jael glad you are all ok. Sounds like a really scary experience.

Am going to take R to the doctors today about his cough. He seems ok in himself, still smiley but he's not taking much milk and I can hear the mucus rattling around his chest. DH did the night work last night and I have vague recollections of R waking at least twice.

The weather is awful here today. i suspect it is everywhere else too.

Morning all,

Not had chance to catch up, but just wanted to say that it is amazing how S just doesn't feed in the night anymore, but he still wakes up so don't be too jealous! Last night he was awake 1.15-2.30 but i was determined not to feed him as he'd fed at 11pm. Think he might be teething though. I think bottom teeth usually come through first, but i think he might have a top one coming through?

My mum is here this week as DH is working away til Friday so I could do with some help. Good job too as it was torrential rain this morning so at least i could leave DS1 and DS2 at home whilst i took DD to school.

muddleddaizy · 16/11/2009 10:29

Morning!

Aarrghh whats happened to mumsnet? I used to view everything on one page and now I keep missing posts cos I forget to change pages

Hope everyone had a good night.

Headless Hope everything goes well at the Drs. I don't know whether to take ds2 as he sounds very phelgmy, I've taken him about 3-4 times in the last couple of months for the same reason and they just tell me he has a virus

We had a couple of really cute incidences over the weekend with ds2. My sister was holding him yesterday and his bottom lip started to quiver and he looked at me and my sister and I swear he said Mum Then a bit later he started wriggling round in my arms, for a minute I thought he was having a fit, but he was playing and the more we laughed the more he did it - oh he's so cute!
Also caught ds1 having a sneaky kiss with a girl in the church creche this weekend!

I have been so broody over the past week its just not funny. Dh said to me the other day if we could guarantee we'd have a girl then he's consider another baby. Does that give me hope or not

Jael sounds very frightening!

Febes I am in awe of you and your Christmas shopping. We're slowly getting the South African stuff together, but other than that I refuse to think about Christmas till 1st Dec!

Right sorry that was pretty much me, me, me! I'll try not to leave it too long before I post again! Got to try and make the house presentable before me friend gets here to cut my hair at lunchtime!

muddleddaizy · 16/11/2009 10:30

Ok I feel very stupid now, my view of mumsnet changed when I logged in

smokytom · 16/11/2009 12:33

Hi everyone- apologies for not being about much lately we've been snowed under with visitors recently

Will try and catch up with all your news later

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 16/11/2009 12:50

Morning everyone! Opps it's actually after 12 so ...
Afternoon everyone!

Belgian and Fi We are really racing through the clothes too. I will need to put some more away and take out the next size again soon. I think R looks too big for his baby car seat but I didn't put DD in the bigger car seat until she was 11 months so not sure if its too early. I think its on weight. I have no idea what R weighs now- a lot!!.

Ses glad you and O are enjoying the weaning. Pasta is a favorite round here. I have also been leaving R until he wakes instead for giving a dreamfeed and it is 12, 1 or 2 normally. He has been going about 4 houly at night lately which is better but I'd love him to go longer....

Jael That sounds awful- thank goodness you were ok. I don't like big crowds like that either.
I had my blood test results and they were all normal with no need for action . I have an appointment for this afternoon to see the locum (normal doc is on a course) but it seems like it is a virus so they won't be able to to aything about it anyway. The rash is awful and all over my body. It gets really red and angry looking at night and gets little bit itchy but not too bad IYKWIM I have cold symtoms for the past few days so that tells me virus.

I went to Mum and toddler pilates class this morning. A young girl who has just qualified has started the class and her mum is a registered CM so she sat with R. There was only me and another mum there today which was great as we were both so unfit it was embarrassing!! Our toddlers didn't really join in but were happy running around together. She is running the class free until christmas and after only £5. Which is great as DCs are right there so no worries about childcare. I seriously need to do some exercise as I couldn't do some of the moves but I guess I can only get better.

Huge post!!!

Momino · 16/11/2009 13:34

hi all.
I'm going to catch up in short choppy posts, hope you don't mind.
I've just put a yelling Harper down for a nap and realising I'm going to have to give in and get 'no cry sleep solution'. have no clue what's bothering her but i'll be here and there.

also have a whingey, tantrumming toddler - dd2 is being a nightmare and not sure if she's poorly or just being 2. febes, ironically she's stopped eating for the past 5 days. the last time she ate was at nursery (doesn't do much for my self-esteem as a cook!). she's just had a few spoonfuls of baked beans so am happy with that for the time being.

llare, I'm also trying the Ignore strategy, I don't want to have dinnertime be a battleground. she's awfully grumpy though which I'm sure would be helped if she ate.

jael, at your experience. glad you're ok.

pula (or anyone up North!), meant to say earlier, would love to see you again if you're ever up in York. Christmas shopping? Film?

Belgian, scary about the power cut. glad you found the candles though. I think you must be the type who is organised but doesn't admit you're organised .

ok, going to listen if H has dropped off to dreamworld and back to catch up on p13.

Belgianrockets · 16/11/2009 13:47

Hi everyone,

A nice and quiet day here today. C's been in a very good mood today giving me lots and lots of big beaming smiles, which is nice. She wasn't too keen on going down for her nap though. She wasn't angry for once, just kept smiling at me and grabbing at my face She dropped off quietly in the end. That's v. unusual for her at nap time, normally she either falls asleep feeding or crying, but never the gentle drifting off like today. It was lovely.

febes In a way it's good news about your test I suppose. At least it's nothing more sinister than a virus, IYKWIM. Re carseats I was given a bigger car seat by someone, but it's the kind that can go rear and forward facing, so C's still rear facing, but less squashed

momi I was much better at ignoring with dd1, I think it's because as a 2nd child she sort of got left to it a bit more than ds. Even now she's the easiest eater.
Why does everyone think I'm organised. Honestly I'm not . I just happen to have candles at home from 2 christmasses ago, you know to have something nice on the table.

I've booked a drs appt for myself today, I should have done this earlier, but I just keep putting it off. I keep having a pins and needly heavy feeling in my right leg. I've had a good look at my leg for DVT symptoms, but can't see anything wrong at first sight. It's still worrying me though, so hopefully the dr can give me an idea what's wrong with it.

Momino · 16/11/2009 13:54

H is quiet and DD1&2 in front of cbeebies, becoming a regular lunchtime thing as I need (want? no, need) an hour break from the 3 so I can eat lunch, breathe, MN . and actually, get my 1000 jobs done. i don't know what else to give them to do that would keep them occupied a full hour.

LadyH, hope R's cough is better.
febe, poor you! glad blood results are ok but suppose that doesn't help you figure out what to do about the rash. oh, and pilates class sounds great. I'd love to do something like that, maybe I'll search out a class here.

muddled, love the bottom lip quiver. dd1&2 never did it much to my disappointment as i find it so cute. am hoping H will develop it as she'll get anything she wants then .

my SIL is ok at the moment, must ring her tonight. she's just had a bad time in the 2 weeks following her baby's arrival. she had to go to hospital saturday, wait 2 hours because her stitches weren't healing. apparently it was still an open wound 11 days past.

still catching up...

Momino · 16/11/2009 14:08

ok. H is not quiet. she's fussing and not sleeping. yesterday, she had about a total of 1hour daytime sleep (unusual for her) and a broken night of sleep (was awake from 3am). so why isn't she sleeping now? someone please tell me! am going to go up in a minute to try the feeding route.

ses, O's doing marvellous with his eating. that's great!

spangle, H twisted out of the bumbo a few times so we have to watch as well since it's her main high chair at the moment.

oooh, sorry for anyone missed. i really have to go get H whose cry is escalating. guess my 'Mummy Time' is just a half hour today. and no jobs done either (MN is much more important!).

hope everyone ok.

HeadlessLadyH · 16/11/2009 15:15

belgian do get your leg checked out!

febes did you have your rash before kids at all? A friend of mine developed one in the later stages of her second pg and it never went. It looked like patchy excema over her arms.

R and I do mum and baby pilates. To work on the old core muscles. I'm used to good old fashioned aerobics so its a culture shock to go to a class and not work up a sweat. I'm hopeful thought it will have an impact eventually.

momi bloody sleep. You think you have it cracked with naps/nighttimes etc and then the next day they do something completely different!!

Have an appointment for R tomorrow morning. He's been coughing less today so we'll see how he gets on.

OP posts:
Belgianrockets · 16/11/2009 15:36

headless I know I should have done it earlier, but I've now got the 1st drs appt that was available. Unfortunately it's not til thurs and it's after school too so if DH isn't back by then I'll be dragging 3 dcs along with me too Hope R is getting better soon. You'll find that his cough will have magically dissapeared tomorrow morning. That usually happens here when we book drs appointments

I just had to tell you all this what happened just now. It's soooo funny. Ds came out of school clutching a note and saying: 'I don't want to wear saggy tights' I didn't know what he was on about and read the note... It said for Children in need, can everyone come dressed in snazzy tights. Oh I was PMSL all the way home. Poor ds was very embarrassed.

Tummum · 16/11/2009 16:31

Afternoon everyone. Busy day here in the Tumm household, but satisfying to get stuff done.

Had a bit of a scary experience yesterday, when a really goo friend of mine's DD (7) went missing for 4 hours. We had the police helicopter out and everything, but then she turned up having been playing with the much older kids in the house next door. It was just so scary, with one half of my brain thinking 'She'll just turn up, she's bound to be with a friend', and the other half thinking 'what if she's been kidnapped, what if she's out there on her own in the dark.'

Jael I did think of you when I heard the news. Glad you are OK

Febes rubbish news about the rash. It drives me mad when Drs say 'it's just a rash' I think it means they don't know what it is !

Muddled cute bottom lip wibble !

Monimo we went to the Hester B updated Little Chef on Sun for some breakfast and it was really tasty. Might be worth checking out the York one.

Gotta dash, DS kicking off.. must be the grumping hour... !

essenceofSES · 16/11/2009 16:41

Febes - your pilates class sounds good! When and where is it??... Would they be interested in an extra person??!

Belgian - at saggy tights!
Good that you've got that appointment. Hopefully it'll just put your mind at rest.

Momi - maybe H is having that so-called 6 month time of being clingy and unsettled due to a development spurt? Sorry can't help any more.

muddled - DS sounding v cute atm

smoky - hope you've had a good time with your visitors

We went to toddler group again today. There really aren't that many babies there so O gets quite a good choice of toys

Our other news today is that we've had planning permission granted for a single storey extension to our kitchen. We had originally wanted 2 storeys to give us an extra bedroom but we couldn't get that granted. This will give us a much better kitchen and we're hoping to put an Aga or a Range in. The dogs will love that and will probably vacate "their room" to sleep by the Aga. That'll mean the "dogs' room" can become a play room.
All v exciting anyway

essenceofSES · 16/11/2009 16:44

Tummum - sorry x-posted!
That must have been v scary. Glad it turned out well in the end

Belgianrockets · 16/11/2009 19:12

tummum How scary. Those must have been the longest 4h of your life. Luckily it all ended well

I've got a question re: dd1 (6), maybe I should start a new thread, but I'll ask here first. We had parent-teacher evening this week and they brought up that they were worried about her gross motor skills. 1 thing I've noticed is that she's taken to walking with her feet turned inwards, something she started doing after starting reception. I always thought it was something she started doing because she was dragging her feet and not wanting to go in, because she also walks vvvveeerrrrryyyyy slowly. The other thing the teachers noticed is that she struggled doing the big hand movements in the 'writing dance'. She used to do gymnastics and she wasn't very good at doing some of the excercises. Now I'm feeling bad, because maybe I've missed something important by ignoring the clues. Should I worry you think? It's hard to describe in words what I mean with how she walks and moves.

FiByTheSea · 16/11/2009 19:40

headless how did you get on at the doctors? is R's cough any better?

belgian glad you're getting your leg checked out.. hopefully they can let you know why it's happening & stop it going tingly.

omg tummum I think that has to be on of my worst nightmares re our dcs. So glad it turned out well..

febes I hope your rash goes really quick now... how frustrating to have to just wait for it to go on its own.

muddled still broody here too & the awwww dc moments are lovely

Well today has been really busy... DH was off so while ds was in pre school I attacked the washing basket & hoovering while dh did those jobs around the house that needed doing for a while iykwim.

At lunch G decided to nick a slice of my buttered toasted chiabatta off my plate. she'd just had a bf before nicking it and was definitely not up for giving it back! In the end I let her carry on happily sucking and gumming it into a soggy mess She may have eaten some of it . A bit hard to tell... but I know she really enjoyed it. When I had to take the soggy bit away she was quite upset and tried to grab it back furiously. As she seemed so keen I thought i'd pop her in the high chair and try her with some other things... so I gave her some quarters of avocado and a baton of
mango to investigate. She managed to pick up the avocado and have a gum at it... I think some got eaten and she liked it as she kept picking it up every time she dropped it by accident. The mango on the other hand produced a shudder wtf is this face when sucked once and was ignored! The combo of playing/eating some food today with my probable increase in milk this evening has meant she went to sleep happily this evening... no repeats of last nights 4.5hr marathon thankfully. Looks like we've just started BLW!

The weather was still absolutely atrocious here again today so I left the boys at home while G & I headed for our local cake decorating shop to buy the icing etc i need to finish the birthday cake i'm doing for my pals daughter (sweet 16yrs). I'll start work on icing the cake boards and making some of the decorations tomorrow as i can't be bothered tonight

FiByTheSea · 16/11/2009 19:50

sorry belgian took me so long to type my mammoth post I've just seen yours. I don't have any advice with gross motor development... what did the school suggest if anything? I'm sure in every class there will be some 6yo who are very advanced, some who are average and some who are still developing their gm skills in comparison. There may or may not be anything wrong & if her last school didn't say anything It can't be anything major I think?

Belgianrockets · 16/11/2009 20:04

Well, the school thought they'd ask me first if I was concerned, I wasn't really until they asked. I thought her walking would be something that she grows out of and I don't tend to do dances with her. They said they'd get in touch with the school nurse for advice. I might to the same, just in case they forget or something. I'm now trying to think what kind of excercise would be good for her gm skills. I don't think the gymnastics that she used to do suited her all that well.

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 16/11/2009 20:10

Ses You would definately be welcome to the pilates class. There were only 2 of us there today so it was great. It's in Motspur Park at the Scout Hut- called Arthur Rd I think. Monday 9.30-10.30. Its free till Christmas so a real bargin. Your extension sounds lush-an aga !!
Our lean to/conservatory thingy is nearly finished. We are waiting for the door to be delivered on Friday. I would love it all done and looking good for DDs birthday party on Sunday. Poor DH is out there painting etc as soon as he gets in from work.

Belgian what on earth are they wearing snazzy tights for??? What the CIN theme this year?

Tumm My worse nightmare. Thank goodness she is home safe and sound.

Headless DD and I have the lurgy so hope it passes soon. Hope R is feeling better soon. It's so hard when the docs can't help and you don't know if you should be taking them but don't want to do nothing.

Momino Don't feel bad about having an hour in the day to rest and eat. I'm lucky that DD still naps most days but they don't always nap at the same time and on those days I feel really drained that I don't get a few minutes to myself. I hate it when people phone in the time as well.

Momino · 16/11/2009 20:22

Belgian, no advice either from me re: GM skills. only thing I can say is don't worry. talk to your GP for more information. also, glad for your own GP appt to put your mind at ease.

tummum, that is a very scary story indeed. I'm so glad all turned out well.

ses, very exciting about the extension. also, love the 'dogs' room' .

Fi, G sounds like she's doing so well at BLW. is it as messy as our meals? I haven't tried avocado yet but have a ripe one so will do tomorrow. fun, green and slimy mess to look forward to.

ladyH, glad you have an appt tomorrow for R, hope he has a good night.

we'll see how Harper does tonight. she's been restless all day which makes me think she'll have a restless night again but who knows? she had 3 nights in a row of 10/11 hours so I will think about that at 3am tomorrow morning.

Momino · 16/11/2009 20:30

ah, tummum, youreminded me: I'm dying to try the new Heston Blumenthal Little Chef. We've passed it a few times, will stop the next time.

FiByTheSea · 16/11/2009 20:37

momino i have uploaded some photos of g's experiment with the mango and avocado to fb this evening . It wasn't too messy... but only because i had a wet flannel handy to prevent total re-decoration!

Momino · 16/11/2009 20:47

Fi, just had a look, your children are absolutely beautiful!

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 16/11/2009 20:48

Fi G is such a pretty girl. I wonder if her hair will be as thick as your DSs one day. My DD was the same bald until 12 months but R has lovely hair.

Belgian not sure about GM skills. Try not to worry yet but do ask your GP about it.
