FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 18:59

pula great about the hat trick of nights..I don't think that makes you smug at all or i'd have to be classed as mega smug

headless sorry to hear about R coughing but wow on the roast dinner I went on to fb to check about jael too when i saw the news at 6.. she's posted an update 48mins ago saying she's off to watch 'up' and eat pringles with the family.. so think she escaped the stampede ok..

Belgianrockets · 15/11/2009 20:18

Evening everyone,

Just a quick one before x-factor gets going properly.

flippin Glad to hear you're working on it and getting there. Hope the appointment with the counsellor goes well.

pula for the nights

ses The BLW is going well I see

headless Hope the coughing gets better soon. C had it a week ago and having her bed on a good slope (surprisingly steep) and green baby chest rub. It worked better than ordinary baby vaporub and is made of 100% natural ingredients.

running Hope you're feeling better soon

We've had a bit of an adventurous day today. It all started OK until at 4 o'clock there was power cut. Obviously these sort of things always happen when DH is away and just as it's starting to get dark too. So I had to cancel all my houseworky/motherly/cooking plans and go hunt for our candles (still in a box in the garage somewhere), then quickly do a few things before daylight ran out, then go and beg for wood with the neighbours and light the woodburning stove in the living room. I've never lit one of those before in my life, but it worked and before long we were nice and warm again. Dd1 didn't understand the concept of 'no electricity' very well and suggested things like switching on the telly to get some light etc..., lol. The electricity came back on around 6 and everything was back to normal.

llareggub · 15/11/2009 20:35

Belgian blimey, well done for lighting the fire. Oh, and well done for ACTUALLY having candles to cope with a power-cut. You are truly an organised person!

Febes R is doing well on the weaning front! I think I need to pull my finger out with G a bit. WRT to your earlier post, my DS1 has barely eaten enough to keep a bird alive over the last year, and I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that 2 year olds are notoriously bad eaters. Our strategy was to ignore him when he left his food and made a mess. We didn't want meals to become a battle ground. My in-laws really pander to him and feed him but I refuse to do this as he has also been feeding independently since he was a baby. At 3 he is getting better but some days I wonder why he doesn't die of starvation. I just make sure I pile in plenty of veg into spag bol/cottage pie type dishes and give him plenty of juice. It'll get better. My DH ate only tomato soup and cheese sandwiches for a whole year!

PULA! I was with our mutual friend today. What a small world! She was amazed that we know each other and I think she is also a mumsnetter so I was a bit vague about where we "met." I didn't want to inadvertently "out" you.

Headless how is the cough now?

Momino how is your SIL doing?

Fi how is life with your DH?

Reggiee reluctant as I am to discuss baby poo we've had a similar problem with DS2. He has had 2 massive poos today, much, much softer than his recent efforts and he has also been much more settled this evening. I'm hoping for a better night!

We've had a lovely day today. We took advantage of a 30% discount at Gap and bought a few bits for DS1 and all the new babies my friends have had and then went to a party we organise every year for DS1's NCT group. It was really lovely to see everyone.

running have a hot toddy from me.

FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 20:43

febes missed your post on bottom of previous page.. phone browser playing up a bit. yay r on the roast too!

belgian glad your power came back on.. ds was same when we had a power while i was pregnant with G. it was a really long one this time last year iirc so we went out for our dinner. when we said the telly wouldn't work because of the power cut.. he went into our bedroom to watch that one instead and was surprised it didn't work! when we got the candles out he started singing happy birthday he got his bedtime story by torch light which he loved..

Belgianrockets · 15/11/2009 20:50

llare I'm not organised at all, hence the candles still being in a box in the garage somewhere. I only found part of them too, but luckily it was the fat ones I found, they last longer, lol.

febes I missed your post re toddler that hardly eats. The best advice I ever got regarding that was that at that age you should look at how much your lo eats over a week rather than each day. And TBH it's true! Dd1 used to barely eat some days and then have days where she'd eat non stop. I do say dd1, because with ds I was a little bit PFB and made him eat because I was worried with the obvious food battles as a result. With dd1 I was much more relaxed.

And as we're on the subject of baby poo: I was very proud to see that for the first time ever I found some evidence of solid food in C's nappy. Not much, but she's clearly been eating some of the bits I've been giving her. I don't think I've ever been so excited about baby poo as today

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 15/11/2009 20:52

Llareg That's good to know RE eating. It's just frustrating as she has always been a great eater. She's got really skinny as well. Maybe I'll chat to the HV at BF cafe this week. I'll just ignore her and thank goodness we have chickens. Not only a great recession pet but a great weaning and toddler fussy-eating pet.

Belgian Well done for coping so well in the power cut. ROFL at your DD1 suggesting to use the telly as light.

Belgianrockets · 15/11/2009 20:55

Phew. Dd1 just nearly gave me a heart attack. She suddenly appeared at the door just as I was going to the kitchen I hadn't heard her I jumped about a foot up in the air and let out a scream.

It really is quiet on here lately. It used to be so lively on this thread. I suppose everyone must have more interesting things to do nowadays, except for me who's sitting here on her own at home. I often wonder about our old a/n friends who left when the los were born.

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 15/11/2009 21:02

Don't be lonely Belgian, I'm here!! DH is ironing his work shirts and watching Top Gear.

FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 21:12

llareggub it's lovely to have dh back.. we all went to see ice age 3 at the cheap cinema showing this am which was fab. he gets the job of putting the rubbish out tomorrow now he's back & the flat is strewn with a fresh lot of coffee cups. he's off tomorrow too which is great but normal routine of house stuff and pre school runs don't run as smoothly somehow

G having a growth spurt i think.. she had a nap this afternoon but since she woke at 5 she's been awake feeding whenever offered all evening. still awake now but showing signs of sleepyness i've got her in lounge with us for the moment until she settles. off to offer more boob..

FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 21:23

I'm here too but dh has the laptop and my phone browser is playing up takes me ages to predictive text too!

FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 21:26

Phew! she's just gone to sleep.. that was a 4.5hr marathon session.. i had to break out the giant chocolate buttons!

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 15/11/2009 21:30

Right, back to catch up.

Belgian - well done on power cut survival! What an adventure, lol at telly for light!

pula - at your nights (and , can you send some magic our way, please?)

pumps - I've never tried the Tommee Tippee pump but I'm pretty bad at expressing. I managed to borrow a Medela Swing electric pump off a friend, it's fab. If I needed to express regularly I'd spend the £80 on one, no questions. I hate expressing though, no matter how careful I am it seems to mess up my milk balance and I end up feeling terrible.

All those ill or with ill children - hope things get better soon.

We've had a couple of really bad nights, A is obviously really uncomfortable and windy so we've cut back on the food for a week or so to see how it goes. We'll offer food at lunchtime, and maybe breakfast, but not in the evenings as her digestive system seems to be struggling, poor thing. She's been grumpy today as well, think it's teeth.

Lovely day today with my brother and SIL. No sister though, but we'll catch up soon I hope. Anyway, they were her for the day, brought some fab chocolate cake (they are both brilliant cooks), spent loads of time playing with the girls and generally hanging out.

Jael · 15/11/2009 21:42

Headless and Fi Thanks for your concern, were ok, thankfully. It was awful, were never going there again! We went because I wanted to see JLS and DD had been going on an on about seeing a band, so I thought if she saw a band on the stage for a few minutes that would fill her "need" and thought the DC's would love to see a BIG Christmas light switch on for a change...but NEVER AGAIN! We stood at the back of the crowds, and even there we still got pushed around, someone proper pushed DP and he almost fell over whilst holding DD. And DP saw two "young" men in front of us with knives in their back pockets, so we moved again, by the security, I saw JLS who were on stage for about 10 minutes and then baby J needed feeding and I wanted to desperately get away, he was in his buggy, with his raincover on, but I was so scared, there were too many people, no-one would let me through, he was sceaming for his dinner. People started pushing his buggy to get past him, I lost DP. I was alone for about 20 minutes trying to get inside, and no-one would let me past, it was awful. I was crying like mad. As soon as I got inside, I was shaking, I got J out and calmed him down and fed him, phoned DP, he found me, and we left, we went to have a coffee. It was then that we found out that they'd cancelled the rest of the show, over 60 people got injured, and that could have been one of us. I'll never go back again! We'll jus go to our town's light switch on instead I think I've been to one or two events organised by BRMB and they have been better organised than this one was. There wasn't enough security, so no-one was checking who had what on them. There wasn't a maximum occupancy, so they just kept letting more and more people in, and then wonder why people were geeting squashed to death...it was absolutely hurrendous.

SpangleMaker · 15/11/2009 21:46

Evening!

Fi sounds like you deserve those chocolate buttons.

Febes love the pictures of your little nephews on FB.

Well done those babies eating lots of food. It's funny, H seems to have lost interest in the last few days but his nappies suggest something other than milk is going through. I feel like I need to get my act together a bit more as I'm not very organised about meals and H keeps getting offered the same foods over and over again. In fact he didn't get anything this evening as we got in too late from ILs to cook and had pizza, which I'm not giving to H because of the cheese. I need a meal plan type thingy with some more meal ideas.

H gave us a real fright this morning. He escaped from his bumbo while it was on the dining table. We never leave him unattended like that, but DH stepped away for literally a couple of seconds to grab H's tray and when he turned round H was on the table I was in the room too but didn't hear anything until DH shrieked and dived for the table. H likes to twist around to lean over the side and somehow managed to squirm out. I'm shuddering just thinking about it.

Off now to make some lemon and ginger tea then an early night. Hope all mums & babies get plenty of sleep tonight.

SpangleMaker · 15/11/2009 21:50

Jael not seen the news so I don't know what happened, but sounds horrendous, glad you are ok.

FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 21:57

jael that experience sounds awful I have a real loathing of large crowds and I would have been really scared in that one. Glad you are all home safe and sound.. the local light switch on is my pref too

spangle it's amazing how quick those near miss omg dash to the rescue moments can happen. G decided to roll and launch herself sideways at an inopportune moment while on my knee whilst i was sat on the sofa this afternoon talking and playing with her... she surprised me and nearly rolled off onto the floor

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 15/11/2009 22:11

jael - that sounds really frightening, I'm so glad you are all ok. I hadn't seen the news so didn't know what had happened.

essenceofSES · 15/11/2009 22:13

Jael - sounds awful. Glad you're all home safe now.

flippin - glad you had a lovely day. Hope all goes well tomorrow.

Febes - sounds like R is doing brilliantly with food (which may be magnifying DD's current lack of interest?!)
I also have loved looking at the photos on FB of your nephews

Belgian - thought your DD1's suggestion of putting the tv on to get some light was soo cute!

Fi - wow! Def sounds like a growth spurt!

Spangle - at H's escape skills!

Pula - great news on how well S is now doing at night. Gives me a glimmer of hope...!

Running - hope you're feeling a bit better

Headless - hope R has a better night.

weaning - since introducing other things than the carrot and broccoli, DS has really started to get the hang of it! Loved breadsticks and Philadelphia yesterday and then cucumber sticks. This afternoon we went to our local pub for a meal and had a great time with a stick of bread dipped in my soup and then chomped on one of my chips!

sleep - I think it's time to move DS into his own room. Probably won't happen til next weekend now though. He normally wakes around 10.30 for a feed and if I've been asleep for only 20-30mins, I feel awful having to wake up and feed him. Last night, I decided to wait up until he woke. It got to 11.30 and I debated staying downstairs and sleeping on the sofa but couldn't get comfy so went up to bed at 11.45 and he promptly woke up. He had done 4.5hrs so I was really pleased. After I fed him he did another 3hrs in his cot before I brought him into bed. Doesn't sound great but it was one of the best nights we've had!

Belgianrockets · 15/11/2009 22:27

Ooh, I go for a bit because no one was around and suddenly it's crowded, lol

jael That must have been so scary. What a nightmare. I'm glad you're all OK. How bad that there was no security or control. It must have been even more scary for the los.

spangle These things do happen suddenly. One day they can't do something, the next day they can. C's thighs have become too fat to fit comfortably in her bumbo, lol. So it's been sitting in the corner unused. I should pack it away really.

I've swapped C's car seat today too for the Britax first class one I'd been given by a mum at school. C looks so much more comfortable in it now. She was so squashed in her carrier one. It's a bit though, you know packing away the proper baby car seat.

FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 22:37

I know belgian I must go through G's wardrobe and have a pack up the grown out of and bring out more of the next size things but i've not quite been able to push myself to do it..

Belgianrockets · 15/11/2009 22:50

Oh, fi don't get me started on her size 12m clothes. Really, when I feed her I feel like I'm feeding a toddler. She just doesn't fit on my lap properly anymore. She's growing so quickly.

Belgianrockets · 15/11/2009 22:54

I think I better go to bed now. I'm very tired from being up a touch too long, combined with slightly broken nights/early mornings. C's started annoyingly not always taking her dream feed lately. And then she wakes at 3 or so and then 6, which is early but too late to go back to sleep, IYKWIM. When she does take a proper dream feed she goes to 5-ish and then through to 7-7.30, which is much better. Fingers crossed she takes it tonight.

FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 22:59

night night belgian.. will keep my fingers crossed for you x

FiByTheSea · 15/11/2009 23:30

bed for me too... ds was up an hour ago and going to try topping up G.

Fingers crossed for a better nights kip for all...

xoxox

Momino · 15/11/2009 23:59
