Hi everyone!

Puzzle - 17th is good for me if the afternoon - can't do the morning. Would be great to meet you!

Auld - congratulations on your move - so glad to hear it is done - WELL DONE on getting in.

Good luck with your move Nutty, if you get a chance to read this.

Springy, hope you are ok - any updates?

Schulte - I can't help about the sleep, sorry. My sister takes a tough line on not letting her babies reclaim feeds they had previously dropped and she does this by sending in her husband with water and if necessary going down the garden where she can't hear the crying. I am not sure of the details or if this would work for you. I have been feeding V more at night than usual but she has a cold and if she needs to feed to fight it off I am not going to try to fob her off with water. I might change my mind if she doesn't go back to normal when the cold has gone.

AuldAlliance · 12/08/2009 09:27

Thanks, WFH. Useful links!
You can sleep in the guest room, bien sûr! If you spurn the bed and sleep in the bath, who am I to stop you?

I didn't know you weren't meant to warm EBM on the cooker or in the microwave.

Electrician came this morning. In the placee downstairs there's an electric meter & one general trip switch. It seems we maybe have no fuse box .
Would explain why power keeps cutting out.

AuldAlliance · 12/08/2009 09:28

Hi Ginger!

dawntigga · 12/08/2009 09:52

Waves to all. We slept to 0620 this morning, am REALLY not getting my hopes up but long may this continue. It's like at 2050 at night he has an off switch. However he tries to wake himself up at 0300 and 0500 so I wake up.

Quick post as I have to leave the house shortly.

Ginger/BB/Lulu/Schulte - I have posted about our meet up on the FB group.
Looks like we are all in except for BB who I am waiting to hear back from.

All are welcome if any of the rest of you are nearby.

Hi Juw - do you mind if I pick your brains?

Is it ok to take any pain killers other than paracetemol when breastfeeding - ibuprofen and aspirin are out, no? Anything else I can alternate with paracetemol? My throat and head are throbbing.

What about Contac or sudafed and breastfeeding? Or any alternatives to them that might be ok?

Hope you don't mind my asking - thanks

mathshoneybunny27 · 12/08/2009 16:25

RE: expressing Auld, little A takes 5-7 oz per feed typically. I express about 10pm and give it as top-up next evening, so 24hours is fine and I microwave it

I sterilise most things in a microwave steriliser at the end of the day, but only once a day, otherwise a good rinse under hot tap/dishwasher.

Hope everyone's feeling good today

Juwesm · 12/08/2009 16:58

Ginger - Ibuprofen is fine! I've been knocking them back like sweets every time I get a blocked duct.

Nice thingy from BfN here which covers painkillers and also decongestants (avoid).

Sorry you are feeling rough

I@ve only gone and lost that bloody reciept again. Took it into carpetright and they photocopied it as their 'new' boss would need to see it and hes away and then somewhere between then and an hpur ago I've lot it which includes the carpark, the hospital and tescos plus walking to pick up the kids.
Bollocks. I'm so upset as we can't afford to lose this money they owe us. Hopefully their boss won't realise though and hes got the copy (we have a copy too) and we can sort out a credit over the phone without him realising.

Schulte · 12/08/2009 20:17

Good evening. Bronze sorry to hear about the carpet and the lost receipt - I will keep all my fingers crossed that you get the money back.

Have just offered some of my maternity stuff and newborn stuff on Freecycle and can't believe how many people have replied! And I can't wait to get rid of the things

BabyBolat · 12/08/2009 21:21

Hello all

Just popping in to mark spot and very quick post for Auld!

Auld K takes 5-7 ounces a feed during the day and just over 8 before bed although he only has one ebf a day so it depends on time really and one day a week when he is with mum. I express about 5-6 oz if full so I try and express 2 a day so he can have one and we freeze one (although had a freezer nightmare too and lost a whole heap of stock!!)

We tried formula with him for the first time yesterday as I couldn't express anything (cue me having mass panic that milk was drying up!) and needed to go out sans baby but he hated it and we have had very pooey nappies today so that has worried me a bit as I was hoping to mix feed a bit after 6 months (which OMG is only 6 weeks away!!!) to take the pressure off of me.

Yay for good news poo for bad news (sorry am just popping in before K's bath so have to run!!) Hope everyone is OK - speak soon

Puzzle just texting you back lovely xx

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 12/08/2009 21:34

So all you London based ladies, here's some interesting news - DP has got a big project to do in London in September and we're thinking of getting a central London apartment for a week or two for me and the boys to be up there with him.

So I could come to a London meet up! Yay!

bronze I'm sure you'll be ok with the copies - crossing my fingers the receipt will turn up somewhere though anyway.

Orbit has got attached to a soft stuffed monkey lately, and cuddles it fiercely at nap and bed times. Now Ds1 did this with a Mothercare bunny, which is still his comfort toy and has been soooooooooo useful in comforting and settling to nursery etc, and by the time I realised it was vital to his well being, Mothercare had sold them all off in their summer sale, and I had to pay ridiculous sums on eBay for one.

So this time, I decided not to make that mistake, so went to Mothercare to buy a spare monkey. Tragedy! No Monkey to be had, all sold out! They claimed to be getting stock in 8 weeks, but I've heard that line from them before.

So I rang round local stores and pleaded, and to cut a long story short I am now the proud owner of the Last Monkey in Bristol - possibly even in the UK.

I figure if Orbit turns out not to want Monkey as his comfort toy, I'll put spare Monkey on eBay and get a bit of cash back on him. And if he does, having a spare will be invaluable.

bronze · 13/08/2009 09:41

I found it! How flukey is that. Just took the kids to holiday club and there is was in the ditch beside the path. I think today is supposed to be a better day
(and dh is away so I can't nearly split with him ) So the boring saga of the receipt has ended (phew I hear you say)

wfh wise move on the monkey. We have two of everything because of that. We don't let them get too attached to one off soft toys
We have bunny and stunt bunny (his stand in)
and Mouse and Mouse Too and we swap them over regularly so they wear out the same.

BB- K seems so grown up on your piccies. The one with him and the lads made me laugh

Schulte · 13/08/2009 09:54

Do you think dealing in soft toys on Ebay might be a way to get rich? I mean, all those desperate parents out there...?

Schulte · 13/08/2009 09:56

BB only 6 weeks till Kara is 6 months old? How did that happen? Once he's having solids, there'll be less pressure on you anyway so I wouldn't worry if formula doesn't seem to go down too well. But I also think he'll be fine with it, maybe try a different brand. I know two babies who were awfully sick on Aptamil but absolutely fine on SMA.

Schulte · 13/08/2009 10:07

Oh by the way - H has now moved to DD1's room and my god, did I miss her last night! But both girls seem perfectly happy and while it hasn't actually improved how soon she wakes up for a night feed, it's nice to know that she won't wake up every time DH starts snoring

gingersarah · 13/08/2009 10:21

Thank you Juw for your advice - very much appreciated.

Bronze, well done on the receipt! what a brilliant fluke. Is the "nearly break up" thing rhetorical or real? good luck

Schulte, good news on H in the other room - I think we will have to do that with V tonight. she is sleeping so lightly and I have been waking her with sneezing and coughing and she has horribly reverted in terms of sleep.
Last night I ended up on the living room floor at 4.30 am after spending the whole night up to then running on tip toes to the bath room to sneeze, or feeding V when she woke up and demanded it.

Hoping for a better night tonight. I feel like a complete dish rag today. I hate having colds without all my hardcore speedy decongestants, what a wuss.

Schulte · 13/08/2009 10:33

Ginger, sorry you're not well. I never take anything for colds, I swear by hot water with lemon juice and honey though. And hot baths.

PuzzleRocks · 13/08/2009 10:48

Bronze - Thanks goodness you found the receipt. What a relief.

BB - I haven't had a text? Hopefully you haven't sent it yet, or there is something wrong with my phone.

WFH - Fab. I look forward to meeting you and the legendary Orbit.

Schulte - I wish it was. I have about 200 beanie babies stashed in the attic.

GS - Wishing you a speedy recovery. You are certainly not a wuss.

I shall attempt to take the girls swimming this weekend at my mothers gym. My Mum and DH will be there so I might snatch five minutes for a jacuzzi. Bliss.

BabyBolat · 13/08/2009 10:58

Sorry 7 weeks haven't got my maths head on!!

Bronze - I know = he doesn't look like a baby at all anymore! he looks (and acts) like a toddler - he just doesn't realise he can't do all those things himself yet!

He is very funny with his uncles! they spoil him rotten!

Ginger sorry you're feeling bad - I second honey and lemon (I hate honey so cant comment on that one!) Also as much as you don't want to, hot shower dresses and get outside in the fresh air - works a treat! (there is nothing that can stop that horrid morning and night time low though!!)

gingersarah · 13/08/2009 11:43

Thanks for all the get well wishes - I will give the honey and lemon a go - or maybe I will try lime as I have one of those. Feeling a lot better already after two small pots of tea - pseudo-pseudephedrine in effect I guess. I am considering this the last day and am determined to be well tomorrow.

BB - good luck with expressing, probably just a blip or something to do with the weather or something.

I am finding it hard to express enough for a feed for V, am having to try to build it up but then you are always washing and sterilizing the pump and it seems like too much of an effort sometimes.

BabyBolat · 13/08/2009 12:21

if i'm freezing the milk I don't bother steralising (bad mummy), I just whack the bits under hot water express then immediately tip in to my freezer bags! otherwise I agree far too much hassle!

Grrr I am sat in waiting for my order to come in - got Ka jumparoo in the vain hope something will keep him occupied for more than 5 minutes at a time!

AuldAlliance · 13/08/2009 13:03

Hi everyone,
Well, the big event of the day is that our street, a wide boulevard with a huge central area with benches, fountain & flower beds where DS1 loves scootering of an evening, is being transformed into a giant boules arena for a championship. The street has been shut, and sand poured onto it (by an ancient tractor, it looked as if a random old farmer had been paid to break off from harvesting melons for the day) and then flattened. The competition will take place on the 15th, 16th and 17th, tomorrow I fear they are going to set up a whole load of tiered seats for the spectators and then we will spend the weekend glued to our windows, holding our breath at the excitement of it all. There are actually 2 sports stadia (that's just for you, MathsMummy) and a boulodrome in town, but obviously it's better to shut a whole street and pour sand everywhere. .

I think Alex slept through last night from 9:30-6.00, but I am so tired that when i awake I can never remember what happened the night before !

DH is p*ing off to Réunion for a court case at the end of Aug. I am sick with envy as I left so many great friends behind there. Looked at tickets for me, DS1 and A, but have had to face reason. 1500euros is crazy money for a short visit squeezed in before school and childminder start. And the 13hr plane trip is off putting.
Am now planning a long, long holiday there next summer.

It is too hot and sticky here. 32° in our bedroom. Everyone swears that storms arrive on Aug 15th, am hoping it's true.

Ginger, hope you feel better soon.

BB, I note your whispered tip. Hope the order arrives soon (p.s. what's a jumparoo?)

JustOffToGoogleJumparooAuld

BabyBolat · 13/08/2009 15:37

A jumparoo is officially one of the biggest most annoying things I have ever seen BUT k spent 35 minutes in it without a fuss so I will be putting up with it!!
