Scout19075 · 06/02/2010 09:16

devils -- Sebby does the same thing regarding sleep. It's driving me potty. But now that Christmas is past (away for 2 1/2 weeks for that) and holiday is over (away for almost a total of 3 weeks for that) I can now try to work on a loose schedule and some of these issues. But for now, leaving him with us means less crying and more sleep for the three of us.

Well done for all of the poops and weight gains! I had Sebby weighed yesterday for the first time in a month (due to the trip). He's now up to 13 lbs 14.5 oz, only 5 1/2 oz from doubling his birth weight. Wahoo! He still doesn't look like a Michelin Man baby -- I think all of his weight is going to length. He outgrows clothes, especially one-piece outfits, faster than you can say boo because they get too short for him. Yesterday I put him in a new 6-12 months top we got on holiday and it looks like I'll only get a month or so worth of wear from it. He only turned 3 months last week! Hubby is about 6'5" so figure Seb will be as tall as me by the time he's 10. ACK!

We have round two of the baby injections on Monday -- not looking forward to that so much! And while we were away I got a letter to make my appointment for the H1N1 vaccination. Now, technically, I should be invited in for a normal flu shot every year (due to my heart condition) but I never am and I've never had a flu shot (even when living in the U.S.) so I'm really unsure if I want to go for the H1N1 shot. Has anyone been invited for one and gone and if so, how did you react to it?

Have a good weekend everyone!

Hi everyone.

Calypso - great news about Annalise's weight gain. Hope she stays on her centile and puts your mind at rest. will you still go to the feeding clinic?

HT - congrats on your brilliant result! Hope I can do half as well in my accountancy studies......

I found out I was pregnant exactly 28 days after my last period - just over a year ago now. DH and I had been trying for 15 months and I'd had quite a few negative pregnancy tests. I'd had a HyCoSy earlier in the month to see if my tubes and eggs were OK, and we were under strict instructions not to have sex until after it had been done. So we didn't think we would have a chance that month. On the day my period was due, I kept emailing DH at work to tell him that it hadn't started yet - I didn't think there was any chance, but I still couldn't stop thinkig about it. DH got bored with my fretting that evening and insisted that i did a test. I literally couldn't believe that it was positive. I still have it in a drawer, although you can't see the result anymore......

fidelma · 06/02/2010 21:58

I haven't had Connor weighed since he was 8 weeks he is now almost 18 weeks (i think)His reflux has settled down since he has had solids (1 week now)He is also sleeping a bit better. His naps are certainly longer.I started with pear then Baby rice (Quinoa rice actually)then the 2 mixed together. He had some carrot for his tea tonight. He has just woken so waves to all. HappyTangerine · 07/02/2010 06:29

Well, Joseph has definately found his "voice" and where before he would cry if something wrong, we now have something akin to an indignant yell. It is a cross between a creaking door and the noise that weird woman from The Grudge makes. V v irritating after 4 hours. He has no temp, isn't ill (was checked out on Thursday) apart from the teething, just is v annoyed if not constantly entertained and enjoys this new skill of yelling. I'm only managing to get some stuff done now because he's asleep. I went into town today and he sobbed his heart out for the whole hour until I came back. Someone please tell me we're going to get some new noises soon?

When is the teething pain going to subside? I've had to give a small 2.5 dose of calpol every night this week which I'm not happy about but he's in agony from 6pm onwards. I've tried:
Ashton & Parsons - lasts roughly 15 mins before he's furiously sucking away again
Bonjela-slides off the gum
Nelson's Teetha-lasts even less than A&P
Anebesol-probably best of all but I'd have to administer every half hour to have any effect.
Calpol-the only thing that stops the pain.
All this, as you can imagine, is making getting off to(and staying)asleep very difficult. Is there some miracle teetthing cure I just don't know about? He's in so much pain.

Sorry to moan. Not having a good weekend, can you tell?

rubyslippers · 07/02/2010 15:59

HT - try putting a facecloth in the freezer and Joseph can chew on it ... really soothing

fidelma - great news about the reflux. Never heard of Quinoa rice ...

sammy - nice to see you back

how is everyone else? Ruby went 4 hours between feeds last night so that is a huge improvement

she has also found her voice - she is very LOUD! mind you she has to be with DS around

she is also teething - the dribble is off the scale - she wets through her tops in around 10 mins if she doesn't have a bib on ..

fluffycats · 07/02/2010 18:00

Hello all, haven't finished catching up on the thread and have now got distracted by Glee!! So will post will have to get to the end another time!

BellaCullen Glad you are trying reusable nappies. I have been using them ever since Ella was born. I started off using muslin squares but they are not absorbent enough any more. I brought a few Little Lambs off of Ebay and really like them, I have also used them as a guide to make my own out of Terry's and they are quite successful. I also use just flat Terry's squares and find them very good. She never gets nappy rash in them either. The only problem is her bottom is enormous compared to the rest of her, she looks like a Telly Tubby! Its funny when we use a disposable as she is half the size! I don't know what the real reason for not putting them on the radiator is but I find that when you do dry them there they go really hard and scratchy, so maybe that is the reason?

Don't worry about Nathaniels weight, your not the smallest, Ella was only 9lb 13oz at her 16 week weight in last week. We're thinking of maybe trying a bit of baby rice to see it helps her gain any weight too. As you can see lots of people seem to have issues with weight on here as Devils said I can't see that the charts can be accurate with all the people I have heard with apparent weight issues.

CalypsoFramboise - Really feel for you on the weight gain issue too, I ended up crying on the way back from the docs also when he suggested that I should express then bottle feed or try formula. He's obviously never tried expressing! Luckily the HV's have been a lot more supportive of sticking to the breast feeding. We are constantly glued to the chart too. I bet the feeding clinic will put your mind at rest and you will probably meet other people in the same position.

Will catch up on the rest of everyone's news later, now its a toss up between Glee and TV Burp! Only one way to find out! Fiiiiight!!

Hi all

Seem so tired all the time, these middle of the night wakings are a killer aren't they but am sure when he is weaned it will improve.

Matthew has screamed like a girl since he was born but it is now higher pitched and much louder and longer lasting. I know I am making things worse but I have to pick him up as 10 minutes of his screaming is 10 minutes too long and he stops immediately. He cries when I leave the room which is a new one for me as neither of my girls got seperation anxiety.

His room is ready so put him in his cot and he wasn't having any of that so I can see another battle ahead.

Must go as he is awake after his short nap in his rocker. Didn't even get my tea drunk.

Love to all!

Hey all! We've got a screaming baby here too - Iam adopts a high pitched girlie scream when tired. It's quite funny (until he does it in my ear)

ruby glad to hear you got a longer break between feeds. No sign of that here yet!

I'm also getting signs of seperation anxiety which surprised me. W now cries if we hand him over to anyone unless he gets time to get used to them first from the safety of my lap!

fidelma glad to hear the reflux is settling. I too have been a bit slack on the weighing front, got William weighed at 17weeks (8 weeks was the last time) and he's now a hefty 18lb 1! DH did his back in trying to rock him to sleep..... Time to teach him to self settle and quickly!!!

Is anyone elses baby having wind trouble? William is despite being ok with it for the last month. Now the tiniest burp will wake him which is a right pain at 4, 5 and 6am!

devils maybe you've hit the dreaded 4 month spurt (although ours never stopped from 12 weeks). I've heard the phrase "regression to newborn" too many times when looking it up!

I'm now going back to sleep (bed by 8 to try and deal with the ridiculous nights)

Igglybuff · 07/02/2010 22:36

Just read my post. Iam?? I meant William of course... Whoops.

Can you tell me what pushchairs you all have? I'm getting a new one as decided the silver cross, despite being nice and small, isn't suitable just yet as faces away. Plus we want one for walking so looking at three wheelers... DH is going a big mad researching them all, doing spreadsheets for comparisons etc... Any recommendations would be welcome

HappyTangerine · 08/02/2010 07:28

Thanks everyone, Glad to know I'm not alone in the new sounds issue! Joseph laughed yesterday, proper laugh which was lovely-he's only properly laughed in his sleep before.

I am sitting here cluster feeding Joseph in his sleep and trying to do some of my OU Spanish course. Night feeds are a killer but I do get some work done. Although tonight I keep getting distracted by my shopping hunt for a nice trouser suit for a muslim wedding but can't seem to find one that isn't black, grey or white.

ruby-thanks for tip about the flannel, it helped. He went to sleep without calpol last nught-used a combo of A & P, anebesol and flannel.

fidelma-congrats on the audition and glad reflux is sorting itself out. Quinoa is one of my favourite foods, hadn't thought of trying it with Joseph.

HC Someone told me that 5-6 months is a key time for separation anxiety, we've a bit of it going on here too.

iggly-we have recently bought the Hauck Infinity in the Kiddicare sale and I love it. Very lightweight, surprisingly good on the grass, sandhills and beach. Has a rear facing pushchair which I was keen on. Actually, here's a question-at what point do you switch from carrycot to pushchair? I sympathise with the research, so much to choose from isn't there? Joseph is also suddenly waking with wind, so painful. He screams, I quickly burp him then he's off to sleep again.

Gotta go, Joseph ts grabbing my headphones in his sleep!

Rugbylovingmum · 08/02/2010 08:01

Hi all,

I'm trying to keep up with the thread but everytime I manage to read through the posts C wakes up before I can reply.

We have been having some really bad nights recently with C waking up to 10 times a night. It started a couple of weeks ago and has been driving me mad - she settles to sleep easily but can't seem to stay asleep. By chance the thermistat for our heating broke and the only way to get any heat was to set the thermistat to max - but then it didn't switch off. For the last 2 nights we have let our room get up to 20/21 degrees C then switched the heating off so it would cool gradually but not get too cold (we usually have it around 17 degrees). C has slept really well both nights , only waking once between 8pm and 5am. Hooray! Hope it continues! Poor little girl must have been cold but I don't know why it never bothered her before, room has been that temp since she was born. Now I just need to convince her to sleep later than 5am.

Apart from the sleeping she is doing really well. She is 16.5 weeks and really 'chatting' now and giggling and squealing. She doesn't roll yet but is very busy kicking, wriggling and chewing. She is feeding well and putting weight on so I think we will wait a few weeks before trying solids.

Ruby - hooray for 4 hours sleep.

Igglybuff - we have a britax vigour 3 wheeler which I love. It is very light to steer but so far has managed fine on muddy fields, snow, gravel tracks.... It can face towards us or away which is handy. It is quite bulky though and is more expensive than just a stroller/pushchair although we got ours cheaply on ebay.

Fidelma - glad the reflux is settling.

devilsadvocaat · 08/02/2010 08:50

hi everyone,

after a crazy weekend of feeding one hour sleeping one hour through the night, charlie woke twice in 8-8 last night. am having another go at self settling this week, but just for bedtime not day naps. charlie is just too big to rock now ad it takes over an hour to feed him to sleep. last night he sobbed for 20 mins. it was hard but i think it's for the best.

can't believe he's 20 weeks this week. i'm going to get him weighed on thurs. i'm sure they're going to say he's overweight. he's such a chubber! he doesn't look like an ebf baby at all. does anyone else have this?

charlie has a girly/creaky door squeal when he s getting bored.

hope all is well x

Igglybuff · 08/02/2010 09:02

HT I've not had William in the carrycot for a few weeks now which is why I want to get a rear facing pushchair. He doesn't like lying down anyway because of his reflux and wants to see the world. He gets on ok in the outward facing one we've got but when he gets tired he gets screamy (!) and it's easier to calm him when he's facing me! Plus I'd like to natter to him too.
William also wakes screaming with wind! It's really bugging me as there's so much and I can't always get it out before he sleeps.

Ruby - the britax in on our short list but I was worried about the width although I will probably keep the silver cross for any shopping. Does it fold down ok and fit into your carboot?

Devils - William is pretty big between 91 and 95%) and the GPs/HV are always surprised when I say he's EBF. I'm also with you on the self settling thing. Rocking is just too much although we did get a rocking chair just in case. I've tried putting William down sleepy but as he feeds to sleep, it's quite hard as he falls asleep on the boob before I get a chance!

Rugbylovingmum · 08/02/2010 09:37

Igglybuff - I have a little 3 door polo and the britax fits into my boot (I used to fit the base and carrycot into the boot and it's even smaller now we use the pushchair attachment). I can put it up one handed but need 2 hands to collapse it. The wheels come off easily too, we stick them in a bag if they are filthy. It is quite wide and I occasionally have problems in a shop with very narrow aisles but it is so light and turns so easily I have fewer problems than friends with smaller prams. I really like it but the only other one I tried was my friend's Jane (I think) which I found too heavy and hard to steer.

littlepea72 · 08/02/2010 09:46

Hey everyone, not been able to catch up lately, and looks like i wont be able to now either ....Faith & Ethan have the chickenpox, great. Better go, more crying has started xx

fidelma · 08/02/2010 09:59

Just to let you know C has become a huge screamer terrible noise !!!! he always gets a reaction with it

He is also still waking loads in the night, often for a burp or something.Last night I took him in with me just to get some sleep. However he just fed on and off

He is also eatting alot of food.Way more than any of my others at this stage.2 cubes of pear and quiona for breakfast and 3 cubes of carrot for tea.Plus a breast feed. All in one sitting.I am very scared. All my babies were big chubbas he is going to be a chuba chuba !!!!

One of my freezers has died so I am off to cook for all of youI wish you could come for tea as my other freezer is full We will all be chuba chubas !

fidelma · 08/02/2010 10:02

littlepeapoor you.We used calpol, eurax cream and piriton when ours had the pox and lots of cbeebies.Thinking of you.

devilsadvocaat · 08/02/2010 11:08

oh littlepea don't forget to pick up some choc for yourself, ill kids are draining.

oh god, that reminds me...

yesterday we took the boys to our local carvery for lunch. we'd just paid and were about to leave and ds1 was sick all over the floor in front of everyone eating their sunday lunch of course in true child-style there is nothing wrong with him at all. i left a massive tip and we won't be going back again.

princessmel · 08/02/2010 11:50

Hi all

I found out I was preg at around valentines day last year I did a test a few days before I was due my period.

noises F makes all sorts of noises. I love his laugh , so cute!

food Will not be weaning F for another 10 weeks ish. He feeds 2 hourly during the day (unless we're out then it is longer) and has decent gaps in the night. Last night was 8ish-3 am then till 7.30am.

During the day he still sleeps on me, feeding throughout most of the nap.(doing this now) So I can't do anything when he's asleep!!
Dh is off in half term and we may do some sort of sleep training. I can't leave him to cry. He did 4 mins on thur and it was awful. He goes purple, chokes and its horrendous.

buggy We have the Phil And Teds Sport. I am happy with it although F rolled off the drive into next doors front garden on friday I was getting a blanket from the car and the brake wasn't on and he wasn't strapped in. I know I know!! He was ok but I was very shook up, felt sick.
He has it in the reclining mode, not the very flatest one. Has been more sitting up a few times too. He's not really that keen on that yet.

weight I'm getting F weighed on thur with his 2nd jabs. I hope he's put on nicely. He feels bulky and seems nice and solid.

teeth Lots of dribble here and hand chewing. No pain as far as I can tell though.

rubylovingmum F sleeps better when all toasty too. I wrap him in a thinish blanket
(with holes in) then put a fleece blanket on top and last night a knitted one too. I think the weight of them helps him sleep too.

Great news about poos (hc), weight (CF) and results

Loads of snow here. We've been to the docs again today. She showed me some exercises to do to help release the mucous from F's chest. He is still wheezy, chesty, snuffly, sneezy and coughing. Super smiley though

CalypsoFramboise · 08/02/2010 11:52

v quick post

HT its annoying with the squeaky shouting, no? Annalise did that for a bit, but stopped when I didn't respond. Did notice that if I put her down for her naps a bit earlier that she didn't do it so much, so could have been tiredness too? Poor Joseph teething woes, A hasn't started yet, dreading it. x x Oh your pushchair is really nice! Annalise is still being carried in a sling everywhere but I suppose one day she won't be so portable!

fluffycats I love LittleLambs too, A has been in them since 8 wks, and she looked comical too They recommend 1/2 teaspoon of white wine vinegar to stop them getting stiff and hard and no fabric softner (affects absorbancy). Enjoy the fluffiness

littlpea hope your DCs all recover very fast, poor little things

fidelma heh, I'll gladly have some of your spare chubba, Annalise could do with some padding!

DA oh dear about the regurgitation

Annalise is pooing all the time, not diarrhoea, but now she has a nasty nappy rash. Gave her an hour of nappy-off time and she completely wore herself out by kicking about wildly the whole time. Just got her down for her nap with some intervention although I've found the shh/pat amazingly effective and she almost always gets herself off to sleep even with daytime naps with minimal input from me. However, I constantly feel like this lovely angel-baby period is about to end when teething will start so I'm most certainly counting my blessings every single time

HumphreysCorner · 08/02/2010 13:59

littlepea-both of them with the pox is not very nice. It will soon get better.

devils-how awful for you. Am sure you will be able to go back to the carvery.

fidelma-what time do you want us round? How annoying though.

Matthew hasn't been in the carrycot bit of the pram for ages as he likes to sit up, infact he got very little use out of it. I have the Silver Cross pram. I tried him in the pushchair bit but he looks so tiny in it so just use the car seat on the chassis and turn it into a travel system which is working well as he is never in it too long.

My latest dilemma is that he is too wide for the crib in our room now so now his room is ready I am going to put him to bed in his cot tonight. Thought he might not wake every 2 hours if he has more room . Anyway, have tried him in it this morning for a nap and he screamed so loudly. Left him quite a while then fed him incase he was hungry. Of course he fell asleep straight away so put him back in his cot which made him scream again. He is tired so laid him on his jungle gym mat and he is now asleep. Goodness knows how he will be tonight. He needs to be in the big cot as his arms stick through the bars on the crib. Wondering if weaning may help to settle him but am not doing it until I have had him weighed a couple more times as the HV is wanting to monitor his weight gain and weaning will mess this up.

-was never this complicated with DD1 and DD2. Must be a boy thing.

Have an hour until I have to collect DD1 from school so am going to have a cuppa being as though he is asleep.

Love to all!

HC

OP posts:
Rugbylovingmum · 08/02/2010 15:38

HC - probably a stupid question but have you put rolled up blankets/towels on both sides of him? DD slept fine in the cot once we did that. I think its partly because it stops the cot feeling so big but it also stops her staring out at the room between the bars - she is just too nosy to sleep when she has a view.

princessmel · 08/02/2010 15:58

We did that with dd, but put the fitted sheet over the top of the rolled up things. We had to use a larger sheet (a cot bed size one on the cot mattress) to make it fit.
