hahaha to the horse manure.
I don't like croydon. When we drive to the ikea through it, it looks gross. Then, inside of Ikea, everyone is touching everything, then wiping their noses or catching their sneezes and touching more stuff. I took Q to change his nappy and about 1/3 of the people who used the toilets washed their hands (baby changing room was occupied). I was just having a bad ocd-germ day.

I ordered the book ksal and it doesn't guarantee a good cake right away - just a warning!

Pistachio - Have you mentioned your PND in your letter to the court service? If you have then I can't see how they could force you into jury service. I don't know if speaking to someone at the court service might help. I am raking my brains as to who be the best people to speak to. I'd know if you were a witness but as you can imagine, as an employee of the Crown is wasn't allowed to be in touch with members of the jury. If the court service stay stubborn, which they might do, maybe contact the CAB. The stress and worry is making you ill, that is a big big reason to allow you to defer. Aside from the obvious effect on your mental health (which is of course the most important factor), you would also be a pretty rubbish juror in that state!

50ftQueenie · 24/01/2010 13:07

Just seen the time you posted Pistachio. I hope you haven't been feeling terrible for that whole time. I've been out this morning otherwise I would have replied sooner. It will work out, it has too. It would be totally unreasonable to expect you to serve as a juror when the very idea is causing you such mental anguish. If all else fails, threaten to go to the press. That seems to work when 'they' wont let you get your own way. It certainly worked for me when the hospital were being restrictive about M visiting me to bf.

aubergenie · 24/01/2010 14:03

Pistachio, I was going to ask whether you'd mentioned your PND. If necessary, do you think your doctor would write a note saying that this is having a detrimental effect on your recovery? I don't know much about jury service, but surely they couldn't force you to do it if it would make you ill. Did they give any indication of how long you'd have to wait for a response to your letter?

It's great that you're starting to feel better generally so it must be an awful shock to be knocked back like this.

Pistachio, it's not a waste of resources. You've said yourself that you never go to the doc unless absolutely necessary. This is making your PND worse. And if you do go to the doc this time it'll be because it is necessary. Don't feel bad about that. it's not as though you're making it up.

Good to know you've got your mum on your side too.

StarExpat · 24/01/2010 19:45

Oh pistachio I'm so glad you got to see your mother today, though I agree with aubergenie re the gp letter.

I'm making hte choc heartache cake. But no parchment paper... it's always something... argh. I hope it turns out ok.

oh my GOODNESS!!!!! I MADE A CAKE I MADE A CAKE I MADE A CAKE AND IT TASTES GOOD AND IT DIDN'T STICK, EITHER!

I'm going to bring it to work tomorrow and make people try it and then tell them it's aubergines instead of fat. I'm so proud of myself! I cannot believe this! It tastes amazing though DH, who knew something was "up" says it's just "ok" fine then, he doesn't have to eat it!

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/01/2010 20:31

Give him a slice tomorrow star - he'll like it more then! I never line my baking tins. I have really good springform ones, and just stick a bit of sunflower oil around them and hope for the best. They haven't stuck yet.

Hugs for pistachio. Agree with what others have said.

Whose dc has 16 teeth? Dd (2 1/2) only has 16 still . Ds has only got 6 (well the last time I got a proper look in his mouth that that is - he bites now)

I have put that cake book on my birthday present list. It sounds fantastic!

Pistachio - I'm really sorry to hear about the jury service and the effect on your pnd. There is absolutely no way they could force you against health reasons, though so get the letter about pnd and force the issue.

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/01/2010 20:36

[bbiscuit]
just thought I'd try out the smileys!
pistachio - i agree with everyone else, clearly you can't attend and that should be the end of it.
re the cakes! they all sound lovely.
We've had a quiet weekend after the funeral on friday. it went as well as you'd expect, although, because DHs gran used to live in our house, ti was very odd to have lots of people who had stayed here etc over the years, and knew my house, but I'd never met them before. most strange.

StarExpat · 24/01/2010 21:14

is it the cherry almond one you froze? How do you defrost cake? Put it in the microwave? I tried batch cooking meals and freezing and I did not like the taste when it was defrosted. I'd rather just spend a few extra mins cooking. However, cakes would be a different story, though. I may start batch cooking desserts.
You are all turning me into a sweets-eater

Pistachio - I hope you get jury duty sorted and they tell you that you are excused. It's so hard when you have something like that weighing on your mind. Perhaps you should get the gp letter to sign you off for the next year or 6 months or however long so that you don't have to worry over getting another letter very soon. Thinking of you and sending you hugs even though they're not encouraged on MN.

Gah marking my place as I lost the thread again. Very busy weekend, mainly good. Spent lots of today working though which is baaad, the threat of OFSTED and associated pressure has finally reached the Nursery. Now if I could just have all the 3 yr olds writing their names and counting to 10 I'd be fine Bloody OFSTED

Am thinking I need to buy the cake book as you are all making me very hungry but am wondering when I'd get chance to make them. Bloody OFSTED threat

Am off to stomp around.
