llareggub · 10/09/2009 09:44

Actually, I think once they are able to roll etc it is OK for them on their tummies. Not sure, you'll have to google that one.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 10/09/2009 09:53

Food:

Have been having a debate with myself (I get very argumentative with myself too, nearly came to blows the other day). Next Friday the menu at the school is coeur de boeuf. Beef heart (or bee-fart as I have been amusing myself by calling it ). Am I being unduly wussy by letting the kids come home for lunch that day? I would not under any circumstances eat heart and feel that the girls would never forgive me.....

ses It's difficult, isn't it. The advice is to put babies to sleep on their backs but some babies are definite tummy sleepers. I personally would put him to sleep on his tum if he sleeps better that way. S will go merrily into her cot when I go to bed but insists on staying in my bed after a night feed (she fusses and frets if she's put back in her cot). I am far to lazy and pathetic to put her back in her cot and endure the wrath so I let her snoozle away in bed with me. Plus I really like having her snuggled into me for the last couple of hours of the night/early morning.

Loobs holiday yay!!!!

Momi I've always hated getting out of bed. At the mo it's the fear of being late for school that forces me out of bed (they're very, very strict here).

Llareggub & Grumpy - thanks, it helps to hear what others would do and different opinions. He's still asleep up there on his tummy! I'm still in my PJs as I don't want to go and disturb him! I really should be doing something constructive but I keep thinking he's going to wakt up any minute!!
I think I maybe will try and put him down on his tummy tonight after he falls asleep on me and see if that helps him stay in his cot more than a couple of hours. I could really do with a longer sleep and also a more comfy sleep when I'm not stuck in one position curled round him!

Grumpy - as for eating heart... I'm a bit lost for words!

SpangleMaker · 10/09/2009 10:45

Ses if it doesn't bother you then I don't think you should see it as a problem. I'm with llare on the 'whatever works' school of parenting, though I've had moments of self doubt, particularly when reading sleep books/threads etc, which I think is entirely natural with first babies! I guess you could try having something in the cot (safely, somehow) that you've been wearing/slept on so he feels more comforted in his cot. Also I would have thought the first period of the night (that he spends in his cot) will get longer as he gets older and learns to sleep for longer periods.

Grumpy perhaps I am too laid back about these things, but my biggest worry about DCs having bee-fart is that they would love it and want me to cook it for them - or worse, eat it - myself!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 10/09/2009 10:50

esso'ses Heart. I know. I actually hadn't twigged at first, I was trying to work out what some of the other days' meals were. The school meals here are fantastic, though. They're 4 courses with loads of fruit and veg. Plus, they're proper sit-down-at-table-and-food-is-brought-to-you meals. They're reasonable too, 21.50? for 10 tickets (so a week and a day's worth of lunches for the 2 of them). But still. Heart. They do tongue as well.

S is sleeping atm, I should be doing the washing but MN keeps calling me back........

OP posts:
Momino · 10/09/2009 10:54

Ses, would he sleep on his side (foetal)? otherwise i echo llare/spangle/grumpy in do what works best.

grumpy... heart ! that's like fried bulls' balls as was shown on Jamie oliver's usa trip the other night. blech. can you just tell them it's beef and stop there? not exactly lying is it? .

belgian, haven't seen your house .

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 10/09/2009 10:55

Plus there's a gigantic spider somewhere in the back kitchen where my washing machine lives.

Why can't the spiders live outside and the lizards live inside. To paraphrase Jarvis Cocker, I like 'watching lizards climb the wall'.

Strolls off singing 'Common People' (and doing Jarvis's dance from the video long fingers ahoy!!)

OP posts:
Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 10/09/2009 10:57

Fried bulls' balls . Christ Almighty that makes me want to heave.........

And belgian lovely pics of the house and the village - it looks heavenly!

Must brave the spider, must brave the spider, must brave the spider, must brave the spider, must brave the spider.

Bonne matin, mes amies!

Seems we've gone all french on this thread, and as we've just returned from Langedoc, it all seems appropriate!

Did I spot a debate about french supermarkets a way back?? My own personal favourite is Geant as it reminds me of where I did my shopping when I was a chalet girl. Also like the Casinos (same chain??)as they were the local ones to me in Courchevel. Aahhh, best few months of my life being a chalet girl...........

ses am also a moules frite fanatic. Best with a v large ice cold vin blanc I find!!!

grumpy I've forgotten where in france you are? I so jealous now as I've been reminded on our hols just how much I love the place. As for eating bee fart. I'd let em. Provided you are not vegetarian of course! They'll prob not know what it is. Let us know what you decide and if they have it, what it tastes like!

tummum i had DH nagging me about Rufus's passport. What IS it with them? He decided on the french hol and it as ME that realised R would need a passport so I did all the necessaries (forms pics etc), DH sent it off and then nagged ME for 4 days to chase it! When I did, it was in the post to us anyway.

Just on the hol, can I tell you that French campistes are the best family hol EVER. Fab mobile home - small but well equipped. Deck, AC, gas BBQ, lovely (But bleeding freezing) swimming pool, on site shops so fresh croissants and baguette tous les jours. We were right on a gorgeous beach too. Weather fab too. DS1 had a ball. His favourite part was joining in the dancing in the pool, some sort of water aerobics.

R is now rolling all theway over and has begun trying to pull his legs up to his chest whilst on his tummy. He's bgun grabbing his toys and a couple of times he's managed to clunk his fist on to a button on his mobile and started the music. More by luck than design tho. He has turned into a manic thumb sucker which is great. Especially after his 3 jabs yesterday. Thumb went in straight after and so no prob, thank you very much!!

Right thats enough for now. Got to whizz the hoover round before picking DS1 from his playgroup.

Good to see you all!!

Jael · 10/09/2009 11:37

Morning- Thought I'd post while I'd got a few mins, I've been reading, you girls chat so much! By the time I've read everything, I haven't got time to post lol I just ablout manage to update my FB, but that's because I can do that on my phone
I don't know what's going on with baby J, he's 18 weeks, and our perfect little baby thaty was going all through the night is now having two 7oz feeds in the night, and the HV doesn't think he's ready for weaning...

Oh gosh...I starting typing that msg at 9am and then weve had to rush off to A+E! DD tried to pick up J and dropped him on his head! so he's had to be all checked over, they think he's ok, but weve got to keep a close eye on him for 3-4 days.

DD's first hald day of nursery today too, what a day! She's got to be there for half twelve. Right gtg Jael XX

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 10/09/2009 12:13

hi

we're back from new m&b group, lots of toddlers running about throwing toys bit clicky too

however there was a great BF counsellor there so ended up talking to her, may have ostrasised (sp) myself from other bottle-feeding mums by doing so tho

oh well - quick lunch then off to another group

LoobyLou36 · 10/09/2009 13:06

bee fart - yuck!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 10/09/2009 13:08

And where is dandy? She no postee for ages.....

OP posts:
runningmonkey · 10/09/2009 13:21

Afternoon,

Well, we're back from Dr's appt re A's weight gain or lack of. Dr thought she could hear a heart murmur so we've been referred and I'm under instructions to just keep doing what I'm doing re feeding and not top up. DH's sister had a hole in heart that needed an operation so that's a bit of a worry but won't know anymore until we've been for an ultrasound. The GP said she would rush it through so we weren't hanging around waiting and said to keep an eye on my mood, eat well, rest and keep talking to HV etc. I feel a lot better in myself today and while obviously worried about A at least I know I'm not doing anything wrong. Just hope they phone soon.

runningmonkey · 10/09/2009 13:28

Ok so catching up...

ses sounds like you're doing exactly what we're doing her re sleep, trying to get A to sleep first bit of night in cot (which for us is as little as 20 mins) then moving her to the bed. She is also a wriggler and keeps getting her legs stuck in the cot bars and waking herself up

grumps or should that be 'captain bee-fart' ikwym re eating it but one way to look at it is that its just a muscle like every other bit of meat we eat... albeit a tough one given the work it has to do. Hope they cook it well! Unlike kidneys which I never eat because their job is to make wee and so eating them is yukky

Jael hope J is ok.

ladyh hol sounds fab

loobs in case I forget have fun at vanfest... don't spend too much money

Am loving the ideas for revenge on tum's DH

RIght better go spend some time with DH seeing as he took today off to be with me and A... back later

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 10/09/2009 14:35

running Just got the Captain reference

I hope A is ok, I don't know anything about heart murmurs but how worrying for you . I hope everything goes well, I shall be fretterising for you. I hope they phone you soon.

I still haven't located the gigantic arachnid, but I have eaten 4 biscuits whilst whimpering. I'm sure the trembling in fear will have burnt off the calories.

FUCKING* NORAH. The house has just been strafed by a f*cking jet (the French Air Force have a habit of strafing houses that we stay in), I thought the house would be hit........I jumped about 6 feet in the air.

OP posts:
Momino · 10/09/2009 14:39

jael, glad all well with baby J. both dd1&2 try to pick up Harper before i stop them. one of these days...

runningm, try not to worry, it may be nothing. if it is heart murmur, not sure if what can be done but don't think it usually affects the person. my sister has one we'd never know.

flying post... back off to town to try a new baby friendly cafe. review to follow (must try lots of cakes).

Jael · 10/09/2009 14:56

Just been having a little tidy round while DD is at her first day of nursery, the house is sooo quiet lol yes J is ok, apparently DD said that J had "moved" around his playmat, so she was just moving him back. I had a little shout at her, but then felt kinda bad, because she doesn't really understand. He's just started rolling over and moving etc, so she doesn't understand that if I put him down on his playmat in one place and go into the kitchen, he's not going to be in the exact place when I come back in. She thought she was helping. He really banged his head though, but as he didn't lose conciousness, and wasn't sick, they say he should be ok, just keep our eye on him for the next few days.

Momino Our tomatoes are all green too by the way, I want them to go red, because DD wants to eat them in her salad lol

sausagenmash · 10/09/2009 15:02

Oooooh re babies on tummies... M can now roll over, and i put her in her cot yesterday for a snooze, popped my head in 5 minutes later and she was sparko on her tummy! Aaaarggh! I was in a mad flap, but I let her sleep and she had the best snooze in ages! Harumph.

Got an email from the 'Bounty club'- my next pack is ready for collection from Boots or Asda - anyone else get one?

Grumpy - re French nosh - you watch, it will be horse next (aargh) (am willing to try most things - snails, frogs legs, even tose wichitty grubs things in Australia that they nibble on in 'I'm a Celeb...' - but no (should that be neeeiiigh?) to horse!)

LadyHelen2 - your hol sounds fab! I may be going to Spain in November with mes parents... dunno yet.

More wedding planning fiasco - dp's Mum - for the second time has said someone else in her family can come - actually to them - my parents were the ones that sent out invites! I'd much rather invite one of my friends if there is space, instead of bloody Auntie Gerry's son Mark, who dp doesn't even bloody know, just because he wants to show off his new bloody car. Sorry, but FCK OFF*. Breathe. (ps I only swore then, because Grumpy did a few posts ago, so she has set the standard ) Honestly. Dp's Mum. He emailed his Dad saying he wasn't happy with his Mum when she stayed, re the HV visit, and his Dad has replied saying 'oh, she's jsut so excited, and you know we're never going to see M grow up into a young woman, she wants to see her as much as possible' - aaaaaarrrrghhhh! I ould go on and on and OOONNNNN.

I'm off. Am at my parents and Mum has M and I'm 'studying'. Oops

sausagenmash · 10/09/2009 15:04

pah those not toes.... and soz about the other mistakes

.... and my 'bolding' didn't work on my swearing bit. Bum.

muddleddaizy · 10/09/2009 15:31

My my - everyone is chatty today!

Running hope you get an appt through soon and all is well with A.

Reebee Hope all is well with F too. When ds1 was born his head was on the 99.6 percentile and the dr (who had absolutely no people skills) at his 6 week check put the wind up me and had his head measured every 2 weeks before the hv convinced he was just a big boy! I mean his length was off the chart and his weight was 98 percentile! Anyhow I'm waffling on here, I'm just trying to reassure you!!

Looby persevere with the group. I've found they are a nightmare to get friendly with people but it does happen eventually!

Jael glad J is okay, must have been very frightening.

Grumpy you've taken me back to my french exchange and we had to eat cows tongue. Yuk, yuk, yuk! As for beef heart, no thanks along with the frogs legs, mussels etc.

Momino hope you had a good time at the cafe. Mum's just given me some Tiffin - it is amazing stuff choclatey thing and it even has apricots in so there's 1 of my 5 a day.

Sausage I'm of the opinion that if my dc can roll over and sleep I'm not about to turn them over again. Mind you ds2 has been in his own room for 9 weeks now!

Tummum · 10/09/2009 15:48

Funny story of the afternoon... after running around today, have just sat down with laptop with DS on the floor. I was minding my own business, then YOWCH DS sinks his teeth gums into my big toe ! The little bugger has only gone and rolled across the room towards my feet and decided to have a snack

ladyhelen2 · 10/09/2009 15:55

daizy mmmmmmm tiffin. Can't get the thought of that out of my head now and I have vowed no cakes until my last half stone is shifted. Am trying not to have wine during the week now (how did I go 9 months without????) after a holiday where about half a bottle quaffed by me every night. V naughty I know. But its the french culture innit?!

jael glad J is ok.

running I had a heart murmur as a baby too and it corrected itself quite quickly which (and I could be wrong here as I'm no doctor) but I think its quite common for heart to do that as they get stronger and bigger. Try not to let it worry you.

Was wondering the same about Dandy.I noticed as I was reading there were no posts for a good few days from her. Hope you're OK dandy!!

essenceofSES · 10/09/2009 17:49

sleep - thanks for all your comments. I feel reassured and will carry on at our own pace

running - hope you get that appointment soon but as others have said, try not to let it worry you too much as heart murmers generally do not cause any problems.

sausage - I really don't envy you trying to organise a wedding with a lo. Sounds like your "nearest & dearest" could be a bit more thoughtful/helpful.

Tummum - lol at snacking on your toes

Jael - must have been really scary but great that J is fine now. He'll have forgotten all about it by now.

My achievement of the day is that the scales read less than 12st for the first time in about 18 months Great but still a way to go...
