TS I would be if DH did that about food - although he does whinge and whine endlessly when I cooke what he doesn't want. I am also one who uses food for nurturing people. If Dh has had a bad day there are always ingredients for something sweet and yummy to make him feel better On the babyfood front I am feeling very uninspired by DD food at the moment she will eat most things but when 5pm comes unless there are any leftovers I am pretty brainless about what to feed her. SHe often has fruit, sandwich, snacky veg or avocado, tomato, cheese and bread with banana and a drink.

We spend too much on food a weekly shop of about £80 then 2 or 3 £20 - £40 little trips. We are menu planning this week and doing an online shop accordingly. Now all I need to do is stop DH eating the ingredients for each meal!

DIZZY your 'fat sex' made me giggle and made DH and made me promise I would never disclose such a thing. Hope you have some luck with the bike shop tomorrow.

SAZZLES sounds like a good night out - I am counting the days until my girls night out on the 20th. Not staying out all night but leaving DD with DH and going 40minutes away, which will be the furthest I have been from her alone .

CYTEEN When are you off on hols? Have a great time and enjoy your DP and DS.

BUCKES nioght out sounds great - I think I will follow your lead and be in bed by 8.30 tonight!

We ordered our new kitchen yesterday. Which is why we need to cut down on the unnecessary spending. We also decided to have the tiles replaced on the kitchen and hallway floor as the old ones are wall tiles and dangerously slippery when wet. We only went to see what the guy had come up with but before we left DH opened a cupboard and the shelf fell on his head! So if anyone knows any cheap tile shops I would love to know where they are!

DD has a cold and is a great snotgoblin so sleep last night was intermitent. We took her to the IL 's this morning and went out for brekker, I can't claim Sazzles level of healthy eating but avoisded the whole fry up thing by having scrambled eggs on toast, grilled mushroom and a rasher of bacon.

oopsacoconut · 02/08/2009 15:58

Oh heavens above that was a novel

LoveBuckets · 02/08/2009 16:18

I'm still a bit limited foodwise for Kurt as he STILL doesn't have any teeth on top. In an emergency I use frozen puree cubes with crumbled up ryvita and grated cheese.

These guys are v helpful and just round the corner from me so you could pop in for coffee to make it worth the travel.

steaknife · 02/08/2009 18:19

Oooh proper bacon. Add that to the list. Mixed day here. Made Izzy a dress but otherwise not such a great day. Really looking forward to getting away from all this nonsense and starting all kinds of new nonsense. Sigh.

oopsacoconut · 02/08/2009 18:25

STEAKY - I am very envious of your ability to just wizz Izzy a dress from nowhere! Have you been Izzy-less for a bit?

DD just asked to go into her prison travelcot and is not playing happily and shouting at DH occasionally. I redeemed my bad parent food issues this evening and made DD veggie soup using the veg from the garden then I thickened it with a bit of double cream and homemade bread.

oopsacoconut · 02/08/2009 18:25

now not not

sarahnh · 02/08/2009 18:30

evening all,

Happy Birthday to all the lo that i have missed!!
Bought Tessie a smart trike for her b-day and ended up giving it to her today 10 days early!!! I was so excited about and for once it wasn't raining.. so she and her big sister went for a bike ride to the park!!

Re food, i agree its a complete nightmare what to feed them, tessie always has mash and veg at least once a day... evening times is anything i can lay my hands on, nearly always with bread!!

TS if its any consolation my DH is a bit like yours, although he either complains if i haven't cooked, or if i have, starts adding loads to it cos its missing something!! end result is its normally chucked in the big as its no loger edible and a take out arrives!!!

sarahnh · 02/08/2009 18:31

oops that should say "bin"

steaknife · 02/08/2009 18:52

Oops - your soup sounds tasty. Pils had Iz thurs and friday. Mansteak had here yesterday and today. They collect her around 11 30 And drop here back around 5 30 she loves it but it does mean all she wants to do when she gets home is climb all over me. I just seem to be shattered all the time so then feel bad that i don't have the energy for her. Will try and put a pic of the new dress up when i can find a pc that works. Making some winter trousers for her tonight.

steaknife · 02/08/2009 19:01

Sarah my x, mansteak, used to do that. It would drive me mad. In the end i would make sure dinner was all but finished so he couldn't interfere. I prefer having a week of lunches and dinners planned out for at least 5 of the 7 days. I don't always plan day by day just make sure i have enough meals for the week. I always try and include quick and easy things like homemade burgers for busy days. And always make sure i have eggs, flour and milk. Then if all else fails i can make pancakes.

You've all made me feel so much better, I thought I was the only uninspired mum come teatime Thankfully Joe seems to like omelettes, so that's one quick option I sometimes often use.

Buckets Joe still doesn't have any teeth. At all.

oops we are off down to Devon next weekend for a holiday with the ILs. Can't wait!

TwilightSurfer · 02/08/2009 20:13

if it were just me we'd have soup, salad & bread every evening. i prefer big meals at lunch. and breakfast is always in two parts: one bit of toast & oj when i get up then cereal or bacon biscuit later. my girls are happy with that as well. dh however requires artery clogging meats with each meal. yuk!!!

i will attempt a backbone this week. i've shopped and found all i need to feed "us" for $100US. dh will eat lunch out of course. we (me & the girls) will stick to the plan and have fun making good stuff all week long. thank you friends.

buckets, i thought you'd find him sexy. his style and music is totally awesome in my book. we dance everytime his stuff comes on the tube or radio.

reese is sleeping in my arms. she's not done this in ages. i love her.

sarah HI!!

dizzy that bike is perfect. i want one for me. actually i do want one for me. we (the family) have been chatting about "santa" bringing us all bikes for christmas.

still no pressies for reese yet. i think i just want to get her this. She loves playing with dd1's popper version. just feel cheap getting her ONLY that. will have to keep thinking.

battle of supper has been won and they're now eating bagels - they came running through to the kitchen whilst I was preparing it with their trousers pulled down exposing their bare bottoms 'just to show me' I sometimes wonder what on earth I'm raising here

we've just been watching Countryfile Sazz, whats Man on Wire?

am online booking everything and anything today - I don't know whats gotten into me so far we're going to see Dylan Moran, Billy Connolly and Fleetwood Mac this year and now I've booked to take the girls and my friend to see Beauty and the Beast stageshow - my friend LOVES that kind of thing, as do the girls am hankering after flights to Euro disney/flights to Spain and a hotel for our NY trip in Nov - am going to have to cut off my fingers shortly

all of this being done on credit card btw - I haven't won the lottery and not told you!

pertelote welcome home, hope you're feeling ok about tomorrow

Good evening good evening!

Dizzy don't be daft, you and your girls are as lovely in person as you are here and we were really chuffed that you came over for our daft short'n'early meet. And you, Poppy, and the Poppettes of course! (I tried to think of a more original name for them but no, that is the original and best, isn't it?!)

We've had a good weekend, DD was very good on the train and we were pretty lucky with our travelling companions again - today we shared a table with a six year old boy and his dad (travelling all the way from Aberdeen to London poor things) so he and DD entertained each other beautifully. The wedding was very nice, DD charmed everyone again and thankfully the sun came out so she was able to spend the afternoon scooting round the massive garden which the reception was held in.

Now I am home I have a gloomy Sunday-evening feeling and can't quite believe maternity leave is over . It's been the best year of my life despite including several of the worst days... But I am trying to not to think of it as end-of-an-era. Chin up.

Now that I have caught up a few messages...

welcome back No1, we missed you...

to you Cyteen, you are very brave to be honest about how you are feeling and I agree that it sounds hardly surprising - hope you get better professional support of all kinds this week...

TS another vote for tipping DH's takeaway over his head next time he tries that trick! And BTW my groceries appear to average about £90 per week...

Sazzles, of your night away...

Buckets, hope you, Kurt and all the family have a great day tomorrow...

and everyone, loving the birthday cakes. My plan is this given that the Little Blue Fruit is still DD's constant demand favourite!

LoveBuckets · 02/08/2009 22:21

Woah £90 for a balance bike! We got a wooden unbranded one off Ebay for about £30. Totally unsuited to DS1's personality at the time (have blanked out the times we tried to use it!) but luckily not Ebayed in despair so Kurt will be able to use it.

TS Heheh if you were feeling v provocative you could tell your DH you can't afford more for Reece because of the food bill.

My boys have both made me so proud today. DS1 and I retold his favourite story at bedtime, with me leaving gaps and him putting in comedy endings, eg opposites or the word 'bottom'. He's so bloody quick, I will be in trouble when he's older and starts to use his incredible brain for evil instead of good. And Kurt just started grooving away in his highchair with me at lunchtime, so cute and goodnatured. I still get emotional when we make normal little connections like that; I know he's not on the spectrum but I guess I still worry because he's so placid and quiet so these little moments mean so much to me.

LoveBuckets · 02/08/2009 22:24

Doh, Reese!
