Sorry, Just running in with a joke! Will post properly later. Just thought it might cheer all the mummys up!

Baby's First Doctor Visit

This made me laugh out loud..

I hope it will give you a smile!

A woman and a baby were in the doctor's examining room,

Waiting for the doctor to come in for the baby's first exam.

The doctor arrived, and examined the baby, checked his weight, and being a little concerned, asked if the baby was breast-fed or bottle-fed.

'Breast-fed,' she replied.

'Well, strip down to your waist,' the doctor ordered.

She did. He pinched her nipples, pressed, kneaded, and rubbed both breasts for a while in a very Professional and detailed examination.

Motioning to her to get dressed, the doctor said, 'No wonder this baby is underweight.

'You don't have any milk.'

I know,' she said, 'I'm his Grandma, but I'm glad I came.'

Re DD / DS yes I think its for anonymity but most of us are way past that!!

KAz - lol but eew all the same!!! Meant to ask - where did you get that ring/donut thing that the twins are playing in on your photos?

Happy birthday surprise

Today mum has taken K off visiting so I am currently sat inside thinking I should do the housework or something but instead I am drinking coffee and eating biscuits! it's too cold and horrible outside to so anything else

hmmm

Juwesm · 05/08/2009 12:13

HV visit fine thanks Puzzle. Bit of a waste of time really. Gave me some more leaflets on 'what's on' locally, plus DoH weaning leaflet, plus did the depression scale thing again, on which I believe I scored a 2. No further visits until he is 1 now!

Have just had an e-mail from HiPP organics saying 'Your baby is nearly 17 weeks old, time to start getting ready for weaning'. Now, there was a disclaimer right at the bottom about DoH recommends 6 months etc, but it's a bit bloody cheeky, is it not, sending stuff like that out? And a lot of the jars of baby food still say 4-6 months.

LuLuBai · 05/08/2009 12:51

Hello All

Found you! 2 threads later. Have missed so much!

Seeing Puzzle & Co yesterday motivated me to get myself online and see how everyone is. Sorry I've been away for so long. Seems people in my family are like buses. After spending all winter on my tod pretty mucch 24/7 I now have DH at home all the time and also my mother was visiting for 3 weeks.

Wow - we still seem to be recruiting new members. Hello everyone I haven't met.

Ugh Kaz - granny boobies!?!

Ju - on a v. geeky weaning note I was thinking of starting to make batches of goo for the freezer in advance as I found that weaning increased the cleaning workload considerably last time so I figure a bit of pureeing in advance might lighten the workload.

Schulte - date for a picnic? Today / Tomorrow / Next day? I'm around. Have DH and FIL doing DIY in the house at the moment. Tools, testosterone and toddlers not such a good combo so need to get out. DD is up a ladder brandishing a powerdrill at the moment. It's only a matter of time before they decide to hand one to Sebastian.

Was just thinking that if the weathermen are right about tomorrow might be a day for the pool.

Going to try and have a proper catch up to see what I've missed.

xxx

Schulte · 05/08/2009 13:45

BB - cold? It's tropical here!

Tomorrow's good for me, pool or park, anyone else up for it?

I have been thinking about starting to make and freeze purees too - I think it's fun actually

BabyBolat · 05/08/2009 14:29

It's freezing, raining and horrid here - what sort of purees are you talking about - do you have particular recipes???

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 05/08/2009 14:41

Try BLW, no pureeing required!

bronze · 05/08/2009 15:22

hello people

my parent shave now left for another year

had a lovely time though. Managed to get out for about 8 miles with the dog yesterday. something I havent done for quite a while.

WIll try and catch up soon

dawntigga · 05/08/2009 15:52

Goodness I'm glad about BLW I am FAR to lazy to puree!

Sam was a brave little soldier today, had his 12 week injections - yes he is 15 weeks! - and recovered well.

Bleuravin · 05/08/2009 16:21

Just stopping in to say 'hi' as I'm trying to clean and pack for our trip.

Also,
Getting blood tests done when we return from holidays... checking my mineral levels (calcium, iron, something else), glucose levels (diabetes), thyroid function and one other thing too which I cannot remember now... Doctor felt that thyroid was a good bet, but figured she'd run the blood through the guantlet of other things to rule them out right away. In the mean time I've been told to take it easy, eat well, take my vitamins more regularly and drink lots of fluids (but not juice because of the sugars in it).

Glanced and saw purees were mentioned...DH wants to go straight to giving mushed foods rather than purees..anyone know of any reason why this might not be wise? -actually maybe don't answer that- I'll ask again later because I probably won't be on again for ages...though I guess I can try to find it again later or maybe I can make a thread, but I fear it'll go dead while I'm gone and I'll lose it anyhow...
Blah distracting myself because I'm in a rush and need to be doing other things.

Hugs to everyone!

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 05/08/2009 16:49

Bleu if you do get time to look, search for baby led weaning or BLW - as long as you start after six months, no reason why you can't go straight to finger foods

Have a lovely holiday!

Juwesm · 05/08/2009 17:49

WFH, I'm all for BLW. Is the book any good? I was thinking of treating myself to it.

Went for lunch with NCT group today (bloody hot but sat outside, chicken and mushroom risotto, lovely!!) and mentioned BLW, but the others either hadn't heard of it, or weren't keen.

16 week jabs today. H seems fine, but has now conked out!

kazkiss · 05/08/2009 17:57

Hiya, I think i need to look into BLW, as i only have 4 weeks left to weaning d-day! lol as babies are 5 months old today !!! can you believe it!

Babybolat: The ring thing is called a galt ring. I got it from ebay. it also comes with an arch thing that goes over the top which is an optional extra (but i would bother getting the arch as it it rubbish and keeps coming apart (it is a bit like tent poles). The ring is ok but the babies are not 100% keen they have to be in the mood. On the other hand i have just brought a jumperoo (very considered purchase.... as quite expensive in my opnion) but it is an absolute hit!

Hope this helps! Hi to everyone!

Schulte · 05/08/2009 18:31

I am a puree fan So satisfying when the blender turns a bowl of random vegetables into orange mush and it's interesting the colours you can create. [puree geek emoticon]

LuLuBai · 05/08/2009 20:30

oh yes - the orange mush.

Carrot, squash, sweet potato ad nauseum. I became a world class expert on arange stain removal. Top tip: spray stains with Milton sterilising spray before washing and then hang outdoors in daylight (even rain) for at least one day after washing.

May try BLW a bit. S has already eaten a raisin thanks to big sis

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 05/08/2009 20:40

I don't know if the book's any good, DS1 was BLW'd before the book was published

I used Aitch's blog for ideas, and just made it up as we went along. It was great fun - but very messy!

We were kind of forced into it, to be honest, by DS1 completely refusing to eat puree. You'd get near him with a spoon and he'd purse his lips up tight and wave his fists around and turn his head away completely. A midwife friend of mine suggested BLW and he loved it from the word go, so that's what we did.

He was the same with taking a bottle, the little tinker - wouldn't be given a bottle for love nor money, but if you left one on the table (he was crawling by this stage) he'd happily go over, pull himself up and drink it. If it belonged to someone else, so much the better.

Little Monster

dawntigga · 05/08/2009 21:15

Got the book before I found out it was a religion popular on here

LOVED the book it really made sense to me but everyone needs to do what makes sense to them

bronze · 05/08/2009 21:33

I did blw weaning by accident. Or rathe rI did it on purpose but 6 years ago I didn't know it had a name

Izy jut fed for 2 hours 15 mins solid. I'm shattered.

BabyBolat · 05/08/2009 22:08

wfh - how funny k is the same - i ebf a fair bit but he wont take the bottle it if you give it to him he has to hold it himself so i just plonk him in his chair give him the bottle and he's happy as larry (makes my life loads easier) so think blw is the way forward for me!!

ouch bronze!

tis bedtime here so will see you all tomorrow

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 05/08/2009 22:24

That's very impressive BB - not sure Orbit would be capable of holding a bottle yet, he can hold toys but drops them very quickly. can K balance a bottle for a whole feed?
