alibobins · 16/06/2010 10:38

mk we are waiting for a letter from hospital re appointment but they said it would be Tues or Weds. Dd seems much happier today she has gone on a school trip. She thought she could see loads of black flies but its just floaty bits in her eye

I am really worried I feel physically sick of the thought of her going blind she is my baby I am really finding it hard to pick myself up it just seems like there is no point my life is one big heartache I can't cope with anything else

Sorry to bring the thread down got no one else to turn to

CantThinkofFunnyName · 16/06/2010 12:25

Ali - could you call your consultant's secretary and ask if there is a support group or someone you could talk to about this?

mistletoekisses · 16/06/2010 12:51

Ali - you are not bringing the thread down, at all. If we cannot support you, who can? I think CTFN'S suggestion is really good. Failing that, is there a health thread on mnet somewhere? Sorry I cannot be more help.

mistletoekisses · 16/06/2010 12:52

Ali - have you tried starting a thread on here? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childrens_health

whensmydayoff · 16/06/2010 12:59

ali, what are the stats? As in, what are the chances of her actually going blind do you know?
Is it like 40% or 80% or is it just unknown?
Do other people have this condition and keep the sight in that eye?

alibobins · 16/06/2010 13:10

Don't think there is a percentage as such its something to do with the damage can't be reversed and her eyesight is really bad at the moment and don't think her left eye can loose anymore vision.

At the moment she has got patchy sight if I hold up 5 fingers she can only see 3 and bits of the tele are missing

From what I understand it is that it's the bodies immune system is attacking her eyes it's called uveitis usually there is an underlying cause like juvenile arthritis but they can't find the cause

Oh ali, please keep posting about it here it's what we're here for. It;'s horrible when you know your baby is il and you cannot fix them. DD lost some vision, had a sort of tunnel vision thing going on at one stage, she had damage to a particular area of her brain which resulted in loss of sight, and before they did tests we thought she might be completely blind. It caused some peripheral vision loss, so it cut off the edges iyswim. Anyway that's not at all relevant I know but I just wanted you to know I'm here virtually holding your hand.

I hope they can stop it in its tracks for her. If it continues to degenerate, don't despair, please. I may sound crazy but there is so much stem cell research going on and lots of authorised uses, I was talking to a friend the other day who is a doctor who is injecting stem cells into pancreases to cure diabetes.. anyway.. they can fix everything, to be honest with you. A time will come when stem cell therapy can cure your DD's vision and as she is so young she will benefit from it. I truly hope it won't be necessary, but there are other options that will become available in a worst case scenario x

mistletoekisses · 16/06/2010 18:10

Ali - any letter re. the appt? How is your DD this afternoon?

Crumpette - your posts are hilarious! Fair play to you retaining your sense of humour!

Ilovedolly - welcome to the thread! Sometimes it moves very quickly and a lot of us just come on here and share. Unless you ask a specific question, please don't be offended if we dont mention your post. I know I am struggling to pop on and post at the mo. So don't take it personally if we just post and run. p.s. make sure you come and join us on the new thread...think this one is nearly full.

Lottie - I think I would welcome any sort of help to take over at night. Nico is seriously going through a rough patch.

Thanks all to your advice and kind words (CTFN - through my tired haze, think you posted a very similar experience, thank you! Gave me hope). I moved to larger flow teats and they have helped Nico's milk intake heaps. He is also eating more solids (albeit erratically), so we are getting there.
Tonight is night 4 of cold turkey night feeds and controlled crying. Last night was tough - he woke quite a lot and then decided that 4am was playtime. . I am however prepared to ride it out and know that eventually we will come good. I think like the dummy, it may take 10-14 days, but this will all hopefully result in a better sleeping baby. The good news is that he is able to self settle from crying so once he realises it gets him nowhere, I am hoping he wakes and just decides to go back to sleep.

I have decided to go back to work two days a week in Sept, so need him to be sleeping better by then! Either that, or I'll let my mum have him the night before I go to work too!

Right - off to do bath/ bedtime. Will try and pop back and reply to all the other posts

alibobins · 16/06/2010 20:47

I've not had a letter yet no news is good news right.

Dd is okay we made some jewellary tonight that put her in a good mood. She has still got black spots ans a bit of pain so she's had some nurofen.

Mama2b5 · 16/06/2010 20:58

Newbeginning1 · 17/06/2010 09:35

Welcome ilovedolly

ctofn - how is Percy doing? I was thinking about him yesterday whilst i was putting my washing out, random i know!!

crumpette - whats happening with your not so DP? I hope you're ok as it's your friends funeral this week isnt it? xx

super/party - how did you get on at the MWs yesterday?

ali - i can only second what everyone else has said about not worrying about posting on here. We all want to know what is happening and to share the stress and anxiety with you and to try and help you through this. Have you had the appointment through yet and how was your DD this morning? On a separate point, check Jacob out with his tooth, i'm very impressed 9grin0

mama2b5 - at your day yesterday, it sounds so nice

I had a pretty shit day yesterday I went into work and it seems my manager that i was seeing is absorbing my role into a team of 4 he's put in place so when i go back my role will potentially be quite different. I'm sure he's trying to force my hand so i dont go back and we had a massive row yesterday about it. I just give in with it but then in the same way i enjoy working for my company and the benefits etc so im going to have to fight it.

What is everyone else up to? I'm going to do some painting with DS today and i'm going to the Bumps and Babies group to try and drum up some help for a teddy bears picnic fundraiser i'm wanting to organise.

superwoman25 · 17/06/2010 09:55

Morning all

Just a quickie, as we are off to gps fro Erins last lot of injections and then to work for some lunch.

Went to see mw. was a tad embarrassing sitting there with lots of ladies with big bumps and me with small bump, accompanied by 4mth old dd. mw came out, saw me and said are you for me, yes, oh how lovely!, till i went in and then she laughed. shes trying to convince me to have it at home so she can be at atleast one of my 6 births, will work on dh on that one, i did catagorically state THIS IS MY LAST ONE!, yeh ok she said.

Better go, gotta straighten my hair, dress dd, get her bag ready, all in half an hour, have lovely days speak later

thinking of your dd ali x

Newbeginning1 · 17/06/2010 10:00

ali - i've just had a quick look on the internet and here is a infomation/support group or maybe try here as they have trained counsellors and forums so maybe you might get some support from other families going through the same thing or those that are coming out the other side iyswim?

This charity is Nottingham based and they do specific activities for visually impaired kids and their families so it might be good for your DD to build up her own friends with similar conditions?

mama2moo · 17/06/2010 12:56

Hi everyone!

Sorry I have been so crap with this recently. It was dd1's 2nd birthday last week so that was mental!

Hello dolly

ali I have kind of caught up on your poor dd. I hope she is ok.

Who is superwoman?? Is that you Party??

Well, babymoo's tooth is amazing! She looks so cute. She is rolling from back to front and gets sooo frustrated that she cant do it the other way! She is on 3 bottles of formula a day now and I have a feeling that by the end of next week I will no longer be breast feeding her (a month earlier then I thought)

I am being naughty and doing a low carb diet and I think its effected my milk supply (I have lost a stone though) She gets enough from me but can wolf down a 7oz bottle in 5 minutes flat!!

Babymoo has another CO appointment tomorrow. Im not sure its necessary now and think that the woman enjoys seeing babymoo so much that she says she needs more!

Nothing else happening here.

I hope everyone is ok
