where are you going on holiday jammy?

DH and I have now had a row. But he deserved it. Think I might have PMT

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 02/09/2009 15:04

North Devon - here. With my ILs.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2009 16:21

not sure if I want my money back or not, as it;s a job I'd love to do, but according to some of the publishing bods on here, some of the cheaper courses out there are a waste of money as they aren't industry recognised. the blurb on the company website says they are though.

The bods on here seem to think it's more word of mouth and friends of friends that gets proof reading jobs. My reckoning is that I can approach technical publishers and get some engineeringy/technical type work. I only need about 15 hours paid work to pay for the course though, so surely not outwith the realms of possiblity?

MakkaPakkasWilly · 02/09/2009 16:58

Hi Daisy

I looked into proofreading a while ago... it's not worth it. Competition is very fierce and pay is very low unless you are very qualified or have a masters in English or something.
And as you've pointed out - much of it is word of mouth.

I don't mean to seem negative or deter you or anything but it was something I was really keen on doing and was disappointed myself to find out the harsh realities of it!

RIAlityBites · 02/09/2009 17:18

I was going to suggest having a background in engineering might help.

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2009 17:50

I feel a bit like that as well MPW...hopes dashed and so on.

However, thinking about it, I might just give it a go and see it as more exercising my brain cells doing the course rather than a means to a new and wonderful career; and if something comes out of it then all to the good.

I'm also going to be doing the NCT BFing counsellor course (hopefully) and the way things are going there may even be a paid job opportunity come out of that.

I am definately not going back to Engineering and need something else that pays and that I can work round family and that I enjoy, as I doubt nappies are going to keep me in the manner to which I've become accustomed.

its good you are exploring different avenues daisy i hope you find something at the end of it.

i have been rescuing my garden today, its suffered from me being the only one who bothers to water not being able to water for a few weeks.
still got tons of tomatoes and peppers tho.

had a jolly good sort out of charlies nappies and have a load of size 1 to list, to make some funds for me, i feel a new sling coming on

RIAlityBites · 02/09/2009 21:29

well done on the toms and peppers natty. I managed a nice bunch of asters for DM tonight (Dsis having been to GPs graves with her show-quality dahlias while we were away), I have some poor-ralation dahlias and some poppies, cornflowers and statice too. Not much use if you're hungry.

I got pretty dismal results for my 6 page TMA (again), but my increased effort was noted (is that enough to pass my ECA do you think?)

RIAlityBites · 02/09/2009 22:11

my holiday was like groundhog day crossed with some kind of endurance test. Fecking kids were awful (probably because it rained most of the time) but it was good to get away (even though if I'd had any clean underwear left I would have sent the kids home with DH and stayed on my own for several more weeks!)

I am trying to upload photos to FB, but am having trouble...

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 03/09/2009 06:40

Sounds like your holiday was stressful Ria - sorry about that. Enjoy the (relative) rest now they are back to school perhaps?

I'm in at work today as I'm down to do an Equality and Diversity course. Could be intersting, could be a waste of time. But at least it's time off another day or overtime!

TheNattyTheHippy · 03/09/2009 10:57

ooh jammy sounds fun

sorry ur holiday wasnt much fun ria

another 6 hour stretch here.. i feel like a new woman!

RIAlityBites · 03/09/2009 11:40

of six hours sleep. I was up in the night throwing up. After chinese takeaway this time. DH thinks I might be allergic to chillies. But I suppose a ban on chinese takeaway will be good for the diet

TheNattyTheHippy · 03/09/2009 13:21

oh ria sorry to hear that
and yes a ban on chinese will help.. however im sure u will replace it with another takeaway
thats what we do now i cant eat it due to headaches

my milk supply has gone right down, charlie is getting most annoyed, i think its the amount of stress ive been under with having BIL here. tom and jack have been fighting all week, im sick of shouting "stop hitting him"
is this what its like when they get older? if thats the case im going on holiday alone each year

MakkaPakkasWilly · 03/09/2009 13:39

drugged out of my fucking tree

Daisy, you need to snotty weep at them, it helps

TheNattyTheHippy · 03/09/2009 13:57

michael has tried diclofenac, does make you a bit out of it (tho i love your turn of phrase.. pmsl)

where is everyone today eh? charlie is sleeping..

HIS COT

MakkaPakkasWilly · 03/09/2009 14:12

Natty DS2 is a bit of a mumhugger as well. He hates sleeping in his cot. Tough shit though really!

RIAlityBites · 03/09/2009 14:13

DH is on that too. He's been taking it so long it doesn't seem to do anything TBH.

yes Natty, that is my life!!!

TheNattyTheHippy · 03/09/2009 14:25

no itdosent work for michael anymore he is on morphine AND trammadol atm.
charlie back in my arms that lasted didnt it!

LittleMissNorty · 03/09/2009 15:01

Hello everyone

Diclofenac is good stuff! Were you not given it after your section MPW (they shoved some up my bum (!!) on the operating table and then tablets afterwards. I also use it when my back is bad - stronger version of neurofen basically - works in the same way. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Just pinched a bit of DSs leg in the car seat and given him a blood blister

Hope you haven't got food poisioning as well Ria!

Friend died last night but also a relief in some ways. Been going on a long time.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 03/09/2009 15:32

Sorry about your friend Norty

After my CS they gave me nurofen and paracetamol and codeine and something up the bum but don't know what, I didn't ask tbh just put it up there!

My friend had a CS in a bad hospital - they didn't give her anything to eat, drink, clean her up for 15 hours and forgot to take her catheter out for over 24 hours

wtf

I was horrified... but sadly not suprised, I know of this hospital

RIAlityBites · 03/09/2009 15:47

sorry about your friend norty

not food poisoning (thankfully) just another one-off. I think there must have been something in Dsis' jalfrezi and something in last nights tea that was the same. I'll have a break (fits in with my pre-wedding 2 week panic diet) then re-introduce stuff slowly (just have 1 chinese meal instead of sharing 2 main courses with DH)

I have had it for my back too, and tramadol, but the only thing that worked for me were the morphine patches. Thankfully it's mostly OK ATM

TheNattyTheHippy · 03/09/2009 16:02

mpw same happend to me after my emergancy section with thomas. no pain reflief and didnt clean me up. michael had to get me in the shower the next day as no one was avalible to help me.
sad thing is i wasnt afraid of hospitals prior to that.

sorry about your friend norty, know what you mean about it being kind of a relief tho xx

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2009 18:36

oh, so sorry to hear about your friend Norty . I hope her family are doing OK, although having gone through my mum's illness, the expectation that they will die doesn't mnake it any easier when it actually happens.

lol MPW you must be out of it....you're answering questions asked on facebook on MN!! could get complicated

Sorry to hear you are feeling shite (no pun intended ) and I hope you feel better soon.

Oh bum, have signed up to YET ANOTHER forum.....when will I have the time to look after my children?

OP posts:
JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 03/09/2009 21:39

Sorry about your friend Norty

Well I am equal and diverse now! Was quite and interesting day actually, though lunch was rubbish. Adn the last load of pre-holiday washing is in the machine, so drying and packing to do tomorrow. We also have the HV coming tomorrow and it's Rhyme Time and have just texted a friend, so should be a busy day.

Hope you feel better soon Ria, and Fury too. Not sure I like the sound of suppository drugs, myself.

RIAlityBites · 04/09/2009 08:34

still feeling rough, but headache and backache today. My mum told me I looked dreadful (cheers for that mother) and I went off to bed with the DCs at 8.30, but it looks like it was a quiet night.

Am trying to muster the energy to go into town to buy embroidery stuff to make a cushion for friends wedding gift from DS2., Thing is, I promised DS1 his friend could come for lunch...
