. He now has a couple of patches, one behind a knee and another at the back of his armpit, which go from being very dry to being bright red. Not sure whether it's ok to persevere with the emollient in the bath and the moisturising cream or should I go back to the GP? Can they do much else?

DontWorryBaby · 27/05/2010 22:49

Sorry the grammar in that post is shocking! DO anyone's babies...

Rosa stands too. She freakishly strong.

Had my haircut today, do you like?

I took in pictures of Alexa Chung and January Jones (Betty from Mad Men) and for once, I actually really like what they did Not that I now look like either of them, but I like it. Will see if it lasts once I have washed it and done it m'self...

I am going to this wedding this weekend see, lots of uni people, Rosa not invited [shock - don't worry, am over it] and I want to look FABulous and not mummylike. Oh dear, have just heard that in my head and had a pang of guilt and love for Roo. Of course I am proud of being a mummy and I want everyone to know it but this weekend I want to fit in with the young, free and just-marrieds. Bride is DHs old flatmate from uni - a neurosurgeon now - and the crowd that are going are very...glamorous sounds wrong but I can't think of what's right.

Bloody hell, I sound like a right loser now but does anyone know what I mean? I hope so.

Off to bed beofre I embarrass myself further

Oh and you can tell from the new addition to the list who I am - thought I'd try a little name change of my own, which has become very apt, considering the content of the post.
