crumpette How come none of your family know? I take it none of them live near you - either that or your one of these annoying people who has the tiniest bump ever

crumpette · 29/01/2010 14:21

mmb sorry x-posts again haha thanks for that tip. I have been feeling a bit about my defective boob as DD didn't like that side either!!! I will try different positions to maybe dupe him into liking it more. He does feed from it now it's healed, just doesn't seem to like it really and it would be nice to be even-breasted

crumpette · 29/01/2010 14:27

nappyaddict they don't live near me. I last saw them in July, am really not looking forward to the reaction!! But I almost think it's worth it really to have had a nice stress-free end of pregnancy and time with baby so far.

Alas no tiny bump (2nd pregnancy) but in my first pregnancy I met a friend for lunch near work and I was 34 weeks pregnant. Friend did not notice , wore wrap cardigan but didn't even breathe in! so funny. No such luck this time my abdominal muscles have clearly gone awol!

MissMarjoribanks · 29/01/2010 14:28

crumpette - had read the pill could interfere with bfing but didn't realise prog only was OK - I was on that before TTC and had no unfortunate side effects (well, no periods for 4 years but wouldn't call that unfortunate ) so may well rock up to the GPs surgery to sort out. TBH I'm probably not able to get pregnant again yet as I haven't had a period but I know you can ovulate before hand and I'm not willing to take the risk.

Right, definitely off to the park now, must stop messing about on mumsnet prevaricating.

can I join the wonky boob club! I'm desperately trying to get DS comfy feeding from the smaller one, which he seems to be doing, but the darn thing refuses to get bigger! I was supposed to be having my last MW appt today, but no sign of them. I hate wasting perfectly good nap time waiting for people to turn up.

lottie mmmmm chocolate, [drool emoticon]. How do you stand to live so close? Does your DH not bring you some home...that's a spare room offense imo

nappyaddict · 29/01/2010 15:12

crumpette I'm like - only just noticed this woman was pregnant and she is 33 weeks. I just thought she was fat

What about your local friends have they not been pestering you? I would love to do it in theory but all the parents of DS' friends from toddlers and playgroup would be asking me all the time!

crumpette · 29/01/2010 15:15

lottie !!!

Lindt is the best

funnily enough, I have just bulk bought some covent garden soup cartons (half price!) as have been living off bran flakes and stale pitta bread for 2.5 weeks

crumpette · 29/01/2010 15:19

nappyaddict have been 'very very busy at work' for a while so thus have avoided most people. Feel a bit apprehensive that some of my friends will be a bit upset I didn't even bother telling them I was pg, but hey a baby's no big deal

You probably could never get away with it if you see people on a regular basis but I'm sure you could add a month or even more to your dates with no trouble [am so evil ]

mistletoekisses · 29/01/2010 15:54

Hi everyone!!

Lots of posts! LOL at all the sex talk. I have so gotten my mojo back, but am still bleeding so need to wait. I had read somewhere that once the bleeding stops, you are good to go (to avoid risk of infection). Not sure how accurate that is!

crumpette - my visitor ban lifts tmrw am. First friend is coming over. Aside from mum and brother/ sil - have been visitor free! DH's family lives miles away so have been free to be a milk machine all day.

Re. the routines, am starting to put some bits into practice. Nico went into his room and his cot last night. He is such a noisy sleeper - he was starting to keep me awake and it was obviously a two way street - he slept for 3 hours for 3 stretches. Hoorah! But was wide awake from 5am, so today have started to limit daytime naps to 2 hour stretches .
The other things am trying to do from Baby whisperer is put him down to sleep semi awake and not feed to sleep (especially during day).
Aside from that, at this stage am still feeding on demand and no plans to change that until 8-10 weeks. Only one week until we intro one bottle feed a day. Am soooo hoping it works and gets me a 5 hour stretch sleep...

Lottie - so great to hear from you! I always take my hats off to parents of twins etc. I cannot imagine just how tough it makes things. But once they are a bit older - there is tons of positives. Friends of mine use creches/ nurseries much earlier as their LO's have one another.

Partyofseven - planning on making it eight?? My overwhelming need for another DC has been crushed by the tiredness/ milk demands of Nico. . Adore him, but I do love how hormones make you forget how tough the first few months are!

Welcome to all the newcomers. Have spent the afternoon watching the new series of brothers and sisters - made me cry..think I need to avoid all TV!!

nappyaddict · 29/01/2010 16:03

crumpette Are you not very good friends with any of your work colleagues though or do you work at home? Mine were a nightmare wanting to come over the day he was born - managed to get them to hold off til day 2 and 3!!

crumpette · 29/01/2010 16:38

ah nappyaddict, my colleagues are lovely, mostly, but rather more into spreadsheets and meetings than babies. Just the word 'pregnant' makes them recoil in horror also I am a master of 'ooh I'm terribly sorry, the battery on my phone died.. for 3 weeks... '

crumpette · 29/01/2010 16:41

I think I'm seeing one of my colleagues next week but she has strict instructions to only come over if she a. brings yummy biscuits and b. has read up on breast pads, maternity pads, nipple soreness, engorgement, colic etc!
I am the best contraceptive they will ever have haha

Newbeginning1 · 29/01/2010 16:53

Hi everyone, can i hibernate with you all?

DS was born on 26th December and is called Jack and is a little tinker with hollow legs and i definitely need to join the wonkey boob club.

How is everyone else finding motherhood? Im finding things tough at the moment and have been to the drs about it, i just want to enjoy DS again.

Just to make me jealous, how are your DC's sleeping? I'm sure DS thinks day is night and vice versa, either that or our room is way too exciting for him.

Lottie - routine kind of gal I am ! But so far, it's just not working!!! Another fairly unsettled day from Olivia. Managed pretty much OK until 16:30 when I got back from a mammoth walk and DD1 decided to get Olivia out of pram 15 mins before she was due a feed and she was sooooo unsettled. Couldn't get her to stop crying until 17:20 when I finally managed to get her to take a bit of a feed. Now she's back down desperately trying to sleep but keeps waking and crying. Think she might be over tired or some stubborn wind that's causing her tummy pain? Really not sure but she hasn't been her usual angelic self the past couple of days.

Also - the only part of the routine I really want to get sussed is the timing of feeds - am so not bothered about putting her down to bed at a certain time as she will be in our room for ages yet and that's on 3rd floor in loft conversion and for the evening we're way down below! As others have said, hanging out, plenty of cuddles at the moment is order of the day.

Guess what though ... I'm now off to the beauty salon for a 2 hour treatment of facial and full body massage!!! Will be back at 8pm just in time for sleep I think. Jealous anyone??

mistletoekisses · 29/01/2010 18:01

CTFN - am uber jealous. Have a fab time. Btw - can I ask, those of those FF, which brand are you using? How did you decide which one to use? Have defo decided that expressing on top of the feeding is going to be too much this time round. So am going to use formula for the bottle feed. Asked DH to pick up some Aptamil/ SMA Gold - one carton of each today to try and see how we get on.

Lottie - with DS1 we had to wake him religiously every 3 hours for feeds for the same reason. As such, he was like a robot feeding every 3 hours. With Nico, as he is healthy weight etc, we were told we could leave him up to 6 hours....I wish he'd give us the opportunity. today is the first time i have woken him; he was a tad grumpy.

I am trying a bedtime routine...Nico has his bath 15 mins before DS1, then another feed and then cot. Has only worked 2 nights so far...so no guarantee it will continue, but am trying to have both boys down by 7, so I get a few hours zzz's. Please let it keep working and not be complete fluke!

newbeginnings - welcome!
To answer your question- erratic sleeping pattern here (but have just come out of the 2-3 week growth spurt). As you may have read, am starting to wake Nico after 2 hours during day to try and make him get bulk os sleep at night. Are you doing ok otherwise? Is this DC your first?

OP posts:
Newbeginning1 · 29/01/2010 20:12

Mistletoekisses - fingers crossed for you that your routine keeps working, it sounds fab. With the feed before bed was that formula or bm? When Jack has formula he has cow and gate purely because my sister used it with her DD and it's better for gassy babies or so the HV says.

Jack is my 1st and completely unplanned. His father isnt interested in him but has seen him a few times since he was born but nothing for 2 weeks so its just me and him, anyone else going it alone in the 2010 mummies?

I really want to crack a nightime routine and get Jack sleeping by himsef as we're currently co sleeping so that i can have some me time. I really want to get rid of my uber attractive "apron" of flab and also sprawl out in my bed - pure bliss!!

Newbeginning1 · 29/01/2010 20:16

I've been looking for baby classes to get us out of the house and came across these people that do a free trial, might be worth a look if they're in your area.

rhythmtime.net/

Might be good when DC's are a bit older.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 29/01/2010 20:49

MK - I use SMA Gold but the only reason is that's why my mum bought for me with DS years ago when he wouldn't take from the breast and it was a panic buy! I then used it for DD - so no rocket science, just happened upon it really. They do say, however, that there is really nothing between all the brands - just clever marketing.

Newbeginnings1 - I was in the same position as you 11 years ago. Went it alone with my DS, father didn't want to know - but I coped and everything worked out just fine. Actually met my knight in shining armour when DS was 9 months old and now we're a much bigger happy family! I'm sorry that you're finding things tough at the moment. It happens to those of us with loads of support too so don't beat yourself up about it. But it is really positive that you've spoken to the GP about it. You haven't made your profile public - whereabouts are you based? We're all over the country on this thread so perhaps someone lives close to you and can meet up? I'm in North London btw - but can travel!

Soooo my pamper session was lovely and now back home (obviously) - but Olivia won't feed again! Very odd

JoInScotland · 29/01/2010 20:54

I have updated the arrival list below with my son's birth on the 19th. I went in for a lovely water birth, since I was "low risk" and ended up having not only an emergency caesarian, but going back into theatre to be opened up again due to a massive hemorrage. I required 14 units of blood, 2 of plasma and 4 of other blood products, and spent 6 days in the High Dependency Unit of the labour ward in Ninewells. We came home nearly a week to the hour from when I went into labour and we left for Ninewells.

Lottie - that's what Olivia is doing! I'm scratching my head and keep thinking she must have really bad wind because she is preferring the dummy to a feed at the moment. When she pulls away and screams her arms and legs flail about and is generally followed by LOTS of farting. Doing loads of Infacol to break the wind up but I'm also wondering if I'm over-feeding her? She was on a typical 4 hour feed cycle, then this week started 3 hourly and with the routine thing, I was going on 3 hourly - just because that's what Baby Whisperer says - but now I'm wondering if actually she's more a 4 hourly girl and just isn't interested in her feed before that? Sorry - that was appalling grammar and a really long sentence! But hey, can't be arsed to go back and correct it now .

For those BF... I just had a really nice glass of red wine ..
