Right so I caught up yesterday, but forgot to post And I'm too tired and lazy to do it again. I do remember I wanted to say hello and welcome back BB and to tell Gui not to fret and guilt trip abt the feeds (but everyone has beat me to both of those so...)

I cannot believe how active your babies are! Really Meg is not much of a mover and shaker...well not when it comes to crawling. SHe does love standing and she loves when we play row row row your boat where she sits in my lap facing me and we rock back and forth like we're rowing (works mommy's abs) and ride'um cowgirl where I bounce her up and down on my knee(works mommy's thighs) but that being said I'm thinking she takes after her mommy and she's more an intellectual . She contemplates the books I'm reading and makes long winded comments about the characters and her theories on what's going to happen in the plot. And she has taken to trying to type on the key board. (Mommy obviously spends a lot of time using it when she's around .) I', wondering if I spend too much time holding her or having her in her swing...Doesn't really give her time to practice her rolling over and crawling techniques...

Bicnod · 28/08/2009 11:11

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm... I like the chocolate fines idea

I've posted on a another thread here for advice on weaning if anyone is able to help (thanks MrsG for your response already) - bit worried I'm going to get flamed for weaning at 4 months rather than have my questions answered...

mrsgboring · 28/08/2009 11:23

Bebemoo I'm with you there. E neither crawls nor rolls over because he's rarely put down (if he is he's mugged by DS1 within seconds). He doesn't even sleep lying down during the day. DS1 was the same mind and no harm came to him (though I constantly fret about him being too physically lazy)

Auld what an adorable picture of Alex.

At the risk of incurring a guilt fine [nom nom] feel like I'm neglecting both children at the moment, the house is a tip and the cooking / food management scrappy. You'd think since I got up at four am this morning I'd have had a nice long morning to get everything turned round and sorted out and possibly even a leisurely shower and dried hair. Where did the time go?

Am panicking in fact. DS1 returns to nursery and starts a new one in addition to that, then E has his operation the following week (all being well). In between DH wants us to spend a weekend on holiday with his parents, which I can't decide whether it will be relaxing and diverting or yet another stress. Oh and he plans to move the furniture round this BH weekend, which is in theory a good idea, but I'm wondering when I'll ever get to sleep or finish the laundry or see the floor again. Or pack for the hospital or just feed us all tonight. All these things to do and I'm on here waffling and boring on and wasting time. Tell me to shut up and get on with it.

AuldAlliance · 28/08/2009 12:28

Have some chocolate instead MrsG! Bit of a theme going here.
Seriously, though, I have decided life is too short to fret too much about cleaning, etc., especially while our babies are not actually crawling around getting filthy. Enjoy some time with E before his operation, do what you want re your ILs, and have a rest (4am is way too early!).

I miss my baby so much, it's like a big empty space inside me. I was meant to get him at 1pm, which was 4 hrs after I left him (already seemed v long to me for day 2), but the CM called to say he was sleeping so she'll ring back when he awakes. Am telling myself it's a good sign if she got him off to sleep (with a bit of head stroking and singing, she said), but I feel really blue about leaving him with her. It will be easier when I am actually back at work, I think, as I will feel less lost without him.

BUT I spent a nice morning with DS1, we went to the market, had a drink in a café, came home and then went for lunch in a Chinese restaurant. He seems happier (should think so too!!).

AuldAlliance · 28/08/2009 12:32

Bicnod, bit of a consensus on your weaning thread, isn't there, albeit a very low key and non-flaming one? I'd not realised how strictly everyone on MN adheres to the 6mth diktat recommendation.
Do what you feel is right. All of us were weaned earlier than 6mths, I'll bet, and we're coping OK aren't we?

BoffinMum · 28/08/2009 12:33

As a second nanny has now let me down, I have officially scoffed all the group's chocolate.

BoffinMum · 28/08/2009 12:35

I have not joined the consensus, I will have you know. I think babies need food when the start to look hungry fgs.

BM is practically skimmed milk, you know, not gold top. Good stuff and all that, but common sense needs to prevail.

AuldAlliance · 28/08/2009 12:36

Shit, Boff, you're really, truly not having much luck. Will try and post the olives tomorrow!

brettgirl2 · 28/08/2009 13:28

Gui, you mustn't feel guilty because you did what you thought was best for your baby. You would have felt just as guilty if you'd put him onto formula at 2 weeks like I did with Hannah because the MWs scared me to death. It's really good news that the paed thought there was nothing wrong with him. FWIW I don't feel guilty/depressed any more so I don't need to eat all the chocolate. It does make me dread having a second though, because I don't want the same thing to happen again.

8 weeks is the earliest I have ever heard of anyone being weaned. 'I think babies need food when the start to look hungry fgs'

Swaliswan · 28/08/2009 14:02

I was 6 weeks when I was weaned!

Swaliswan · 28/08/2009 14:14

I would add that I'm waiting to see the colorectal surgeon because I have so many problems though so I try and hold off of solids as long as I can with my babies. I managed 23 weeks with DD1 until she clearly needed filling up with something that would slow her gut down a bit. I know that BM has a high calorific content but they absorb it so quickly that they are constantly hungry. I have to say that weaning DD1 dramatically improved her sleep and made her appetite more managable so I don't adhere to the idea that weaning causes problems by giving less calorific food. DD has no problems with food even though she was weaned partly with spoon-fed puree and partly with finger foods. I found that it gave me the best of both worlds. She also had quite poor fine motor skills so I don't think that she would have managed to get enough food in with BLW.

It's such an emotive subject, isn't it? I feel bad for my mum who knows that the gastroenterologist believed that weaning me so early at least contributed to my problems. I don't know how anyone manages to wean a baby before they lose their tongue thrust reflex. It's bad enough trying to get calpol to go down. I have visions of weaning a young baby involving force-feeding of some sort!

Guimauve · 28/08/2009 14:18

Right, so, feeling a little better today. Thank you all so much for kind words and support. Though they caused more tears at the time (), they make me feel better about everything now.

Feier - I think you may be right about the bottles being difficult at first. He has taken ebm from a bottle very happily before, though not for a while. But when I offered him a bottle yesterday after a feed, he refused it point-blank. Would hardly open his mouth, not interested in sucking at all, and let the milk that dripped in drool right back out again. Not sure if this is because he was actually full after the breast milk, because he has gone off the bottle, because he doesn't like the strange new taste, or because it's me giving it. We need to try again but with DH offering the bottle.

WFH - thanks for the {} - MN no-hugs be buggered! I hope you're right about him not actually wanting anymore milk. That is still what I expect to happen. He does demand food round the clock, pretty much. I think I have plenty of milk, but of course there is no way to prove this. Other than trying other things out, of course.

Puzzle - I am missing the same thing. If he is healthy, what is the problem? It does feel like I am being encouraged to fatten him up purely for the sake of the numbers. Lets repeat our NHS mantra "Numbers first, patient second".

Auld -

NEW THREAD HERE!!!

Feierabend · 02/09/2009 11:07

Ginger, Gui, try holding your babies in the rugby hold while you express on the other side. No kicking the pump, no naughty hands getting in the way.

Ginger, older babies still need a pint of milk a day but I seem to remember yoghurt and cheese and the cow's milk on their weetabix can replace some of the breast milk so you might get away with not using formula, as long as you still feed in the morning and at night.

Auld I want to be below 54kg too! It's what I weighed when I was 21.

Boff, weekend away where? LOL at your son.

WFH sorry Orbit is suffering so much with his tooth. Hope it comes through soon.

Tigga good luck with the injections.
