Dandy - I think Pula's suggestion is the best thing to do tbh. Such a shame that she didn't think to explain what to expect. I'm the only member of my family that's Catholic (long story!) and I made sure I explained what to expect for our wedding and for O's baptism.
I'd also find a 10.30am start tough if it's 1.5hrs away.

flippin - ouch! ouch! ouch!
Hope it clears up quickly for you.

Running - hope A has settled well at CM and you've managed to make the most of your time to yourself and you're pleased with your hair

Belgina - how's C today?

Hello everyone else!

We had snow here again this morning - settled on the grass and everything. Stopped now though.

My SIL to be texted me yesterday to ask if I want to go wedding dress shopping with her on Saturday I've persauded my mum and brother to look after O whilst we go

essenceofSES · 10/02/2010 13:11

Dandy - x-posts
Tbh, I'd take a colouring book for DD. You could argue that it would be more disrespectful for DD to be bored and disruptive?!
(Who's to notice if you have a book too?!)

youngerthanspringtime · 10/02/2010 13:45

Hi all!

Dandy, when we go to church, we are sure to sit near the back at the end of the aisle so we can get up/out as necessary with 3 LO's. for the 4 and 2 year olds we bring books (sometimes the place of worship has children's books provided), colouring stuff, I even bring simple snacks like box of raisins.

snow here as well, Ses. Wedding dress shopping sounds fun .

running, hope you're having a good Childfree time. Can't wait to hear about the haircut.

Fi, hope you're feeling better soon and flippin, hope your boob's better too!

ok, break over, it's Mummy Time for dd1 (DD2 is at nursery, H asleep). good, I could use a cuddle .

runningmonkey · 10/02/2010 14:02

Afternoon all,

Settling in went well and I got the loveliest cuddle when I arrived to pick A up. Another bonus was that she slept for 40 mins in her cot at the cm's and went down without a fight apparently .

hair update I chickened out and have kept it fairly long. Had a few more layers added in around the front and my fringe is more sweepy rather than blunt. I am v pleased with it although the cut has made me realise I have a LOT of grey. Off to lush for some henna this weekend me thinks.

Dandy I would do what pula suggests, will there be an order of service type thing so you know when you absolutely have to stay in there?

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 14:12

morning.. still not 100% but out of bed as i had to do the pre school run this am (either that or have ds running around at home & too worn out for that) so G is having a nap and i've got a green tea with a liberal dose of honey and putting my feet up.
flippin i'd ask the hair dresser for suggestions but make my own decision from there.. have fun btw
dandy we got our bfp's 1st time with both dc so no experience in ttc personally. my close friend now in nz did have 2long spells of ttc between dc1, 2 & 3 and i used to wait until i saw her in person to ask her howryoudoing? she'd already had her dc1DS & dc2 dd before we had our DS so her longest ttc time was when we were childless so bit easier for me to ask her..

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 14:16

oops phone went wonky! i'd done a great catch up post lost it and hit paste as I always copy my post before clicking post as phone can be temperamental and must have not copied this time! sorry

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 14:21

dandy our ds would find it hard to sit still for 10mins let alone 1.5hrs in hebrew. i can't see how anyone except maybe the devout & elderly would take offense if you had a quiet activity bag for dd. as ses said surely more disrespectful to be a constant disruption? would definitely sit at the back with isle seat too for easy [escape] trips to loo etc.
wedding dress shopping Ses Ooo great fun!
how's the blocked duct flippin cleared a bit i hope.
llare i forgot to look at the dress links when i had the laptop on this am briefly.. they sound great & i must remember to check them out. bet my dh would like vavavoom one!

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 14:35

just kept hitting back and yay found it!

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 16:07

i reminded dh about the london meet and said if he didn't get round to talking to his pal about us staying over.. i'd like to go to london on my own anyway . he would have to take the day off work to look after ds but shouldn't be a prob. just to work out if we all come.. meetcha and either stay over in hotel/friend friday night, visit natural history museum sat, come home or just me & G for the day on friday. one option costs £88.. the most up to £300 if we all come and do hotel! if dh can get time off it looks like i'll be coming! our trains arrive at paddington then i'd need the 23 bus to trafalgar square.. don't fancy sitting on tube for 30mins.. when i can sit on the bus looking at london for only slightly longer.. then a short walk from there to meet you!

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 16:31

has anyone used the #23 service? i'm just wondering about my taking the bugaboo? i'll pop onto our fb group tonight to talk proper details and check times.. can't access it on my phone unfortunately.

febes · 10/02/2010 17:29

Fi IME most buses are fine for buggies but you may have to get on the back and dash up to click your oystercard. You have to be prepared to fold the buggy though if there are other buggies or wheelchair users but I haven't ever had to do this (although I don't go on the bus that much). I have a P&Ts so pretty big as well and although its not the easiest once you are on you should be fine. Glad you're starting to feel better too.

TTC I was pretty quick to conceive both DD and DS but my DSis took over a year TTC her DS1 and I always asked her but of course we are sisters and very close. It was really hard for her at the time. I bet she dreams back to those quiet peaceful days now she has her DS1 and DTs!!

Dandy defo sit near the door and take a breather if it gets too much. It sounds like a long day what with the travelling as well.

llareggub · 10/02/2010 17:35

Quick post: in shock due to a near miss. Somehow G got hold of a 2p piece and was choking. He was sick, lying on his back, and quietly choking. My NCT group were here with 5 3 years and 5 babies...chaos. He's fine now but I'm not sure I am.

essenceofSES · 10/02/2010 17:49

Llare - must have been awful for you. I'm sure he'll have forgotten all about it now but unfortunately it doesn't work that way for us, does it.
Take it easy and sending over a large glass of wine (for your nerves obviously!) and a hug,

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 17:57

OMG llare what a relief G is ok.. i would have got a big fright too and in need of a medicinal brandy or such.. xoxox

runningmonkey · 10/02/2010 18:43

llare how terrifying. I am so glad he is ok. Please take it easy on yourself this evening. Sending a hug your way whether you like it or not x

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 19:22

dc's in bed.. hopefully now asleep too.. curry ordered and putting my feet up
llare have you recovered from the fright a little?
buses.. i have taken the bugaboo on quite a few but they have been the modern ones with wheel chair & pram spaces etc. my bugaboo doesn't collapse like the umbrella style push chairs.. i can lift the seat part off with G in it and kinda flatten the chassis part a bit.. but it's not something i'd be able to do with one hand.. so i'll hope i won't have to

HeadlessLadyH · 10/02/2010 19:52

Evening all.

Sorry not been on for a couple of days. I've been at a day spa today. God it was good.

llare christ oh christ, hope you are ok. Try not to to think about it too much. Go have some wine. What a scare.

dandy 1.5hours in hebrew? If my one outing to a synagogue (to a wedding) is anything indicative of most synagogue, the non jews are put upstairs so you may be able to make quick exits without disturbing the service. Hope the weather isn't too bad if you have to go outside. Is there a party afterwards?
And re the TTC question, when we were TTC DS2 and going through numerous miscarriages and so on, I only felt comfortable talking to others who had gone through the same. Having said that, sometimes people so obviously shied away from the subject that when someone asked I was desperate to offload. But then felt angry if that person hadn't been through the same. Totally insane. Conclusion: A gentle hope you are ok is probably acceptable.

fi enjoy your curry!

llareggub · 10/02/2010 20:25

Oooh, you lucky thing, Headless.

Thank you all for your sympathy. I've stuffed myself with leftover cake to make up for the fact I can't have a medicinal brandy. I feel very guilty and bit of a lax mother, to be very honest.

Am off to tidy the playroom now. I've got a friend coming tomorrow with her baby and I am going to comb every last inch of that blinking playroom to make sure that pennies, marbles, playmobil etc are hidden away. B never, ever put things in his mouth so I've been a bit slack I think.

He is fine. Both boys are asleep and DH is at a meeting so I am licking my guilty wounds in peace.

belgina · 10/02/2010 21:20

llare That must have given you such a fright. Especially the quietly bit... Glad you're all OK. I'm constantly picking small things off the floor and the worst is that DH isn't good at keeping non-toy things away from C.

Headless spa break

dandy Agree with the TTC question. Just a gentle "How are you?" sounds like the way to go, especially if like you said your friend is a private person.
1.5h service in Hebrew. Hmm, sounds interesting, but a bit long. Also like the suggestion of an entertainment pack for dd and a spot close to the exit. I did this to my dH's family and friends BTW, we had a catholic wedding in Belgium held completely in Dutch . They all said they enjoyed the ceremony though. Just being polite I suppose

fi That would be very exiting if you would be coming too! It'll be a fairly large group of us then, wont it?

C was still a bit clingy today, but much better. I also did a bit more baby torture and left her behind with DH yet again, while I took the eldest swimming. He tried to sling her when she was upset and realised just how heavy she is! She went to sleep much more easily though.

one born every minute* was really like it is TBH. It's obviously not all like it should be (e.g. can't work out why that woman was being monitored), but definitely realistic. And yes, I have met equally annoying DH's. Worse ones even, lol. Never met a woman's son at his sibling's birth before though.

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 21:21

just done ours & Mums sainsburys online shop.. even with my mum writing a list and me adding her usuals beforehand i was still an hour! yes a whole hour on the phone until she was finished!! so much of my MN time eaten up..
llare i know you feel bad but remember we've all been there at some point with choking.. it's scary stuff..it won't happen again like that as you'll not let it. some of us can even join you in the past coinage worries (if you remember it was DS & the 1p)
headless spa day or maybe it must have been divine!

flippinegg · 10/02/2010 21:34

llareggub - sorry to hear about the incident, glad you are all ok.

fi - I'll be getting the 23 bus probably...but from the other end of the route! No problem with buggies, I've done it a few times and never needed to fold the pushchair during the day. If it was rush hour you might do, but tbh any time after about 10 it's much quieter, and there's so many 23s that if one is busy you can wait for the next one. No problems with ruching to swipe your oyster card, it's one of the buses where you get on by the driver and all ticket transactions are done there.

headless - . .

My boob is still very tender, but I think I managed to massage the blockage out in the shower this morning - very hot water and lots of 'stroking' over the hot, lumpy bit. I'll do it again tomorrow just in case.

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 21:36

x post belgina i'm waiting to kick get dh off the laptop to work out the train times and bugaboo logistics etc

belgina · 10/02/2010 21:50

flipin Glad to hear the boob is better. Are you doing the massaging during feeding too?

running Your new hairdo sounds nice I was thinking about Henna, but I'm fake blonde and so they gave me a sample for a strand test. I've got thin hair, so I'm dithering about where to cut out a bit of my hair for the strand test.

FiByTheIcySea · 10/02/2010 21:50

flippin x post too! that's a relief the no 23's are on with the drivers.. G has grown out of my bjorn carrier and without the pram i'd have to humph her in my arms.. they'd feel like dropping off very quickly. going by the clothes she's just grown out of and that she's outgrown the carrier i reckon she's around 22lbs.
