ctofn I'm not b/f either with Jacob spending time in NICU I just didn't enjoy it.
I'm glad you posted that wanted to find someone to ask how many ounces/mils is olivia taking I'm really sruggling to get Jacob to take than 2/3oz every 3 hours x x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 24/01/2010 08:47

Hi Ali. Olivia started off taking 30ml (1oz) every 4 hours! She then started feeding every 3 hours so I increased her to 2oz, when she went down to 3 hour feeds again, I increased her to 3oz and now I make up bottles of 4oz but she always leaves around 1oz (btw she has always left quite a bit in a bottle which I don't mind because it keeps the wind intake down).

Out of the 4oz bottle, a lot of the time she might only take 2oz before she makes it clear that she's had enough. But if she does that, more often than not, she will want a feed earlier than the 4 hours.

So Jacob seems perfectly normal doesn't he?! I wouldn't worry at all. Given the start he has had, taking 2oz every 3 hours I think is pretty good going.

HTH.

alibobins · 24/01/2010 10:05

Thanks that really helps x x He gets weighed again tuesday so fingers crossed he put on.

Can't believe how fast the last 6 weeks have gone

CantThinkofFunnyName · 24/01/2010 10:19

I know. Olivia is 4 wks on Tuesday and the time is just flying. Shame my preg weight isnt flying as fast!

somewhathorrified · 24/01/2010 13:31

showme I found at about day 8 my legs had suddenly aquired ankles again, although I still have a bit of carpel tunnel.

I haven't dared the weighing scales yet, think I'll weight to have a few more BM before I get on them .

After FF on a bottle with this damn top up feeding I would never say FF is the easy option!

Anyone else struggling a bit with the hormones? I find that I get weepy and upset so much quicker now...not sure if it's lack of sleep or ppd.

crumpette · 24/01/2010 15:19

aaaargh I wrote a really long post

and it vanished

and I wrote a second one recalling the first one

and it vanished

so I will just say

hello everyone

have given up am going to throw laptop at the wall... [hormonal, me??]

x

crumpette · 24/01/2010 15:20

and typically that one has not vanished

FlightofFancy · 25/01/2010 12:54

Hi all,
It's amazing how many things there are to panic worry about with a little one!

So far, I've managed to convince myself of all sorts of stuff - reflux (actually normal 'posseting' combined with me not being very good a burping), thrush (actually not paying attention to latch giving me sore nip), and so on, and so on... latest one is trying to work out if jaundice has cleared (haven't been able to tell if yellow or just a bit sallow!) - as he was 37+3, counted as full term, so was supposed to have gone by 2 weeks old. HV is cutting some slack as she pointed out that 4 days earlier and he's have been down as prem, so would have had longer to get rid - and that it's not exactly lovely sunny weather outside!

Agree that I can't wait for it to get lighter so the night feeds are slightly less depressing.

Luckily the greedy piglet I've got has seen off quite a bit of the excess weight - though I think waking up in pool of sweat every night for first 2 weeks helps!

Now... trying to pluck up courage to take a hand mirror to bathroom and check out whether stitches have gone - haven't been brave enough to look since early days!

somewhathorrified · 25/01/2010 14:07

Yay, baby weighed (11days old now!) and is now just 15g under birthweight. So formula on back burner for a while to try and get my milk established.

Flight go on bite the bullet and check those stitiches, if they've gone and all's healed then it'll be such a relief.

crumpette I've had that before...I've taken to copying text before I press post if I lose one, just in case. Tbh if it did it today I'd probably just cry.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 25/01/2010 14:41

To all those asking about hormones - no, it's not just you - I think we're all suffering - I certainly am. Never usually a weepy person but have had floods of tears throughout the pregnancy and now they're carrying on. Crying at the most ridiculous things on TV and just because I'm tired. For goodness sake - get a grip girl!!!

shinybaubles · 25/01/2010 18:22

Hi everyone. Oliver is now over 4 weeks and has gained lots of weight now 4 kilos compared to 3.1 when he came home. He has had his hearing test and all is well. I am also ff and he is pretty easy going although got mild reflux and had colic for a week.
I however am feeling very strange but only about dh.

mistletoekisses · 25/01/2010 19:06

hi everyone

FOF - Nico and I have an appt with our GP because he is still a little jaundiced. Prolonged jaundice they call it at this stage. Apparently should be gone in 2 weeks. But am not worried, he is drinking lots of milk, is ver alert with plenty of poos/ urine. Have read a few places that bfed babies can show symptoms for longer. But they need to rule out any underlying infections. Go check the stitches, am sure they are much better by now!

SWH - Great news on the weight gain! lots of skin to skin and feeding on demand will get your supply up. Drink plenty of water and good food to ensure your calorie intake remains high enough.

crumpette - how are things with your dp?

shiny - yay to you and oliver too! cannot believe some of the bubs are already a month old!

I am feeling more human. Took Nico to DS1 nursery today and think i made them all broody! They adored him - so funny to think that Nico will be there before I know it! Cannot believe how fast Jan is going. Am sure Spring/ Summer is going to fly by!

to all.

Hi ladies I've had a really nice day with Jacob today we went a walk to the park then to meet up with some old friends

We've got our 6 week check up tomorrow which I'm glad about as Jacob is still really chesty saw doctor on fri who thought it could be a milk allergy (Ds1 allergic to lots) or silent reflux but wanted to see how he went over weekend.

Had some really good news re Dd's eyes the lump is just debris from all the inflamation and should be absorbed. The methotrexate is beginning to work and it should stop any more loss of vision but they can't repair the damage already done so will always have less vision in that eye but it doesn't stop her doing anything

On a lighter note, mw came out to dishcarge me and had a slightly slow student with her who spent a while irritating me (ok ok hormones again Im sure she was nice)

she said 'what method of contraception were you using before this pregnancy?'

so I said ' well obviously a rather ineffective one'

and I got a huge evil look [hehehe]

crumpette · 26/01/2010 14:39

Ali - sounds as though things are settling down. Great news about your DD. Hoorah!

Crumpette - wowser, that is a bit of a bombshell. Am not surprised that you were in tears for 5 hours! I would be in pieces tbh. to you.

Congrats to bigpreggybelly and natapillar!

I am shattered today - we have another growth spurt on our hands, cue relentless feeding every 1 1/2 - 2 hours. It is a phase and it will pass! Hope everyone else ok.

OP posts:
crumpette · 26/01/2010 16:00

mistletoe this one feeds constantly I realised just now I hadn't eaten all day, so put him down to go and find some food and he immediately started screaming and is now feeding again

ohmygoodness is it really just a phase? DD was never like this!

He is ever so good really, he only cries when he wants food, but all he does is eat or scream because he's hungry or sleep. He doesn't spend much time quiet and alert and not feeding...!

Congratulations natapillar and well done cantthink posting for updates!

crumpette · 26/01/2010 16:04

whensmydayoff wondering how you are, if you're about I hope things have settled down a bit with Olivia and you're getting some rest x

mistletoekisses · 26/01/2010 16:16

crumpette - it's interesting, but out of all my friends who have had bubs, the boys are such guzzlers compared to the girls.

I think it is defo a phase, I think DS is having his 2-3 week growth spurt. After his last one he settled back into 2 1/2 - 3 hour feeding patterns.

Am going to continue to go with the flow and feed on demand for the time being...growth spurts aside, i started baby whisperer techniques/ routines wth DS1 at 6 weeks, so will do something similar this time. Lets see how it goes! But i am finding that doing a 6pm bath/ feed gives me a good 2/3 hour sleep from him - so am going to get some zzz's from 7pm tonight. life, what life?
