I am going to see how it goes and then roll some towels up if needed. Will tuck him in under the covers so he is snug.

massive blocked duct with a wee blister on the end of my nipple i have been feeding, massaging and putting a hottie on, very slow progress.any advice scare that i get mastits i have no time to be ill.

bollywood dancing and a double parents evening this afternoon.

HappyTangerine · 09/02/2010 09:54

fidelma-feed, feed feed from it. Also a wide toothed comb is v effective, when you're having a shower, comb the affected part of the breast towards the nipple and then express a bit off. Then feed as soon as you come out of the shower. Of all the tips the breastfeeding counsellor gave me, this was the most helpful and stopped me getting mastitis a second time. Feeding on all fours was also mentioned but Joseph looked quite disturbed at my big boobs looming over him so we gave up on that one pretty sharpish!

Calypso-Joseph's teething started with him pooing all the time. Actually, he best weight gain weeks have been when he's pooed a lot so you might be in for a pleasant surprise next weigh in. Didn't realise that pooing and teething were connected until my doctor mentioned it. I must try and stick at shush pat. Tried sleep training Joseph the other night and even on the bed with me shush patting, it took 25 mins of screams and sobbing.

littlepea-poor DCs and you. I hope there's someone around to give you a bit of a break. Was it you who's friend's son was very ill? How is he now?

HC and princessmel-good luck with the sleep training.

Treats - thought of you yesterday -unfortunately too late! Joseph was in the bumbo and did one of those huge up the back poos that you mentioned. They defy gravity.

Huge piles of washing and ironing to get through today, am tying to do it in small bursts as Joseph is much happier being put in a bouncer now we have the Baby Bjorn babysitter. It is fantatic-even if I hadn't got the bargain buy from ebay I think I would have paid full price. I know he can't tip this one over, the toy bar is entertaining and best of all, its up until age 2 so we'll get lots of wear out of it.

Gotta go, in middle of making veggie Hungarian goulash x

HumphreysCorner · 09/02/2010 10:54

Ouch fidelma, hope it improves V. soon.

Matthew went in his cot at 9-15pm without crying and slept until he woke for a feed at 4-30am. He then went back to sleep again without crying. Yippee!!!! Hope tonight is the same, have dismantled the crib to stop me putting him back in it. DD2 had me up between 2-30 and 3-30am with her coughing so still an unsettled night but a big breakthrough for Matthew.

Big wave!

double ouch fidelma

i am so bloody lucky - no mastitis or blocked ducts for me this time. I had mastitis with DS and it was like razor blades

hc - what a result with M!! Whoopppeeeeeee

Rubes is in her own room and cot and is going down at around 7.30/8 pm, waking for a feed at 10/11 ish and then every 3 hours after but i do sleep better without miss trumpy pants next to me

HT - my laundry pile sounds like yours - it is never done. It is my pet hate TBH. Ruby generates the most washing with her constant outfit change (poo and dribble!)

must go - rubes is crying ... hope everyone is ok

xx

Infant Gaviscon seems to be working and Seb seems so much more settled during and after a feed. Keeping my fingers crossed! Had a very good yesterday in terms of sleeping -- happily fell asleep on my bed or in his swing several times and stayed asleep for at least an hour a go. YAY! I know it's not his basket, but this way he's with me and I can keep an eye/ear on him. Also managed to go to bed (and back down from night feeds) with no tears, squirming, noises, etc. Only had to do one pat/shush to get him down initially and even that wasn't during full-on crying. Fingers crossed this is the start of something good!

Good job to all of the sleep-training babies and mommies. It's hard work, isn't it?

Ouch at the thought of mastitis. Knock on wood never had it, so don't know what it feels like but I don't like the sounds of it!

Made homemade mincemeat over the course of the last two days. I don't like the stuff, personally, but it sure smells good! I'm the same way with Christmas pudding. But both are fun to make and made me feel almost like my pre-Seb self! Today I'm hoping to make a chocolate bunny cake for hubby's sweets "competition" at work. Going to try a new recipe from a cake book I got for Christmas.

Does anyone else have a hobby or pasttime they haven't had time to enjoy lately that are finally getting back into?

peachespaige · 10/02/2010 08:16

Hello all!!!

Its been so long. Ive been reading daily just not had the energy to post.
Dp had to go to hospital due to stomache trouble and is being reguarly x-rayed due to pneumonia.
He's much better now.
Fred is still waking 4 times a night, rarely sleeps for longer than 2 hours at a time. We are trying a dummy and its kind of helping. He is also in his big cot next to me but in a kind of zip up knitted sleeping bag thing for comfort, think its helping. He has his jabs today...
He doesnt cry, just wakes up, sucks or feeds then back to sleep again but 4 times a night is exhausting.
He will sleep for 2 hours in the day but only if he has been out in the pram first then he'll stay asleep. If I try to put him down for a nap in the day I usually have to feed him to sleep.
Congrats on all those who are getting more sleep.
I really hope those of you who are ill or have poorly babes get better soon.
scout I used to belly dance, would love to get back in to that. Ive also got a running machine but Im too exhausted to use it.
We have a Hauck Apollo Rs pram with the soft carry cot, we love it!!! Plus I got it for £189 instead of £400.
Im sorry I havent been posting but have been reading, you all sound as if you are doing brilliantly.

devilsadvocaat · 10/02/2010 13:00

scout - i like knitting and sewing but haven't done any since charlie was born. i am half way through making a rug for his bedroom but by the time the kids are in bed at night, all i want to do is mn relax. however, i have been jogging, although not the last two weeks , which has been great for making me feel like me.

hi peaches - hope dp recovers quickly x

charlie was up all last night. after an hour of feeding and crying dh managed to rock him and calm him down, then i feed for another hour. couldn't get him in the basket though so he was in with me. i just don't sleep when he's in the bed so feel tired today. i did manage to get to toddlers today and ds1 had a lovely time with his friends there, so pleased i went. ds1 fell over twice yesterday, badly cut up his face, forehead grazed, cut on nose and fat lip. poor thing. it looks so sore today.

well done rubes and matthew!

fidelma - hope you're feeling better x

BellaCullen · 10/02/2010 13:41

Hi everyone.

Sorry havent been on time just flies. On monday Nathaniel had another operation on his eye as some fluid got blocked. His eye swelled up a last wed night which was really scary but wasnt in pain with it! Went to our local A&E who couldnt do much. Had to wait 2 hours to be seen by paedatrician (sp?) and then another 5 hours for her to hear back from an eye specialist at different hospital. Absolute ridiculous thought babies were seen straight away by paedatrician but seems not.Next morning went and saw his consultant at Great Ormond and saw us straight away and booked hin in for mon. Operation went well but Nathaniel taking long to recover from it poor thing.Havent slept properly for 3 nights as sunday night he was constantly crying and then needing to fart a bit.Hoping will be better tonight.

On lighter note he put on 4ozs in a week not sure whether baby rice helped or just a coinsidence.
Have tried carrot with him which he didn`t like much so giving just baby rice now and will mix with carrot next week. Will try something new every 7 days as got allergies in my family and can see how he reacts to it.

Calypso great news on weight gain.At least Annalise is not only one with slow weight gain it seems a few of babies here are and we can put our minds at rest a bit.Spoke to my mum about it yesterday and she said my sister and me were all small babies and only weight around 6 kgs at 6 months so that eases my mind too.

Fluffy have thought of making my own boosters and fleece liners cant be that hard.Have ordered a babimnex all in one so will see how that is. DP doesnt like them when theyre too bulky like the motherease one he thinks its going to prevent him crawling and walking properly later on.Just told him not to be silly as we were all in cloth nappies and we didnt have any problems walking.I love Glee and record it so I can watch it in peace without DP.Want to get soundtrack for it.

Nathaniel squeals like a piglet. Will have to catch up more later as he`s woken up now xxx

fidelma · 10/02/2010 14:59

i am better thanks.connor a bit poorly so i have my arms full.bollywood was great fun and parents evening was the best we have ever had. (i had a wee tear in my eye when i came home. )waves to all. i will post later if i get a chance.off to prepare tea with connor in my arms while mum collects the others.

littlepea72 · 10/02/2010 18:47

Hi everyone, i will post tomorrow when i have more time, and i really could do with an early night. Bella what a nightmare, your poor wee man has been though so much, big hugs for him

HumphreysCorner · 10/02/2010 19:50

Aw Bella-hope Nathaniel is OK.

fidelma-we had DD1's parents evening tonight and as usual she is a delight and the complete opposite of how she is at home. Hugs to Connor.

I like sewing, knitting and jigsaws and have one of each thing started but never get round to doing them as I too am so tired in the evening and MN and FB takes up my spare time.

Matthew was awake too many times last night so today I bought some bowls, spoons and Heinz Breakfast and will start weaning him after his weigh in on Wednesday.

Big wave to all.

smallone · 11/02/2010 10:04

Hi all, a note of support for the slow gainers! My boy has put on the grand total of 7oz in 3weeks. Showed HV dds red book showing her doing similar and they're not worried. Ironically I've been trying to feed him more, giving him more ebm and tried breast compression to keep him on longer. This has given me a week of green nappies, and posseting which the HV reckons could be due to overfeeding! LOL I've got another lean mean dribbling machine!

Wanted to add a word of caution to those who are considering weaning - a number of my friends babies started waking MORE when they started on solids.

rubyslippers · 11/02/2010 10:43

bella - that is scary - hope he is

HC - lovely news about your DD. My DS is an angel at nursery and a devil at home

scout - hope your LO continues to improve with his reflux

smallone - you can't win?! At least the HVs are happy and can see he is doing what he should

hmmm ... Hobbies ... i used to like sleeping! I also have a scarf i have barely knitted which i would like to finish (for next winter now!)

Ruby was back to waking 3 hourly again. I am not going to wean her so i think it is a case of riding it out and hoping she will start to change.

I bought a book on Baby Led weaning as i have totally forgotten how to do it!

she no longer cluster feeds so we actually have a bath and bedtime routine. This means i can actually eat dinner with 2 hands

we are back to the doctors on Tuesday to see if her poo sample showed anything weird

twinklegreen · 11/02/2010 11:50

Hi everyone

bella hope you have had a good night with Nathaniel, you sound so calm about it all. It must be so scary when he's so small.

hope everyone else who is poorly or has poorly babies is feeling better today.

Nice to see you again peaches Hope your dh is on the mend now.

As for hobbies, I'm really into art and craft, so it's great that I can do lots with the children. I also like baking which again is something I can do with little assistants

I had a few nights earlier in the week where Amelie was up alot more than usual so I started giving her a bit of baby rice in the afternoon... so far she has slept through 2 nights in a row (probably just a coincidence (sp?)) I'm not going to rush it though, I tend to avoid everything except baby rice and fruit/veg until they are about 7mths then start with alot of finger foods.

Anyone elses older children had the swine flu jab yet? My two have got it this afternoon, I'm hoping it doesn't make them ill!

rubyslippers · 11/02/2010 14:49

twinkle - we were all offered the swine flu jab but none of us are having it

hope your LOs are ok afterwards

twinklegreen · 11/02/2010 15:33

thanks ruby they're fine at the moment, both of them screamed the place down when they had it though!
I wasn't going to let them have it but changed my mind as all my nephews and nieces have had it and were fine.

CalypsoFramboise · 11/02/2010 16:17

peaches hi again

fidelma poor you, I hope your boob gets better fast

bella Sorry to hear Nathaniel had to go through all of that, hope that he recovers fast. and great on 4oz weight gain x

Talking of things that we've given up, my new-mummy neighbour and I have signed up tp the Friends of Médecins Sans Frontières Charity Run, 5km Route this morning. 5km used to be my warm up distance, seems like a long way right now! Looking forward to getting the running shoes back on

Totally cursed myself by talking about an anglel-baby; Annalise has been a little devil to settle... Must have had some ssh/pat honeymoon!

Hi all.

bella your ds has been through so much. I really hope he feels better.

My middle ds wont be having the jab as in our area swine flu seems to have died down...I'll see again in a month or so plus he has his pre-school jabs next week.

Fred is now 14lbs at 16 weeks, the hv seems to think he is growing well and might need weaning as he wakes so much in the night. I think he wakes and then cant settle himself so needs to suck. Ill wean him in a month or so.

calypso I really need to get back on my running machine but with 2 other boys Im not sure when Ill get the chance, probably when theye are all in bed....

fidelma hope your boob feels better soon.

devilsadvocaat · 11/02/2010 20:18

my ds had the sf jab and was fine, not even a sore arm.

had charlie weighed today 16lbs 3oz at 20 weeks he's pretty much grown out of 3-6 months so i went into town today and bought some bits from h&m - so cute, they look enormous but i bet they'll fit. i always wait to long before trying him in the next size as clothes look bigger off iykwim.

bella - hope all is well, you sound like you're coping well.

when i had him weighed today, the hv suggested that i weaned him as he's waking more. i do however think it's just a developmental thing that they go through. i'm pretty sure if charlie could settle himself to sleep, it wouldn't be such an issue. re: weaning, going to try and wait until 6 months when he can have finger foods etc as well as mashed food.

calypso - everytime i say or think about having cracked something with charlie, it's all change again. they keep us on our toes!

Igglybuff · 11/02/2010 20:31

Hi all am sulking as written a nice long post a couple of days ago then computer crashed just before I posted. pah.

Anyway, William has gone back up to 3 hourly feeds which is lovely given the 2 hourly hell. One day I'll get a full 5 hour stretch... One day! And he's started to self settle which is amazing (well not at the start of the night but a few times he's woken up, I've put him down drowsy and he's gone back to sleep after 5/10 mins of chatting. Once he woke up last night and I lay there pretending to be asleep to see what happened. He had a chat, then found his finger and started sucking which sent him back off. Hoorah!)
One thing that has helped (I think) get William to sleep a bit longer is to get DH to settle him for the night as W will just want my boob all the time otherwise. He tends to sleep a bit longer then whereas if I do it, he wont sleep for two hours as he feeds, then wakes an hour later after more! This then gives him terrible wind which makes him wake loads in the night.

I've decided to get a Britax pushchair and it has been ordered. So very excited about that.

fidelma, sorry to hear about your boob. Hope it gets better soon.

calypso, I'm jealous - I love running! But have no time. And my running trainers have fallen apart.. Excuses excuses! I think I'll start again in the summer.

littlepea, I hope your DCs are getting better and you're ok.

smallone I*'m not sure it's possible for W to wake anymore, but I'm not chancing solids just in case!

rubys I hope the poo check goes ok.

peaches - Fred sounds like William. He is really sucky and needs a quick boob to drop off again. But now he has discovered his hand, I think I may no longer be called upon. Although it's pretty loud when he does suck on his fingers...

bella I hope DS is recovering well.

fidelma · 11/02/2010 20:37

Hi I now have a big cold.My breast was ok but is now playing up a bit.

Connor bear also has the cold so have pretty much given up on much weaning, I will start again when he is feeling better.

Hobbies, Sleep would be nice as would drinking a whole cup of tea !!!
