Popping on to say that I was sorry to read your news oops how very sad.

Am going to have to train it up to Gatwick tomorrow - goodness knows how I'll manage with buggy, carseat, baby, bag and rucksack at Clapham where there are no lifts - but I am sure I will find some helpful soul with strong arms to help.

have found a good removal company and mansteak has agreed to sort out loading his end so I dont have to hang around in France too long, so looking like I'll be back for good within a couple of weeks.

Cheesyjet fly to Bristol, which would be handy but I cannot find any mention of buggies on thier baggage info, so very as to whether I would get stung with extra charges or not. might just go with BA - that freebie sandwhich convinces me
everytime.

Hope you all having nice weekends.

oopsacoconut · 23/08/2009 06:52

Hi All

VG - thanks for looking, The cheapest flights go via Qatar which is flying 6 hours right then 11 hours down to Joburg then 2 hours down to Durban. We were looking at the most direct flights because of DD, 19 hours flying and however many waiting between flights is just no fair on her. We also don't have a week. It is unfortunately DH's busiest time so he can only spare 3 or at a push 4 days before needing to be back and then will have to work 20 hour days to get things done when he gets back.

Steaky - I would rather pay the extra for BA than fly Easyjet with a LO, we paid £7 for each bag each way and then some random buggy charge and a random carseat charge too

We went DD birthday shopping yesterday - she is having a sliver charm bracelt wit ha duck charm (she can choose a new charm every birthday and then once she is older she can wear it)a ELC wooden trike, a pop up paddling/ball pool, some books, a pack of ducks and a pretty pair of PJ's from John Lewis. DH bought her a xylophone yesterday because it was Saturday She is I'm afraid very spoilt!

Hi everyone

Miamla · 23/08/2009 09:40

morning oops, DD doesn't sound spoilt, she just sounds like a very lucky girl with loving parents. I love the idea of the charm bracelet

news from the miamla household is that DS completely recovered, I'm 75% there but still haven't managed to stomach any food yet since thursday and DP is feeling sick this morning. we're going to just have to bumble through today and hope as the day goes on, i'll be well enough to cope with DS and in the meantime, ITNG it is

sambo, how are things at yours? DS ok? how's dp doing?

steaky, i agree with oops, i'd pay the extra for BA

dizzydixies · 23/08/2009 09:55

oops mine both have charm bracelets too but not for 1st birthdays - am afraid in comparison I am a right stingey cow

have you decided to definately go oops? am sure P will be an absolute delight on the plane and charm everyone near to you

steaky hope you manage ok today - and agree with the others, if the difference isn't huge go with BA. I've flown with easyjet loads and they are marginally better than Ryanair however if there is another option I'd go with it

miamlaglad things are improving - it sounds like that awful but I had at the beginning of July so you have my sympathies - watching the tv to let you recover won't do him any harm at all

*VG am not a huge fan of Jimmy Carr at all - my taste is more along the Dylan Moran, Ed Byrne, Billy Connolly route - not sure what that says about me though

has anyone seen the sitcom 'Outnumbered'? DH and I have only just stumbled across it and frankly its so true to our house its scarey - have ordered the box set from amazon for DH as part of his birthday as he's mentioned he'd like it and is impossible to buy for - doubt I'll wait till then before he gets it though!

was glorious sunshine yesterday and today is chucking it down again the first 2 times I arrived at work there was an almighty downpour (which I took as an omen) and then when I knew I was going in to sit with one of my friends yesterday it was glorious sunshine - today I'm back with the horror and its raining

oh and I KNOW it all sounds horrendously petty but these people are so bad we now have to be told where to sit and who to take our breaks with - its frankly pathetic - nevermind, I added up last night how many shifts I have till the endo f the year and its only 37!!!!!

right Dylan up at stupid o'clock again so DH now gone back to bed and I'm taking the older two to gymnastics - at least there isn't any parental participation

oopsacoconut · 23/08/2009 11:42

Dizzy - No, not made a decision yet just waiting for things to be confirmed down south before we discuss it and make a decision. DD was a bat out off hell on the return flight from New York and that was only 6 hours so 23 may just be pushing our luck! Direct flights are only 11 hours then 3 at the airport then 2 hours so more do-able. I have to say I am leaning towards no if the flights are too expensive as it will pretty much eat savings and put a stop to anything else we might need for the next 6 or so months

cyteen · 23/08/2009 14:54

oops it's shit that practicalities have to intrude on such an essential thing as mourning, but I'm sure you know that if you can't get to the funeral you will be able to mark her life and passing in some other way, wherever you are. My brother's grave is in London so I I hardly ever have the chance to visit - I can't get there for anniversaries as I would like, and it does hurt - but I always mark the day by doing something that's significant to me. He is always with me, in my heart and guts and lungs and laughter, because I loved him so.

dizzy we love Outnumbered in this house On a Scottish tangent, did you ever watch Absolutely? Me and my bro loved that show so much and were always moaning about how it never got released on DVD. Typically enough, I saw a complete box set in HMV the other day and thought how pissed off he would be if he knew it had come out at last.

Having a lovely quiet weekend at home, despite early wake-ups and crap nights. Today I have driven us to the supermarket and back without hitting anyone or anything [proud] (not that I routinely hit people and things, you understand, but supermarket car parks are a bit of a bugbear of mine) and now boy is asleep while DP plays Grand Theft Auto and I keep an eye on the apple and date loaf in the oven.

LoveBuckets · 23/08/2009 18:59

Yeuch, we too have sick bug chez Buckets. Me, DD and DS1 all woke up at various times in the night to be sick. Just put Kurt down to bed and the effort to carry him was ridiculous, feel so heavy myself. Luckily it was today not tomorrow as DH back to work then. Had to cancel DS1's friend coming for sleepover tonight. Nits almost all gone though.

Had lovely afternoon yesterday with 3 little cousins at my folks', they all cried at the end and wanted a sleepover together. Will have to plan one next time my mum's on hols - not fair to take over her house with her in it I think.

Off to bed again now, night.

steaknife · 23/08/2009 20:28

Bonsoir! I am back in the land of croissant.

Train journey was l-o-n-g started at 8.45 got to Gatwick at 12.45. Then a mad rush around to get food, water, magazines with good freebies and then realise that we were boarding at the furthest gate possible. I think I might actually have walked to France.

Izzy fell asleep as soon as I set foot in the airport so got an hour or so snoozing and then slept in the car on the way up. Went off to sleep easily enough, yay.

Mansteak has buggered off for the night which I am a bit about - but it is his DBs 40th and I am his nearly ex so perhaps I have no right to be. He got me a rather random dinner, one of those mixed indian/chinese starter boxes from the supermarket. Obv hoping for his fine lamb stew was a bit optimistic.

Before going he said he would be round every lunchtime to spend time with Izzy. Not sure if he expects feeding as well - am tempted to leave him with a weeks worth of spring rolls and go out at lunchtimes.

Hope all dodgy tums are on the mend.
Cyteen and Buckets sounds like you had some smashing times this weekend.

cyteen if it makes you feel any better the Absolutely box set has been out forever as I have it on video - nearly worn through though as it is BRILLIANT!!!! am tempted to go for a change of Address to Stoneybridge and rename my DD1 to Callum Galhoolie now you've reminded me

oops I know its not an easy decision to make but am sure you'll get there in the end - I've now missed 2 funerals I would've liked to go to this year, my cousin who passed away and was cremated yesterday was only 44 and 4 out of his 6 kids were there and I couldn't go - its never easy is it and I was only 2hrs away

steaky glad you're home safe and Izzy none the worse for travelling

have survived the first shift back at work, it wasn't great but its over and I'm not back in again until Sat for 4 early shifts - am off to relax with DH

Steak glad you got back alright eventually.

Sazzles sounds like a brilliant weekend... you'd have to have been very debauched indeed to cancel out the restorative effect of two undisturbed nights!

No1 hope you and Marcus had a lovely day yesterday... your cake is amazing btw, hope it was as delicious as it was beautiful.

Oops still thinking of you and hoping that at least the uncertainty resolves very soon Oh and books, PJs and musical instruments are all essentials not luxuries so that leaves a totally reasonable number of presents (DD loves her xylophone, bet P does too.) The charm bracelet is a lovely idea.

Anti-sick vibes to the Buckets and Miamla households... Dizzy enjoy your days off...

Aaargh, DD squeaks. G'night all...

Morning Sazzle

Hey everyone else...

Belated happy birthday to Marcus...

So sorry for all the sicky bugs going around, hope everyone recovers very soon...

Quite a mad weekend here, dd1 has managed to convince me that she absolutely must have a 4th birthday party for her and her friends (birthday not til late sept) but now need to organise something before some of her friends live nursery for big school arghhh..

Also her forms came through for big school and i'm terrified!!!!

DD2 currently has two bottom molars getting ready to burst so having lots of tears, grumpyness and wake ups... think its going to be a couple of weeks til the poke thru...

Glad work went ok dizzy and like how you have counted how many more shifts til the end of the year ..

so glad you managed some good sleeps and fun on your hen do Sazzle.. lets hope some banked hours of sleep get you through the week..

ok dd2 destroying the hours and its not yet 7.. gonna be a long day!!!

hotterpotter · 24/08/2009 08:02

Morning all

Feeling a little zombified here too, DS slept until 7, good boy , but DD needed a wee at 5.45am and it was a bit dark so she woke me up to help her then although she went back to bed for a bit I couldn't get back to sleep. This on top of Saturday night's shenanigans means (woke up DS while turning him round in his cot on my way to bed. I never even go in his room at night, what possessed me to a) go in then b) pick him up I do not know (prob wine though ) but the result was I couldn't get him back to sleep properly for 90 minutes )I am a bit fluffy-brained this morning. Yesterday's slight sunburn fading nicely to a golden brown - a welcome side effect of pregnancy which seems to have become a more permanent change because I used to burn like a bugger.

Sarah have fun planning DD1's party

Sazzles your house is upside down

Steaky hope you can get it all sorted and then get home in one piece

Poorly people hope you are all feeling better very soon.

Loved loved loved Absolutely too , especially Morwenna Banks as the little girl, and Stoneybridge (no no no, not nasal enough). Is that what the cafe committee is like Dizzy? Have always resisted buying iton DVD in case it wasn't as good as I rememebered, may have to rethink that

Breakfast time. Want croissants. Having rice crispies

Morning all aaggg just typed a big un and just lost it. (thankgoodness I hear you say)

Firstly oops I am so very sorry to hear of the awful news. how cruel.

sarahnh Teething trouble hear too. I was up most of the night with ds who is cutting 2 teeth at the top. I was also up nearly all of the night with dd who is cutting 2 molars maybe 4.
So not much sleep hear either.
We have had a good run of sleep lately so I can't complain too much.

Both dcs have slight temp this morning. Can't remember if that comes with teething or if they are brewing yet another illness

So sorry to hear of all the ill families atm. How awful for you all. I remember it well after dds 2nd birthday when we and all my family had it [shudder]
hope you are all soon on the mend.

hotter sun burn tut tut
I am not at all of you going brown though honest....
(struggling to accept my inner milk bottle)

vg ds eats like a horse, but lately has just been picking. Refusing all his usual favourites. Hoping it is just a phase, or teeth???

sazzles the weekend sounded great, sadly it is the sleep that sounds so wonderful.
I need to get out more.lol

steak hope things are going ok for you, it must be mixed emotions for you atm. thinking of you.

buckets I also though how sweet of dd to cling to a picture of Kurt. Bless her. Hope she managed to enjoy the cinema.

dizzy love that you have counted the remaining shifts. Hope you enjoy the week before returning back. I hope it has settled down by then too.

Hi to anyone I forgot will catch up again later
both dcs not happy now and whinging, I have to go pick up my darling little brother and take him to the dentist. Well perhaps not so little as he is 18 tomorow. where did that time go.
He is going away with his girlfriend tomorow.
First holiday abroad without parents or friends parents. Bless him
[welling up emoticon]

oopsacoconut · 24/08/2009 09:33

VG DD is off her food too she will eat a bit, throw a bit, squish a bit then sign 'all gone/finished' then clap to say thank you and try and climb out. After last night I would say she has another tooth coming but she would also rather be down exploring! if I catcch it right she will eat slightly more but no more than 5/6 mouthfuls

Morning everyone else, back in a bit DD falling asleep on her feet!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 24/08/2009 09:36

Goodness me must preview. Here not hear etc...

oh and that was still long wasn't it?

I was meant to say thankyou so much for the birthday wishes we had a lovely day.
The cake was nice too even if I say so myself.
only had a slither though honest sazz

LoveBuckets · 24/08/2009 09:57

Stoneybridge!!! It's got a stoney bridge in it! I used to adore Vic Reeves' Big Night Out too around that time.

Forgot to say DH has decided he is happy to increase mortgage to get kitchen remodelled and a new car! (BTW Oops Does your mum still have her Toyota with the spinny seats?) So have been planning new kitchen and how to retain Bohemian vibe with Ikea units. Decided to keep my lovely wooden shelves (see? essence of Boho right there IMO) and have new base cupboards, which works out cheaper too. Will have to send my folks on holiday and move into theirs as there will be windows turned into doors, doors turned into windows, walls moving and floor levelling too (floor is at quite hilarious slope). Kitchen is 22' long btw so all that work isn't as OTT as it sounds.

Waiting for my mum to reply to come to Ikea for lunch and kitchen browse - we're not feeling sick anymore but I'm v tired still so don't want to attempt Ikea on my own.

Hi Steaky Wot Sazzles said.
