hiall, sorry, am not finding time to read posts regularly or properly, but don't want to lose touch.

Still no name for our boy, who will be 2 wks on monday...

nothing interesting to report really, main struggle is trying to stop him being a snacker and disytinguishing tired from hungry.

i had bleeding nipples the first week, and tho thet are healing it still hurts when he latches, he is so strong. gained a whole pound in 5 days

I don't have a travel system, just a pramette and seperate car seat. don't think pramette would work for power walking...

somewhathorrified · 13/02/2010 12:32

ali I'm sure you are coping much better than you think you are. For those of us who are constantly told how strong we are it's really difficult when we are plunged into a situation where we can't convince ourselves that we are...have you noticed these times tend to involve a lack of sleep? the times where you are tearing your hair out or crying are just an extreme coping mechanism. perfectly legit!

Just a quick update from us, Baby Kitty is doing really well, she is such a placid baby. She has maintained her birthweight and I was so proud as I am breastfeeding. She feeds and sleeps really well and is just a delight.

I had my first day on my own today as DH was helping a friend move house and we went out for a walk in the big Silver Cross and met my parents for a coffee in a hotel. Almost summoned up the nerve for my first public BFing but lost it and went to the ladies cloakrooms where they have a lounge area to feed. I don't think the other guests were ready to see my mummy tummy... Took her to the supermarket in the sling this afternoon and she slept all the way through, it was wonderful although it took me 45 minutes to buy a very small amount of shopping despite having a list !

DH and I are having valentine's night tonight so I am going to try and get DD to sleep early

Does anyone know how long they recommend leaving "marital relations" when you have stitches ? I have a 3 layer continuous single stitch but I am itching to get back in the saddle

mama2moo · 13/02/2010 22:03

Hi all. I havent been on here for ages, I have a lot of catching up to do!

Babymoo is lovely and breast feeding is going brilliantly. It doesnt hurt anymore and I have finally worked out what her cries mean! She was 9lb 3oz on Friday! She is out of newborn clothes at 11 days old!

20mo dd is really trying my patience at the moment. One minute she is lovely to dd2 and then she will try to hit her or squash her. Next week is going to be tough when dp goes back to work

Did we hear from Maygirl?

MissMarjoribanks · 13/02/2010 22:24

Hello all - busy week here as had my mum up Monday to Friday and my sister Tuesday to Thursday, with much discussion of weddings (sis's) and babies (mine, obv). I drove to Sheffield (an 80 mile round trip) for a brides dress fitting for my sister, the longest journey I have been on with Thomas in the car, and brilliantly, he slept throughout both journeys. Was a bit scary on the way over as it started snowing quite heavily whilst going over the Pennines but we made it in one piece and my sister's dress is gorgeous.

Ali - hugs to you. Hope things improve.

CTOFN - like Crumpette I too have the Icandy Peach and it's fabby. I wouldn't necessarily describe the chassis as lightweight, but I don't think any travel system truly is. Great for walking though - we've been off road round a deer park and I've been caught in a snow storm with it and its managed both really well. My dad did ask when writing the cheque for my parent's kind contribution to it whether it had 'a f*ing engine', so not cheap.

Thomas went 10.30pm to 7am without a feed last night, albeit he screamed the place down non-stop between 8pm and 1am, when he finally dropped off. I'm not sure whether he slept through because he knackered himself or whether he's going to start dropping the night feeds. He's slept more than usual this evening, and is asleep now, so I do wonder if he's catching up. We'll see whether he goes straight off again after his next feed.

Fraochsmum · 13/02/2010 23:57

Hello Jaabaar! What a weight - really would love to hear your birth story!!!!
Wow MissMarjori, very jealous of Thomas sleeping so well x
CTOFN - I have a Silver Cross 3D, which is brill for getting around the shop/s and very lightweight. The car seat goes easily into the chassis and is light to carry.

alibobins · 14/02/2010 09:22

Happy Valentines day

Jabaar congratulations that is a fantastic weight Jacob doesn't weigh that and he's 2months lol

I'll finish post later grumpy has woke up x x

mistletoekisses · 14/02/2010 09:33

Happy valentines day all!! I know, know, tis cheesy and commercial...but am all loved up as DH ordered a dozen red roses!! and in equal quantities.
I want to say 'waste of money' but it has made me feel a million dollars post bub so is actually well worth it!

Tis snowing here again!! . Absolutely freezing, so we plan on venturing nowhere far today! Hope everyone is ok. And at those with bubs sleeping through!! You could set a watch by my guzzler waking every 3 hours!

Hope those with poorly bubs are doing better!

Hmmm - posted last night, but it didn't appear .

Fibilou - GET YOU! When you're ready I think is the typical advice - but if you've still got stitches, might be best to wait a bit?

My wedding anniversary today but DH doing rugby training for DS and the under 19s so I'm stuck with the ironing and preparing Sunday roast!

Welcome Jabaar. You've put yourself onto a really old list though. If you scroll back a page or so, you should find the most recent one and add yourself in the appropriate place there. And yes, in answer to your question, this is a postnatal thread for all the Jan babies (by due date rather than when they were actually born).

I also chose and bought a new travel system last night, which meets most, but not all requirements. It's the Britax B-mobile 4. Buggy that lies flat, car seat goes onto chassis and isofix, folds really small and is only 6.4kg - the lightest I could find! Had a little test in Mothercare yesterday and it was sturdy enough, turned well etc. I just wasn't keen on the colour . But found that I could order one in a lovely girlie green! Plus the buggy was only £175! Obviously once everything else was added on though, the ££££ started to increase.

Olivia is now around 9lb and 53.5cm so outgrowing most of her newborn stuff. I think she looks really chubby but that's probably just because she was so dinky at birth. Speaking of Olivia... it's feed time, so off I pop again.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone and MK - very of your dozen red roses!!! My wedding anniversary and I still don't get them... although I must say, we made a pact years ago that we wouldn't because of the expense around this time... and he does buy me flowers every month ... but still.... a little surprise would be nice wouldn't it... meh, I'm being v silly...

fibilou I was under the impression that if you have stitches it's best to wait til your 6 week check...although if your gagging for it you can always phone up the maternity ward/MW/HV and ask, I'm sure they won't mind

Tobin is obsessed with electric lighting, he sits there gawking at any lamps that happen to be on at the time...really cute, although annoying for feeding as either have to feed in the dark or spend the entire time trying to turn his head back in line with the rest of my boob as he doesn't let go of the nipple to turn!

Fraochsmum · 14/02/2010 17:10

Gonna make you jealous Mistletoe - Cara slept through last night!! I sat up to feed her then looked at the clock and realised it was 6.30am and she hadn't woken for her 3am woop woop! Mind you the sheets were soaked...and I slept through DH's pager going off so maybe she did wake up...
lol somewhat at Tobin x When Cara gets sleepy she shakes her head while still latched on, so I feel your pain.
Hope you all had/are having a nice valentines day

maygirl · 14/02/2010 17:55

quick one!
I had a daughter on tuesday, tough time, only home on friday.

Will catch up soon xxxxx

Tuesday 9th feb, DD 8 pounds 1 ounce

mama2moo · 14/02/2010 18:03

maygirl Congratulations, have been thinking about you. I hope all is ok and you are recovering well

Babymoo is sleeping loads in the day. She is 2 weeks old on Tuesday and I cant remember how much they are supposed to sleep!

Going to register her name tomorrow. What do you all think about 2 middle names? I really want my Grans name as a middle name but it doesnt go with dd's first name.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 14/02/2010 18:04

Maygirl - well done! My DD1s birthday - she was due 30 Jan 2003.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 14/02/2010 18:38

Mama2Moo - I think 2 middle names is absolutely fine. My DSS has two middle names - of both his grandfathers and my niece has two middle names. Her name is Lydia Mary Catherine. I think its lovely.

I also wanted my mum's name as a middle name for Olivia - its a bit old fashioned (Iris), but they'll hardly ever use it so I figured I'd put it in anyway!

How is everyone getting babies that are sleeping through the night?? ! And on breastmilk too!!! . Olivia is still feeding every 3 hours - maybe 4 to 4 1/2 at night if I'm lucky. Thing is, sometimes during the day she really won't take more than a couple of ounces so I know that's the main route of the problem - but what can I do? She just closes her mouth and spits the milk out

alibobins · 14/02/2010 19:04

Congratulations Maygirl hopefully everything is okay now

CTOFN Jacob is alot better at night than in the day he has 3oz at around 8 then sleeps to between 12.30 and 2 then he wakes again 3-4 hours later he winds then sleeps.

At the moment he wakes himself up coughing.

In the day he is a rubbish feeder he drinks between 2 and 3oz every 3ish hours.

mistletoekisses · 14/02/2010 19:57

Congrats maygirl

Lucky ladies with your good sleepers! I expect next to no sleep tonight. My little man has grizzled and fed almost hourly today...hello 6 week growth spurt methinks!!! Anyone else there???
He is normally in his cot by now and i am in the land of nod with earplugs in! No such luck tonight, back on boob having another snack.

DH has a pretty full on week at work, so have told him to get to bed without doing dreamfeed and I think the only way i will get any sleep is to co sleep tonight! I think it'll be a long night!!!!

Lottie - I know what you mean about the buggy situation - funny how both you and DH are probably feeling the same but don't want to voice .

My buggy was totally bugging me - ooh, bit of a pun?! I didn't want to appear ungrateful as a really good friend gave me the buggy (a Mothercare Urban Detour from about 5 years ago), complete with car seat, sheepskin liner, footmuff, raincover - plus a whole bunch of other stuff and it is gorgeous and spotless. But being a 3 wheeler, the tyres keep going flat, the brake sticks on one of the tyres, it is soooo heavy and the seatbelts in our car lock very easily so trying to get the car seat in and out (no base unit) has been driving me absolutely frigging mad. Each time I lift the buggy into the boot I also feel my section scar pull and tingle so that's really not good. Have to wait until the end of February for my new one to come - its going to be a long couple of weeks

I am also nowhere near getting Olivia to sleep through the night. She was titchy at birth, like some others here, her stomach can only take so much milk and in the day she takes anything between 2-4oz, although most of the time I struggle to get her to take more than 2! Oh well, can't force these things and it will come in the end. Think I'm going to upload a couple more pics of her because I adore her so much !

mistletoekisses · 15/02/2010 08:48

Morning all!!

Last night was not as bad as I feared. But you can definitely set a clock by my LO! every night for the past week, he wakes at 1.24 and 4.20 (or within mins of those times, I kid you not!). With such strong internal body clock of waking every three hours, I know that we are going to have to work at making him drop night feeds. No way he is dropping them himself.

Lottie - how annoying about the buggy. Is it worth trying to sell it on ebay and simply buy another one?

CTFN - how are you feeling after your section now? I have to say that the recovery for me the second time round is much harder. By this time with DS1 i was doing heaps. This time, I am really still having to watch the scar.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
