Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Kayzr · 13/08/2009 22:43

Nope nothing. It won't let me see anything at all. Maybe it doesn't like me.

pmk1 · 13/08/2009 22:50

yeah I know I have tried everything but it's blank on my profile page. Did you try adding me as a "mate"? Although I have put the photos up the conventional way also and still doesn't work aaaarggggh

LadyThompson · 14/08/2009 00:40

Hey y'all

The meet up was fab. But there were several people I just didn't get the chance to chat to properly and I feel disappointed and a bit cheated. Boo! What we need is a meet up WEEK. Ha. But yes, I have been dobbed in by PMK and PD - I fell off the wagon and we lolled around drinking for quite a while after everyone else had gone. But it was the Royal Festival Hall so that counts as cultural, right?

I walked and walked round London today - went to the newly moved Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea (too conceptual for me - a wig on a rock on a stepladder, anyone?), then Photographers' Gallery, then finally the National Gallery for a French landscapes exhibition, which sounds very boring but wasn't. Particularly after the wig on a stepladder nonsense. Feel footsore but like I had proper day out.

Work have come back to me saying they will come back to me with a counter proposal by Monday at the latest. So that's progress of a sort.

It really is so nice to see people. Love it. I am back in the depths of the country now and I should take meself off to bed, but I feel a bit wired.

poisondwarf · 14/08/2009 01:10

Hi LadyT . Encouraging news about your work. Am up as well as I've had a bit of a catastrophe here. Had PC troubles earlier in the week. Took me 2 full days to back up my data and reinstall Windows. I was so relieved to have saved all the photos, but it turns out the backup didn't work - I've now got about 1500 corrupt photos & videos, nearly everything that we've taken since March of last year. Been frantically downloading all kinds of jpeg recovery programs to no avail. I think they're lost forever. I'm so gutted. We have a few stored online and a few more still on the camera, but still... Don't suppose anyone has any advice?

Thanks JB, you are very kind! I would love to come to a northern meet-up some time if I'm ever in the area. I am up that way next week actually (though nearer to you & daisy than York), but I think tilly said she was up the following week. Speaking of tilly, she was AWOL yesterday's meet-up, as were Verso & lal.

Well I suppose I'd better get to bed.

Kayzr · 14/08/2009 06:17

Pmk, I've added you as a mate bu it still doesn't show up. Not sure why.

pmk1 · 14/08/2009 07:21

Right ladies, I've posted them on the FB group! Also emailed MN help about why I can't put them on here.... I've had some issues with the MN site recently though so perhaps it's to do with that.

Lady that sounds positive about your job, and sounds like you had a bice day.

Oh Poison that is awful. Isn't someones dh good at that kind of thing? I think it might be MrVeggie that may be able to shed some light

pmk1 · 14/08/2009 07:24

oh and cheerfulness fine for another month here iykwim i am filled with negative thoughts thismorning.
Off to get my hair done

pmk1 · 14/08/2009 07:26

not sure what a 'bice' day is lady, but glad you had a nice one

Kayzr · 14/08/2009 07:47

Oh pmk I am sorry. Fingers crossed for next month.

Poison, I think some shops like pc world can sometimes retrieve them for you. Maybe if you give them a ring they could tell you.

TheInvisibleHand · 14/08/2009 10:03

Oh poison losing photos is such a shame. I keep thinking I ought to print more (some!) so at least we have a few in case of disaster. But as Kayzr says, there are people who can try and retrieve stuff for you.

LadyT and pmk - I am in awe! Sounds like you have had very busy and productive days! It was lovely to glimpse you both at the meet-up - sorry we didn't get to chat really. Will have to be a next time!

LadyThompson · 14/08/2009 10:46

Oh PD, so so sorry about your pics. I am not even faintly techie but I bet Mr Veggie would know what to do, when they are back from the hol. Fingers crossed...

PMK - oh dear, bad luck old girl. Here's hoping for next time. What are you having done at the hairdresser?

Oh, and Lal wasn't AWOL, PD - I did say but her DS was poorly and she texted me to say. As did Syb.

Feeling a bit cheered by SOME word from work but top choice nursery have come back to me to say they are of course full. I am expecting all the decent ones to be full actually. What a palava it all is.

Right, tons to do today, better get on....

KiwiPanda · 14/08/2009 10:49

Pmkl Sorry no luck this month, think of it as a whole extra month of boozing - sorry, cheerfulness isn't it? - and a month more decent sleep!?

Thank you so much for keeping the whoozit! I am indeed in Facebook - how do I find the Facebook group by the way? I'd like to join if that's ok? For some reason I can't seem to send PM on MN though.

Poisondwarf I am a bit of a closet nerd, though more for Macs than PCs. What exactly happens when you try to open the pictures, what message do you get? And have their file names changed at all?

daisydora · 14/08/2009 11:27

pmk Hope the hairdresser's gives you a little boost. Things like that often cheer me up a bit.

PD Noooo idea on the PC front, but agree that getting someone to have a look at it might be of use. We had troubles with the laptop, and found some independant guy from the yellow pages (I think). He only charged £100, and managed to restore/repair our hard drive and basically save lots of stuff for us. I say only £100 but it was cheaper than a new PC and of course the memories are priceless!

lady Glad to hear you are getting somewhere on the job front at last! I found looking for a nursery for DD so stressful, so hard trying to find one you like that has availability. Thankfully I haven't got that headache with DS just yet.

Had DS back to the GP's this morning. His cough is getting worse again, and it wakes him in the night and he starts to cry like he is in pain. Anyhow he still has a chest infection and it's now in both lungs. So another course of AB's. It was hard enough getting the first lot into him. Hopefully, this time it will work.

Who mentioned a northern meet? I would love to come if at all possible it would be lovely to meet some of you in the flesh.

LadyThompson · 14/08/2009 13:10

Oh Daisy, poor little DS. That nasty cough has gone on and on hasn't it?

It's probably been said before but 'Granny Murray' on CBeebies is about 38. Are they just trying to demoralise everybody? Yes, I am sure it is physically possible for her to be a Granny, but....

Posh fancypants nursery may possible have space on a Friday. I wonder if she could go to another nursery on a Thursday or if that would be too unsettling. I didn't want to do those days (although as long as they are consecutive it doesn't matter really) and who knows what work will want me to do...Hmmm. Better wait and see.

poisondwarf · 14/08/2009 13:12

pmk sorry you didn't get your wish this month - so frustrating. Hopefully you won't have too long to wait.

daisy poor DS - hope he's better soon. If you fancied a very mini but very northern meet I am in the land of the blue & whites when I visit my family next week so only about 20 minutes from you I think. Could possibly meet up for a brew next Wed if you wanted.

Hope lal's DS is feeling better (sorry LadyT - must have cloth ears).

Well the photos thing is not quite as bad as I thought - between the uncorrupted files on the backup, online photo albums and the camera I've managed to get about 900 of the 1700 photos back. Non-nerds can stop reading here but Kiwi when I was copying the photos from the backup disk, the first 2 folders copied perfectly then it got stuck on one photo. The thumbnail for this photo has a grey band on the bottom and the file won't open (I get invalid file format/format not supported type messages, depending on what I try to open it with). The subsequent files have no thumbnails, although the files have their original file names and are taking up the correct amount of space on the disc. I get the same error messages for these files. I have tried 3 or 4 different jpeg repair programs but none of them have been able to recover anything. From what I have been reading about recovering jpegs it doesn't look particularly promising I have to say.

poisondwarf · 14/08/2009 13:15

LadyT I caught an old episode of Rab C Nesbitt recently and Granny Murray was in it. I hate that program actually - even DS tells me to switch it off (and he is a complete telly head). FWIW whenever I've spoken to people who use mix 'n' match childcare they've usually had the same misgivings as you but the DCs just take it in their stride.#

poisondwarf · 14/08/2009 13:19

DS tells me to switch Granny Murray off, not Rab C Nesbitt - he doesn't watch that much telly (not quite).

tillyfernackerpants · 14/08/2009 16:31

hi all

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, rl has been getting in the way recently but am hoping everything's calmed down slightly.

I haven't caught up (sorry again) but realise I missed the meet up on Weds, hope you all had a lovely time.

I am still coming up to Yorkshire, will be there the week after the bank holiday (31 August). Does anyone want to meet up still?

jumpjockey · 14/08/2009 16:42

hello all, just a very quick pop on to say that my work have decided to let me do the two days a week for the first year as we'd hoped - so can finally start getting onto childminders properly and hopefully get somewhere sorted for dd

oh and not wanting to put the kibosh on or anything, but she slept from 7.15 til 6.30 last night and the night before maybe she's finally getting the hang of it!

pmk1 · 14/08/2009 17:53

just popping in really quick to say - KiwiPanda - I have that P/message thing on MN so I will message you with the details of the group and also my FB info!
OK back later.....

pmk1 · 14/08/2009 17:56

oh kiwi it wont let me as you have to go to your settings and allow cat messages from other members!

KiwiPanda · 14/08/2009 18:45

pmk done! Doh, can't believe I never allowed that option..

poisondwarf sounds like you've tried loads and I'm sure my amateur geeky skills can't help. Only thought - and this probably a dumb suggestion - have you checked the file extensions? Sometimes windows will randomly remove the file extension so that the file isn't recognised, and simply renaming it i.e. manually changing file name from photo to photo.jpg can work. But as I say probably dumb cos I'm sure the file checkers you used would have checked for that anyway.

I'll get my geekhat...

KiwiPanda · 14/08/2009 18:51

and on an actual baby-related note, has anyones DCs had diarrhea with teething? I can't work out if DD has a tummy bug or is teething, we've had about 5 dirty nappies today and she's on and off very upset, hand constantly in mouth, grabbing ears.. but no red cheeks, no drool, no sore gums or anything I can spot in her mouth. She's gone right off her food - will only tolerate a bit of solids (and usually she LOVES her grub) and has barely BF this afternoon, same yesterday - normally it's every 3 hours with her.

I've given her calprofen a few times over last few days for what seems to be pain - could this give her a sore tummy do you think? And if she does have either teething-related diarrhea or a tummy bug, is there any food I can give her that will help/ anything I should avoid??

Sorry for all the questions, am feeling a bit useless today and in need of the personalised know-your-baby manual the hospital stupidly forgot to give me when they handed DD over.

pmk1 · 14/08/2009 19:31

Hi Kiwi! I have messaged you with the FB group info so SL can you check to accept the joining request!! Hope it goes through ok - i've only used it once before!!

Thanks for all the sympathy for my visit from Aunt Flo today, I'm feeling ok about it and am determined not to get hung up on things. However I am going to get some B6 to regulate my cycle, but on a positive note - a non-guilty night of cheerfulness is calling, and LadyT.....it's eviction Friday

Had a lovely day at my hairdressers - actually she's a good friend and a fantastic hairdresser so I go to her house or she comes to mine and our babies play together while she does my hair in between many coffee's and stops for baby feeding / de-crying etc. She had hers in nursery for the first time today and was in tears but he loved it an it was a happy ending!
Lady - she does my highlights and I had her cut it as it needed a decent trim and some shape added to it... oh... love her! no more roots!

LadyThompson · 14/08/2009 20:43

Ooh, PMK, that sounds so jolly with your hairdresser. Yes, I am actually looking forward to Big Brother tonight! DP despairs. But if he made me move to the middle of nowhere, what does he really expect I am going to do for entertainment? Other than take up flashing, but I hardly think the rabbits or woodland creatures will care! I want Marcus to go as it will get up Bea's nostrils if Freddie stays...

Sorry to miss you Tilly. And you KP, you'd gone before I strolled up. DD didn't really have a runny bum with teething, no. I heard recently that was a myth, but who knows? Hope she feels better soon.

JJ - I should think your DD is worn out from all the bombing around! She is a lovely little Jumping Bean. Glad work have come through.
