Lamaze Spin and Explore Garden Gym just arrived. Putting H on it for the first time was the funniest thing I've seen He certainly has no problems lifting his head. I think we're onto a winner with this!

Just put Evie down the baby slide I found in the shed! She looked so funny, bits of fluffy hair all sticking up due to the static!

Just back from weigh-in. H will be off the growth chart soon if this feeding frenzy continues. We're heading towards the 98th centile now. The HV was awfully pleased but I am not! I am a friggin' dairy cow and I make double cream day and night! FGS!

Oh crappity crap

when we got our new carpet in our hall about two years ago we paid for underlay only to discover we wouldn't need it so the guy said he would get the shop (carpetright) to put a credit on our account. Anyway at the time I phone and check they have and I keep the receipt. Two years later we want other new carpet contact them to find out their system has changed so they have no record of it. grr ( I think thats fucking cheeky) so I speak to the manager who says if yo come in I'll have a look at yur receipt and sort it. I phone up check hes in that day and go in to find out hes gone out. Woman at counter says she'll take a copy so I can phone and speak to manager and he can have it in front of him. Phone next day and they can't find the copy.

Roll on having Isaac

So now I want to get this sorted (it was about £120s worth and we need it and I can't find the bloody receipt can I. We really can't afford them straight out but need to get these carpets to sell as the carpetes in thes two rooms we need done don't reach the walls and the grippers on display

I only bloody found it. After a fortnight of looking everywhere. And I found where I put our passports and Izys birth certificate while doing it. Only our marriage certificate to go but happily I have over 7 years of marriage to prove that one

Hello everyone,
Afraid I have not had enough time to do a proper catch up, but get the general impression everyone is hanging in there OK, despite the sleep deptrivation and all the rest of it. Please don't take offence if I miss you out, am doing my best!

Nutty, I missed your initial post about your DH, I'm really sorry, sending you virtual support and Fanjo warrior sisterly vibes from afar.

Ginger, I'm glad V is more settled. You sound much happier.

Bronze, good luck with everything. Moving is so stressful when you have a baby and older kids to cope with too. Glad you found the papers.

B52s, excellent news re the cardio appt.

Boff, sorry about your medical woes. No advice to give, I'm afraid. Try and enjoy your holiday nonetheless. I've not forgotten about the need for chocolate olives to keep you going in times of stress and hardship.

BB, glad your holiday went well. K sounds like a very athletic baby. Fun times ahead one he starts crawling!!

Schulte, I feel like a dairy cow, too. Especially now I've unearthed my pump and started expressing. Good news H is so bonny, though!

Maths, nice too see you around.

I miss you, Springy. Hope you are OK in spite of everything.

Right, now for a me, me, me post!

We are getting settled in to our new house and it is brilliant. Huge, very light, with high ceilings, a fantastic old couple next door, a big garden (albeit devoid of any plant life at all, as the old lady who lived here hated gardening), where I am planning a vegetable patch and have already planted a load of irises, and a barbecue. Furniture for my study to be delivered today and I will have a whole new, productive working environment instead of trying to do research sitting at my kitchen table!

Slight negatives:
(1) Out of the long-awaited 3 baths, one is utterly unusable due to limescale desposits the like of which I had never seen before; one has a huge paint splodge all along the bottom where a painter dumped his paint and then forgot to rinse it away. It's clean, but not v appealing. The only usable one is tucked up at the very top of the house in the guest room (get me, eh, I have a guest room!), and not practical for bathing kids.
(2) our electricity is wonky (v French, I might add: much though I love the country they are not great at electrics) and keeps cutting out, often at night. This would not be a major problem if the fuse box was accessible. But it is downstairs in what used to be the garage but has now been converted into a separate premises, used by a lady who does hearing tests and sells hearing aids (sure there's a name for this job in English, but have baby brain). It's open from 9:30am-12 and 2pm-6pm. Outwith those hours I have no access to my fuse box or meter. Have already binned one freezer load of ruined food, and am worried about the EBM stock I was intending to lay in. I won't bore you with the details of how shite EDF, the electricity board, have been. The problem may not be solved until October!!!

All in all, though, life is far, far nicer here than where we lived before.

Back to baby matters: A starts at his childminders at the end of this month, and I am starting to feel apprehensive and sad about it. Anyone else going back to work in Sept?

I began expressing milk today, despite the possibility of another power failure forcing me to ditch any frozen EBM. I have a few queries, as I only gave DS1 bottles after he was about 7 or 8 mths old.

-how much (roughly) per feed? I've just expressed 6fl oz. Is that about one feed? Half a feed? This obv will vary from baby to baby, but a rough idea?

-can I keep a bottle in the fridge for about 24 hrs, top it up as I express and then freeze it?

-what about sterilising? I didn't do it for DS1, as he was fairly old. I boiled up my pump and bottles today, and they are covered in chalky deposits because the water here is so hard. Do I need to sterilise? What method is best?

God, what a marathon post.

Enjoy your day!

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 12/08/2009 08:59

Morning Auld! House sounds fantastic barring the teething problems - am sure you'll get them sorted soon though and lots of space sounds like a wonderful thing

Which bathtub am I sleeping in, the limescale one or the painty one?

In answer to ebm questions:

  • I would say if you can express 6 oz easily that's probably about a feed's worth. Think BB mentioned K having 8-9oz in a bottle, but I think that's at the big end of a feed, for this age, iyswim. I freeze mine in 4-6oz bags, can always use two if necessary.
  • yes, you can keep a bottle in the fridge for a day and top up. As long as you keep it based on the age of the oldest milk in there, then just follow normal storage guidelines. KellyMom is useful on this
  • sterilisation - again I'd consult KellyMom - my sister just used the dishwasher on hot for all hers, I think for storing milk it's probably more important to keep things clean than for things like bottles, as you don't want bacteria to build up in the fridge. But on the whole I wouldn't stress too much.

this is useful info too

More later, off to pump too!
