Just thought that I would get this started before the ante-natal thread gets filled up, not that I've had much time to post since I had DS but others might be able to multi-task better than I can!

Lee, have you tried Lanisoh for your nipples?? What kind of pain is it and when during the feed?

I get a pain when ds first latches on which I think is just the let down of my milk because it eases after a few suckles. Sometimes towards the end of a feed if his latch slips iyswim then it hurts again and I have to reposition him but this feeling is totally different to the initial pain. The initial pain can be pretty bad, esp if I feel really engorged, but it goes within seconds. The other pain is more of a chafing sensation, a bit like wearing uncomfortable shoes.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ladies.
Moosy-Have sent request to join FB group.

ABF-Hope DD is better soon, hope you ate ok too.

Re colic/reflux. im going through similat too, Ellis never seems settled when he is awake, only settles when he is being rocked, used to arch his back during and after a feed, was never sick but signs pointed to silent reflux. Took him to GP, who although is a lovely bloke, is very 'old school' and said he didnt even think reflux/colic actually existed . He said he could prescribe Infant Gaviscon, but peferred a 'wait and see' approach, very helpful-not. I did my own research on the net and think i have it virtually cracked with a combination of Infacol, Dr Browns bottles (had to give up the bf unfortunately but thats another story)and a cushion under the sheet of his moses basket and crib as screaminf=g was always worse when he was laid totally flat, i also place cushion under his head when i do nappy changes. He still doesnt settle well between feeds during day, wont lie on his playmat or sit in his bouncy chair, i usually end up putting him in sling so i can get jobs done and see to DS1 still.

madmissy · 03/01/2010 22:08

Gosh well brodie feeds every 2.5 hours to 3. At night if he's in bed with me 4 at push. He has anything from 2 to 4 oz a time. He was 9lb 4oz a week ago.
From reading some posts i'm so lucky this time around i'm having no colicky probs so far anyway!
Has anyone had any contact with lolijana? Just wondered how she's getting on and if she got the natural birth with the twins.

LaDiDaDi · 03/01/2010 22:57

Ds feeds every 2-3 hours in the day but sometimes will snack/feed constantly for a couple of hours. A proper feed will last from 30min to an hour. Last night he seemed to feed every 90min though I keep thinking that it couldn't have been that often . He seems less satisfied at night and I think that part of this is because I feed him lying down and i think that we both seem to fall asleep and he comes off the breast because he is cosy and sleepy rather than because he has a full tummy so he wakes up again quickly when the cosiness wears off and the hunger kicks in iyswim.
He has been asleep since approx 8.30-8.45pm and I will wake him up before I go to bed for a nappy change and a feed. Will need to be up promptly tomorrow as have to try to get dd to nursery for 9am, will be peed off if I manage to get there and it is closed because of snow!

Hi Annie . Sorry to hear Ellis has reflux but it sound slike your doing everything right to relieve him..

ABF - hope Elizabeth gets home soon, you must have been very frigtened havnig her taken away in ambulance. What a beautiful name .

re: feeding - Benjamin is 10 days old and feeding pretty much every three hours. He cluster feeds in the evening where he can feed every hour between 7 and 11pm. He slept from 12 til 5am last night which I'm sure is a fluke and my left boob nearly exploded! Really hope I've come through the worst of establishing breastfeeding. Last weekend was v. hard when milk came in and I was v. engorged. One week on the pain lasts only for the first initial latch on and few sucks but Benjamin can take up to 10 minutes to latch on which midwife says is due to me still being a bit engorged. The toe curling pain has thankfully eased though .

We're also struggling to settle him at night and I had him in with me last night and he slept like, well a baby . Would never have done that with DS1 as was terrified of getting into bad habits but I'm more chilled and to be honest would rather we all had a good nights sleep than us sitting settling DS2 for hours and hours.

Cliare - how was your Ds2 today?

docket · 04/01/2010 12:04

Hi ladies, can I join you? Hope everyone is well today.

I was on the ante natal thread at the beginning then life got in the way, lost both PIL this year and are moving house too. Anyway, ds2 (James) was born 6th December, 2 and a bit weeks early which was totally unexpected as my other two were both 2 weeks late.

He's lovely, feeding like a demon (I'm hoping last night's almost constant feeding can be put down to a growth spurt...). ds1 and dd are so far adapting well to life with a new brother. I had however forgotten all about the hideous effects of total sleep deprivation and am reminding myself constantly that it will pass and then I'll yearn for those snuffly newborn days...

Lacey has only lost 4oz since birth very pleased

had an awful shitty time. Got admitted to hospital with sspected appendicitis and they wouldn't let me take lacey een though she is exc bf. I kicked up hugely and in the end I was apartfrom her fr 4 hrs. We got put in private maternity bit. I have a uterine infection and I'm anaemic.

My life is amazing.

Moosy · 04/01/2010 13:28

HV visited to weigh Fizzy today, she's started losing weight again despite having regained her initial lost weight. She's 4 weeks old and back down to 2.5oz below her birth weight so we got sent to the doctor who checked her over and told me to top her up with formula. I really don't want to have to but know it's neccessary as I don't want to starve her! Getting her weighed again in a week.

madmissy · 04/01/2010 14:10

scorps are you in hospital now? can't believe they were going to seperate you, i really hope that you get better soon

Claire236 · 04/01/2010 20:23

Scorps - saw your other thread. Glad you got to be with Lacey but sorry you're having such a crap time of it. Hopefully Lacey's going to be an angel of a baby as you deserve it

Moosy - I had to top up ds1 which was really disappointing but hopefully it will only be short term & Fizzy will have a growth spurt for you.

Blue - ds2 was like a different baby yesterday & actually slept for 4 hours straight last night. Today he's been grumpy & seems to have a sore throat. Sounds really hoarse when he cries. He's been sick once today & twice yesterday but not loads like normal so cautiously hopeful he's turned a corner

sent request for FB profile is me in xmas hat x

sparklycheerymummy · 04/01/2010 22:03

my poor poor ds has a horrid cough and cold.... and like a totally over protective mother had him to the docs. who prescribed us saline drops to stick up his nose 10 mins before a feed. its horrid cos he is worn out after hardly sleeping today and only sleeping in my arms sat up..... every time you lay him down he wakes 10 mins later in a state. am gutted...... i thought bf babies werent supposed to get colds etc..... rubbish!!!! mind you my dp has had a cold/ flu???? annd so it was maybe inevitable. i am still sleeping alone as dps snoring is so bad........ feel very lonely and sad today xxx dp back at work tomorrow and dd back at school and i feel like the initial euphoria has worn off...... noone cares now that i pushed a 10lb 11oz baby out without drugs or that my bits are still sore, or that i am constipated and worried my piles will coe back, or that i still have carpal tunnel, or that i am surviving on a few hours sleep a night, or that i want to cry every time i hear joe mcelderrys song, or that i am feeling really fat and upset that 40000000 stretch marks have now appeared that werent there when i was pregnant!!!! sorry feel better now...... just need someone to care cos feel like noone in real life does. my mum even had a go at me for trying to get ds down to sleep while she was there ..... he was ratty and i knew he had been awake for a few hours...... she said....... you want to try keeping that baby awake so he can enjoy the world and so people can meet him awake rather than you making him sleep and noone getting a hold...... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr it was mainly my mums fault i got pnd with my daughter so trying to ignore her but she is toxic and has a way of getting to me!!!!

i love the fact that we can all come on here and say whats actually happening with our babies rather than pretending they are al angels as some of my friends are doing!!!

LaDiDaDi · 05/01/2010 10:26

Ok, ds is sleeping for 5 hours at a stretch but these 5 hours are from 6.30pm until 11.30 pm. He seems to cluster feed in the afternoon for a few hours before the 6.30 sleeping.

It would be a massive help to me if I could somehow shift his little bodyclock onwards so that the cluster feeding is in the evening and the run of sleep starts much later. Has anyone got any ideas on how I could do this???

docket · 05/01/2010 11:05

LaDiDaDi, DS2 does this as well, goes from 7ish to 12ish then feeds every 2 hours from then on. It's great they can go 5 hours but as you say, the timing of it could be better. DS1 did this too and eventually started doing it later in the night, not down to anything I did though. I fear the answer may be to go to bed much earlier..

ladylush · 05/01/2010 11:27

Congrats scorps (on previous antenatal thread together) and madmissy (thanks for advice on the frog - we love it)

scorps hope you are better soon.

GoldenSnitch · 05/01/2010 13:51

Catherine has decided that sleep is for losers

Either that or she thinks my boobs are dummies.

Whatever it is, she seems to be unable to sleep without being in my arms and attached to a boob!

I'll feed her, then wind her and put her down but the moment she realises that she's laid down, she wakes up. Then when I pick her up she's rooting immediately. I've tried not feeding her and just rocking her to sleep but normally, the crying just gets louder and louder till I latch her on again. Then she feeds for 2 or 3 minutes and falls back to sleep again.

I'm hoping it's just a growth spurt and she's getting me to make more milk and when I've caught up, she'll go back to sleeping in her crib again soon. We were doing so well at the weekend that she was sleeping better than her big brother! So hoping things improve again soon!!

5 hours sleep would be bliss - we've only had that once!
