hurray! The British gas man is here!!!! We're carefully locking the doors so he can't escape....
The cure seems to involve hot water and towels - made me laugh, don't think the men get it though...

Great news Pepper. Hope you'll all be warm as toast very soon!

50ft that you felt like that. Like Pepper said, I bet your DH didn't care. Did you tell him how you felt?

On a practical note. When I had my melanoma removed, I had a big scar on my leg which was really lumpy-bumpy and red. They prescribed me something called haelan tape which they said would help it. I ended up not taking it because it contains a steroid and I was pg and I wasn't sure if it was OK. I don't know if they could give you something similar. (The doc did say that in the meantime any kind of oil massaged in would help to smooth it down, and over time it looks loads better. But you probably know that as you've had a CS.)

Star - Did you start the wake to sleep thing last night? Dp didn't want to do it because he had to get up for work this morning and S slept all the way through till ten past 7! Don't know if it's a coincidence but I'm defitely bundling him up in loads of clothes and blankets again tonight.

KSal · 08/01/2010 14:58

hello, been reading but not posting. just wanted to respond to a couple of things myjob said:

i have had the swine flu letter for emma and after a bit of humming and ha-ing we have decided to go for it assuming she is healthy on the day. Its booked for tuesday at midday, so i can let you know how it goes! this is from the POV of someone who has taken their DD for all injections offered so far including MMR and had no adverse reactions at all. just thought i'd let you know!

also, emma had a rash sounding very similar to what you describe N as having and also limited to the torso. It was about 2 weeks ago now and was after a period of general snottiness and being under the weather... i was inclined at the time to think it was a comination of going from cold to warm a lot and some sort of post viral thing. She seemed fine in herself and it went away in a few days, but was a bit unnerving. I would just keep an eye on it to see if it progresses and check her temp every now and again but hopefully it will just go

KSal · 08/01/2010 15:03

ooh also forgot to say myjob that one of the reasons for going for the jab is because emma is in nursery and (in my mind) more likely to be exposed to the bug.

to be honest i'm not completely convinced that we haven't already had it, we were all very ill for a week a month or so ago with flu + vomiting symptoms.

aubergenie · 08/01/2010 15:28

I forgot to answer your question myjob. In the very unlikely event that anyone bothers to contact us to invite S to have the swine flu jab I don't think we'll be taking them up on it. We haven't sorted out the MMR yet either, as I want to wait till S is completely well before he gets it.

I'm sitting her twiddling my thumbs a bit as S is still fast asleep. It's been 2 and a quarter hours. Miracle! I've done loads of cleaning and made some phone calls but don't want to start anything else in case he wakes up.

StarExpat · 08/01/2010 16:18

Yay for the good sleep, aubergenie. I didn't do the wake to sleep because I forgot to wake up

Q had a good 3hour 15 min nap. He is still tired. I think it's because he's ill. Aubergenie Q sleeps LOADS better when he's well warm. Our house is very warm and he is dressed up all warm, too.

myjob that you'd think of our staircase in such a naughty way

YAY for the heating pepper!

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/01/2010 17:25

Please tell me that you haven't been without heat all this time just because your radiators needed bleeding pepper?!

1hr10min nap for ds today, but that was in town this morning because he was up at 5:30 . He should be well ready for bed by 7!

Can I ask for opinions please. How many satsumas a day would you consider to be too many for a 15 month old?

OP posts:
StarExpat · 08/01/2010 17:31

Last time Q was eating satsumas like crazy he got a terrible, terrible nappy rash and very acidic poos So, not sure. He's been clear now for a while. We gave him one satsuma today just to see what will happen - if it indeed was those or something else. I know it sounds mean but he loves them and if it was coincidence I'd rather know iyswim.

I'm trying to write reports from home... ughhh the work keeps piling up Maybe snow days aren't lovely after all

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/01/2010 17:33

Oh bugger pepper - I've just seen your fb status .

oh pepper!!

We have a very small 1 bed flat - but it's warm and we will happily have you and your family here to keep warm. I just can't remember where you live - it it's not to far... well, I think you are quite far... but in all seriousness. I don't want you all to freeze, so if you're near, consider it. We can order pizza or something and camp out in our living room

StarExpat · 08/01/2010 17:49

sorry if it's not far...
Actually I think you life by csws right? If so, that's not far! Consider it if it's cold!!

pepperrabbit · 08/01/2010 18:09

You're very kind star.
Well they came out lunchtimeish, decided that the difuser pipe was frozen - we have a condenser boiler so small amounts of water condense and drip through to the soil pipe (apparently...) you can see on the outside of the house there is literally 3 inches of pipe without insulation, and this has frozen apparently. BUT they are not allowed to climb up the ladder to fix it.... (please bear in mind ladies that British Gas FITTED the boiler 5 years ago for us...). So DH has to climb a ladder armed with my hairdrier and thaw the pipe bit - quite successfully, but of course they have gone by then.
We go indoors and the damn thing won't start AT ALL.
we now have another call out for tomorrow, but have tonight to get through in the meantime .
I'm thinking for DD tights under her sleepsuit with a long sleeve vest + grobag + blanket?

StarExpat · 08/01/2010 19:31

I'd put Q in a vest, those babygap like shirt with bottoms that are quite fitted pajamas under a big warm sleepsuit in a growbag with a blanket.
for you, pepper. Is the pipe just going to freeze again overnight? They should put insulation around that or something... their responsibility!! I can't believe they would just let you suffer through another night and day without heating with children... and a BABY!

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/01/2010 19:46

Pepper lives by Ekka iirc star, not me. It's KSal who's near me.

We've been trying to keep ds to 3 or occasionally 4 satsumas, but it's hard work as he literally cries for more!

OP posts:
StarExpat · 08/01/2010 19:51

I thought Ekka lived nearby, too because she went to Godstone with us.
I do hope you are able to be warm through the night - maybe if you all sleep in one room with both radiators plugged in? I think that's what I'd do!

CSWS that's a lot of satsumas It probably can't hurt unless too acidic digesting them.

Pepper, just seen all the boiler issues. If you are freezing you are welcome to come over to ours and camp out. It would definitely be rather cosy, but I'm sure we could squeeze you all in somehow!

yep, myjob - confirmed here, too It was the satsumas/clementines/oranges that gave Q the red bum. I won't be giving them again for a while. He really loved wolfing them down tonight, too. Metanium time.

pepperrabbit · 08/01/2010 21:09

ah we'll be fine, everyone seems to be asleep (everyone under the age of 6 that is!) DH and I have had a takeaway and are drinking wine.
Just think it's going to be soooo cold in the bathroom!
So, does everyone have snow still? Ours has not gone down at all, I'm developing some fantastic icicles on the gutter above the tumble dryer outlet though - the DSs wanted to use them as swords

StarExpat · 08/01/2010 21:16

myjob - oh good! Well, not good, but good that it's common. So do they outgrow it? I don't want him to be banned from them indefinitely.

pepper - our snow hasn't gone down but we don't have loads. Not like your pics! It covers the ground - we can't see any grass or pavement, but it's not a lot iyswim.
Glad you're having some wine to warm you up. You should brew some mulled wine to keep very warm. Can you use your stove? I remember playing with icicles as a child . Friends from america are calling me and asking what's going on - 3 snow days and when I describe the conditions they laugh so hard!! It is rather amusing, but I think the UK is just not prepared for this sort of thing... why should they be?? It's so uncommon. I'm just rolling with it..

But you know how spending too much time with someone is just too much? well, 2 weeks 24/7 with DH was enough and I was ready for a break and snow days are nice and lovely for Q and for us, but I'd love a day just me at home with Q!! Is that horrible??
