Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
peachespaige · 18/02/2010 07:40

Morning all.

ht Please keep us informed on Joe, I hope it sorts itself out soon.

On a lovely note, someone said to me "wow 3 sons, you'll be adored in your house" and its true they tell me Im beautiful every day and will often use their pennies to buy me earings from school or church fetes!!!

They also run the legs off of me and its non stop jumping, climbing, pretend shooting and lots of glued back together again chins, foreheads, eyes etc.

Well Fred fed every 2.5 hours last night as opposed to 1.5!!

Fidelma doctors please....its time to get that boob fixed.

We do lots of drop in groups, stay and play and baby massage which has just finished. I help run a playgroup on Wednesdays too.
We have lots of childrens centres in our area which offer lots of free groups like music, massage etc brilliant.

littlepea72 · 18/02/2010 08:14

HT i wonder if he has burst a wee blood vesel with the force of a poo? Anything with blood is a staight to the doctors time. Waiting to hear what the doctor says....big hugs!

Fidelma...get to the boob doctor now lol..

Faith went to her bed last night for 7, she goes now awake & puts herself to sleep, its so much easier! But then woke at 1am for a feed, then woke at 4am to get up! I had to bring her downstairs, so im really tired now. But she did fall asleep again arround 6am, and woke up screaming, she had a nightmare! It was really bad & she was really shaken up. I didnt even know that a baby could get nightmares. Has anyone else had this??

It has started raining here thank goodness! Hope that it melts this snow & ice. Its so bad on the roads & they dont grit them, i cant drive as its so bad. We bought a new car, a ford Kuga, great car/4x but they are sooooo not good in this weather, which is why we bought it. So it has to go! No point in having it when its a danger. Waste of money

Right....housework!

twinklegreen · 18/02/2010 08:21

fidelma I would assume it is one of the openings on the nipple. It's quite common to recur, and could be that he is not feeding as effectively on that bit, so careful positioning and attachment, different positions may help. Creams can sometimes block the opening, do you use any? Maybe feed a bit more on this side?

smallone · 18/02/2010 09:51

Morning all, creams all round for the thrush, DS has started sleeping again -hurrah! Don't know what it was but I'm glad its stopped. Couldn't have carried on like that.

fidelma I've read something like what you're describing, I'll try and find it again, I think treatment involves hot flannels and resisting the temptation to pop it - but I'll check.

HT hope you can get an answer quick, I think its quite common to have small streaks of bright red blood, as its from fissures around the anus, rather than greater quantities of older blood that would have come from higher up in the digestive system, IYSWIM.

Calypso 4.5oz is perfect, well done.

devilsadvocaat · 18/02/2010 10:21

hello peoples.

feeling so tired today. anyone else really craving a day off?! can't see that happening for a long time. i wish charlie would take a bottle, am looking forward to weaning him, then that should give me a bit more freedom last night 6.45 - 11 dreamfed - 4.30 - 7. it's not too bad really but ds was sleeping through by this age.

i saw my friend on monday night who i used to teach with. it made me miss work so much. i just can't see me returning whilst my two are still small though. i feel completely torn. what is everyone else doing about work?

ht - how scary, hope you gt it sorted today, am sure it's nothing major x

scout - just ignore people and their stupid comments!

our week routine:

monday: trip up to shops, stop in coffee shop
tuesday: meet with friend and her dd
wednesday: playgroup
thursday: meet with friend or sister and dd/ds
friday: trip to shops/cleaning spree in the house

there is also a bf group on weds but ds1 normally too tired out from pg to make it.

dh has gone into work today even tho it's half term. and he's in tomorrow boooooo.

i have a weigh in tomorrow which i am dreading as i have been stuffing my face since friday. hoping i haven't done too much damage dh has lost 12 lbs and i have lost 11 lbs since january

fidelma · 18/02/2010 10:25

Thanks for the advice.I am feeding alot on that side but it is still sore also trying different possitions.I feel unwell but I don't think that it is related there are quite a few poorly people in the Fidelma household at the momentI still haven't gone to the Dr as I don't want antibiotics! and I am not sure what eles they can suggestAlso doing a hot water bottle and iboprophen (sp?)

HT I hope all is well, let us know, pretty sure one of mine had that as a baby.

I am having very disturbed nights with Connor and feeling very run down[sigh]

2 children off skiing,I am then getting my now very thin hair cut at a friends house.(lots of tea and cake yumm)I think a short sharp bob is needed

THEN it is swimming and ballet madness if I can face it.

Thanks for all your advice.

rubyslippers · 18/02/2010 10:26

HT - what a worry. Am sure as the others have said it is something like a fissure

HC - have heard that phrase before .... now i have one of each i will have to see if it is true!

littlepea - boo to 4 am. That is rubbish. Do you think it may be her teeth rather than nightmares?

fidelma - can;t believe you are still as sleep deprived as me ...

peaches - well, 2.5 hours is still rubbish but better than 1.5 hours

iggly - we dont' do any activities. Ruby does love being out in her pram, watching her big brother and generally watching the world go by

princess - how are you feeling?

so, hope everyone else is ok? Can't beleive how fast it is all going. I am back to work in 3 months ... don't know how my nanny will cope with my boobaholic!

xx

devilsadvocaat · 18/02/2010 10:37

also ds2 weighs exactly the same as ds1 at 20 weeks!

Scout19075 · 18/02/2010 11:47

Has anyone else's DC suddenly developed a scream/cry that could call the neighborhood cats and dogs to the door? Honestly, I'm surprised I don't have a pierced eardrum...or all of the neighborhood pets at our front door....

HappyTangerine · 18/02/2010 12:20

We're back. Saw a useless locum doctor who told me it was v common, didn't bother examining him at all and started on about me switching to soy based formula. Idiot. He kept going off on a tangent of "when I worked in pediatrucs at the hospital we thought x formula was excellent..." He seemed to use his red book as a guide and said there is nothing anywhere to suggest a dairyintolerance develop in a bf baby and that improvements can be seen if the mother tries eliminating dairy. So I asked to see the health visitors. they checked him over and said he was fine, that the explosive green poos are v common in a teething bf baby, the blood is probably a fissure and to keep hold of the nappy if it happens again. No way I should stop bf. We are back to lovely mustardy poos this a.m so block feeding appears to be working.

It was a double appt, I got dh looked at as well. He has a chest infection. Locum umd and ahhd about giving him antibiotics and went off on a tangent of how he had a v bad cough at Christmas and aren't all cough medicines useless. DH not going to work and I've got the antibiotics. Popped into see MIL and between us weve nagged him into taking them.

God, I am worn out. Joseph screamed last night like he never has before when we were trying to get him to sleep. Then dh coughed all night, often to the point of vomiting. I worried about Joe, listened to dh cough & tried to help and did not sleep at all. Am so tired. Joe now asleep in my arms after a long sleep feed,I'll ring in sick for dh and then try and nap myself.

Love to everyone, thanks for the support x

Scout19075 · 18/02/2010 12:32

HT Big hugs and thoughts being sent in your direction. Hope everyone is better soon.

fidelma · 18/02/2010 16:59

ht what a rubbish appointment i am sending you good vibes and i hope you get some sleep tonight x

connor has just had some soilds, little play and hopfully early to bed for all of us.my middle 2 have skied, swam and danced so will collapse in a heap.chill out day for all tomorrow.

Dc1 has 3 mollars comming in so is already on the sofa (i wish i was !!!)

my polly tunnel is going up as we speak, it is huge,i hope we don't need planning permission for it !

BellaCullen · 18/02/2010 17:47

Had nightmare night last night as Nathaniel got a sore throat and kept waking up but not wanting a feed. Was up at 10pm,12am,2am,5am and at 6am was up for the day.Had to do some walking and rocking each time to get him back off to sleep.
Sooo tired today so know how youre are feeling littlepea72 youre not alone .Its so hard when they`re up for the day at unreasonable times have had 5am with Nathaniel more then once.
Might take him to doctors tomorrow as his voice is so croaky poor thing.

Activity wise we go to a friends on weds for coffee and meeting some other friends for coffee on frids. We have done baby massage course already and it cost a fortune but was really good. Thus afternoons is dds ballet class and frids afternoon is gymnastic.DS1 has karate thus and football sats. Feel like I should be doing more with Nathaniel.Have been meaning to try a music class on monday and babygroup on tue.Its hard when youre running around older dcs and as am always dropping and picking up at school just want to chill in mornings at home.

Scout and littlepea know how hard it is when you live away from your parents,my family`s in germany and would love to have them close by.They miss out so much in the first year. Always speak to my sister on skype but obviously not the same.Would never want to live over there though find it so child-unfriendly there.Have been living in England most of my live anyway.Do miss some of the food,so many yummy cakes and chocolates.
Ok off to do dinner now xxx

fidelma · 18/02/2010 22:37

DH took over tonight after I got Connor to bed at 6.30pm.I have had a lovely 3 hour sleep while he fed the DC and put them all to bed. This hardly ever happens and was shear bliss for me.I now of course feel like I have had a nights sleep already.Oh well back to bed.

fidelma · 18/02/2010 22:41

Oh meant to ask what luxurys do you have?

I have a box of good chocolates delivered to the house each month I often use them for gifts but sometimes I eat them all!! just opened a box!! double

HappyTangerine · 19/02/2010 03:42

All of my little luxuries usually involve either a)bath products b)gardening seeds/bulbs/plug plants or c)ingredients for some exotic recipe I just have to make!

Am seriously thinking of taking on a cleaner though, just to help me out around the house at the moment.

fidelma · 19/02/2010 07:23

HT I love my cleaner and would go to work tp pay for her.I will never give her up !!!!!

Scout19075 · 19/02/2010 09:34

fidelma Luxury at the moment is sleep. LOL Seriously, though, my kitchen gadgets (the KitchenAid that my DH thinks is ugly but that I LOVE) and my bakeware (all of my cake pans, cake tins etc). Also, my big craft machines like my Cricut and it's accessories. Now if I could just have my own craft room that would be a real luxury....

littlepea What took you to Germany?

Taking Seb to the weigh-clinic today. Probably wouldn't do it as often as I do (have cut down to every 2-3 weeks) but I get a kick out of calling Mom Fridays at lunchtime (breakfast time her time) and saying "Guess how much your grandson weighs now?!?!" He is their only grandchild and I try to keep them as involved as 3500 miles will allow me and that weekly call gets us both excited. Then we're off to help check the new Guide district tents (a new mess tent, 2 toilet tents and 3 patrol tents!). AND then we're having a leaders' meeting to discuss the sleepover we're having in May and to discuss the Senior Section unit I'm re-opening after the Easter break. Full on Guiding day!

Does anyone have anything exciting planned for the weekend? The three of us are going to Thinking Day on Sunday (me as a leader, DS as our unit mascot and DH as the official district photographer, which he does for us at every opportunity). And I've just remembered I need to bake a minimum of 40 apple/cinnamon muffins as our unit choose the US as their country since they have "an easy-to-use resource." And since it's Friday, it's our "date night" of Chinese take-away and DVDs (I LOVE at-home date night!).

Happy Friday, all!

HumphreysCorner · 19/02/2010 10:30

Hi all

The feeding more times each side seems to be going well as M has woke at 5-30am the last 2 mornings. Will see what the scales say in 2 weeks.

Wish I had a cleaner, am definitely looking to get a gardener as my garden is quite large and grass cutting takes me 2.5 hours and that is too long to abandon the children.

ruby-I always think of me and my bro. I see my mum and dad at least 3 times a week-once my bro married my mum only sees him 3 times a year so never sees my nephews growing up which is so sad. They only live 1 hour away.

Anyway, will catch up later as must bake a cake before we meet my friend at 3pm.

Laters!

CalypsoFramboise · 19/02/2010 11:52

oooh Annalise sort of sat by herself this morning, for all of 3 seconds

Bella hope Nathaniel's throat gets better, poor little boy, must be so painful

HC interesting about the suggestion for boob swapping- I tried feeding from both sides instead of one per feed and it still seems to be completely random if Annalise piles on the oz or nothing at all, really can't find any correlation. Do report back if you see better weight gain!

HT Has DH's coughing eased up? Sounds like you need to take yourself and Joseph off for a break! I can't believe you study amongst all this, you're amazing!! Do you have Skype? If you want a hand with the sling I could webcam myself and talk you through it?

luxuries Starting running again, is just wonderful, and yes I have hired a cleaner in the last 3 weeks and I'm a new person.

And wholeheartedly agree how hard it is with relatives abroad, our family are all in France, Spain, Dubai and deepest darkest Wales, and they miss Annalise and we miss being able to have the odd afternoon / evening break.

devils & ruby any improvements on the sleeping front? Feel sorry for you both, you must be completely knackered, only a few weeks before weaning can begin in earnest and I hope that improves things for you...

princessmel interesting about 30min naps throughout the day, I read the baby whisperer and it implied that babies 'should' nap 1.5hrs every 3 hrs which is a hell of a lot, and Annalise really gets riled if I keep patting her on the back when she doesn't want to sleep anymore - who wouldn't?! Oh and I feel terrible that she is now sleeping so well in her new cot; she must have been hating the hammock Routine seems to be slowly re-establishing itself ok.

Good weekend all, I'm at home alone whilst DH enjoys Depeche Mode with his mates.

HumphreysCorner · 19/02/2010 12:10

Calypso-it is not swapping sides that I am to do. I have to feed one side only for 2 or 3 feeds which makes me lopsided and causes leaks. Will see if it works.

Bella where in Germany are you from? Im here in Herford. Must admitt that my favorite thing about this country is the cake no where in the world can make cake like the Germans.

Scout, my DH is in the army, so here we are. But we are moving back home soon (i hope) and i cant wait, i really could do with the family, and faith is missing out with them.

Luxeries for me....starting my horseriding again in a couple of weeks, cant wait!

Funny about the comment on the baby whisperer, i was reading about the naps also, but Faith only naps about half hour twice a day, if im lucky!

Ive put on a stone since ive had faith! I cant believe it will have to get something done about it. It must be all the cake im eating!

fidelma · 19/02/2010 21:15

Loving the luxurys keep them comming.

I think I am making Connor worse by sleeping in his room as he sleeps well until I come in and then seems to wake up every 1.5 hours.I also go to him fairly quickly as he is so close to me.
The problem is that we can't get a baby monitor to work in our room from his room The house is old and has thick walls and we can not hear him from our room.Perhaps I should get another monitor to pick up the other monitor from half way through the housel

We are doing a refurb/extension later this year.He will then be in the room next to ours, but until then help !

DH just checking up on the sports channels before our curry is ready.Sadly eatten I lot of chocolate as the hunger was toooo great !

Scout19075 · 19/02/2010 21:24

Mmm, chocolate. Have given it up for Lent but have just realized that the Girl Scout cookies I brought from home and have been scarfing down during one BF a day have chocolate bottoms. I know the church says BF moms don't need to abstain or fast, but I feel so guilty now since I did want to try to give up something since I've done nothing but eat since Seb was born....

princessmel · 20/02/2010 09:24

Calypso the only way F sleeps for longer than that is if he's in the car/pram (and then he still wakes sometimes)or on my boob relatching on whenever he stirs.

I think they just learn to go back off to sleep themselves after a while nearer the 6 month mark.
Glad Annalise likes her cot

luxuries NONE!!! Seriously. No cleaner/horseriding anything.
But dh does buy a lot of junky type food and I try to sneak off for a bath as many evenings as I can whilst dh is home to do the after tea bedtime routine for the older 2 (and hold/watch F). Oh and we do like a curry takaway on a saturday night.

Got to go...jobs to do today.
