Hello All!
Finally getting round to joining here! I find hardly any time to get online anymore - am fully taking advantage of no rain in my small part of the world!
Crumpette, I hope things are not what they seem. And Shiny, are you alright?
Well for someone who has been totally unmaternal for all her life, it seems I am taking to motherhood like a duck to water. I am loving spending time with Cara and am already hating the thought of going back to work I am breastfeedfing, but finding her prefering one side - I have had a nipple pierced twice and think maybe that's why? Most of the time I feed on that side with a shield, but doesn't seem to affect her feeding the other side without it.
Re the BM's - I got lactulose and a gel of lavender, geranium and cypress to apply to the perineum from my mw's. Re the fliud retention, I got 2 catheters (one to encourage me to pass the placenta and one after spinal to remove it) and took away 4 litres in one day!
As for intercourse...how soon is it alright? I am feeling the need to pretty soon, but just wondered what the general advice was? I didn't have stiches btw and don't feel tender anymore. Any comments welcomed
Hope everyone is doing well with their wee bubs xxx

Hi,

I thought i'd drop in over here and say hello.

My little fella, Tate is 2 weeks old today. It's been a bit up and down since his arrival - we ended up back in hospital last week because he was very jaundaced and refused to latch on to feed which was incredibly frustrating, but we have that sorted now, and he's eating like a horse - so much so that he's regained his birthweight, and then a little bit and he weighs a whole 10lb now!

The only worry now is when we were in hospital they discovered that he had a heart murmur, and he has to go on Thursday afternoon for a scan to see how bad it is. I have wondered if his lack of feeding well could have been a symptom of it? Does anyone else have any experience of babies with heart murmurs?

Anyways, that's us - i think i'll stick around a bit here, and get to know you all

Mama2b5 · 26/01/2010 21:14

well done - Hurry!!!!

hi mummies - some of us have done this journey for a while so i feel so excited to hear the updates on feeding and sleepless nites, BF or Bottle, leaking boobs, huge boobs shrinking bellies and BM dramas - With isaiah feeding at some strange times falling asleep then wanting more im feeling slightly lopsided im forgetting which breast he fed off last! had to go to Mothercares to get a bra fitting wasnt due so left it last min and got caught out!!!!! im huge!!!!!
Stupid have packs of pads and stuff but found them useless prefered regular "always" with wings the nite time ones! but Mothercares dont take them back event though not used!!!!!!!!
whighing moment!!!

still feels weird that im "Post -natel"!!!!
Hi Mistletoes & CTOFN - daily posters!
(putting me to shame)still no Devo - so wont be posting my " Birth story" yet!!!!

im off to have a bath before "Mr Demands" wants me again!

crumpette · 27/01/2010 09:43

mama2b5 I love maternity pads (oh this thread is so great I could never say that in real life!)I really like the padding for when I sit down!!!

Deemented you know me already and I'm so sorry little Tate has a heart murmur. My L had a slight heart murmur after she was born which had resolved itself by her 6/8 week check, sometimes babies are born with open valves. I was kept in hospital after I had her because of it but they did nothing to treat and when she was checked again she was fine. Is that likely in your case? I do hope your LO is OK he sounds like such a strong little guzzler! 10lb already! Otherwise I had a colleague with a heart murmur once, only found out as he didn't want to join in the office football team and that was his excuse. He was fine, I could never tell and I think he just had to take it a bit easy at times.

alibobins · 27/01/2010 13:36

Jacob weighs 8lb 15oz can't believe he has put on nearly 2lb in two weeks got his length too and he is 50cm x x

I have had my first period this week does anyone know if I can use tampons?

crumpette hopefully your feeling about dp having an affair is wrong you seem a very strong woman and I'm sure whatever you decide to do will be the right decision for you x x

Dee not had any personal experience of a heart murmer but my niece had one which righted itself and caused no problems.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 27/01/2010 14:34

mama2b5 I was told not to use Always because I have stitches. They draw all the moisture out of the skin down there and can cause real problems with healing. But I have to agree it was very nice being able to walk without feeling like you have a pillow stuffed in your pants!

Actually on maternity pad issue, Wilko's nighttime maxi pads are identical to boots maternity pads at half the price!

crumpette get yourself and your LO settled then kick your DP out on his ass, you do not need this!

Feeding little Tobin is taking it's toll a bit. I was told to basically stick him on the boob whenever he'll take it to try and get my milk supply up, so now I live on the sofa with a newborn glued to my boob, which is fine but when he starts with the colicky screaming from 5pm to 11pm it can get a bit much. Shouldn't complain, poor LO is struggling with it.

Congratulations Sazlocks!!
Have you just decided on a name Somewhat? We took a couple of days and it felt really weird to have no name.
Cara has put on 10oz since last monday, so feeling really pleased.

MissMarjoribanks · 28/01/2010 10:18

Deemented - I have experience of babies with heart murmurs, I was one. In fact, I still have it, but it has never affected me physically in any way at all - I regularly did vigorous mountain walking pre-pregnancy and will do again. The only time it has been an issue was when I went for my booking in appointment for this pregnancy and they referred me to the cardiology unit to make sure I could have an anaesthetic if required. They could still hear the murmur but I was otherwise found to be asymptomatic and was immediately discharged with no further action. The likelihood is that Tate, even if the murmur remains, will be as unaffected as I am.

Ali - if you're having your first period and lochia has stopped, you can use tampons, provided they are comfortable for you.

My news - Thomas has finally, at 8 weeks of age, taken to the breast. I have fed him exclusively from it (he much prefers the right) for the last 24 hours with the EBM sitting in the fridge. I'm having all the worries of getting enough / green poo / favouring one side of course, but I'm sure we will get there eventually. I've an NCT counsellor coming to see me tomorrow which I hope will iron out any residual issues.

Thomas also had his first set of jabs yesterday - he was a good boy and only screamed the place down for 20 seconds or so. He was a bit grizzly overnight but nothing major.

Deemented · 28/01/2010 10:32

Oh, what fantastic news, MMB - you should be so proud of yourself! We had some feeding issues with Tate last week which resulted in a three day hospital stay, during which he didn't feed from me at all, and that was incredibly frustrating, so i can only imagine how 8 whole weeks of it have been for you!! Good on you for stucking it out though Ah, i'm that pleased for you!

Thanks for the info re. the heart murmur too - obviously i'm worried, but i've been assured it's nothing too serious - fingers crossed they'll tell us something this afternoon when we go.

Congrats Sazlocks!

Hope everyone is ok,and not seeing the world too much from a sleep deproved haze

CTOFN you are doing a fab job of keeping us up to date

How long are your little ones awake for Jacob is still a very sleepy baby. A typical day
Wake up at 6.30 awake until school run 8.30 then sleep feed sleep feed until around 6 ish when he will wake for another 2 hours but be really grizzly then sleep.

And any tips on getting him to go longer that 2 hours between feeds. Thanks

alibobins no tips from me, sorry. This one feeds 'on demand' which is so frequent at the moment it seems constant. None of the 4 hourly feeding I hear he should be doing !

alibobins · 28/01/2010 13:24

crumpette well done on James weight gain Jacob now weighs same as what James did at birth looking at him made my eyes water lol.

Vent away about Dp thats what we are here for x x

mistletoekisses · 28/01/2010 14:12

CTFN - I second the thank you on keeping the thread so well updated! Cannot believe Jan is already nearly over.

Ali - I honestly think all bubs are different. Nico is still quite erratic, but then I think they tend to be for the first 6 weeks. Like Crumpette, I am feeding on demand, certainly until the 6 week growth spurt hits and passes, then it'll be routine time for us. At that point, I will try some techniques from the baby whisperer. And a dummy also.

Crumpette - you are a saint! How you have not hit that man with something large/ heavy and told him to ship out pronto is beyond me! You are a lesson in patience!

MMB- well done persevering on the bfeeding! 3 weeks in and am pretty exhausted. One week to go until I try and introduce a bottle for the dreamfeed like I did with DS1. Have decided not to express this time on top of the feeding and just give formula in that one bottle. Am less PFB this time round. Lets hope DS2 drinks without any issues!

Huge congrats to all the new arrivals. Time is flying by and before we know it, our LO's will be crawling around wreaking havoc!

OP posts:
CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/01/2010 14:14

Ali - a few days of being quite at the end of my tether with Olivia actually! She had been quite textbook feeding every 4 hours and up to taking between 3-4fl oz feeds. Did pretty much what you say Jacob is doing, feed, wind, awake for about 10 mins then sleep again - hence why I could post so much!

But the last few days she is really out of sorts - feeding much more frequently but only taking around 2oz a feed and trust me I simply cannot get anything more into her - she closes her mouth tight shut and if I try to encourage the teat in, she just spits the milk back out again. The whole winding process can go on for a couple of hours before I finally give up and put her down. As soon as I put her down she wakes from her wind induced coma and screams. I pick her up - she stops!!!

Yesterday she had LOADS and LOADS and LOADS of awake time. Just lying (whilst being held or on my lap or something) and just looking around... but I can't put her down in her chair, cot etc. It's really wearing. Last night she did sleep lovely though, just waking for her feed every 3 hours but it means I only get about an hour sleep myself between because of the winding time. This mornign has been like yesterday so far but having fed her an hour ago, I got a couple of burps and put her straight down to sleep and didn't persist in winding, even though I know she has wind there. She's still asleep (phew).

DH has had to go into town for meetings the past couple of days (usually works from home) so hasn't been able to help much and has had an upset stomach himself so completely knackered. Thankfully he has taken tomorrow off and tells me I have to go to bed around 7 tonight and sleep until I've recovered. He will do night feeds etc.

Because of the c/s I can't drive yet so he has been doing the school run for me - thank god because feeding times are now so erratic they are coinciding with school run times!

Anyway - sorry for my vent but I am just soooooo tired and exhausted today. Have struggled to get a cup of tea and now can't even be arsed to go and wash bottles, sterilise etc. My "me time" has become MN!

Oh well - onwards and upwards.... it's really nothing compared with what WMDO is going through.

alibobins · 28/01/2010 14:38

Sometimes I think he is only feeding for comfort as he sucks a few times then nothing. I've tried to introduce a dummy several different ones but they just make him gag.
This afternoon he fed at 12 took 3oz then from 1.30 cried and was opening his mouth for bottle tried bouncing walking changing his nappy but he wouldn't settle in the end I gave up and offered him a feed as going out to school soon and he took an ounce argggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/01/2010 14:44

Does sound a bit of a comfort suckle thing doesn't it Ali? I had that with Olivia from early on and introduced the dummy, which she has taken to. Trouble is, that brings its own problems because when it falls out of her mouth whilst asleep or trying to get to sleep, she goes mad until it's put back in! Cue - even more disrupted sleep for CTOFN! I spend much of the night with my arm draped in the moses basket trying to feel for dummy in the dark and then work out where her mouth is - she's lucky she hasn't had the dummy up her nose yet!

alibobins · 28/01/2010 14:49

I'm beginning to feel like a zombie not long now till my night off Dh does Sat nights x x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/01/2010 14:56

Deffo zombie land here! She is absolutely gorgeous don't get me wrong and I adore her to bits but today, just feeling so ridiculously exhausted and a bit emotional because of it. Struggling to lift myself off sofa. Still, have a new box set of Sex and the City to keep me relatively occupied... oh, and the joys of chasing up a mobile phone for DS for his birthday next week which miraculously went missing in DHL's hands two weeks ago and never got delivered . Trying to get O2 to do something about it - ie get me a new phone or give money back - is proving more than I can cope with right now
