Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
littlepea72 · 27/05/2010 17:21

HC I hope your wee ones are ok. Nothing worse than seeing them sick. Do you think you might try some f milk untill yours is back up again? Has he ever drank out of a bottle? I hope it doesnt last long xx

HT get that piano & flute going together lol...give them what for!!

Hope everyone else is ok

The "young" HV came here today, the one that I think is daft. I swear she is nutts! She wanted to do some tests on Faith as she thought she was well behind turns out she thought....now wait for this one....that Faith was 13 months old honestly, what kind of HV cant tell a 7 month old from a 13 month! She then went on to tell me that I should be spending up to 7 hours on the ground with her a day Ok.......like I said, daft.....

Im off to bed early tonight, not many boxes packed today, and tomorrow I have to go for a blood test if AF hasnt arrived....for pregnancy test, like that would be me on the floor, thankfully I know Im not lol....

Scout I love that you got your badge! Wonderful

Iggly I tried to give Faith chips, but like everything else, mushed & on the floor, she wont put anything into her mouth lol

Fidelma I like your thread title with the wine! lol....

HumphreysCorner · 27/05/2010 20:43

littlepea-your HV is completely batty!!!! Hope AF shows. Don't want to give M formula, need to get him to 1 year when he can have cows milk in a beaker.

Anyone else had the Bounty 8 month newsletter? So, your 8 month old will be pulling themselves up against the furniture and cruising along the furniture. M can't even sit up!

He hasn't sicked up his tea but can hear his tummy gurgling.

Laters!

Hi littlepea I hope the early bedtime helps. As for your HV Faith must be super advanced! However 7 hours on the ground???? Doing what exactly???!

scout good veggies/fruit we've tried: soft ripe pears (mush up very easily under babies gums), brocolli, cauliflower, carrots (cook so they are soft enough to squish with your thumb), chips (can make your own with healthier sweet potatoes), melon, bananas. Have also tried avocado, mango and peaches but William doesn't like slippy things so much as difficult to pick up but he's getting better. I'm also avoiding citrus fruits and strawberries/raspberries as could trigger W's reflux and there is a risk of allergic reaction - will wait til he's older. I have given him tomatoes (cooked) and he seemed to have a bad reaction

HC I was also going to suggest formula?

fidelma yes I like the wine one too! How about Oct 09, we're doing fine now it's summertime, but pass the wine"!

HT great news re DH hours. What does he do?

HumphreysCorner · 27/05/2010 21:23

HT-yes, what does DH do? My friend is a Civil Servant working in immigration.

I like that thread title too.

or

October 09 babies. Sitting, standing, commando crawling, rolling and eating-it's all happening but I need a slap on the head to stop the broodiness. Pass the wine!

just take the broodiness bit out, is there a pill I can take to stop it???

fidelma · 27/05/2010 22:25

HC I am counting on you to have another one I would if dh would let me but that will not happen.

for all your bugs.

I am hopping that all mine stay well for our blessing on Sunday.Anyone who looks ill I move well away from.lol

off to bed x

littlepea72 · 28/05/2010 05:33

Iggly Faith is so not advanged in anything lol....im with HC as Faith isnt sitting up yet! She does do it for maybe 30 sec's then down. I swear I just looked at the HV & wont say what I was thinking lol....she is very young, no kids & does it to a book, oh, and dont go buying any books apart from the one she tells you to, as the rest are all wrong...

HC tummy rumbling is a good sign!

My friend is coming over tonight, she lives in the next town. I will say goodbye to her, but we are going on a girlie holiday in 10 weeks, so it wont be to bad....will have to buy lots of cake though

Right....boxes, I might just pack myself!

Scout19075 · 28/05/2010 14:29

Just a quick moan then off to get Seb up for a wash down (more food on him and his clothes than in his mouth!) and nap.

I went to get Seb weighed at the weigh clinic today. I had him weighed on 28 April his six month birthday and thought today was a good day to do it since it's his seven month birthday and at the last weigh-in was told to do it once a month. On 4/28 he was 16 lbs 3 oz. Quite respectable and I was very pleased as he had been EBF with a bit of solids at that point. Before I started the solids in earnest (because he wasn't liking what I was offering) I got told off that he had stabilized/plateaued and hadn't gained anything or hardly anything in a couple of weeks (at that point I was going more frequently because I was curious). Today he weighed in at 19 lbs 3 oz -- a full three pounds in a month! (And that means he went up 2 percentiles.) And again, I got told off but this time because he put on three pounds! I've been asked to go back in two weeks so they can "keep an eye" on the gain. ARGH! He'll plateau again and I'll get told off again. ARGH!!

The HV today, to her credit, did say "well, you're husband's tall" (she shadowed my HV on my last home visit and has met DH who, at 6'5" is tall). Mom thinks DS is getting ready for a major spurt as he's eating loads, gaining all that weight, and having really good sleeps (naptime and overnight).

While in the US, Mom and I measured Seb so we had an idea of size for clothes. He was approx 28 inches. I've just looked at the growth chart in the red book and that 28 inches means he's jumped about 5 percentiles since the one time he was measured, back when he was just under 5 months old. I wonder if I'll get told off for that, too?

HumphreysCorner · 28/05/2010 16:21

Scout-ignore the measurements and weight as Seb will go up and down. It is fine to do so.

Can I ask you how on earth I find where my local Brownies meeting is as I can't find it on the internet and DD1 wishes to start. She isn't 7 yet but would like to put her name down. Do they still have uniforms? Do you have to pay?

HC

Scout19075 · 28/05/2010 16:45

Hi HC.

Yes, I normally ignore which is why I think I'm so wound up this time. He's growing, is happy and healthy and likes his food and milk, I'm so not worried!

As for Brownies, is fairly easy to find. And yes, they still have uniforms and there is usually subs to pay (per term) to help cover rent, insurance, activity supplies, etc. Each unit is different. Here is the link to the Brownies page. Follow the link at the bottom to visit main page, then to get involved then to enrol your daughter. Give me a shout if you want more help.

HumphreysCorner · 28/05/2010 17:00

You're still jetlagged.

Thanks for the link, off on there now.

littlepea72 · 28/05/2010 17:11

Scout what a load of....... honestly, you would worry if he had lost a load of weight, but there is nothing wrong! Tell them to wind their necks in lol...He is a slender wee thing, and with his dad being so tall, he is going to need to eat more with all that growing

I have so much cake here, my friend is coming tonight and I have bought 2 of everything they had

Scout19075 · 28/05/2010 19:38

After my morning at the weigh clinic, I decided to head over to Cambs to do a bit of wandering around and window shopping while the weather was nice without roasting us. Was very naughty and went to Mickey D's, as I sometimes find when I'm a bit homesick or lonely I crave their fries (weird, I know!). So we stopped there for a bit while I had some and I gave Sebby his lunch (not Mickey D's, but packed lunch from home) which he thoroughly enjoyed and his enthusiasm spread joy to those around us. As I was leaving I saw two girls, one who was a mid-teenager if that and the other was probably about 11-12ish. They had a baby in one of those very big, old-fashioned type prams and it was all white and pink and frilly. Inside was a sweet little baby who looked to be four months old with one of those (I'm really sorry, awful) frilly headbands with bows. Now, she was young and couldn't sit up on her own the teenager kept propping her up in her pram and you could see poor little one wasn't comfy. Then, and this is the part that got me, she gave the baby a fry! Honestly, a Mickey D's french fry! Got frustrated when the baby wouldn't take it at first and pried her fingers open and put the fry in it. WHY?!?!?! I wanted to shout at her but she looked like she could have and would have punched me out if I said anything. Now I'm all for giving a baby a chip if the baby is old enough and it's a decent chip, not a deep-fat-fried-salted-to-death chip! ARGH! Poor wee baby!!! (Yes, I know I had just had some, but I am an adult and made the adult decision to splurge and be naughty.)

Reminded me of the time at home, back in January, when I was sitting in the food court at the mall breastfeeding Seb and saw a man (if you could call him that, he looked young, too) dip his entire finger in ketchup and shove it his baby's mouth (baby looked, maybe, six months, seven months tops). EURGH! Again, I KNEW that guy would have punched me out so I said nothing but a prayer for the baby.

AND -- rants over.

HC How are your DCs today? And what part of immigration does your friend work for/with? Immigration services frighten me....

littlepea Mmm, cakes. Hope you enjoy your girlie evening! Had to laugh at "wind their necks in" -- haven't heard that one before but think I might have to start using it!

fidelma Good luck for Sunday. (Fingers crossed for good weather, too.)

How is everyone spending their Bank Holiday/Bank Holiday weekend? No none plans, but if they weather is okay might see if we can go to the American Cemetary over in Cambs -- Monday is Memorial Day in the U.S., so I'm sure the cemetary will be covered in flags and flowers, so would be an impressive sight.

Scout19075 · 28/05/2010 19:40

(Apologies for the above novel, Ladies! I'm in a mood.)

Igglybuff · 28/05/2010 20:43

Lol scout I would have given the mum The Look. Maccy D chips??!?!?! They are so salty! That is outrageous.

Great news on Seb's weight gain though - he's obviously storing up for when he starts moving around! W's weight has slowed down since he started commando crawling about.

I've had to slow W's weaning right down as he seems to have developed a nasty allergy to something - he has a red rash on his face and blotches on his bum and really bad wind meaning he was up every hour last night [tired]. Not entirely sure if it was tomatoes or soya (I can't give him dairy as makes him ill). It's quite depressing and I'm struggling a bit with knowing what to feed the poor boy. I'm worried he's going to lose weight as I don't have many options for high calorie food with no dairy or soya...!!! I'm hoping to see a dietician for help

littlepea enjoy the cakes(s)

fidelma · 28/05/2010 20:49

Scout I once lost my rag in Claires accessories when they were piercing an 8 week old babies ears I made a big seen and stormed out with my dc following me.I don't regret it but am greatful that I didn't get punched

Scout19075 · 28/05/2010 22:24

Iggly I did give "The Look" but I think it was lost.

Iggly and fidelma In my head I gave her a thorough chewing out in my harshest "teacher voice." I don't break it out often, but when I do most people know I mean business. Unfortunately she did look like the type to take a swing, babies or no babies (and I'm a wimp).

I'm not usually a Mrs Judgypants about people's parenting choices as I don't know their stories and what has led them to make the decisions they have. However, the Mickey D's incident just fried my fritters! Made me appreciate my (not so) little Sebby and his growing good habits. Also made me want to go out and buy him more fruit and veg. LOL

HappyTangerine · 29/05/2010 08:20

Iggly and HC-dh also works in immigration, a caseload of mainly EU nationals/people granted EU residency who then decide to apply tp have their spouses and families brought over. He's doing a lot of marriage interviews at the moment.

fidelma Am also very broody. Hope all goes well at blessing tomorrow and you have nice weather for it.

scout Ignore grumbles about Seb's weight gain, they'd be far more worried about a weight loss and it wiil even out as he moves about more. Bloody weigh ins are so stressful, I hate them.

at the woman in MacDonalds. Waiting in my gp's surgery last week, I saw a mum and dad feeding their little baby crisps! I've seen them at baby group and know their ds is 36 weeks old. Poor thing was gagging on them and coughing, I ended up having a not so quiet word about feeding SALT and vinegar crisps and choking risks, salt overdose etc. Then the nurse came out to take in a patient, saw them and gave them a v public dressing down.

littlepea Your hv is barmy! How is the packing going? Can you still see the cat running about?

HC I got the Bounty newsletter as well, it made me laugh! I'm wondering if littlepea's hv is using it as a guide. How is M today?

Iggly William sounds like he is doing great with his food, it's interesting that you mention citrus fruits and reflux though as Joe is worse after these as well.

Am starving and have another evil migraine, the worst one since J was born. Think AF may be just around corner, first one since Dec 2008(scared). Back in a bit.

CalypsoFramboise · 29/05/2010 14:57

Hello ladies!
Back from Corsica and it was... interesting! I think we were wildly over-optimistic with what was possible with a baby, thought Annalise would be happy to nap in the car and/or sling as we went hiking about but no chance. Poor thing is unused to cars and had a meltdown for most of the journeys. Oh and don't EVER try to park a car in Ajaccio, it was horrific . Otherwise the weather was really nice and its always good to walk in mountains. Will be posting some photos in FB for those friended

On the upside Annalise has started sleeping through, but her weightgain has slowed so I'm wondering if we should wake her for the dreamfeed still?

Also saw my cousin who had her 3rd DC, a DD 5 weeks old, born 2 weeks early by elective c-sec, and still seemed VERY newborn; small, totally vague glassy eyed, completely asleep about 22hrs of the day... I was taking Annalise swimming by 5 weeks, and I agree with my grandmother that the little girl may well have been 2 weeks late and been born about now, she really wasn't ready to be born last month. Anyway it was really nice to see my family again, my grandmother is 84 and left us one morning to cycle off to the gym for some weight and resistance training, haha

Will catch up on thread now, hope you all have a smashing (wet, bah) bank hols. x

ps: anyone heard from Smallone? Devils?

Igglybuff · 29/05/2010 18:05

Hey calypso! Glad you had a great holiday! Looking forward to the pics. As for dreamfeeding etc - I still feed W at night (he's not sleeping through though) as he doesn't feed enough in the day. Maybe he would if I night-weaned him... I'm waiting til he's established on solids before cutting them out.

HT at lecturing the mum re crisps. Quite right too. What are these people on???? reflux yes, I've been reading about foods to avoid because of reflux - basically anything acidic and dairy. I'll try every few months to see if he gets better. As for broodiness glad it's not just me. I'm going to tell DH tonight that I would like to either have had or be pregnant with DC2 by the time I'm 30 (next Aug)........ I think he'll agree..?

scout I like the phrase "fried my fritters"!

Time to feed William for bedtime now.

Igglybuff · 29/05/2010 18:06

Oh, we better get a move on with the new thread name!

princessmel · 29/05/2010 19:56

I'm back from hols!!! Will read all thread in a bit.

Thread titles...

'Moving,building houses,holidays and jobs...these Oct09 babies have busy mummies!'

'October09 babies....crawling, rolling, laughing into summer'

'October09 babies..we're so cute all the Grannies want to talk to us' ...this one is so true for Freddie!!

'October09 thread. 7 months on and our mummies have got this baby business all sorted out...well almost all!!'

HumphreysCorner · 29/05/2010 20:45

HT-so sorry about your migraine. Sadly my worst one since Dec 2008 did mean the start of AF again. Have discovered some strong Nurofen tablets which helped alongside the prescription ones.

Calypso-welcome back. It is years since I went to Corsica where there were loads of scrummy Legionaires.

Scout-I find it better to grin and bear it when I see something shocking as I fear being thumped. Was once rude to a Gypsy woman trying to sell me mouldy heather and she threatened to smash my face in. Never slept for weeks and was so scared incase I bumped into her in town.

Matthew hasn't been sick today-yay! He is rolling all over and nearly crawling Wonder if he will beat DD1 as she crawled at 9 months and he is nearly 8 months. I am going to get him weighed as on my scales he is under 18lb so that would mean a centile drop. Ho hum. Our HV is leaving-hurrah! She is one that never had children so does it by the book.

Enjoy the rain ladies! Boo hoo!

Scout19075 · 29/05/2010 21:17

Welcome back Calypso and princessmel!

Anyone else watching Eurovision?

HC Good news about Matthew!

Growing up where I did, where there was a period of time where people were shooting people for cutting them off on the highway, I tend to take a head-down approach to life. Sad, really, but I learned a long time ago which battles to pick (and, to a degree, who to pick them with).

Seb's still can't roll back to tummy or go on all fours, but he's starting doing a weird funny bouncing thing on his bum when he gets excited or wants to grab something. It's like he's getting momentum to launch forward. It's funny to watch. His bum starts bouncing and then he gets his upper legs and knees into the action.

I must find a phillips screwdriver. I got the penguin out for Seb today (the one he got in the States) and he immediately went for it and started laughing because when it rocks it laughs. When it didn't laugh back at him he looked very confused and upset and kept looking at me like "What's wrong with penguin-friend?! Fix it!"

littlepea72 · 30/05/2010 06:05

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh wrote out long posts twice, and twice they have been wiped! Not doing it again....sorry

Im just really mad now. AF still not here, that a week now. Looked back on callender for the last 6 months, and ive been on the day every time, so something is really strange! Funny that im getting cramps, but only when I think about them! Bloody cat is now fighting to lie on my tummy....wish it would hurry up!!

princessmel · 30/05/2010 14:34

Little pea i really think you are pg!!! That is a good thing isn't it???

My cat was crazy for sitting on my tummy whilst I was pg, and also my friends tummy....
