Just thought that I would get this started before the ante-natal thread gets filled up, not that I've had much time to post since I had DS but others might be able to multi-task better than I can!

foxyjbro99 · 02/01/2010 08:41

Happy New year everyone.
Just wondered if any of you had swine flu jab when you were pregnant?
Thanks

Moosy · 02/01/2010 09:01

I did foxy, at about 38/39 weeks. No side effects except a hurty arm for a few days.

Kingsroadie · 02/01/2010 10:12

I did too foxy - no probs here either! All those struggling with the reflux/colic thing - I think my daughter might have something like that. She is 5 weeks and bottle fed on aptamil as I got thrush so badly for 4 weeks I had to stop feeding her - I expressed exclusively until 3 weeks and gradually milk has stopped (that whole debacle is another snoring story though!) anyway she is very windy in general and seems to puke after most feeds. But mainly she seems to get very uncomfortable with wind. Arching back, straining, going red in the face, flailing around, grizzling and generally sounding in pain poor thing. Not sure what to do - have been struggling with her this morning for 2 hours - she hasn't fed properly and won't settle. Infacol doesn't seem to work and gripe water doesn't seem too do much either. Looking online she seems to have symptoms of reflux and hiccoughs A LOT very violently and sometimes each hiccough produces puke too. She has just puked up the oz I just fed her. Is reflux normal for most babies?! Can a dr prescribe anything? I can imagine they'll just say it's normal wind and I'll just have to work through it... Sometimes she' okay, others awful!

Sorry to bang on but would really appreciate advice from anyone with experience! Thank you! Hope everyone well and happy new year.

Scorps · 02/01/2010 10:20

Lacey was born Wednesday at 2248 after 2 hr labour at my parents house with a friend there 7lb 13oz. She is beautiful bf going v well

I had jab whilst pg all fine

re reflux - gp can prescribe you different formula and help - just go to gp they will help

my milk is just coming in bit sore and emotional etc. He has met her for an hour but wants to see her today too. Haven't got a middle name yet.

GoldenSnitch · 02/01/2010 10:34

My MIL suggested vaseline for nappy rash and after a few days of trying Sudocrem and other nappy rash creams, I gave it a go and Catherine's bottom cleared up within a day!!

I think it acts like a barrier to the poo/wee so it stops it getting any sorer and the skin sorts the rash out itself.

Not got too much experience with reflux or colic - DS had it but only very mildly - but I had heard that laying them face down on your lap and patting their backs gently can help. That and carrying them round face down over your arm - head on the crook of your elbow and hand supporting the groin - to try to shift the wind. It always seemed to help DS at least.

Congratulations on the birth of Lacey Scorps. Hope she's the bright start to your new year that you need.

Scorps · 02/01/2010 10:42

I like bepanthen too, although be sure it's not nappy area thrush because you need other cream fr that. Thrush looks spotty pinky shiny ish. Google image it. Lacey is a little sore too.

mwncigirl · 02/01/2010 10:49

hello everyone and happy new year!

I'm feeling very happy today as we've just had the midwife visit and baby johnny has finally put on some weight! Hooray! didn't help that the midwife was putting lots of pressure on and threatening a visit to the consultant! the breastfeeding must be working after all!

congratulations scorps

i've asked to be a join the fb group too.

Moosy · 02/01/2010 12:09

Kingsroadie, that's sounds very very much like reflux, go to the GP, they'll probably give you Gaviscon to add to each bottle which will help the milk settle in her tummy and not spill out again!

All requests for the FB have been done, shall we start a list on there on who is who?

Kingsroadie · 02/01/2010 12:48

Congrats Scorps! Yes really hope dh isn't being too horrid and that he leaves you in peace...

Thanks everyone for advice! There is an aptamil comfort milk which is designed for colicky babies etc and is a bit thicker and whey based and with less lactose so might give that a go too. Am seeing HV tmrw at the baby clinic so will mention it there.

Also am still bleeding red blood at 5 weeks and 2 days after birth (it had stopped for about 2 weeks after about 18 days but has come back). Is this normal?! Could be a period I think but is pretty light - pantyliner changed 3/4 times a day maybe. Also I have become a bit sore down below when I was previously fine - around perineum feels tender although I had no perineal damage at all. Am worried it could be some sort of infection and am going to sit in bath with tcp in a bit. Sorry for tmi and incessant requests for advice - I fully intend to bother the HV tmrw but again wondered if anyone had any experience..

Congrats to everyone on the babes and if anyone still waiting good luck

bluesatinsash · 02/01/2010 14:07

Hi girls, Can I also join you post-natally?

I've lurked back and forward since April but vowed not to join another ante-natal after having to bow out of due in April and Aug 09 due to MC.

I was due on 18/12/09 and DS2 Benjamin Charles was born on 23/12/09 at 1034 weighing 8lb 3oz. Had another v. long and painful labour ending up in another c-section but all worth it in the end. Look forward to sharing ups and downs.

Will be back later, DS1 is demanding I put laptop away!

Catz · 02/01/2010 14:43

Hi all,
congratulations to the new arrivals.
Kingsroadie - I think it's perfectly normal for bleeding to stop for a bit but come back so it might just be that. Do you have your 6 week check coming up? you can ask them to check you then. I've been having shallow baths with lavender and tea tree essential oils which has helped and smells nicer than tcp!

All fine here at 3 wks 5 days. BFing has gone well and he is still sleeping virtually constantly - becomes a little ball of red faced rage if awake for more than 45mins at a stretch! Is that normal? I have a copy of gina ford someone gave to me and she seems to think they should be awakw for 7 hrs a day or similar - DS would explode. DH is back to work on Mon but DD has mon tues at nursery so Wed will be my first full day with both... a bit nerve wracking. DD is very happy to have a baby in the house and loves 'helping' which is nice but scary as it tends to involve her trying to drop huge plastic toys into the cot for him to 'play with'! I'm spending most of the time trying to defend him without upsetting her.

Will join the fb group but my fb page hasn't been updated for 2 yrs so is very boring! will try to put some pictures up.

Claire236 · 02/01/2010 17:13

I'm now wondering if ds2 could have reflux. He hiccups loads & is being sick more & more frequently. He now cries pretty much all the while he's awake & is a nightmare to feed. We've tried Infacol & Colief neither of which makes any difference as well as trying different bottles & formula. I'd also been thinking about trying the Comfort formula but I'm sure I've heard negative things about it in the past just can't remember what. Any suggestions/opinions gratefully received particularly as we got to the point today where dh said he wished we hadn't had another baby & while I felt awful on ds2s behalf I also felt really guilty as I can totally see why he feels like that. Things are really not going well & I'm finding it hard to believe they'll get better.

Mybox · 02/01/2010 19:18

Hello everyone - here bf & having a moment before reading a bedtime story!

sparklycheerymummy · 02/01/2010 22:06

claire my dd ws like that and is the most delightful little girl ever! The worst advice i had was from hv saying try this that and the other. warmth and hugs and warm baths and warm towels helped a little but she was weaned at 3.5 months and changed overnight. little and often with milk was easier and distraction free feeding times. your ds2 might be like my dd.... a busy bright and nosey child waiting to grow up!!!!!! sure my dd was just over stimulated at times!!

bluesatinsash · 02/01/2010 22:32

Claire - feeling for you . My DS1 was wrongly diagnosed with reflux but I read everything there was to know on subject at the time. If your DS2 is fretting at every feed, bringing lots of milk up and generally unsettled it could be. I would make an appointment asap with HV and get some baby gaviscon. You just add it to his bottle and it provides a protective layer on his tummy to stop milk and acid coming back up.

The early days and weeks are hard, not always knowing what is wrong with them when they cry. As my Mum says "this too will pass"

BexieID · 02/01/2010 23:11

Erin Rebecca was born at 1:55am on Tuesday 22nd December (was due xmas day), weighing 7lb 3oz. Big brother Tom weighed 9lb 2oz! I had a 2nd degree tear this time after having a 3rd degree tear the first time. I've also had a cold and am up all night coughing or breastfeeding. Stitches have been sore as well. Last time I was dosed up on painkillers!

Tom used to arch his back, but never had reflux/colic. Erin does really explosive poos as well. She groans when feeding and has hiccups alot.

BexJ78 · 02/01/2010 23:26

hey everyone. have sent a request to join FB group. initials are REG and pic is of me, DH and Anna infront of xmas tree! Hope you are all ok. we are going really well apart from when anna has to go to bed, which is becoming a real battle. was up from 10 til 3 with her last night. DH is back at work though next Monday so think we should try to get her tobed at same time evry night...at mo, it seems to be a diff time ever night and don't think it helps.... She has lots of hiccups, bu did whilst i was pg and is sick a fair bit but not loads. It is just the bedtime crying that is doing my head in.

Claire236 · 03/01/2010 09:58

sparkly - he certainly is alarmingly alert & nosey for a 5 week old. He appeared to be having a good look round him when he was 30 mins old even though I know he couldn't see a lot.

blue - seeing hv on Weds but going to see GP tomorrow as think his sore bum is more than just nappy rash & hv is very nice but not much help.

sparklycheerymummy · 03/01/2010 11:44

BEXIE..... OUCH AT COUGHING WITH STITCHES!!! I am sore again down there and also have period like pains!!!!!!!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/01/2010 12:46

Hey everyone.
Congratulations on the birth of Lacey Scorps.

Ive not been on in a while, Elizabeth was took into hospital by ambulance a couple of days ago. She's still there but I have come back for a much needed bath (the hospital shower doesnt quite cut it!)
They arnt going to let her out till she goes through the night without oxygen. Her feeding is doing loads better now though.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.
