Just thought that I would get this started before the ante-natal thread gets filled up, not that I've had much time to post since I had DS but others might be able to multi-task better than I can!

Snitch - baby finch is just the same- sometimes she has a few enthusiastic sucks then closes her eyes and snuggles up. When I put her in the crib she wakes up and we start again.

GoldenSnitch · 05/01/2010 14:22

It's nice not to be the only one

We have those '3 sucks and asleep' feeds too. I used to strip her to keep her awake (as advised to do in hospital) but she seems to over feed and make herself sick then!

I have found that wrapping her in a sheet helps. She gets all warm and snuggly while we feed then I transfer her - still wrapped and warm - into the crib. The sheet keeps her arms tight so she still feels like she's being held and I lie her on her side, just like I've been holding her and pin her down with a blanket.

It works sometimes....

Moosy · 05/01/2010 14:28

It seems the topups were needed, I fed her at 11am then at 12 she was hungry again so I BF'd her then gave her some formula and she guzzled 3.5oz! Poor little thing's been so hungry

I do the wrapping in a sheet thing too, it helped with DD2 (cold Feb baby) and with DD3 too. It also helped the other night when she was in bed with me and her nappy leaked explosively - her sheet caught it before it went on to my bed!

LaDiDaDi · 05/01/2010 15:53

Dd was like that GS, I used a sling during the day in th house and that really helped her to sleep for longer. DS is happy to sleep in his moses basket in the day but not at night so we are co-sleeping but tbh I am terrified by it!

Hi ladies.... well my "little" fella is 3 weeks old today and now weighs 12lb 11oz He feeds constantly and I've not has more than 2.5 hrs consecutive sleep since he was born. He also has a horrid cold now as well so is even more unsettled. On the plus side, he passed his second attempt at his hearing test after failing first time - so that's one less thing to worry about.

Sparkly - don't let your mum or anyone get you down. Mine is similar. I know its hard but try to ignore. You did and are doing brilliantly

Moosy - don't fret about topping up. Needs must

Scorps - hope you're better soon

LaDiDaDi · 05/01/2010 16:02

12lb 11oz ! HV coming round tomorrow pm and I hope that she can weigh DS as I'd love to know how heavy he is (15 days old today). If she can't weigh him I think I'll do the scales with both of us and then just me thing, expecting him to be creeping up towards 7lbs and he still seems big to me after dd who was 3lbs 3oz!

She's sleeping fine during the day LaDiDaDi - although I am desperate to try out my new Moby wrap - it's just the hours between 8 and 1am that she seems to cluster feed and want cuddles.

We did have some complaints about being laid down yesterday but she's back to contentedly sleeping through whatever noise DS can make during the day today!!

Would be so much easier if she was awake during the day. I'd happily stick her in the sling and get on. Can't bear to co-sleep at night though - we have a memory foam topped bed (can get very warm) and my friends baby died at 8 weeks while co-sleeping. It scares me silly! So she has to go in the crib or be rocked.

Got 5 more days of DH at home. Going to try uncovering her more in the day to wake her I think. Try to flip the cluster feed to day time...

Lee - know what the toe curling pain at latch on feels like! Mine has eased over last couple of days as engorgement has subsided (DS2 is 13 days old) and rest of feed fine but still feel like biting down on wood initially. Hopefully if WILL get easier for you. I haven't used cream as try and 'harden' my nipples up. I leave them out after each feed to do same

I'm co-sleeping too which as I was gina ford/baby whsiperer avoiding bad habits with DS1 is mad but DS2 just won't settle at night in his carrycot which I see is common on here! Will try carrycot again but he is sleeping brilliantly beside me under his own blanket and wakes once between midnight and 7am @ 3.30am for feed. Have tried to swaddle but those arms just break free.

It's hard isn't it?

BexJ78 · 05/01/2010 21:52

GS and JLF...in exactly the same position. feeds for 5 mins, put her down and then she cries! arrgghhh!

Catz · 05/01/2010 22:00

Scorps and ABF, sorry to hear your news. Thinking of you both.

Another baby that won't sleep in the moses basket here, though he's fantastic at sleeping on me! He's definitely smiling now though which makes up for it (well some of it!)

was going to write more but he's up again. Hope we all get some sleep...

damnitdamnit · 06/01/2010 07:20

DD also won't sleep in the moses basket, she has a cold though so i have let her sleep in the rocking chair for a few nights as it keeps her propped up. On the plus side she is going about 4/5 hours without a feed at night and settling straight back down. Think thats probably because she feeds every 1 1/2 to 2 hours throught he day.

I am going to let her get over this cold then try moses basket again.

Feel really good today as i have managed to get to 6 weeks exc bf.

For those of you that had dc already, when did you put them in their own room. WSith DD1 (who was the noisiest baby when sleeping ever) i put her in a cot in own room at 6 weeks . But she ended up sleeping through at about 12 weeks (was ff fed by then though) and in two years i can count on 1 hand how may times she was up in the night. Would really like DD2 to sleep well too (obviously) but dont think she will fit in the moses basket at side of bed for 6 months.

GoldenSnitch · 06/01/2010 08:14

We had a better night last night. After a mini cluster feed between 6 and 9, Catherine was settled in her moses basket in the lounge by 9.30 so I went to bed and left her with DH who was still up. He brought her to me at 11.30 for a feed and she went down afterwards with only 2 attempts. She fed again at 3.45 and 6.30. DS got up at 7 so we all got up and left DH in bed to make up for his late night.

I feel good cause I've had some decent sleep and DS slept through too so I'm hoping for a less grumpy day all round today.

Was hoping to take DS back to his toddler group today but I think we might be snowed in

damnit DS got kicked out of our room at about 4.5 months cause DH said he was too noisy. He slept through from 10 weeks and was exc BF till 5.5 months. He's a fab sleeper now too and goes from 7 till 7 99% of nights. Will keep DD in with us until DH cannot cope or she's too big for the crib.

Scorps · 06/01/2010 10:37

Hi all

They did seperate us, I'm making a complaint about it as I find it unacceptable. I have a uterine infection and I'm anaemic. On lots of meds but I still think my blood loss isn't right....

Lacey hates her basket too. We are co sleeping. This morning I woke up and she was latched on having the odd suck. At least she was sleeping!!

Finding it hard managing alone, still at parents house but think I'm expected to go home on Friday. Haven't told h yet, I know I need to so he can get his things sorted but still very that he will leave, but in other ways I hate him eternally for this.

sparklycheerymummy · 06/01/2010 11:26

Toby is usually ok in his basket but only cos he sleeps on his tummy! He can hold his head up really well and he is cms from my side and i sleep lightly anyway. wouldnt have dared do it with dd but its how he likes to sleep. however he has an awful cold so slept in his car seat last night as he kept choking on not when laid flat whether on his back or front. got doc coming out to me..... told them i wasnt happy driving in snow when ds keeps choking and what exactly was the criteria for a home visit..... she was lovely when i said how old he was and out me straight on the list for a home visit!!!!!

Mybox · 06/01/2010 14:01

dd has slept for 4 hrs at a stretch hurrah! - am co-sleeping but the lack of sleep is catching up on me. dh will be back to ususal long hrs tomorrow so back to reality.

sparklycheerymummy · 06/01/2010 14:05

am i being stupid..... does co sleeping mean they lay on you or next to you in bed...... ds is so poorly will try anything to get sleep x

Claire236 · 06/01/2010 15:57

ds1 was in own room from about 4 weeks & we found we all slept better for it. ds2 would be in his room by now except my parents are visiting in a weeks time so keeping his room as spare room until they've gone home.

ds2 has had a few days of feeding every 2 hours although he's settled back to normal now & when hv weighed him today found he'd gone from 8lbs 5oz to 9lbs 2oz in a week so obv having a growth spurt.

LaDiDaDi · 06/01/2010 16:29

Can;t remember how old dd was before she was in her own room, probably around 4 months.
Ds will be in his own room when he outgrows his basket.

HV weighed ds today, he's gone from 6lb 4oz to 6lb 15.5 oz in a week ! At least the frequent feeding is doing something! And to think that dp scoffed last night when I said that his face was getting fatter.

damnitdamnit · 06/01/2010 16:56

thanks, going to keep her with us for now but might try settle her in there for some daytime sleeps with a monitor. I just hope shewill sleep as good as dd1 did.

I want her weighing but all clinics are shut because of the weather, might try to do it on our scales tonight.

Goldensnitch i am snowed in, but have promised myself i nwill walk to play group tomorrow . I wouldn't mind but we have a freelander but dh been taking it to work, might suggest he walks tomorrow

bluesatinsash · 06/01/2010 22:44

I've always thought co-sleeping is them sleeping beside you... DS2 is beside me between cushion wedged between his carrycot and bed frame so acting like a cot bumper. He is under his own blanket and not on my pillow either. Still can't believe i'm doing it but he is sleeping so well..

DS1 was in his cot from 7 weeks, god I was so ruthless then . I'm a big softy this time around (see above) .

DS2 was weighed yesterday and has gone from 8lb 3oz at birth to 8lb 13oz at two weeks - thought he was filling out his babygrow the other day .

Scorps - really to read your news. What a time you are having. hope you're getting great comfort in enjoying and getting to know Lacey.

1petshortofazoo · 07/01/2010 09:39

Hi ladies!
Finally named ds2 after alot of debating... He is regan michael.
He actually slept for 7 hours straight last night! It was between 7 and 2 so still had to get up in the night for a feed, if he doesn't wake up at 11 tonight I will wake him I think to see if he can get to 6.

Ds1 was in his own room form 4 months when he started sleeping through.

GoldenSnitch · 07/01/2010 09:46

Had a terrible night last night. Catherine just would not sleep! She's no better this morning and me and DH both look like death warmed up!

It occurred to me at about 3am that we haven't heard from AmazingBouncingFerret for a while. I hope little Elizabeth is OK.

Congratulations on choosing a name and getting some sleep 1pet - very
