Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Scout19075 · 20/04/2010 22:40

Sebby slept for an unprecedented 2.5 hours this afternoon!! He's NEVER done that, even as a newbie! He slept well last night, too asleep by 7:15, up around 1:30 for a feed, around 3:30 for a feed and not again until about 6:45 for the day, then took a one-hour nap starting around 8:00. He also had a 30 minute snooze in his stroller after AquaBabies when we walked into town from the leisure center. He was awake going to Guides and during (though the during isn't unusual). Fell asleep on the way home and I let him sleep in his carseat while I got dinner for DH & I. When he woke up I took him up for the bedtime routine. He's still awake now, but DH is doing the settling. (oh, I hear movement must be sleeping now! Yes, DH down, Seb sleeping!)

I am wondering if it's teeth -- the lack of interest in food and milk, more drool than usual (he drenched his bib in less than an hour at Guides), grizzlier than usual for no obvious reason and the eating of anything he can put his mouth on. Even some of the Guides/leaders noticed how he wasn't sucking his dummy but chewing it, and how he was chewing his fist and bib and my shoulder. Basically, if he wasn't holding someone's hand (the Guides like to hold his hands ) he was chewing them or holding something to his mouth. I gave him his teething snail earlier and I swear he smiled when the cool hardness went in his mouth.

Have several Guides/Young Leaders stuck away because of the lack of flights in/out of the UK. One of the girls is stuck in South Africa and apparently won't be able to get back until late next week at the earliest?! I'm now getting a bit worried that I won't be able to get out on May 6th.... I really want to go home!

Igglybuff · 21/04/2010 09:13

scout good news about Seb sleeping well! Sounds like teeth alright - William has never drooled so much in his short life! Also grumpy unless he has something to chew - this morning it was my breakfast spoon he wanted

I see the planes are flying again - we heard one at 10pm as soon as they reopened! So fingers crossed you'll get home scout

fidelma · 21/04/2010 15:23

I don't know where the time goes.

My mum has gone to pick the big 3 up from nursery and school, connor has gone back for a nap as his first one was too short, the spag bol is ready so I am having a few moments to myself.(sadly without any chocolate)

Scout it looks like you will make it home.

My head is buring as we are getting things organised for our build. We have decided that we are going to move into a wee 3 bed cottage.OMG 6 of us and my DH needs alot of space. It's a long story but this makes economical sense as we will end up with a 3 bed holiday cottage in an amazing location which we can add to our holiday portfolio.Needless to say it is a reck at the moment and we want to move in in September.(we never take the easy route)Oh well fun and games.sh133!!

HappyTangerine · 21/04/2010 15:37

What to do with a clingy baby who will not be put down at all today?(yells then screams and cries if I try). No interest in food today at all, won't sleep and is super grumpy. I suspect a 3rd tooth on th way. Joe's temp is fine. Wish I had the energy to go to my MILs but its seems so far to walk on next to nothing sleep. My back is killing me. Sorry to moan.

Fidelma You are very brave

Igglybuff · 21/04/2010 16:09

HT sorry you've got a grumpy baby on your hands. Can you get out for a quick walk? Pop Joe in the pushchair, let him shout but he might calm down once out? William is a bit clingy today but I took him for a walk and felt better just feeling the sun on my face. Distracted William by playing peekaboo with the buggy hood

HappyTangerine · 21/04/2010 16:30

Thanks Iggly-have been out twice to park and then shops. Screamed blue murder in the park and was arching his back and screaming, trying to flip over the side of the buggy. Better to/fro shops as I had him in the Baby Bjorn but it's knackered my back. This is officially the longest day of my life and I bloody well hate it that dh doesn't come in from work until 10pm each night, leaving me to cope with the evening meltdowns alone. Sigh.

Sorry

ruby-how did sleep consultation go?

Igglybuff · 21/04/2010 17:17

HT please don't apologise. It sounds tough Can you give him something for his teeth (if it's that)? Will putting Joe to bed early help with the meltdown?

littlepea72 · 21/04/2010 17:46

HT you poor thing . Sounds like a case of bad teething & the flipping about will be from no sleep. I give Faith her Calpol (5ml) & in 2 hrs if no better then 2.5ml of nurofen. They can be given together, and when you have a baby who is in such a bad way, you will try anything. I hope he sleeps for you tonight xx

*Fidelma at 3 bedroom cottage lol....take wine & chocolate with you!

Scout looks good with the flights

Hi to everyone else!!

Scout19075 · 21/04/2010 18:35

HT Hugs for you. I am in the same boat baby melting down today, teething (at least, I think that's what it is will be Seb's first) and a DH who left at 6 a.m. and won't be home until 10 p.m. at the earliest. After an afternoon of whinging, meltdowns and the inability to be put down, I skipped Seb's bath (which he probably should really have had one given he's been playing in jelly today), skipped even trying to give him food (only had a few spoonfuls at lunch), dosed him with Calpol and Bonjela and spent 25 minutes trying to get him to sleep.

He's there, but it was rough. I can only imagine what the neighbors think (we're in an end terrace). I once apologized to them for the noise and they said they rarely, if ever, hear Seb. They also said that he's a baby and they understand that crying is what babies do, so I shouldn't worry. Well, if they've never heard him before they did tonight!

ruby How was the sleep consultation?

fidelma Iggly and littlepea Please keep those fingers crossed! I'm still a bit nervous about not making it home. I SOOO want to go it's almost starting to hurt. Was chatting online with one of my cousins the other day and sounds like she's going to try to get her sister and her mom together and the three of them drive to Philadelphia (they're in Ohio) for Mother's Day weekend, too, so all of the mothers of the family can be together (my Grandma, Mom, me, Aunt and two cousins). Fingers crossed! I haven't seen my cousins since my brother's wedding in 2006 and my aunt since before then.

I pass fidelma some chocolate (Easter Egg) -- would anyone else like some?

So much to do, and so much pleasure at having the house to myself tonight (I forgot/didn't realize DH would be late tonight), but feel spent and am going to treat myself to uninterrupted computer time until 7.

BellaCullen · 21/04/2010 21:16

HT and Scout sounds like you both had a rough day hope those teeth will be through soon.Calpol and Nurofen can be a real life-saver.

fidelma good luck with the cottage you`ll definitely need some wine and chocolate for it.

Had Nathaniel weighed today and hes put on 1lb in 3 weeks which is great .Saw a different HV today, who said he looks healthy and happy and is plotting along nicely on his line.Wont be needing referral for paedatrician thankfully. As his last op was more than 2 months ago I think his body is finally concentrating on putting on weight.

Only had a slice of cucumber and a biscuit today wasnt interrested in anything else.Every day is different which is fine. Went bra shopping yesterday and am a DD cup, which I am loving as once upon a time used to be an A cup,so wont be giving up BF anytime soon.

Scout hope you`ll be able to go home in May.

Ruby how did you`re consultation go?

hello to everyone I missed out xxx

fidelma · 21/04/2010 21:32

HT and Scout that is a tough day.I will pass you some wine and chocolate.

whispers very quietly "I gave Connor a digestive today and OMG he loved it, I was at a friends.I have decided that I better not buy any as it would be to tempting to feed him digestives all day long. And I can't resist them for breakfast with a cup of tea"

HC I am blaming you for the digestives as it was you who said that M had had ice cream!!! (well I have to blame someone LOL)Well seen we are on our 3rd and 4th baby.Nothing but the best organic food picked by the light of the new moon for DD1 until she was 1 AND I MEAN NOTHING !!!

Connor had spag bol for tea I hope that was OK.He is almost 7 months.

DD1 was sent to bed at 7pm tonight for not doing what she was told after a few warnings.I find that is the best punnishment as it suits me.(however I did take her a hot chocolate as prommised.I am way too soft)

It's my 36 birthday tomorrow. You are all invited to lunch is 12.30 ok ?

Oh yes and about the 3 bed cottage it is tinny and only has one bathroom.

Scout19075 · 21/04/2010 22:07

Bella Very at bra size. I was barely an A-cup before pregnancy and barely a B-cup even breast feeding! I'm so flat the walls are envious!!

fidelma Seb had jelly today and he's only 25 weeks today. Well, I didn't start out to give him jelly. We were at messy play and today it was playing with/in jelly. Of course Seb didn't want to pick it up/squish it/sit in it/eat it like the other babies -- oh no, he just wanted to eat the plastic dinosaurs that were buried in it. However, he didn't like the jelly that the dinosaurs were in so it would touch his lips and he'd make a face and push it away/drop it/look at me like "What the heck, Mommy?!" I think he was the only baby/toddler there that wasn't sucking down the jelly on their fingers/toes.

fidelma Happy Birthday (for tomorrow)! What flavor of cake would you like to celebrate?

Just had a text from DH -- now it's looking like he won't be home until 11:30-midnight. Forget staying up, I'm going to bed. Would have gone to bed at 8 tonight if I wasn't looking forward to seeing my hubby tonight. No way I will be able to stay up until midnight. That means I won't have seen him at all today since I was asleep when he left for work this morning. Know it's not his fault (stupid work thing), but a little adult interaction from my nearest and dearest would have been nice.

Scout19075 · 22/04/2010 07:06

...and DH left this morning before I woke up, so I haven't seen him since Tuesday night. Why do I feel like it's going to be a LONG day?

CalypsoFramboise · 22/04/2010 09:18

morning all!

HT I'm so sorry you had such a stressful day, sounds really hard and completely exhausting. I empathise with the 'dealing with it alone', I'd feel so resentful when DH was out at the pub with friends and I'd be wrestling with a cranky baby... I echo other suggestions of calpol/neurophen combo, sounds like both you and J need the relief x

Fidelma cottage sounds claustraphobic! good luck!! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

scout I ENVY your bra size! I used to be a B cup and very happy, have been a FF/G since month 4 of pregnancy and hate it! I'm really looking forward to getting my tiny boobs back so much more comfortable. Because I'm so petite I look Dolly Parton like, much to DH's amusement Sorry to hear that you won't see your DH again.

My mother is over in England at the moment and is a whizz with the sewing machine and has made me some very nice blackout curtains for Annalise's room, put them up yesterday full of hope that she's sleep in a bit longer but nope, up at 5:45am anyway! Is having a better morning nap though, 1hr so far

Ruby & PM How are your nights at the moment? I hope getting better and you're both more rested?

HC belated grrr at your SiL, how awful

Off to the swimming pool later, Annalise really was shocked and upset at the wave machine last time - was like a mid-Atlantic tempest though!

CalypsoFramboise · 22/04/2010 09:22

HT also, you say the bjorn hurts your back, have you tried J in the stretchy sling? (CarryMe? is that what you have?) It will offer much better support from hips, I still carry Annalise about 90% of the time in her stretchy sling (ok- she's only just over 13lb!) but it would mean he was very snuggly close to you but you could get on with stuff. You can put him forward facing for fun too.

Bella Yay N putting on a whole 1lb!!

rubyslippers · 22/04/2010 09:42

sorry not been around much - will try to catch up tomorrow as i am working this afternoon/evening

Sleep consultation was very thorough as this is the plan:

Do not feed her before 10 pm and give a full feed

do not feed her again unless 3 hours has passed

reduce the time of each night feed by 1 minute every other night

wake her up at 7 am each day to get her napping on schedule

tweak her bedtime routine so she is not fed right befroe she is put into her cot

this is the crux of it and we start tomorrow night. Sleep consultant seemed very nice and understanding

think we are heading for a week or so of upset but i am very much hoping it will be worth it

will catch up tomorrow ... xx

littlepea72 · 22/04/2010 09:57

Will post later, just off to the doctors with Faith, Ive been watching the spots pop up all night, who says you cant get chicken pox twice! Bad night with them, up every half hour, all night! Calpol & Nurofen love you!!

Fidelma Happy Birthday!!!!!

twinklegreen · 22/04/2010 10:00

Hi everyone

Struggling to keep up at the moment, just sooo busy with everything!

Just wanted to pop in, sorry that I can't do more personals...

fidelma Happy Birthday! the big 3-0 is fast approaching for me 10 days away now....
Also you made me smile about Connor and the digestive, I'm exactly the same, was so strict with dd1 , less so with ds, so slack with dd2, she's already had ice cream and quite a few chocolate buttons over easter!

ruby hope the new sleep plan works for you.

bella glad to hear N is putting on weight.

hope everyone who had a bad day yesterday has a better one today.

Waves at everyone else

Forgot to say, house going well, just ordered the Windsor kitchen from here... so exciting!!!

HappyTangerine · 22/04/2010 10:28

Happy Birthday Fidelma

Scout how was your night?

Bella 1lb, thats fantastic! Are you still co-sleeping btw?

ruby Good luck with the sleep plan. I think it would kill me to wake J at 7am after a bad night but I know its the only way to sort napping schedule.

TwinkleOoh, I have kitchen envy now, gorgeous

Littlepea My neice got chicken pox twice, only 6 spots the second time. Fingers crossed Faith is ok

Calypso Thanks, I have the close carrier and Joe just seems uncomfortable (and heavy0 in it now. Have been following Mel's thread on slings as am torn between a Manduca and Connecta.

After all that hell yesterday, Joseph slept from 10pm to 9am, with just a small wake up/grizzle at 3am. I so needed that DH has day off and we're off to buy storage boxes-keeping the house tidy when you have a baby clinging tyo you like a zopo monkey is impossible and the clutter is really getting me down. We're on day 4 of Joseph's separation anxiety/clinginess and I am grateful for some help today. My back hurts so much.

rubyslippers · 22/04/2010 10:32

Happy Birthday Fidelma!!!

hope you get spoilt rotten x

Igglybuff · 22/04/2010 10:33

twinkle that's lovely! I'm upset as our builder is stuck in Bulgaria so cannot do our bathroom until next month. Blooming volcano.

fidelma Happy Birthday! Have a I might not make 12.30pm lunch so save some for me

ruby good luck with the routine. DH and I had been stretching out the night feeds and waking William up at 7/half 7 every day before his sleep improved. So I hope it works for you.

scout for you that your DH is not around much. I get upset when my DH gets home after 6pm! I'm very very very lucky. Also I forgot to congratulate you on getting this far with the exclusive breastfeeding! Have you decided what cake to bake to celebrate?

bras I highly recommend hot milk - their feeding bras are lovely although pricey. I don't think my boobs have grown much - maybe a cup or two? Covered in stretch marks though

Bella what a super weight gain!

HT I find the Bjorn kills my back too. So much for the extra support! I've fiddled with it so more weight on the hips but DH uses it, adjust the straps so it hurts again. I hope you've had a better evening/night. Please keep talking too about things so we can offer support.

calypso your DH goes to the pub?! Mine hasn't been allowed out yet.......

HC hope you're ok.

Also at smallone, curli (if you're reading) and others.

I am excited to report that William is trying to crawl - he can shuffle a tiny bit forward now and is lifting up onto his hands and knees. I had a nightmare last night that he was getting all over the house and falling off things so will be ordering safety "stuff" tonight. His teeth are also poking through - I can feel the edges when I rub his gums.

It's such a nice day and I'm in a good mood as William naps in his cot, not on me! Hurrah!

Igglybuff · 22/04/2010 10:35

x-post HT great news about the sleep.
I also have the close carrier and it's a bit pants (William I think is over 20lbs now).

princessmel · 22/04/2010 14:13

Hi all

Lovely kitchen twinkle , so exciting. I love new things!

Happy Birthday fidelma I love birthdays!

scout Fab about the long nap baby scout had. I love long naps!!!
F is hit and miss with his naps. Sometimes he sleeps for 20mins, sometimes an hour, his personal best has been 1hr 50mins. These times are for day naps his cot btw. Right now, he is in his cot for the 2nd time of the day. First nap was only 20mins...this one is 40 mins so far but I think I can hear noises.....not enough for a baby in my book. Dd was a much 'better' napper. She sucked her thumb...

teeth still dribbly and hand/toy chewy here, no spikey bits poking out of gums yet though.

sleep Gah! He was better at 3months! I was so tired yesterday, I felt sick iykwim. F woke at 9,2,3 and then was awake between 3 and almost 5 on my boob, feeding, singing and just not quite being asleep.
Last night he woke at 11, 2 and 5 and then 7 but was asleep inbetween so I feel better today. Plus I went to bed at 8.30pm...lol!!

bras I have tons. Mostly from previous babies. But only 2 that are half decent. But guess what? I have lost my white one. I am so . I can't find it anywhere!!! Left with a purple one and all the crap baggy ones. I am currently a 34e. I want small, perky and non stretch marked ones please.

bella Fab weight gain !! I was meant to be weighing F today to see what he has reached at 6m.....purely on my milk...yay me!! But he's asleep. We'll go next week. Or later if he wakes in time.

Last time I went, the HV made it clear they didn't think I needed to go back for a while. They said not till 8m unless I was worried!! I was made to feel that I go too much and that it's not neccesary. I was a bit put out tbh.

HT and slings . I haven't used my BB for a few weeks now. F seems to have turned a corner and I haven't needed it so much. Maybe it's because he is napping in his bed, or pram or happier playing, I don't know. I would love a connecta or an ergo but don't know if I can justify buying one now.

husbands being around I am very lucky as dh is sround a lot. He is usually home by 5 and quite often by 4 ish. But he is working this weekend and next...

food Still going very slow here. But yesterday dh fed F a teeny cube of carrot puree and this morning he ate 2 teeny cubes of apple puree. He doesn't open his mouth like a baby bird, just sort of sucks the spoon. We're doing finger food too, everytime we or the dc's eat. He sucked a parsnip and a bagel the other day.

F is sitting up quite well now. I still put pillows round him though. He falls forwards after a while but can play for a bit sitting up. He likes bashy toys, things that pop up and things that makes noises. He loves toys with rubbery chewy bits on too.
With ds1 I had no flashy/noisy toys as I didn't like them, but dd and ds2 LOVE them So does ds1 actually....

Gosh what a long post...!
I am in a good mood today. Sun is shining and F has been happy. I ordered some bits in the sale and found out that dh has had a pay rise. Yay! Hope you're all ok.
Off to ballet after school...

Scout19075 · 22/04/2010 14:31

Calypso I guess there are pros and cons to my boob size -- I can wear button tops without showing boobie but a lot of dresses hang off me. Oh well! How was swimming today?

ruby Fingers crossed for the new sleep routine!

littlepea How is Faith? (And yes, I've known lots of people to have chickenpox twice.)

twinkle Very at the new kitchen. I fear I covet a big kitchen.

HT Yay for Joe's sleeping last night!!! I was thinking about you as I sat here wondering if/when Seb would wake up, for how long and how often.

Iggly Not sure about cake flavors at the moment. Am thinking of taking plain cupcakes to breast feeding group on Monday so the toddlers that come with their mums can have cake, too. But I'd like to be more adventurous. Any suggestions?

Seb had his normal sleep last night -- awake around 10:30, 1:30, 3:30 and up for the day at 6:45. He had a 35 minute nap this morning around 8:30-ish, then we walked into town for a hot chocolate and to drop some papers off to one of my Guides. He fell asleep on the way home and had a half-an-hour nap. Managed to get him into his basket around 2 p.m. with no fuss and he's up there sleeping now. I've done a little tidying up and I'm doing some computer time before I get back to tidying.

Please, dear God, let there be teeth before we go to the States in two weeks. I've had a toothache on a plane before and it was hell (possibly worse than induced labor?! ) -- I can't imagine what baby teething pain would be like (like alone the accompaning screaming with it).

My back and shoulders are killing me. Can't figure out why but after reading about everyone's problems with the Bjorn and/or slings, I wonder if that's my problem I put Sebby in our Bjorn (I call it the kangeroo pouch) on Tuesday at Guides for the first time in ages. I went to sit on some steps with him in it and it was like being pregnant all over again feet apart, leaning back, holding out my arms for balance. My Guides got a kick out of it!
