WMDO - how your head is feeling, all swimmy and spinny and stuff... I was like that on Wednesday. Tummy felt odd but my head wasn't mine IYKWIM! Spent most of the day sleeping. when I tried to something I felt like I was going to faint. Was absolutely fine the next day though .

Olivia just had more of the pureed banana om nom nom she said!! In fact, she went into a temper tantrum and screamed when I thought she'd had enough and had better have her bottle!!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 09/05/2010 13:17

Olivia slept through last night from 7.30pm to 5.45am, with a small dream feed at 11 (didn't wake and only took 2-1/2 oz).

Absolute result for us. I have to say that since we've been introducing her to baby rice, banana etc., she truly is a different baby. So happy and content and now sleeping beautifully. She just can't take lots of milk because of the reflux but the "solids" are filling her up more. Hoo bloody rah!

alibobins · 09/05/2010 16:11

can't how many times a day are you feeding Olivia solids?
Was going to give Jacob some today but he's still not well definatly think he's ready just waiting for him to be well.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 09/05/2010 17:35

Well I was feeding her some baby rice for one week at teatime-ish. Then on Friday I picked it up and gave her some pureed banana with her milk at lunchtime, plus baby rice at tea-time. All with her milk. So that's now a few days of twice per day which I think made her sleep through last night. Coincidence? Don't think so.

So have now bought today, some Cow & Gate banana/strawberry cereal which you add normal milk to and will, in a few days, start her on that at breakfast time.

Going to have a great cook-up in the next few days of fruit purees, vegetable purees etc and get them frozen to see me through the next month.

She absolutely loves this part of her feed, it's quite incredible to see the sudden change in her.

I'm not advocating this - or saying it's going to work for every baby btw... we all know our babies best. It's just this is particularly working well for Olivia. She has been tiny from the start and clearly cannot handle too much liquid in her little stomach. She's also on a growth spurt so all in all, I think the "solids" if you can call baby rice and banana puree that, is really helping.

alibobins · 09/05/2010 20:19

Is she on nutramigen still are you avoiding all dairy? Do you give it after her feed or before it?
Sorry for all the questions it just seems such a long time since I weaned.
I really hope it has the same effect on Jacob

How's it going with Percy.

flyingma · 09/05/2010 21:06

lottie!!!! I thought eBay was supposed to save me money... I've just spent the last week bidding on stuff sized 3-6 months for summer and spent quite a bit!!

That said, this is the first size for which I've had to buy most of the clothes so I guess I didn't quite realise how much these kids cost! Also we're planning to go away for a week in summer so need a week worth of clothes and back up clothes before I can get back to laundry. [grasping at straws icon]

DS has eczema on his face and the Doc said to use the aquaeous cream on it as plain ole olive oil got rubbed off really quickly onto his bedsheets. Problem is that it take a good 5-10 mins at least to get his face properly moisturised. In the morning I do it during his feed which is fine coz he is distracted drinking anyway.

But in the evenings, he usually has a bottle then a bath then bed. The past few days we've had lots of kicking, screaming and crying coz he is exhausted and wants to sleep but the evil mummy is rubbing all that gunk into his face. WWYD? Should I change bedtime routine and bathe him before his final bottle... or does anyone else have any ideas? He normally accepts the dummy round this time but he gets properly worked up at this and even the dummy does not work. Can't really moisturise before the bath as we practice his breath holding (for swimming) in the tub thereby wetting his face.

flyingma · 09/05/2010 21:09

Forgot to say WD to CTFN and Olivia! May the rest of us find weaning as successfully as that. Just spoke to a friend who's given up trying to wean her 18-month old. She wants to stop breastfeeding but can't as she can't get her daughter to wean.

mama2moo · 09/05/2010 21:58

I cant wait to wean babymoo! Its amazing that they know what to do with the spoon and food IYSWIM! I remember cooking up loads of veg for dd1 and then by the time I had blended it there wasnt much there!!

Babymoo is still sleeping through. Although Im a bit worried she is sleeping too much. She sleeps more then she is awake now.

Anyone else starting to think about stopping breast feeding? I thought I would do it for 3 months and then stop - Babymoo is 13 weeks old now and I cant bear the thought of stopping!

Right, due to lack of Thyroid , I find it so hard to retain information at the mo. I have stopped at flyingma

WTF

Did you mean that this 18 month still isn't taking solids and is refusing to give up BF

Thump, WMDO hits the floor

Olivia will do this, won't she, she will...

My fussy little madam wouldn't take ready made formula but would take powdered BUT only at a very very particular temperture. I then thought, sod this it's easier to BF.

Yesterday we got ready to give her her first spoonful of baby rice in a bid to ease reflux.

WMDO household was all excited.
I was one step ahead of her....I knew she would be a pain if the milk wasn't just so so I expressed breast milk, warmed it a little, made sure it was exactly 1 teaspoon to 15 mls.
DH was standing by with video camera, DS was perched eagerly on chair hoping that this spoonful of rice was going to make her grow instantly and run into the garden to play football with him.

We introduced nrly 5 month old Olivia and announced the first taste of solids to the camera >it was like a 1970's Fairy advert.

Olivia spat it across the room at amazing force.

Cue Fairy advert smiles for camera, another spoonful

Spit

another

spit

I then said through gritted teeth "Oh well, we will try next week you are obviously not ready"

Camera went off so I proceeded to force feed her. She was having none of this alien substance in her mouth.

I so know she will be a pain with food. I don't think it's just a not ready thing, I think it's an Olivia thing

DS will try anything. He was wolfing scallops in chilli and corriander last night.
He was great to wean, nothing was refused although he isn't a big eater which is fine.

CTFN your Olivia sounds like she will be a dream. congrats on the nights sleep, whoo hoo!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 10/05/2010 10:11

WMDO - you make me scream with laughter reading your posts!

Alibobbins - yes, she's still on Nutramigen and I will avoid dairy until she is a year old. Thing is though, I really haven't had to give her any of the meds since she's been exclusively on Nutramigen ie after I had mixed the old milk and new. I don't bother with the Domperidone for sickness as it's manageable and I found it absolutely knocked her out.

anyway, she's now winging as wants to sleep and dummy has obviously fallen out!

Percy also whining....

whensmydayoff · 10/05/2010 10:32

london I can imagine the granite incident > hugs .

It is so easily done though.
I left Olivia right at the very edge of the changing unit when I ran after DS to give him a row, nagged for a bit then returned, realised what could have happened as she always rolls side to side up there.

Then yesterday at a really busy festival for kids, I joined the huge line for a show while DH went to get tickets. I had Olivia in her buggy and DH said you keep DS here with you. APPARENTLY I said "ok" and told DS so stand with me, then I went into a daydream and DS wandered off. I completely forgot I was to watch him, thought he was with DH .

Luckily DS wandered past DH and he grabbed him. I bet your now thinking, wow, that WMDO is a propper fanny and my incident looks almost clever now!

Glad Juliet is ok and I b

flyingma · 10/05/2010 10:39

lottie Ooo how's the BLW book? I know re the baby clothes - there's a Pumpkin Patch outlet near us which is sooooo dangerous. Have to say tho, baby girls' clothes are so much more tempting... and you have 2!!

WMDO She's not just on the breast as the mum's gone back to work. She gives her the breast when she can but otherwise the girl takes formula from a bottle. LOL at your attempts at weaning... I hope it gets better tho my mum always says that if you have 2, you're going to get one of type!

Really annoyed at myself for crying off the last round of NCT Nearly New sales as it was raining. Been hunting on eBay for some of those lovely wooden ELC toys as DS has enough things that are made of plastic which light up and play music... but there are none available locally for a while now. Am I being paranoid by thinking that if all of DS' toys did something interesting that in time to come he would be harder to keep amused? Would he therefore - as per my theory - be better off playing with simple toys now so that he learns to keep himself amused?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 10/05/2010 10:52

Flyingma - well that has just made me feel awful re the toys! Poor little Olivia has barely anything. She sits in a second hand chair with a gym thing over the top that scrunches and is colourful and every now and then I put her on a mat again with colourful things hanging over top to keep her amused. That's about it I'm afraid. Oh and a soft rattle thingy that she chews and a teething toy. I do sometimes think she must be bored but she can't really play with much just yet. She does seem most of the time to be happy watching us and the world go by.

alibobins · 10/05/2010 11:57

Jacob is happy to chew on his fingers

Took him to gp this morning and he's got a chest infection and a viral rash he does feel sorry for himself

I gave up on the domperidone too but he still has the omeprazole and gaviscon.

We only ever had one night of Jacob sleeping through this weekend he has been terrible just coughing and grizzling through the night.

Partyofseven · 10/05/2010 13:38

Hello all, its meeeeeeeee, no i haven't been kidnapped by aliens, just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day and once i get on here i'm on it all day so nothing gets done in casa party. just catching up on posts,

wmdo hope your ok, i'm sure olivia will be fine, i suppose none of us know how our children will turn out, we just have to be strong to deal with whatever life throws at us, x

ctfn hi, great pics percy is lovely, makes me wants one, but dh tninks 5 kids, 2 cats, 2 rabbits and fish are enough for one woman.

ali sorry to hear jacobs not been well, hope hes better soon.

froach hows the baby making going??? hope all is well

lottie hope juliet is ok after her tumble, i keep leaving erin on the bed and stuff and i know i'm going to hear that dreaded noise when she suprises mee by jumping for the first time.

Waves to all mummies and babies, sorry if ive missed any thing important, but after reading i forget who said what, brainless.

Update: I'll just claim the trophy for most gorgeous baby ever , still sleeping through till about 8am from 9pm, she has 7oz in a bottle 4 times a day, but she won't take any more milk and seems to get hungry before she due, so she is 16wks next week, and have baby rice at the ready, did try her with a bit of baby pudding and she smacked her chops all over would definately have taken more. I thinks shes ready.

Not weighed my huge fat body as i know i have put wieght back on, due to good living and enjoying a drink or 5.

No babyparty no6 yet , not for the want of trying though, dh thinks his birthdays and christmases have all come at once, red friend due friday so fingers crossed and i'll keep you posted.

[bad mummy emotion] mummy party missed erins appointment for her jabs last tuesday and lost my rag with the receptionist so can't have 2nd lot until nest tuesday 16wks. poo.

Hope everyone is ok and i promise to try and keep up.

jardins · 10/05/2010 14:16

A big cheery hello to all of you. I am marking my place here and feel sorry I've not been in touch but my little family of five is keeping me VERY busy. I have however read all your posts. My heart goes out to you WMDO: it is so unpleasant when something goes wrong with us physically BUT I'm sure it will all sort itself out. Give it a little time as it sounds as if this could have been a fairly longterm condition; am I wrong?

LL Horrid feeling when a LO has there first fall due to our risk taking but I have yet to meet a mother who hasn't had that kind of experience. It's amazing how resiliant babies are, thank goodness!

We have had a lovely weekend. On Saturday we went to meet our future kitten for the second time. Yep, we should be having her with us in a couple of weeks time when she is six weeks old. Yesterday our DS had his third baptism ceremony. It was really touching. The final ceremony will be the big day when he gets done with his baby sister on August 8th.

I have been struggling with anemia and have felt so wiped out and low . I think the iron tablets are beginning to take effect. Friday evening was the worst as I felt nauseous and dizzy with fatigue. I do feel better now though.

I hate not feeling on top form when I have the LOs to enjoy and take care of.

Fraochsmum · 10/05/2010 15:16

Afternoon!

Hope you feel better soon jardins, I've never had anemia but am sure it must be awful with so many things to deal with.

No more babies made yet party although we are having much fun trying I thought I was getting my monthly friend last week (17 weeks), but the bleed didn't come to anything although I had some cramping. I am still feeding exclusively so really don't know what to expect.
On the weaning side of things, I would like to continue to 6 months if possible. 18 months sounds like a nightmare though!
Cara got her last jabs this morning where she screamed the surgery down. I gave her some kids paracetamol but she seems fine now. Since her teeth popped through last week she has been a wee grumpy bum - I too thought my angel had been replaced with another child! She has woken every night for a feed, but won't settle afterwards. Beforehand I would turn out the light and hear nothing else from her, but now she takes ages to get back to sleep - this morning was up for 2 hours
Anyhoo, we are getting a pro photo taken at 4 so better get ready - poor wee pudding has a bit of a rash from the teeth tho...

jardins · 10/05/2010 16:49

Lovely to hear from you Fraochsmum. It's so exciting that you're trying for another baby! Don't worry about your little Cara changing into a grump; it's just a phase and it'll pass very soon!

whensmydayoff · 10/05/2010 19:30

OMG to party and fraoch. I just can't imagine it, any of it. Jiggy included, ha!

Im totally impressed by party. How do you do it?

Remind me what ages they all are?
You must be one of those mums im jealous of. Everything in their stride, nothing a bother, energy to rival an athlete and never worry too much about anything. Have I got it or am I all wrong?

I worry worry worry way too much even to go through with a third PG I think.
After hearing ive got underactive thyroid along with all the PG problems ive had (and people go through way more) It was like someone was screaming - don't do it, your knackered you old trout!

Tried again to feed Olivia baby rice, this time with formula and she did the same.
However, I passed her a steamed carrot at tea time just for fun to see what she'd do and she rammed it in her gob.
I flew from my chair and grabbed it off her!! She's not quite 5 months so thought she might choke.

I don't fancy BLW but Olivia must have read the book and decided that's for her!

whensmydayoff · 10/05/2010 19:32

My blush face wasn't for the formula, it was for me trying the very next night and my lack of patience!

Partyofseven · 10/05/2010 21:16

hi when

the children are ds17 dd12 dd7 dd6 and dd15wks. I am a bit obsessive with people thinking i can't cope so i just do everything for everyone, dont get me wrong my house gets messy my ironing pile gets worked on slowly, but all humans and animals are fed and watered when needed, so i think we do ok. i'm not really a worrier, not about money, space to put these children nothing, i do think that if you love them lots and have lots of fun thats more important than your own bedroom etc. and if the want designer stuff or stuff that cost a lot they have to wait until christmas/birthdays, but they know they can't just have whatever they want.

i am just enjoying my baby sooooo much, and i don't remember worrying as much when pg with dd4 because i had dd3 14mths old so i was just busy all the time.

I am with you on the knackered old trout issue though, i really think i need a hip replacement, but i am convinced i will push my luck and they will send me a naughty one that doesn't sleep/eat. lol

I also tried Erin with a spoon of baby rice at teatime, and she was like mmmmmmmm, she would have had more if i let her. not going to give it everynight though, maybe a couple of times this week and next and then increase it.

Have you started on medication yet?

Partyofseven · 11/05/2010 11:15

where is everyone today????

CantThinkofFunnyName · 11/05/2010 12:47

Doing real life stuff I think Party...

Newbeginning1 · 11/05/2010 13:28

ll - i hope you and the girls are ok and Juliet is ok after her fall. I was worried that you were at home buried under all your paper you need to file desperately trying to escape

ali - how is Jacob?

party and fraoch - i've not had any jiggy action since before DS was born (yes i will be a born again virgin!)not only because i'm not an attractive position to find a man but also the thought of it scares me so the talk of "fun" practising makes me shudder. I really need to get over it

wmdo - have you been back to the drs yet?

ctofn - how is Percy doing?

Sorry if ive missed anyone, i'm sure i'm getting dimmer day by day

I've managed to get Jack booked in for swimming lessons which only cost £40 rather than £120 so i'm hoping that tires him out so i can have a rest after swimming on those days. I also braved doing my dance exercise dvd today and once again i took on the role of Jacks father by doing some cracking dad dancing, it was hot!!!
