I rambled and did not say that I really don't see a problem with swinging him in his carseat if that gets him to sleep right now, one thing at a time. Have him sleeping through for a while, then once he has that sorted, then address how you get him to sleep. how long has he been sleeping through? are you happy you have that part sorted? If so, then maybe it is the right time to address the getting to sleep part, if not, then i would say get him to sleep however you can. Others might completely disagree with me and say you must address it now. I guess I try not to pile too much pressure on myself to get it all right at the same time. These are little babies who are learning so much, including how to sleep, and that takes a little time. Some people are really lucky that have babies who 'get it' right away, settle easily, sleep through (or they naturally have the right technique, not figured out which!!) and some people have babies who need a bit more guidance and in a couple of days he might get it completely.

Sorry, another ramble

Laugs · 02/04/2010 08:11

DWB Our sleep has gone backwards too. James and Ethan are just a few days apart. When I say he's sleeping 6 hours at night, that's only really the last 2 or 3 weeks. Last night he had 7 hours' sleep, but there were 3 feeds in between (and that's going down at 10.30pm). Zzzzz...

The thing is James does seem genuinely hungry, so I can't see any solution at the minute but to feed him. He's been having some 2-hour feeds in the day too, so I'm putting it down to a growth spurt. Or maybe just taking the easy option.

Laugs · 02/04/2010 08:11

Thanks Ninja, I will facebook you!

BeckyBendyLegs · 02/04/2010 08:42

This Little Baby we have that. DS1 got it in a bookstart package 5 years ago and DS2 and Toby both have loved / love it

I hope everyone is having a good, Good Friday. We watched The Life of Brian last night. The BEST film ever I reckon and I laughed out loud. DH fell asleep...

Toby's sleep is hit and miss. He woke at 2am last night but settled with his dummy after a while. I've started weaning and he does seem more settled generally during the day now, whether that is a consequence I don't know. Or it could be that his skin is a bit better now we've had stronger cream from the dermatologist. Or it could be his cranial oesteopathy treatment! Whatever, he's a happier baby at the moment so I'm happier too!

lemontop · 02/04/2010 10:03

That's good to hear BBL

scarlotti · 02/04/2010 12:57

Just a quick hello from me. Went to a friend's wedding yesterday which was lovely. All stayed in the hotel though in a family room, not so lovely with 5 of us in one room, so am now shattered! Planning to head to bed in a bit with Ioan and hopefully we'll both get a decent nap.

Fruitpastels · 02/04/2010 17:09

Well ladies, So much for me holding out the weaning until 6 months We're 5 months now. C has been making a huge amount of noise when he watches me eat, almost like a little temper tantrum. So I offered C a banana today, he took it and put straight in his mouth. He was drooling all over it and made the banana difficult to hold. So I held it for him and he was getting so excited at the taste. He didn't eat a huge amount of it, but I did try and take it away half way through and he got very upset with me and I gave it back. So, I kind of know he's ready for it, but maybe a couple more weeks he'll master holding the banana better. I'm not rushing this as it's quite a worry seeing him taking chunks. Goes against my instincts. I need to get the highchair sorted out!

scarlotti Glad you had a good day . Hope you got some sleep!

DontWorryBaby · 02/04/2010 17:56

fruit I've read somewhere that you can trim the banana skin leaving a bit free at the top so the baby can hold the banana without mashing it and get sone in his mouth. Maybe this would help avoid the banana being drooled all over as well.

pav I'm sure Ethan slept better and longer when I persevered with shushing him rather than putting him back on the boob for another feed. It's just so tempting when I'm tired and he won't settle. Will try again with the routine tonight and a big both sides feed then nothing. Even if we try to stick with it another week before reevaluating. He used to settle down well, this is definitely a step back caused by a combination of clocks changing, teething and us trying to instil a routine. Will persevere...

Bought my wedding dress today & bridesmaid dresses. Shame my dress won't be in til august, I want it now!!!

Fruitpastels · 02/04/2010 18:00

Good tip DWB thank you. Still reading my BLW book, last couple of chapters tonight,if I'm not already asleep. Having some terribe nights this week with 2 hourly feeding. Congrats on getting your dress! What type of dress have you gone for? How exciting

PavlovtheCat · 02/04/2010 19:04

Oh how exciting DWB what is your dress like? how about the bridesmaids dresses? what colour? how many will you have ? Its a long wait til you get your dress, i had to wait for several months. It was harder to have it and not be able to try it on after it was altered, i was so tempted .

I think they do go backwards and forwards with their routines and behaviours, these babies. Reuben used to be able to put himself to sleep in the rocker on his own, maybe a bit of foot rocking by me, but not now. Now he wants me to feed him, or else we go for a drive/stroll in the pushchair. The car is best as then he is in the carseat and then he sleeps for hours! I wonder if it is that they have become more aware, more of the things they do, like sleep becomes learnt rather than instinct?

Hope everyone has had a happy good friday. We went to a friends for chinese chicken noodle soup lunch and then a walk in some woods. It was raining but we all put waterproofs on and went anyway .

PavlovtheCat · 02/04/2010 19:06

fruit i am tempted to give Reuben some banana, I wont as he is only just 18wks but he spies our food and it was so easy to just hold it out to him when he was in my arms this morning Sounds like C is ready !

skorpion · 02/04/2010 20:02

Hi Lovely Ladies! Sorry, no time to read and reply to all for now, but just wanted to wish everybody a very happy Easter.

misssese · 02/04/2010 20:38

Pearl has started crawling!!!! Not proper on hands and knees but she is knees and elbows and has been pushing herself forward! Also sticking her bum in the air - she is putting in so much effort and grunting its so cute. I feel extremely proud!!

fruit glad cruz enjoyed his banana sounds like he will be eating in no time!

DWB how exciting on buying your dresses. How long did it take you to pick your wedding dress? Or did you just know that was the one?

I always put Pearl to sleep on the breast- is that bad? hehe

bbl Glad toby is doing a lot better!!How is your sleeping?

skorpion happy easter to you and everyone else!

Just finished BLW book and starting on the no cry sleep solution- Pearl isn't too bad to be honest and dwb when you were saying about the 15 hours out of 24 she defiantly does that! But she isnt sleeping completely through and there is always room to improve especially as i can't breastfeed her to sleep forever!!

DontWorryBaby · 02/04/2010 21:00

My dress and Bridesmaid dresses. I figure I can share with you guys... Hope it's not bad luck! The wedding dress I'll wear with the 'wrap', I don't really suit strapless as I'm pretty pale. Haven't selected colour of bridesmaid dresses as DP's tartan should be yellow which he doesn't want to wear so I'm waiting on him choosing what tartan to wear to make sure the colours don't clash.

DontWorryBaby · 02/04/2010 21:03

PS pav 2 bridesmaids, my old school friends. Dress should be ready for August. misssese That dress, or maybe my mum's reaction, gave me goosebumps. Tried another couple of shops after but nothing compared. It was the best shopping trip ever!!!

PavlovtheCat · 02/04/2010 21:08

WOW DWB that dress is gorgeous!, I prefer it with the wrap too.

Shhhhh both my children are asleep, without a fight. I am not sure what is going on, and I am not expecting it to last, we shall see what happens. But for now, at least, I am enjoying the peace and quiet, in fact I am going to send some photos to granny then I am going to sleep. Please send me lots of positive vibes for a lengthy snooze

DontWorryBaby · 02/04/2010 21:17

Good luck pav, I'm very jealous! I can't persuade one to sleep...

PavlovtheCat · 02/04/2010 21:41

DWB oh don't be jealous, not til the morning. It all went far too smoothly to last. Especially as DH is out and wont be back til late.

PavlovtheCat · 02/04/2010 21:47

while waiting for the photos to upload, anyone else still ridiculously hungry all the time? I had a huge bowl of cornflakes, one large banana and two slices of toast for breakfast, 3 currant buns, two huge bowls of home made chicken noodle soup for lunch, two more current buns, sausage and mash (veggie) with 3 sausages and baked beans (DD chose, DH gave her the choice of that or carrots and peas!) plus just under half a whole trifle (i would have eaten an entire half, except DD insisted on having some!), some biscuits, and I am now starving, so will go grab some peanut butter sarnies (note I said some plural!^). I find it a very desperate to eat feeling, i thought that would pass by now, i did not feel this hungry with DD

hobnob57 · 02/04/2010 22:05

DWB gorgeous dress. DH chose his granny's tartan for that reason

Crazy day here after me looking forward to a 'me' day. A friend turned up unexpectedly this morning until lunchtime. Gave DD1 lunch, DD2 not settling. Finally got her off to sleep all the time realising that my right hand was becoming increasingly unusable. Dh had to come home early from work so I could get the doc to see it before we went away. I've got some kind of tendonitis from trying to lift baskets of wet washing, the laptop, saucepans, etc. one-handed whilst Isla cries in the other. Not great when I needed to pack and get the house clean before going away! Needless to say the house is still a pigsty . Best get off to bed before my 530am start

Happy Easter youse lot, see you back here in a week (unless we take the laptop).

hobnob57 · 02/04/2010 22:07

oh, and the poo did not arrive today. 13 days and counting. If it arrives in the car seat tomorrow (5.5 hour drive) we'll have a full change on our hands on the hard shoulder

PavlovtheCat · 03/04/2010 08:05

Morning! Well, a great night on the children sleeping front.

My day/routine last night - DD and Reuben had a great outdoor wet and windy stomp in the woods, DD had a huge tea, and Reuben had not fed since before our walk (about 2pm? and before that, 3 hours before). He was distacted I think, by watching us eating, then both had a bath, I massaged Reuben will olive oil on the bed and DD watched Madagascar on our bedroom tv. They both got ready for bed, and we snuggled in bed while Reuben fed (7pm ish), he had a break, a snuggle with DD and I, then he fed on the other side (both sides were really full as he had not fed so much in the day). I then rested him on the bed, awake and smiling, with my arms around him, and was absentmindedly stroking his hair and after a while he dozed off! (about 7:45pm?) so I took DD upstairs to read a story and he woke. Brought him up for stories which he listened to with glazed tired but content face, then downstairs and stroked his head, and he dozed off next to me straight away, no fussing for milk, no distress just happy and sleepy! And, no fuss from DD either, straight to sleep!

He then slept til 2:30am, then straight back to sleep after a feed, even though his nose was snuffly and did not even complain when I put spray up his nose! Then he woke (stirred) at about 5am and I fed him in bed without him moving, so he fed while asleep. Then he slept until 7am!!! DD also slept through til 7:15am, and they are both in wonderful moods !

Me on the other hand. Well. A different story indeed. DH decided to stay out all night, and I am a bit peed off with him (the short version!).

scarlotti · 03/04/2010 08:09

Hobnob you've left now but hope you have a good journey and trip away.

DWB fab dress Dh chose a different tartan to his own at our wedding as he couldn't hire his own.

DH and I ended up sitting up talking about stuff last night and didn't get to bed until about midnight. Am so tired today now. Not sure we accomplished much in the chat either, he said he felt better for getting things off his chest so I suppose that's something.

Hoping to take DS1 swimming this morning whilst DH looks after Ioan. Sun is out here so hopefully it will be a nice day. High chair shopping then later - what has everyone else gone for?

scarlotti · 03/04/2010 08:11

Pav x-posts, great news on a succesful night with the dc's, and here's to a lovely day with them all chirpy! Naughty dh though.

DontWorryBaby · 03/04/2010 08:55

So I'm allowed to be jealous now pav? a not-so-great night here. Had to change Ethan twice, me twice & my bedding once before he slept around half eleven as he was v sick. Possibly down to jags the day before? Also had to employ the carseat to get him to sleep. He then fed at 2, 5ish and 7:30 & has now dozed off again. Getting up soon to visit DP's mum as it's her birthday today. I'm so tired!!

Why do babies fight sleep? Clearly exhausted but won't just go to sleep.
